Nizhneuvel Fortress

The history of the city of Yuzhnouralsk begins with the 1st half of the XVIII century. The first settlers appeared on these lands in the winter of 1745. These were working people and runaway serfs who had escaped from the mines and ironworks of the Demidovs, retired soldiers and runaway convicts. In the same year, by decree, the Cossacks brought them in to build a military settlement on the new Orenburg Line, which was built along the banks of rivers along the eastern slopes of the Ural Mountains. On the Uvelka River, in its lower reaches, by order of the first governor of the Orenburg province, Ivan Ivanovich Neplyuev, the Cossacks of the Isetsky army founded the Nizhneuvelsky fort, which had great importance, despite its remoteness from external borders. The fortress became an intermediate point on the post route between the Chelyabinsk fortresses. It was this route that transported food, fire supplies, metal and much more. By 1749, the construction of the Nizhneuvel military fortification was completed.

During the Pugachev revolt of 1773-1775. The garrison of the Nizhneuvel fortress supported the supporters, for which it was disbanded, and the fortress itself was transformed into the Nizhneuvel settlement. In 1776, the administration of the Nizhneuvelskaya volost was transferred to the Nizhneuvelskaya settlement.

According to the Decree of May 4, 1843, by which peasants were included in the Cossack class, the Nizhneuvelskaya settlement was transformed into the Nizhneuvelskaya village of the 3rd Trinity department of the Orenburg Cossack army. On May 24, 1924, the village was transformed into the village of Uvelskoye, and the Uvelsky district was created as part of the Trinity District. In 1939, the district center was moved from the village of Uvelsky to the station village of Nizhneuvelsky, located 7 km from the village.
