How to mark the rear bumper for parking sensors. Installing and connecting parking sensors with your own hands: a car lesson from A to Z. The process of installing parking sensors

Parking radar allows you to safely drive in tight spaces. With the help of sensors, the driver controls the distance of the car body from the nearest objects, reducing the risk of a collision. At the same time, the quality of the parking sensors depends on the configuration of its installation. There are different ways of integration and location of sensors, as well as channels for their interaction with the control unit. Manufacturers recommend installing parking sensors with maximum coverage of the space in front of the car, but this is not always advisable. When choosing, it is important to take into account many nuances, which will be discussed below.

Number of sensors and configuration of their placement

It is usually practiced to install sets of 4, 6 and 8 sensor emitters. During operation, each sensor, by processing an ultrasonic pulse, makes it possible to estimate the distance to a third-party object. Sensing elements are placed at the back and front of the car, and their specific number on each side depends on what kind of equipment the parking sensors provide - 6 sensors are usually divided into 2 and 4. 2 are installed in the front, and 4 in the back. The unevenness is due to the fact that the most dangerous "blind" zones are behind.

The maximum set for 8 sensors assumes a single layout - 4 sensors on each side. Experts do not recommend using 6 sensors on one side for the reason that they will provide too high sensitivity and a corresponding increase in the percentage of false positives. It is also recommended to install parking sensors in compliance with the distance from the ground and the distance between the individual emitters. The height of the installation point from the roadway according to the instructions is 55-60 cm. The gaps between the sensors must be maintained in the range of 10-15 cm.

Punch-in installation

This is a classic mounting method that involves creating a hole in the body or bumper of the car. First you need to choose the optimal place for sensor integration. The mounting point should be located away from the protruding structural parts of the machine, among which are the spare wheel fasteners, towing eyes, etc. Next, a cable is connected that will connect the sensor and the control unit. Wires should not be placed in close proximity to the exhaust system or power harnesses of local electrical equipment. It is desirable to physically install the parking sensors in the holes made with a complete drill. In this case, the optimal diameter will be provided without the risk of getting a narrowed or expanded niche. The sensor is installed in the prepared hole using rubber seals, which are also supplied in the kit.

Overhead installation

This method has the advantage of eliminating the need for a sensor integration hole. It should be noted that the formation of the mounting niche is due to the need to fix the sensor element, as well as laying the communication channel through the wiring. It is easier to install parking sensors in an overhead way, since in this case it is enough to use a special adhesive solution included in the kit. Actually, according to the same principle, the electromagnetic tape of parking sensors is fixed - an analogue of ultrasonic sensors.

As for wiring, overhead models most often work wirelessly. Therefore, the question of how to properly install an overhead type parking sensor involves only correct marking, landing on glue and further configuration.

Assembly of other functional components

The minimum equipment of the parking radar, in addition to sensors, also provides for the presence of a display. The first one processes the signals from the sensors, and the second one presents the driver with specific data on the distance to objects. The controller unit can be installed in the luggage compartment, but in such a way that it is reliably protected from mechanical damage, vibration effects and moisture. Installation is carried out using a special metal frame into which the block itself is inserted. How to install parking sensors yourself? To do this, it is enough to arm yourself with a screwdriver, complete screws or bolts. It is necessary to screw the frame into the prepared technical holes, and then install the controller with screws of a different format. The display is installed in a place visible to the driver - usually on the front panel. It can be fixed with the help of brackets or put on Velcro, which, however, is unreliable.

Wiring diagram

Before connecting, disconnect the control unit from the power supply, and then visually determine the wiring channels. For example, parking sensors, 6 sensors of which are connected via the classic wired method, will provide for a two-way connection to the controller unit. That is, 4 lines will need to be connected to one side of the relay, and 2 to the other, directed towards the driver. On the front front side, the control unit relay usually has connectors for connecting an information wire, a power circuit, etc.

Wireless systems only require the connection of a controller box and, in some cases, a display for power supply. Power must be provided only from the battery and the on-board electrical network. Pulse sources are not suitable for such a connection scheme. You should also evaluate the compatibility with the voltage indicator. For example, Sho-Me parking sensors in standard versions can only be connected to sources with a voltage of 10-15 V.

To ensure stable signal reception, it is recommended to initially observe the correct position of the sensors. Usually, do-it-yourself installation is implemented without taking into account the orientation side of the sensitive sensor. Experts advise directing the wide part of the rim up. By the way, the premium parking sensors Sho-Me in the Y-2616 modification includes 8 large sensors with pronounced metal rings. When installing them, it is especially important to observe this rule. Another tip concerns wiring insulation. All supply cables must not only be protected, but also located in channels that exclude contact with a metal structure or other electrical equipment.

Conclusion

The installation technology of the parking radar is much more complicated than this. This is due to fierce competition between these driver assistants, while in practice the sensors are more effective. And yet, a well-thought-out layout of sensors and communication lines helps to install parking sensors without any problems. The price of such services in specialized workshops can vary from 5 to 10 thousand rubles. depending on the complexity of the work. For an ordinary motorist, the main problem of this operation will be the laying of cable infrastructure. Working with the onboard electrical network in itself imposes a high responsibility. However, you can choose an alternative method of wireless installation.

Parktronic or parking radar (sonar) is a device that makes it much easier, especially for a novice driver, to park in difficult urban conditions. Some drivers are skeptical about such an event as installing parking radars. And those who have installed parking sensors already at the factory or later in the service do not regret it at all. Naturally, provided that a high-quality parking sensors are installed.

Briefly about the scheme of operation of parking sensors

The task of the parking sensors is to inform the driver with sound and light signals about the dangerous proximity of any obstacle in the "dead" field of view. It is no longer a novelty of parking sensors equipped with video cameras that display an image on a display or on a windshield.

The schematic diagram of the operation of the parking sensors is the same for any model:

  • Sensors 2 to 8 detect an obstacle by means of an ultrasonic signal.
  • When an obstacle is detected, the wave returns to the sensor.
  • The sensor transmits a signal about the interference through the ECU (electronic control unit), which processes the information.
  • Depending on the type of parking sensors, the driver receives: an audible signal, a visual signal, or a complex signal, plus a display of the distance on the LCD display, if available. But, most often, we perceive only the sound signal. Although, who is used to it.

Installing parking sensors yourself

Self-installation of parking sensors is not difficult. It takes time, and, of course, the standard kit itself, which today is in such abundance that it sometimes seems that there are not as many obstacles as parking sensors offer us.

Do-it-yourself parking sensors installation begins with the choice of device. Depending on your wishes and financial possibilities. First, go to the auto forum of your hometown or district and ask the "inhabitants" who and what parking sensors purchased in retail, and how they behave. This will help you make a choice.

The choice has been made, the only thing left is to find out how to install the parking sensors yourself on your model. The fact is that the bumpers of different cars have their own design features. Therefore, in order to avoid picking up a signal from the sky or asphalt, you need to clarify how to properly install the parking sensors on your model.

The instructions for installing the parking sensors in full simply and clearly explain how to connect the parking sensors. These are the instructions that come with the kit. If there is none, or it is not translated, then do not even look in the direction of this device, no matter how attractive the price is. You just buy yourself a flashing toy, and there is no guarantee that it will work.

The parking sensors connection scheme is basically the same for all types of devices. In the kit of the right manufacturer, as a rule, there is already a cutter according to the size of the sensors for making holes in the bumper of the car. Therefore, the question of how to put parking sensors is not worth it.

How to install and connect parking sensors

  1. Site preparation for installation. The ECU is installed in the trunk. You choose the place yourself. This may be a niche under the skin, or maybe a wing. Not essential.
  2. Bumper preparation. You need to wash it - this is the first thing. Then markup by the number of sensors. The best option is 4 sensors. The extreme sensors are spaced into the radius parts of the bumper, and then the distance between them is divided into three parts for the remaining two sensors.
  3. Mark the bumper with an ordinary marker, then it is washed off with alcohol without damaging it. The markup must be carried out based on the parameters. To do this, there is a parktronic scheme in the kit and its minimum and maximum performance indicators are indicated. The height from the ground is usually 50 cm.
  4. Using a cutter, we drill holes in the bumper and install the sensors. As a rule, they become ideal in size, but for greater reliability, you can play it safe and put the sensors on glue or silicone.
  5. Connecting sensors to the computer and then to the monitor is carried out in accordance with the scheme of the partctronic.
  6. Most importantly, before leaving "on the big road" do not forget to test the parking sensors in different modes and with different obstacles in order to understand when the real signal is coming and why false positives can occur.

When. If you install, the technology for its installation is no different from the factory device. Except for the installation and connection diagram of the ECU, which is assembled by you.

Good luck with installing parking sensors with your own hands.

Every year, thousands of new cars appear on the streets of modern cities. At the same time, the number of parking spaces is growing less actively, and motorists are forced to park more densely, which inevitably leads to an increase in the number of traffic accidents. Help to avoid unpleasant situations on the roads Parktronic is a parking radar that helps the driver to safely park the car in any conditions. This device will be especially useful for beginners and those who have not yet mastered parking a car in difficult urban conditions.

These devices come in several types, and in this article we will look at the most popular of them - ultrasonic. The principle of operation of parking sensors is simple: special sensors are installed in the bumper of the car, which transmit and receive acoustic signals. The device calculates the distance to obstacles based on the time it takes for sound to travel from the sensor to the obstacle and back again. This is possible because the speed of sound is a constant value.

The driver receives a visual, audible or complex signal. In some types of parking sensors, an LCD display is installed, which displays the position of the car relative to obstacles and the distance to them. As practice shows, it is the sound signal that is best perceived, but it rather depends on the habit.

What do we need to install?

To install parking sensors with your own hands, you do not need any professional skills. An ordinary motorist can cope with this task by force. All that is required for this is to drill a few holes evenly and connect the wires correctly. Most of the necessary tools can be found in the garage of any driver.

The set of most parking radars consists of:

  • sensors (from 2 to 8 pieces)
  • connecting cables
  • screen
  • signal processing unit.

Also, some models come with a cutter for drilling holes for sensors and various useful little things. But if it is not included in the kit, this is not critical - you can measure the diameter of the sensor and purchase a drill at the nearest store. However, it should be taken into account that the cutter diameter must be 1-2 mm larger than the sensor diameter.

To install and connect parking sensors, we need:

  • the device itself
  • cutter for drilling holes for sensors (often comes with parking sensors)
  • drill (you can also use a screwdriver)
  • keys set
  • pencil, electrical tape or clamps, tape measure and tester.

All cars are different and each case is unique in its own way, so other little things, such as pliers, a soldering iron, or a car electrical diagram, may be required.

We install parking sensors with our own hands

This installation scheme is universal, and is suitable for most cars. Sensors and a camera are mounted in the front and rear bumpers, which are connected by wires to the control unit. The parking sensors display can be installed either on the dashboard or in the rear of the cabin and is also connected to the unit.

Installing the rear parking sensors

It is necessary to start the installation of the system by drilling holes for the sensors. This is perhaps the most responsible task and should be approached with special care. On some vehicles, it is not necessary to remove the bumper, but if it is more convenient for you, it is better to remove it.

To begin with, we will outline the places on the bumper where we will install the sensors in the future. You can find detailed installation requirements in the instructions for the parking sensors, such as the optimal distance between the sensors and from the sensors to the ground. These requirements are very important, and they must be taken into account when basting holes. Next, we glue the mounting tape to the places where we will drill, and mark the centers of the holes with an awl.

Seven times measure cut once! It will not be superfluous to check the markings of the holes again. Mistakes made at this stage cannot be corrected!

Using a cutter, we drill holes in the bumper that were previously marked for the rear parking sensors. It is important that the sensors after installation be directed strictly horizontally, so you need to drill perpendicular to the plane of the bumper.

After that, the sensors are inserted into the holes with the sensors outward (wires inward). The bumpers of some cars have a lining under the plastic - a damper. In this case, a piece of wire or a nail will help you to push the wires through. Having previously made a hole in the damper for the wire, wrap the cable to the nail with electrical tape and pull it inward.

Next, we insert the sensor into the hole and fix it on the back side with special rings that should be included. It is also important to install the sensors in the correct sequence. They are marked with Latin letters A, B, C and D and must be installed on the bumper in the same order from left to right.

Often the sensors are black or silver and, if necessary, they can be repainted in body color (bumper). This procedure does not affect their sensitivity and durability in any way, and your car looks more beautiful. You can pick up the paint “by eye”, or accurately determine the color using computer selection.

As a rule, the signal processing unit is installed in the trunk, although it can also be mounted in the inside of the wing or under the dashboard in the cabin. We will consider an example of the most common solution.

We will work under the bumper and in the trunk. First of all, we free the trunk and remove the trim. We wind the wires from all sensors together. This can be done with electrical tape, clamps, or run the wires through the corrugation, which will also protect them. We wire the wires wound together under the bumper into the trunk through the technological hole. If it is missing, we drill a new one and fill it with sealant after pulling the wires.

Next, we need to choose a place where the signal processing unit will be installed. This place should be relatively safe for the block, as it can be torn off by the cargo that will be transported. The block itself is attached to any surface using double-sided tape - just tear off the film and attach the block (preferably to a fat-free surface).

The parking sensors are activated at the moment when the reverse gear is engaged. Therefore, after fixing the signal processing unit, it must be powered from the reversing lamps, observing the polarity. The first step is to get to the rear light wires and determine which one is “plus”. Often this wiring consists of cables with black and red insulation, in which case the red wire is a "plus". Otherwise, "plus" must be determined using a tester.

There are two ways to connect wires:

After that, we connect sensors to the block - each wire from the sensor and each connector in the block are marked accordingly.

Now let's think about where to put the display and install it. As a rule, it is installed on the dashboard. But some prefer to install the display in the rear so that it can be seen through the rearview mirror. The display, like the block, is attached to a flat surface with double-sided tape. Whichever location you choose for the display, the next step is to connect it to the signal processing unit.

Important! When installing the display in the rear, you must take into account the fact that you will look at it through a mirror. This means that the obstacles on it will also be displayed in a mirror image, that is, vice versa! To make the display correct relative to you, you need to change the order of the wires of the sensors that are connected to the unit. That is, change A, B, C, D to D, B, C, A.

The rear display has the advantage of not having to run wires across the cabin to the dashboard. In this case, the wiring is pulled through the technological hole under the seat, then under the skin between the side and the roof of the car. In the case of a front-mounted display, the wiring is located under the side skirt trim or under the floor mats.

It is better to secure all wiring with clamps or electrical tape. The same applies to extra pieces of wire that can knock on the pits. It may happen that in the sun the fender of the car heats up, and the block attached to the double-sided tape can slide off. After the installation is completed, turn on the ignition, then reverse gear and see if the screen lights up. If it lights up, then you have correctly installed the rear parking sensors!

Installing the front parking sensors

The principle of installing the front parking sensors is the same, but there are some differences. In this case, we need to run the wiring through the hood and interior of the car to the trunk, where the signal processing unit is installed. On some vehicles, before installing the front parking sensors, you need to remove the grille and the air duct pipe.

Then everything is according to the instructions - we mark and drill holes for the front parking sensors. We use wire to push the wire under the bumper and fasten the wiring with electrical tape or clamps. Through the technological hole, the wire is led into the engine compartment. In some cases, the washer reservoir will interfere with the wires, so it must be removed.

It is better to run the wire from the front left sensor on the other side of the engine compartment under the battery. In order to stretch the remaining wires, you can use a standard corrugation, if any. The cable is pulled into the cabin through a technological hole.

Now let's decide how we will activate the parking sensors apron. And there are several options here:

And finally, we bring the wiring through the passenger compartment to the place where the signal processing unit is installed. In our case, this is the trunk. We connect the wires of the front parking sensors according to the instructions, in the same way as with the rear one.

Parktronic does not work, what should I do?

There are many reasons why the parking sensors may fail or not work after installation. Therefore, we will consider two cases:

New parking aid not working

At the beginning of the article, we recommended checking the performance of the device before installing it on a car. If it worked before installation, you should check the connection of all the main nodes. All components must be connected according to the instructions that come with the kit. Check if you are properly powered by the reversing lamp or ignition. Also, do not exclude the possibility of a factory marriage.

The parking sensors worked, but something went wrong

The fastest and most reliable way to find out the cause of a breakdown is computer diagnostics. Now this service is provided by many auto repair shops. If you decide to find the cause of the breakdown yourself, we will try to help you. Often the cause of all problems are sensors, and it is on them that you should pay attention in the first place. One of the most common problems is a constant signal. The reason for this may be a foreign body that “stuck” on the sensor, as well as oxidation of the contacts and a short circuit.

Also, the sensors are sensitive to water and may give false signals during rain or after washing. In this case, drying, for example with compressed air, will help. At sub-zero temperatures, especially in severe frost, the sensors may also lose sensitivity. But this does not affect their further performance.

In conclusion, before leaving the road, you should test the parking sensors with different obstacles and in different modes. This will allow you to understand in which situations the system can give a false signal and in which a real one.

Video example of installing parking sensors with your own hands

One of the most difficult driving maneuvers is reversing. But whether we like it or not, we have to use such a mode of movement all the time, especially when parking a car. To secure the control of the machine in such a situation, the parking sensors were born.

What is it, and what is the parking sensors device

This device has many names. It is called parking sensors, and parking radar, and parking sonar. From these names, the principle of its operation becomes clear - detecting an obstacle, measuring the distance to it and warning the driver. This happens as follows - when the reverse gear is turned on, the ultrasound generator, which is part of the parking sensors, begins to radiate.

If an obstacle appears along the path of the car or nearby, a reflected signal appears from it, which is perceived by the parking sensors circuit. Based on the delay time of such a signal, the system determines the distance to the obstacle and warns the driver of the car about this using the signaling and indication means provided for by the product design.

What is the parking sensors system

To understand what such a device is, just look at the figure:
It consists of:

  • the electronic unit;
  • sensors placed on the bumper of the car;
  • display and indication device.

This is a fairly enlarged image, but it allows you to understand what the product is. The existing types of parking sensors are quite diverse and numerous. You can define the following signs by which they differ from each other:

Number of connected sensors. There may be two, or there may be eight. The possibility of detecting an obstacle when maneuvering in reverse and the cost of the parking sensors itself depend on the quantity. If the car is equipped with two sensors, then the probability that the obstacle will go unnoticed is quite high. If the device contains eight sensors, then the probability of error is minimal.

Way to display distance. The system can use distance indicators with one scale, with two scales and a digital display of the distance to the obstacle.

A means of displaying information. For parking sensors, the data that the device receives as a result of its operation can be displayed on:

  1. special device;
  2. liquid crystal display;
  3. windshield;
  4. car rearview mirror.

A method of transmitting information to the electronic control unit from sensors. A system such as parking sensors can use data transmission both by cable and radio channel for these purposes.

The use of additional devices. There are special systems that additionally use a video camera in their work, which provides a display of the space behind the car in the rear-view mirror. It is believed that such parking sensors with a rear-view camera create opportunities for the safest conditions when maneuvering in reverse. At the same time, one should not forget that although a parking sensor is installed on the car, the rear-view mirror also, with no less efficiency, allows you to assess in time the presence of obstacles behind the car.

Sensor locations. Initially, it was planned to place them only on the surface of the rear bumper of the car, but later the parking sensors began to use sensors installed on the front bumper.

How to connect parking sensors

This task is responsible, but it is quite possible to perform it on your own, following the instructions. As a rule, the wiring diagram requires connecting sensors, a display device and an electronic unit. It is usually installed in the trunk of a car in any convenient place.

The next task of the wiring diagram involves the installation of sensors. If more than two are planned, then first of all, the extreme ones are installed, at the bending radii of the rear bumper, then the rest are placed at the same distance. Before installing them, the surface is prepared, cleaning it from dust and dirt, and after that it is marked on the surface of the rear bumper where they will be located. The system usually provides for a certain location of the rear view sensors, including, as a rule, it is necessary to maintain a distance of fifty centimeters from the ground.

Holes are drilled in the marked places of the rear bumper, in which sensors are then installed. In order for the system to work reliably in the future, they are additionally attached to the bumper with glue or sealant. After that, you need to connect the sensors to the control unit, as provided by the parking sensors circuit. If the display device is planned to be located on the front panel or on the rear-view mirror, then the wires for connection will need to be laid under the interior trim, for which it will have to be removed.

It is best to combine all the wires used to connect the rear view sensors into a single bundle using clamps; additional measures must be taken to protect against damage at the transition points through the holes. After the connection diagram of all devices is completed, the parking sensors must be tested. To do this, the parking sensors system is checked under different conditions for the possibility of detecting obstacles when maneuvering. If the product works correctly, detects and warns about the presence of obstacles in a timely manner, then you have managed to connect the parking sensors.

Parktronic for cars, its possible failures and malfunctions

As a rule, the causes of parking sensors malfunctions are failures of sensors and wires in the harnesses. Of course, it is possible that the failure occurred in the electronic control unit, due to which the parking sensors system itself either stopped working or works with violations. But such a failure is quite rare.

For example, an external manifestation of a failure can sometimes be a long squeak that the system issues for no apparent reason. In this case, a possible cause may be splashing of the rear view sensor with dirt, after removing the dirt, the parking sensors will be able to work as before. Another reason may be the closure of individual wires that are connected to the central sensor unit. In this case, the correct operation of the product will be violated, and diagnostics will be required to restore its performance.

Moisture closure of wires for connecting sensors will also appear, as a result of which the correct signal flow pattern will be violated. However, after drying the wires, performance should be restored.

By itself, a device such as parking sensors cannot be considered an indispensable element of a car, but nevertheless, it turns out to be useful when performing complex maneuvers, especially for novice drivers. The parking sensors can be of different types and designs, but in any case, for its operation, the connection of rear-view sensors is required.

Parktronic is a driver assistance system for safely parking a car. Every year, many new cars appear on the streets of cities. And the number of car parking spaces increases only slightly, and drivers are forced to park their cars more closely together, which often leads to an increase in the number of traffic accidents.

To prevent unpleasant situations when parking, there is a parking radar, which is called parking sensors. It helps the driver to safely park his car in difficult conditions. This will be a short answer to the question: what is parking sensors. This device will be especially relevant for novice drivers and women.

There are several versions of such devices. There are parktronics:

  1. Forced type.
  2. Constantly working. Such devices would be unsuitable for urban traffic conditions, where the system would constantly sound an audible warning of a dangerous approach, which would be tiring for the driver. Therefore, for the city it is better to use parking sensors with turning off and on by force.

The signals given to the driver from this system may be different. Sound signals are popular, as well as with video monitors and a graphical scale. The selection of the monitor should be carried out taking into account the experience and skill of the driver. Often, modern parking sensors include several types of signal: a video monitor or a scale, plus an audio signal.

For novice drivers, the sound signal is not suitable, since it is difficult to determine the distance from the object by a signal that changes its tone, and the shape of the object will be all the more indistinguishable. It can be a branch, curb or bumper of another car.

  • The digital display depicts the distance to a possible object and serves for drivers with a good eye and the ability to determine the distance.
  • The graphic screen is also good. It has more information than a sound signal, and determines the obstacle, the distance to it and the approximate location. On the graphical indicator, you can clearly see the change in the distance to the object.
  • A parking sensor with a video screen shows an object located along the path of movement, and the path itself. But a full-fledged image will be when there are several sensors on the machine at the same time.
  • Modern models of parking sensors have high-tech functions, for example, measuring the temperature of the external environment, speaking with a human voice, etc.

Operating principle

We will consider the most popular ultrasonic parking sensors. Its principle of operation is quite simple: touch sensors are built into the car bumper that transmit and receive sound signals. The system determines the distance to the object based on the time it takes for the sound signal to travel from the sensor to the object and back. Such a calculation is possible due to the constant value of the speed of sound.

The driver receives different types of signals: sound, visual or complex. In different types of parking sensors, a liquid crystal display is mounted, which shows the location of the car relative to the object and the distance between them. In practice, the sound signal is more understandable, but this depends on the skill of the driver.

Required materials for installation

You do not need professional skills to install the parking system yourself. Any driver can do this job. To do this, it is necessary to drill holes in the bumper and make an electrical connection of the wires. The main part of the tool is available in any garage.

The set of many parking radars includes:

  • ultrasonic sensors. The quantity depends on the purchased model.
  • Connecting wires.
  • Display.
  • The electronic unit.

Some versions include a cutter for making holes for sensors, and other small things. If such a cutter is not included, then you can use a conventional drill, which is easy to purchase at any store. Before this, it is necessary to accurately measure the bore diameter of the sensor, taking into account that the cutter must exceed the diameter of the sensor by 1 mm.

For installation and connection of the parking system, the following materials will be required:

  • A set of elements of parking sensors.
  • Cutter for sensor holes.
  • Drill or screwdriver.
  • Spanners.
  • Multimeter, tape measure, tape and pencil.

All cars are different and it is impossible to immediately take into account all the nuances of the installation, so you may need other tools and various little things, for example, a soldering iron, pliers or a car wiring diagram.

Do-it-yourself parking sensors installation

Before installation, it is advisable to make sure that the equipment set is in good condition. To do this, you need to connect the signal control unit with touch sensors using conductors and check if there is a reaction of the parking sensors to various objects.

Installation scheme

This installation scheme is universal, and can be used for many cars. According to this scheme, sensors and a camera are installed in the rear and front bumpers, connected by wires to the control unit. The parking sensors screen can be mounted both on the instrument panel and behind the car in the cabin, and is also connected to the unit with wires.

Installation begins with drilling holes for the sensors. This is the most responsible task, which is approached with great care. On many vehicles, you can leave the bumper on, but if it's more convenient for you, you can remove the bumper.

First of all, you should mark the places on the bumper for installing sensors. In the manual for the parking sensors, you can find the installation rules - the best distance between the sensors and to the ground. These rules are important and must be taken into account when marking holes.

Then you should stick adhesive tape on the places where the holes are drilled, and mark their centers with an awl.

Before drilling holes, you should once again check the correctness of the markup, since then nothing can be corrected. Using a cutter or drill, drill holes in the bumper marked holes. It is important that the sensors after installation have a strictly horizontal direction, so drilling must be strictly perpendicular to the surface of the bumper.

Next, insert the sensors into the holes with the wires inward. On some cars, there is a special lining under the bumper called a damper. Then the wires should be stretched with a nail, taping the wire to it with electrical tape. Before this, it is necessary to make a hole in the damper for pulling the wire, and also tighten it inward with the help of a nail or wire.

Then you need to insert the sensor and fix it on the back side with the mounting rings included in the kit. An important point is the correct sequence of installation of the sensors, marked with the letters A, B, C and D. On the bumper, they must be in the same order from left to right.

Typically, the sensors are silver or black, and if necessary, they can be painted in the color of the bumper. This work does not affect the durability and sensitivity, and your car looks more elegant. You can choose the paint by computer selection or approximately.

Typically, the signal unit is mounted in the trunk, but it can be fixed inside the wing or in the cabin under the instrument panel. Consider the most popular installation example.

Work will take place in the trunk and under the bumper. First you need to empty the trunk and remove the lining. The wires from the sensors must be wound together with electrical tape or plastic ties, or the wires should be laid in a corrugation that protects them. The conductors fastened together must be passed into the trunk under the bumper through the hole. If there are no holes in the trunk, then you should drill it and, after pulling the conductors, seal it with sealant.

Then you should choose a place to install the signal control unit. Such a place must be safe so that it is not torn off by baggage during transportation. The block is fixed to any surface with double-sided tape. It is necessary to tear off the film and fix the block.

The parking sensors start working when reverse gear is engaged. Therefore, after fixing the control unit, it must be connected from the reversing lights, taking into account the polarity. First you need to find the reverse wires and find out the positive conductor from them. Usually these wires are red and black, so the positive wire should be red. To be sure, check the polarity with a multimeter.

Wires are connected in two ways:

  1. The old "grandfather" method is to peel the insulation from the ends of the wires and twist them together. Next, wrap the wire connection with electrical tape. This operation must be repeated with all pairs of wires - negative and positive wire.
  2. The modern way - we use special rivets. When compressed, they form good wire contact. This is the most convenient way, since there is no need to remove or cut off the insulation. Such rivets may be included in the equipment kit, but are also sold separately in the store.

Install a rivet on the positive wire from the reversing light. We insert the power supply conductor of the unit into another hole. Next, with pliers we press a metal jumper that pierces two cables and forms a contact between the wires.

Then you need to connect the sensors to the control unit - each conductor from the sensor and each connector on the body is marked.

The next step is to determine where to install the display and secure it there. Most often it is mounted on the instrument panel. However, some craftsmen can install the screen at the rear of the cabin so that they look at it through the cabin mirror. The screen, like the block, is fixed to a flat plane with double-sided tape. Next, you need to connect the display to the signal processing device.

An important point is the installation of the screen at the rear of the cabin. In this case, it must be borne in mind that you will have to look at it through a mirror. This means that all objects on the path will be reflected in the mirror in reverse, that is, in a mirror image. For the display to be correct, it is necessary to change the sequence of connecting the wires from the sensors that are connected to the electronic unit.

The rear location of the screen has the advantage that it is not necessary to run wires throughout the cabin to the instrument panel. In this case, the wiring is laid through a special hole under the seat mat, and further under the lining between the roof of the car and the side. If the display is located in front, then the wires are pulled under the side trim of the skirt, or under the rugs.

All electrical wiring must be fixed with electrical tape or clamps. The same rule applies to excess wire ends, which can create noise when driving over bumps. After finishing the laying and connecting the wires, you need to turn on the ignition, then turn on the reverse speed and see if the screen lights up. If it lights up, then the installation went well.

The work of connecting the front parking sensors is the same as the rear, but there are slight differences. In this case, it is necessary to stretch the wires from the front bumper through the engine compartment and the interior of the car to the trunk, where the electronic processing unit is located. On some machines, before installing the front parking system, it is necessary to remove the air duct and grille.

Further operations must be carried out according to the instructions. Mark and drill holes for sensors. We use wire for pulling wires under the bumper and fix the wires with clamps or electrical tape. Through the technological hole, the electrical wiring goes into the engine compartment. In order not to interfere with the washer reservoir, it can be dismantled.

It is advisable to lay the wire from the left front sensor on the other side of the engine compartment under the battery. To stretch other wires, you must use the existing corrugation. The wiring is laid into the cabin through the technological hole.

Now you need to decide how the front parking system will turn on. In this case, there are several ways:

  1. Activate the system with an individual button. In this case, you will have to connect the front parking sensors to the standard button on the dashboard or mount a new button. This method has the advantage of being able to apply it when needed.
  2. Activate the front parking system by turning on the ignition. This method will be more convenient, since there is no need to always press the button. You need to get to the conductors under the steering wheel and identify the ignition wire, open the steering panel. You can find the ignition conductor using a tester. First, connect the ignition and find the wire where there is voltage from the on-board network. Then turn off the ignition, while the voltage on the conductor should disappear. We have such a wire marked with the symbol "K". connect power from it.
  3. Activate the front parking system with the brake pedal. In this case, you need to connect the power from the brake lamp. You can find the necessary conductor with a multimeter, as in the previous method.

Now it remains to bring the electrical wiring through the interior of the car to the installed processing unit. We have it in the trunk. We connect the wires according to the instructions, in the same way as the rear parking sensors.

Possible malfunctions

Before installing the equipment, you should always check it for proper operation. If everything worked before installation, then you need to check the connection of all the main elements. All parts must be connected according to the instructions included in the kit.

You should check the power connection from the ignition or reversing lights. There may also be a marriage from the factory.

The most reliable and fastest way to determine the malfunction is computer diagnostics. Currently, such a service can be ordered in many car services. If you decide to find the problem yourself, then you should understand the situation. Sensors are the most common cause and should be addressed from the start. The most popular problem is the continuous signal. A foreign object may stick to the sensor, or the wires are oxidized, and a short circuit has occurred.
