On September 4, 2017, the European University in St. Petersburg, temporarily unable to start a new “academic” year, as other educational institutions did, still did not break tradition and held the opening ceremony of the new “scientific” year.

The rector spoke to yesterday's students and listeners of the university, graduates, teachers and staff Nikolay Vakhtin, vice-rector Veljko Vujacic and the first rector of the university Boris Firsov, whose words were accepted, albeit with sadness, but also with enthusiasm by all those present.

For those who were not with us on this day, but would like to join the spirit of the European University, and for everyone who would like to remember how it was, we are publishing the speech of Rector Nikolai Vakhtin at the opening of the new scientific year.

“We are celebrating the EU’s 22nd year of operation in a strange way. There is no usual rector in the hall, no usual chairs, no first-year students, the agenda of the last meeting of the Academic Council did not include approval of admission. But nevertheless, I see the usual joy on their faces that we are together again.

Today we are opening the 22nd year of operation of the EU – but not the academic year.

We open this year in the midst of moving to a new building - from the palace in which we worked for more than two decades and which has become home for many of us. Classrooms, faculties, part of the library and a computer lab have already moved.

We wrote official letter Vice-Governor Mokretsov with a request to explain how the President’s instructions regarding the allocation of an alternative building to us are being carried out.

We will have to leave this palace. It’s sad to say goodbye to this palace - but, as Kutuzov said, preserving the army is more important than preserving the territory. I think that our Borodino is still ahead.

We are opening this year without a license for educational activities. Tomorrow we will apply for a new license for the third time: the first two times the documents were considered incorrect. We took into account all conceivable and inconceivable comments from RON. Most of all I liked the following claim of RON: you have the same audiences - educational and for independent work. What if, when classes are going on there, someone will want to work on their own?! Unfortunately, I’m afraid there will be many more similar clues from RON – but we also have enough perseverance, patience and a sense of humor.

Speaking of humor. A fellow anthropologist in Aberdeen told what he thought was a funny story: “They started research project with one provincial Russian university. They asked us for a copy of the license on the basis of which we conduct educational activities. We laughed so much!” – not seeing an answering smile on my face, he began to repeat. I explained why I wasn’t smiling and asked: “And how did they get out of the situation?”, he said, “We sent them a copy of the charter of Henry the Seventh of 1495 - it seemed to suit them...”

This reminds me of a recent story about the Russian Academy of Sciences and FANO: an FANO official came to the Kunstkamera and asked, with a hint of even some indignation: “And who gave you such a building in the very center of the city?” The director of the Kunstkamera answered embarrassedly: “Actually, Peter the Great...”

But let's get back to serious things.

Appeared today. I'll read it in full:

Let us recall that Rospotrebnadzor returned to the European University a package of documents that is intended for the university to obtain a license to carry out its activities. IN this moment The institution does not have the right to recruit new applicants, as well as to continue the educational process of students already enrolled in the programs. Chief of Staff to the Rector of the European University Alla Samoletova said that the new package will take into account all requirements Rospotrebnadzor, and the documents will be sent to the department itself on September 5....

Photo not of our building

A former teacher at the European University commented on the situation with the return of licensing documents to the university. An employee with many years of experience in the education sector stated that he resigned from the European University for moral reasons and personally advocates for the institution not to receive the desired license.

The source noted that ideology is practically declared within the walls of the university LGTB, radical feminism, and there is also an active imposition of Western political trends on employees and students. Most of all, according to the ex-teacher, he was outraged by the flourishing personal relationships between students and teachers in the institution, which are approaching the edge of acceptable professional ethics normal, but have important in promoting and successfully studying at a university...

This “former teacher” (fictitious, of course) personally advocates for EU not to receive a license” - so let him speak out. We are ready to provide him with a platform. And we will explain to him that a license in Russia is given not according to his, a former teacher, political preferences, but according to the law.

Isn't it by law?

For now, there remains a possibility that we will receive a license on time. Life will tell, but we aim to start the school year no later than November 1st. We need a license in order to announce admission and admit first-year students to our MA programs - hardly many, because the bulk, of course, have already entered other universities. But I know for sure that there are those who are waiting. And when I think about these young people who are faithfully waiting for the EU to open admission, my throat tightens.

But even if we do not manage to open admission on time and we are destined to live this year not as an educational, but as a research institution, I am sure that sooner or later we will restore everything that has been lost, lost and missed. We have not lost the main thing: the reputation of one of the best educational institutions a country where young people from all over Russia, and not only Russia, strive to study.

We have not lost the reputation of a university for which academic freedom and diversity of beliefs and opinions are one of the leading values. We have professors of very different political persuasions - conservatives, liberals, republicans, and even Marxists; and as long as these professors do not use classrooms to promote their political beliefs - this is prohibited by the EU Charter - we are glad that they work for us. For us, the main thing is professionalism, scientific reputation and quality of teaching.

Finally, we have not lost our reputation as an intellectual center, a place where interesting things happen all the time scientific conferences, public lectures are given, where scientific celebrities come from all over the world and talk about their work.

I want to say a little more about this.

The lack of a license for educational activities does not mean that EU professors will not do anything in the near future. Of course, a university without students is every professor's dream, but we must use this forced pause to move other aspects of our work forward. First of all, scientific work: I hope that by the end of 2017 our professors will be able to publish even more articles and books than is usually the case.

But that’s not all: training programs require adjustments, and while professors are not busy teaching, this is an excellent opportunity to calmly and slowly think about whether we are doing everything the best way, are we optimally structured across all programs and areas? educational plans- and this time I don’t mean their formal compliance with Rosobrnadzor standards, but their content, their logic and coherence, their modernity - as they say, “according to the Hamburg account.”

Finally, the lack of a license in no way eliminates our right to offer public lectures to the city by our professors - and not only our professors. We announced EUSP Science “Autumn Marathon”, the program of this marathon for September is published on the website, everything is very interesting and rich there - performances, concerts, lectures - every day in September. Come and invite your colleagues! Dissemination of information on social networks is encouraged (as they say, share-like-repost). We would like to see a big crowd to make sure the city supports us.

Despite everything, I congratulate everyone on the beginning of the 22nd year of operation of the European University and sincerely hope that in this difficult time we will all show those qualities that have always distinguished the EU team: confidence in the rightness and righteousness of our cause, loyalty to university traditions, comradely solidarity and patience."

September 1, the day of holiday lines and solemn speeches, Rector of Sechenov University Pyotr Glybochko, together with students from the Council of Dormitories, inspected the progress of work in a dormitory under construction for 1,200 people in the Ochakovo region. This is the third joint test to which students were invited. They saw what stage the construction was at and received answers to questions regarding settlement directly from the rector.

It is no secret that at our university there is a problem with a shortage of places in dormitories, and students are forced to live in commercial dormitories and sometimes stand in line to move in for more than one year. The university management regularly invests in improving living conditions.

“We have renovated three dormitories,” noted Rector Petr Glybochko. “We will begin renovating another one after the new one on the street is put into operation in November 2017. Ozernaya. Thus, we plan to completely resolve the housing issue in 2018, especially since the lack of dormitories prevents us from accepting a sufficient number of students from the regions. It is important that the new dormitory will have an entire entrance dedicated to housing young professionals who work at the university.”
Participants in the rector's tour saw that work was underway to improve the surrounding area - part of the paths had been paved, flower beds had been laid out, and a fence had been installed. Preparations for moving in are being carried out with upper floors. On the 9th and 10th floors, the renovated rooms are almost fully equipped new furniture, lamps and curtains. Students will be provided with all the furniture necessary for living - beds, wardrobes, tables, chairs, cabinets and kitchen sets. Refrigerators and stoves will be delivered soon. On lower floors installation in progress suspended ceilings in the corridors, after which furniture will begin to be brought into the rooms.

Chairman of the Dormitory Council Gleb Gadlevsky noted: “When constructing a new dormitory, the wishes of students were taken into account. We will have club rooms for classes and student groups. IN ground floor There will be a laundry room, a gym and a cafe. In general, everything has been done in the new hostel for comfortable stay students and we look forward to moving in.”

The dormitory is designed as a block - with a kitchen, toilet and bathroom. Bathrooms are equipped with showers. The eleven-story building is designed for 1,200 residents. The student section of the hostel consists of 73 one-room, 183 two-room and one three-room blocks. The second part will house young university specialists. In addition, the hostel will be equipped with facilities for people with disabilities disabilities as part of creating a barrier-free environment.

It was no coincidence that I said that you entered the best university in Armenia. Indeed, from the very first day of our foundation, we tried to become one, we tried to become trendsetters in education, in Armenian reality, we tried to obtain and implement all those modern technologies and approaches that exist today in developed educational systems peace.

Despite all your youth, you should already realize today that you have entered a university that was founded by two states - Armenia and Russia, which is trying and introducing the best educational standards Armenia and Russia. This imposes a rather serious responsibility on you - responsibility to these two states. The fact that you are students of the Russian-Armenian University is a sign, a sign that you are obliged to know and love your homeland Armenia and Russia. Here we instill love and understanding of Great Russia. Awareness of this is very important for those who have just entered and are taking their first steps at our university.

Secondly, we are the best university also because from the first day we recognize ourselves as your partners and you as our partners, which is the most important thing. We would like these partnerships to work out for your benefit. educational process and gave you a real base to get deep knowledge. I would really like you to take this seriously. Today is almost the first day of your adult life, you must get rid of childhood in the sense that today you yourself are personally responsible for yourself. For us, partners are not parents, but students themselves, and students must maintain this level of partnership with the professors, with teachers, with the university.

The third thing I would like to draw your attention to is that there is one childhood characteristic that you do not need to say goodbye to - this is a sense of discovery, a readiness to be surprised. I would like to wish you to always keep this feeling, because it is the basis for new outstanding discoveries.

Fourth, we are a university that, despite its youth, has its own deep traditions, and we try to maintain and reproduce these traditions with each new generation of students. One of these traditions is the continuation of what we started a little over 10 years ago. Today, our teachers, our immediate colleagues and friends are our graduates, some of whom are today associate professors at our university. I would like to wish you to preserve this continuity and continue our traditions, because we deeply value, believe and love our graduates, our friends today. You will be taught the basics of knowledge by our graduates - the pride of our university.
Today we are introducing a step-by-step education system, which consists of bachelor's, master's, postgraduate studies, and doctoral studies will appear soon... We have all the opportunities for those of you who want to know science, life and have a say in life and science .

You should know that today we cooperate with many leading universities in the world, and not only in Russia. We have partners in the most different countries, we have the opportunity to develop your further education and we will support our best students who will have the opportunity to continue their education abroad. It is often said that education has reached a dead end. I do not agree with this - education has no boundaries for those people who want to know and have their say in science, there are no problems becoming part of a global university, scientific world. We at RAU give you such opportunities - this is a Swiss business school, our physicists collaborate with leading American institutes in the field of nanotechnology, our best students study at best universities Great Britain, USA... And this is also an indicator.

Next: knowing languages is an absolutely important thing. You have several years to master English and become trilingual citizens. This way you will feel in demand anywhere in the world and anywhere in life.

At our university we are creating a unique fusion, a unique community of people, I would say, international. Armenians from all over the world study with us Russian Federation, we have students from Sakhalin, Kamchatka, Ufa, Krasnodar, Rostov, not to mention from Moscow, St. Petersburg - from everywhere. And every such point on the map great Russia, where our diaspora is represented, this is a unique culture that is introduced into our fusion, into the community of people who make up the student body of the Russian-Armenian University today. You will not find such a community of people anywhere in Armenia. We also have a lot of Georgian citizens, I would like to greet the representatives’ children as well Russian troops who serve in Armenia... I would really like your joint communication to take place from the first day of your stay at RAU, because by mutually enriching each other you become stronger. The interpenetration of cultures is very important and is one of the most important features our university.

I would like to wish you that in your daily activities you leave room for independent work and for thinking. Knowledge is not discrete in nature, it is not finite. I would really like you to bring your creative element to the knowledge. Each person, thanks to the amount of knowledge that he has inside, should be able to continue to think and analyze for himself.

You must become patriots of our university. Each of you has your own social circle. Know that even though you are outside the walls of this university, you represent this university. Any of your actions and any of your actions will be reflected in the reputation of the university. I must say that it is very difficult to earn a reputation as a strong and self-confident educational institution through hard work and effort. We value this reputation very much. We will also very strictly monitor order at the university - we don’t smoke, don’t make noise, it’s not customary for us to insult each other, we practically don’t forgive those who interfere with our development, we just get rid of them.

I wish you good luck, success, I wish you this best time your life would not just fly by, but would pass with great benefit for you. To achieve this, we will do everything in our power, but I want to say that this is a two-way movement: we will try, but without your efforts we will not get anything. Therefore, I ask you: try with us, and in this case, in 4 years you are guaranteed to have the status that will allow you to walk through life confidently, with awareness of your own dignity. This is very important: a person must be aware of his own dignity, which must be based on his own intelligence, on knowledge, on acquired skills and on the strength of the team, institutional spirit that has already been formed at RAU and of which you have already become a part.

I wish you professional success and all the best! Good luck!

Nikita is not the only one who dreams of a military career.

I want to become an officer. The main thing is to get into a good place by distribution. For me this place is St. Petersburg. I like both the climate and the city itself. I will study hard. If you hang out all the time, then you can forget about St. Petersburg,” comments Kirill KOLTSOV, a first-year student at the Faculty of Radio Engineering and Electronics.

There are a lot of boys among those admitted, and only a few girls. I wonder what brought them to “brutal” specialties?

I want to get a red diploma. I entered the Faculty of Biotechnical Systems and Technologies on the advice of my parents. Future profession associated with medical equipment. I haven’t met my classmates yet. I hope everything is ahead,” Anastasia NUTOVA shares her impressions.

For some, the decision to enroll at VSTU was completely unexpected.

I looked at different institutes in advance, but I only recently learned about the specialty “nanoengineering”. Before that I wanted to be a history teacher, but last moment I changed my mind abruptly. My parents supported me,” Anastasia LITVINOVA smiles.

Before ceremonial lineup only a few minutes remain. Newly graduated students are hiding from bad weather near the walls of the university. The rain forced the kids to gather together under umbrellas and get to know their classmates better.

The weather is great today! - joked the rector of the flagship university Sergei KOLODIAZHNY.

Bad weather has made its own adjustments - the Day of Knowledge will be held not on the square in front of the university, but in the assembly hall

Each student, passing by, considers it his duty to say hello to the symbol of the university - the cat Lisa. Ask how she reacts? He sits on the stairs and sadly looks at the noisy youth. From Lisa’s face you can understand what September 1 means to a student.

10:38 VSLTU, Anastasia VENEVITINA

Despite the “bad weather” at VSFLTU named after. Morozov is already crowded with freshmen. The festive concert in honor of the Day of Knowledge was attended by many senior students who are eager to meet the new arrivals. The traditional lecture on the first of September by Lev Efremovich Kroychik is dedicated to creativity. The professor teaches freshmen not to be afraid of anything!

Step 1: Don't be afraid to look
Step 2. Don’t be afraid to understand the patterns of life
Step 3. Don't be afraid to think
Step 4. Don't be afraid to cultivate your imagination.
Step 5. Don’t be afraid to engage in dialogue with the outside world
Step 6. Don't be afraid to create yourself
Step 7. Don't be afraid to open the way to human freedom
Step 8: Don't be afraid to break through patterns. Don’t be afraid to think differently than everyone else, strive for freethinking. Stand up for your point of view
Step 9. Don't be afraid to trust your interlocutor. Behind the argument with us is an attempt by other people to defend theirs and accept our position. The world is diverse
Step 10: Don't be afraid to be courageous

We live in a world in which it is impossible to do nothing; hard work is required of us. If you want to work in professional journalism, then write 3-4 pages of text every day so that there is a thought behind each letter, Lev Efremovich finally gave advice to first-year students.

This is what the Science Corps means! Liquid nitrogen is fun for newbies. Now everyone is lining up to take part in the experimental kitchen.

10.10 VSU, Lydia BATURA

Freshmen enter the lobby of the main building, expecting something like class hour, like at school, but that was not the case. Students are greeted with jazz and twist by the musicians of the university rock band. At first everyone looks at what is happening in confusion, and then the bravest ones join in the dance.

10.05 VSU, Lydia BATURA

A huge number of students gathered on the threshold of the university. Coordinators are trying to rank the freshmen to create the phrase “VSU 100,” in honor of VSU’s upcoming 100th anniversary in 2018. First-year students in suits and with smiles raise their hands and enthusiastically shout somewhere upward: “Hurray!” Rector Dmitry ENDOVITSKY hands out a balloon to everyone, and after a few seconds the tricolor flies into the sky.

10:00 VSU, Evgenia GRINBERG

Good morning to all students, happy holiday! At the Faculty of Journalism, all first-year students gathered in auditorium 130 for an organizational meeting, but not an ordinary one, but with elements of a concert program from faculty activists. The so-called “choreographic prelude” from 2nd year student Polina POLYAKOVA captivated the newly minted freshmen. Next, the students had a traditional lecture from Lev Efremovich KROYCHIK, professor of the Department of History of Journalism and Literature.

September 1 in the Concert Hall of the Corps humanities faculties Day of Knowledge has passed. The gala event was organized for first-year students of the Institute of Childhood, the Institute of Social and Humanitarian Education, the Institute of History and Politics and the Faculty foreign languages.

The future teachers were congratulated by the musicians of “Cantus Firmus” - the orchestra of our university under the direction of Alexander Khurgin, and the choir of the Institute of Arts performed the Anthem of Russia and the anthem of the students - Gaudeamus. And after the musical introduction, the rector of MPGU, academician Alexey Lvovich Semenov, and Chief Editor publishing house “September 1” Artem Simonovich Soloveichik. In dialogue with each other and active communication with the audience, they touched on the history of pedagogy and science, and, of course, the history of our university, referring to the names of famous scientists - V.I. Vernadsky and L.S. Vygotsky. The two greatest minds of the 20th century not only influenced world science, but also played a huge role in the formation of our university, which today trains teachers, scientists, and educates socially active and responsible citizens. During their speech, both lecturers constantly asked the audience questions - about the school from which they came to Moscow State Pedagogical University, about their memories - joyful and not so joyful - that remained in their memory. Good school– what is she like? And is it in my power to make it better? A a good education– what does it depend on? One thing is clear: there must be an element of creativity in everything. And in studies as well! And, probably, the most productive teaching is in co-creation: when you not only listen, take dictation, but also actively participate in the process - you research, design, conduct an experiment. And, by the way, the program for the first month of training at the Institute of Childhood is aimed at precisely this - to try one’s hand at different types activities and collaboration.

After the ceremonial part, students of the Institute of Childhood mastered our new learning portal - InfoDu. Afterwards, everyone was shown a film about the history of Moscow State Pedagogical University. “House with history”, and then there was a discussion of it with the professor of the Institute of Childhood, Alexey Sergeevich Obukhov. Such a film lecture is the beginning of work within the framework of the month of immersion in the profession: tomorrow is planned as a Day of acquaintance with MPGU - its creation, architecture and famous personalities our university, who played an important role in the history of the country and science. This film also acted as a kind of announcement for the solemn celebration of the birthday of Moscow State Pedagogical University, which will be held on November 1, and for which first-year students will have to create their own videos. First homework received – school has begun!

Happy New School Year!
