End strips for roofing, correct fastening of the end strip, useful tips

Returning from the roof to the field of architecture, we can say that the additional planks are a set of elements that play the leading role of the border and the space enclosed between them. “Tin!” the reader will say. That's right, tin, but what!

The strict geometric shape of such a coating is a reliable barrier to moisture and wind. But it is necessary to choose and fix the bar according to the rules.

Two faithful friends - cornice and end planks

An integral part of a well-mounted roof are additional elements - eaves and end strips. Reliable protection of roofing with other elements of the roofing system: skylights, gutter system, ventilation ducts and chimney using planks is guaranteed.

Each cornice strip performs its specific function. The cornice plank protects the frontal board from possible wetting, and the end plank protects the roof covering and the crate from the wind. Structurally, the planks are similar to each other, because manufacturers make them using identical technology with the main sheets of metal or profiled sheets.

The slats are based on galvanized passivated steel up to 0.5 mm thick. The wind bar is made with a polyester and plastoizol coating. Composite end strips are additionally sprayed with basalt chips. What are the differences in fastening wind bars for different materials?

End plate fastening technology

The fastening of the end strip for metal tiles and corrugated board is somewhat different and depends on the relief of the material. The profiles of a profiled sheet and a metal tile are similar, so it is technologically justified to fasten them along the highest ridge.

The waviness of the profile of metal tiles and corrugated board, as well as the rigidity of materials, require the use and use of special bending devices. Planks and sheets of roofing material are overlapped.

devices for work

When forming edge joints for installing wind strips, metal shears and a tinsmith's clamp are used. Metal shears are made by the manufacturer from chrome-molybdenum steel. The handles of the scissors are equipped with protective protrusions for the hands and a hook for closing the cutting edges.

The tinsmith's clamp is used to mechanically change the integrity of the surface when changing the profile of the metal tile. The special locking mechanism of the clamp allows easy and precise bending. Fixing is carried out by simply pressing the handles. The clamping force can be adjusted with an adjusting screw.

Armed with a device for work, we proceed to the installation of the end plate.

We fix the bar on the metal tile

The wind bar on the metal roof is installed after the final installation of the tiles. The task of the plank is to cover the ends formed after laying the tiles from the ingress of wind and moisture.

The dimensions of the end strips are up to two meters in length, the width of the shelves of the strips can be from 130 to 145 mm. The bar is mounted in stages:

Installing the bar above the level of the crate

Lath layout in relation to end angle

Fixing the position of the overlap and the joint of the plank from above and from the side.

For some types of metal tiles, it is necessary to distinguish between left-handed and right-handed strips. Therefore, in the gable node, you can use the right and left wind strips.

Gable strips are designed for finishing the right and left gables. Installation of gable strips starts from the bottom up with an overlap of at least 10 cm.

The rigidity of the design of the plank and sheets of tiles involves the use of seals during installation. The place of fastening is the maximum wave of the tile, and the point of connection is the center of the end plank.

The fastener for mounting the plank are self-tapping screws, which are installed in increments of 20-30 cm. If the metal roofing sheet is laid correctly, then the plank should cover the end over the profile wave.

This video will help to make the correct fastening of the wind bar.

How to fix the wind bar on the corrugated board

A properly equipped gable roof cut from corrugated board will prevent sheets from breaking off. The end plate should be fixed after laying the main sheets. How to choose and how to fix the end plate?

The end strip for corrugated board is a component of the roof. The purpose of installing the bar is to increase the area of the lined surface. The bar is a flat bent sheet of corrugated material. The end plate has an end - a plug.

In order for the roofing connection to acquire the necessary rigidity, the sheets are installed along the end surface. To do this, additionally arrange a counter-lattice.

Plank installation steps:

The bar is installed perpendicular to the end of the roof

We mount the strip to the end part using self-tapping screws or rivets

Install the cap with self-tapping screws

We process the joints with mastic sealant.

If the allowance along the frontal part of the roof is insignificant, then the bar should be chosen with the dimensions of the shelves 25x80 mm. Recall that the end plate resembles a steel corner. The recommended fastening step of the strap is 200-300 mm, the overlap can be 100-150 mm.

Installation starts from the end of the roof. Mount the bar after the first wave of corrugated board with a lateral overlap of up to 50 mm. For a gentle slope with a slight angle of inclination, the overlap can be up to one and a half wavelengths. For longitudinal and transverse joints, sealing is provided using sealing tape and bituminous mastic.

Helpful Hints

Experts do not recommend the use of several planks connected to each other on the same plane of the roof. Any improper fastening reduces the resistance of the roof to wind loads. Therefore, it is preferable to make the relationship of the roof with the external environment correctly. And then the roof will last longer.
