Biography of the writer

Bazhov

Pavel Petrovich

(1879-1950)

Knitted eyebrows, kind, attentive eyes, a large gray beard - in the photographs Pavel Petrovich Bazhov looks old, wise storyteller. He was storyteller. Only his heroes lived fairy tales, it seemed, in the most unsuitable for fairy tale places: in mountain mines, among factory noise. In a word, where this wonderful writer and person was born and lived his long life.

And he was born on Ural, in the family of a mining foreman. Since childhood, he was attracted to people, legends, fairy tales and songs of our native Urals. Having become a teacher, he free time visited factories, villages, asked old people, wrote down in a thick notebook everything they told him told: there were fables, true stories and folk legends, songs composed centuries ago. And the unusual teacher had accumulated many such notebooks by the time the revolution took place in our country.

And then Pavel Bazhov left teaching, hid his notebooks and voluntarily went to the Red Army to protect the young woman with a rifle in his hands Soviet Republic. Only after the end of the civil war did Paul Bazhov I took out my treasured notebooks again. And they began to be filled with new entries. By this time he was a journalist. Due to his duties, he had to travel very often through old Ural mines, mining factories. And he did not lose a single opportunity to write down everything that attracted him so much.

Pavel Bazhov simple ones were interesting Ural masters, talented Russian craftsmen who poured steel, made weapons, created fabulous the beauty of iron and cast iron products. He was attracted by the spiritual beauty and dignity of a working person. Only such people discover the elemental forces of nature, only brave and pure-hearted people manage to penetrate the treasured storehouses Ural mountains, only they can unravel their secrets. So told in those legends that passed from generation to generation.

In 1924 Pavel Bazhov published his first book « The Ural ones were» . And the famous ones followed her "Malachite Box", "Key Stone", "Mistress of Copper Mountain", "The Great Snake" and many others « Ural tales» , as the author called them. They were a joyful discovery for everyone readers: from children to wise elders. In these tales the fantastic merged with the real, things happened in them extraordinary events, in which everything was as it should be in the real fairy tale: good defeated evil, all evil spirits retreated before courage and a clear conscience. For the first time heroes fairy tales are no longer gnomes, not heroes possessing extraordinary strength, but working people who know how to discern goodness in a lifeless stone, people need essence. "Good Looker"- that's what they called in Ural tales of such people.

Based on fairy tales created movie"Stone Flower", numerous works of music, sculpture, painting.

Presentation on the topic: Literary game based on P. Bazhov’s tale “The Silver Hoof” for elementary school

Probably, almost everyone at least once in their life has probably heard about the Mistress of the Copper Mountain, the Jumping Firefly or the Silver Hoof. And no wonder! After all, these characters have long been known and loved not only in their Ural homeland, but throughout the world far beyond its borders. And in the Urals itself they are so popular that they are placed not only on souvenirs and candy boxes, but even on the coats of arms of some cities. Like this! And for those of you who have not yet gotten to know these characters, today is the time to expand your horizons! Because we dedicate this quiz on our children's website to the tales of Pavel Petrovich Bazhov, a famous Ural writer who gave us these wonderful images and stories.

Bazhov was born on January 27, 1879 in the Urals, in small town Sysert. His father was a foreman at a mining plant, and his mother was a lacemaker (i.e., a craftswoman who makes lace). They lived poorly, and the family moved often - the father worked first at one factory, then at another. These travels through the metallurgical towns of the Urals made a huge impression on the future writer. They say that he really loved to visit the village of Polevaya (the current city of Polevsky), and listen to the stories of Vasily Alekseevich Khmelinin, who lived there - “Grandfather Slyshko,” as the guys called him. Slyshko got angry when the boys asked him to tell a fairy tale: “Old women tell little ones fairy tales. And I remember about old life. Only these are not fairy tales, but tales and experiences that are called. It’s different, hear me, and not everyone can say it. You have to be careful. And you say fairy tales!

It’s interesting that the Bazhovs’ surname was originally written as Bazhev, and “bazhit” means “to cast a spell, to conjure” in the northern language. This is where Bazhov’s boyish nickname came from - Koldunkov, which later became one of the writer’s literary pseudonyms - Koldunkov Yegorsha.

After graduating from the Perm Theological Seminary in 1899, Bazhov worked as a teacher of the Russian language. In 1911, he married his student, Valentina Alexandrovna (nee Ivanitskaya). The family had seven children, but dashing years Pavel and Valentina lost three. Bazhov spent his free time from work traveling around native land- recorded the stories of workers, studied the work of stone cutters, steelworkers, lapidaries, gunsmiths and other craftsmen of the Urals, collected folklore, mining legends and ancient oral traditions - the so-called “secret tales”, many of which were told to him by grandfather Slyshko in childhood.

IN October revolution Bazhov saw the end of social inequality. IN Civil War, at the end of April-beginning of May 1918, he arrived in the Semipalatinsk province, and in June 1918 - in the city of Ust-Kamenogorsk (Kazakhstan). He immediately got involved in organizing the underground and unified resistance tactics in the event of the fall of Soviet power in the region and district. Fought on the side of the Reds, was the boss information department headquarters of the 29th division, edited the army newspaper, published his essays, stories and feuilletons on the pages of Trench Pravda, for a year was a member of the Semipalatinsk provincial party committee, participated in the creation of partisan detachments in Altai and Siberia.

At the end of 1921, due to a serious illness and at the request of the Kamyshlov executive committee, Bazhov returned to his native Urals, to the city of Kamyshlov (the main reason was denunciations in the Provincial Cheka of Semipalatinsk about his inaction during the period of Kolchak’s power), where he continued his journalistic and literary activity, writes books on the history of the Urals, collects folklore records. In 1923-1931. works for the regional “Peasant Newspaper”. Bazhov’s first book of essays, “The Ural Were,” was published in 1924. In 1936, the first of his Ural tales, “The Maiden of Azovka,” was published in the magazine, which brought Bazhov fame overnight, and in 1939, the first edition of “Tales of the Old Urals” was published - this was the original title of the collection “The Malachite Box.” Subsequently, the author repeatedly replenished it with new tales - they became the main work of his life. To date, “The Malachite Box” has been reprinted many times in millions of copies and translated into dozens of languages around the world.

For our quiz, we took two tales from “The Malachite Box” - “The Stone Flower” and “The Mining Master”: those that tell us the story of the stone-cutter Danila the master and his brave bride Katerina. We will not retell it here, we will only note that readers loved it so much that it was filmed more than once, and also plays, ballets and even operas were staged based on it! But more interesting than all the cartoons and performances, of course, are the tales themselves. So, we wish you a fascinating read, and good luck in solving the quiz!

The snake holiday is gaining strength
A flower made of stone that grows in the mountain.
And if a mortal finds a miracle -
The white light will suddenly seem unkind..."

So the herbalist whispered to the orphan,
Treating it with a decoction of thyme.
The mountain was visible from the dilapidated porch,
A barely noticeable path led to it...

The scars from the severe spanking have already healed,
For the oversight of Danila the shepherd.
The clerk almost brought him to sin,
Tormenting the thin body with a biting...

According to malachite, the master lived in a village -
The stone was obedient in his hands.
Prokopich was getting old, but he couldn’t
Choose a boy to be your apprentice.

The master was not distinguished by his kind disposition -
He often tore the boys' ears.
But my soul trembled when I saw
This curly-haired boy has a sharp eye.

Old man Danile became a father -
The boy grew up and took on the experience.
Everything stood at the grinding machine -
He burned with tireless desire.

The young man wanted everything more than anything
Carve a living flower onto the bowl.
The wedding date has been pushed back again
Katyusha became more and more sad...

The hand is bold, the strong woman plays in it,
A thin leaf floats across the bowl,
With a carved edge -
Danila keeps wandering through the forest.

The master tries on all the herbs for the bowl -
The wild rosemary is modest, and the datura is a herb...

A frisky lizard flashed in the haze -
The hostess of the mountains invites you to visit.

The belief did not deter the young man -
He descended into the snake mountain.
How I ended up on the hill again
He didn’t remember. The eclipse took possession of him.

The dreams of a wondrous bride are unrealistic -
Danil lost peace forever.
And the damned snake path
Was taken into the bosom of a massive rock.

The path that led to the snake mountain,
It's already overgrown with thorny grass.
Is Danilushka dead or alive?
He became another innocent victim.

Summarizing
Task three “Put in order” You need to put the passages of the story in order.

1. Prokopich came home, and Danilushko was standing near the machine, looking at the malachite board. A cut has been made on this board - break off the edge. Here Danilushko is staring at this place and shaking his little head. Prokopich became curious about what this new guy was looking at here.
2.Danilushko took a rest. Grandma Vikhorikha stood him up. There was, they say, an old lady like that. Instead of a doctor in our factories, she was very famous. I knew the power in herbs: some from teeth, some from stress, some from aches... Well, everything is as it is. I myself collected those herbs at the very time when which herb had full strength. From such herbs and roots I prepared tinctures, boiled decoctions and mixed them with ointments.
3. Danilushko took off his shoes, put his knapsack under his head, covered himself with a thread, shivered a little - you see, it was cold in the hut in the autumn time - but he soon fell asleep. Prokopich also lay down, but could not sleep: he couldn’t get the conversation about the malachite pattern out of his head. He tossed and turned, got up, lit a candle and went to the machine - let’s try on this malachite board this way and that. It will close one edge, another... add a margin, subtract it. He’ll put it this way, turn it the other way, and it turns out that the boy understood the pattern better.
4. From then on, I began to run into the forest almost every day. It's time for mowing and berries. The grasses are all in bloom. Danilushko will stop somewhere in the meadow or in a clearing in the forest and stand and look. And then again he walks through the mowing and looks at the grass, as if looking for something. There were a lot of people in the forest and in the meadows at that time. They ask Danilushka if he has lost anything? He will smile sadly and say:
- I haven’t lost it, but I can’t find it. Well, who started talking:
- There's something wrong with the guy.
5.Only there was only one old man here. He also taught Prokopyich and those other masters. Everyone called him grandfather. He’s such a decrepit little old man, but he also understood this conversation and says to Danilushka:
- You, dear son, don’t walk on this floorboard! Get it out of your head! Otherwise you will end up with the Mistress as a mining master...
6. “A guy leaves and forgets. You need to marry him. That’s it! The extra nonsense will fly out of your head as soon as he starts a family.”
7. Those who said that he had made up his mind died in the forest, and those who did so again - the Mistress took him as a mountain foreman.
8. She said and stood up. Then something rustled, like an earthen scree. Danilushko looks, but there are no walls. The trees are tall, but not like those in our forests, but made of stone. Some are marble, some are made of coiled stone... Well, all sorts... Only alive, with branches, with leaves.

Topic: Heroes of fairy tales

10 points. The girl is tiny, like a doll, but alive. Red hair, a blue sundress and a handkerchief in his hand, also blue. The girl looked with cheerful eyes, flashed her teeth, put her hands on her hips, waved her handkerchief and started dancing.

(Fire-Jumping)

10 points. The braid is gray-black and doesn’t dangle like our girls’, but sticks straight to the back. At the end of the tape are either red or green. They shine through and ring subtly, like sheet copper. The girl is small in stature and looks good. Her clothes are made of silk malachite dress.

(Copper Mountain Mistress)

20 points. The goat is no taller than a table, its legs are thin, its head is small. Wherever he stamps his hoof, an expensive stone will appear. Once he stomps - one stone, twice he stomps - two stones, and where he starts to hit with his foot - there is a pile of expensive stones. His horns are excellent. Simple goats have two branches, but he has five branches. His fur is brown in summer and gray in winter.

(Silver hoof)

20 points. No more than three quarters tall. She’s wearing a blue dress, a blue scarf on her head, and she’s all blue, and so skinny that a breeze will blow and blow the old lady to pieces. However, her eyes are young, blue and so big, as if they didn’t belong here at all.

(Sinyushka)

30 points. There was a guy living in our factory. And he inherited from everyone. From the father - arms and shoulders, from the mother - teeth and speeches, from grandfather Ignat - a pick and a shovel, from grandmother Lukerya - a special wake. The guy was vigorous and capable, cool and cheerful - his work was paid for.

(Ilya sk. “Sinyushkin Well”)

30 points. The little boy was a little orphan. He is tall on his legs, but thin is thin, which is what keeps his soul going. The face is clean. Curly hair, blue eyes. And then he became tall and ruddy, curly and cheerful.
(Danila skit “Stone Flower”)

40 points. She's a tiny girl with a button nose. She cleaned the hut, cooked stew and porridge. I loved listening to fairy tales. Yes, I was still busy with the cat. She sewed the dolls herself and the clothes for them.

(Darenka)

40 points. She herself is black and fable, and her eyes are green. It’s like she doesn’t look like our girls at all. She wasn’t very fond of strangers. I learned to sew with silks and beads.
(Tanyusha. “Malachite Box”)
50 points. She has completely left the bride time. In our opinion, over twenty years old is considered overgrown. She was pretty, a nimble girl - she ran around doing housework - to the garden, to cook - to cook. He manages and sits down to do some needlework: sewing, knitting, you never know. And then I learned how to saw malachite stones.

(Katya. “Mining Master”)

50 points. The guy was here. He was Ilya’s same age. I’ve been hanging around gold for a long time, thinking about my own things - maybe I’ll get some good stuff, and I’ll be able to carry it away. He was an expert at putting someone else's things into his own pocket. In a word, a warrior. He also had a note on this craft. One miner scratched it with a spatula, but the notch remained as a memory - the nose to the lip was broken in half.

(Kuzma Dvoyrylko. “Sinyushkin Well”)

Topic: What tale are these lines from?.

10 points.“Walk cheerfully, work hard, and you’ll sleep well on a straw, you’ll have a sweet dream. Just as you don’t keep bad thoughts in your head, everything will go well for you, it will roll smoothly. And the white day will make you happy, and the dark night will make you happy, and the red sun will make you happy. Well, if you start thinking bad thoughts, even if you hit your head on a stump, everything will become unpleasant.”

(“Sinyushkin Well”)

10 points.“On a holiday he came to those people with whom the orphan lived. He sees. The hut is full of people, big and small. A girl is sitting on a little hole near the stove, and next to her is a brown cat. The girl is small, and the cat is small and so thin and tattered that it’s rare that anyone would let one like that into the hut. The girl is stroking this cat, and she purrs so loudly that you can hear her throughout the hut.”

("Silver Hoof")

20 points.“Once the prospectors were sitting in a circle of light in the forest. Four are big, and the fifth is a little boy. Eight years ago. Not more. His name was Fedyunka. It’s high time for everyone to go to bed, but the conversation was interesting. In the artel, you see, there was one old man. Dedko Efim. From a young age, he picked gold grains from the ground. You never know what kind of cases he had. He spoke, and the miners listened.”

(“Ognevushka-Jumping”)

20 points.“Well, the guy sees that there is nothing to do. I went to her, and she loomed with her hand, go around the ore on the other side. He walked around and saw that there were countless lizards here. And everyone, listen, is different. Some, for example, are green, others are blue, which fall into blue, and then like clay or sand, or mica, they shine, and others, like faded grass, and which are again decorated with patterns.”

("Mistress of the Copper Mountain")

30 points.“From that time on, Tanyushka became a craftswoman, and as she grew older, Vova looked like a bride. The factory guys have calloused their eyes about Nastasya’s windows, and they are afraid to approach Tanya. See, she’s unkind, sad, and even if she’s free, she’ll marry a serf.”

("Malachite Box")

30 points.“And so it went. Every day Prokopyich gives Danilushka work, but everything is fun. As soon as the snow fell, he told him and his neighbor to go pick up firewood and help him out. Well, what a help! He sits forward on the sleigh, drives the horse, and walks back behind the cart. He’ll wash himself off, eat at home, and sleep soundly.”

("Stone Flower")

40 points.“Then something rustled, like an earthen scree. The trees are tall, but not like those in our forests, but made of stone. Some are marble, some are made of coiled stone... Well, all sorts... Only alive, with branches, with leaves. They are swaying in the wind... Below there is grass, also made of stone. Azure, red... The sun is not visible, but it is as bright as before sunset.”

("Stone Flower")

40 points.“Katya sawed a stone. He sees that the pattern is unusual, and as planned, in which place to saw off across. Katya marveled at how cleverly everything worked out. I divided it according to the finished material and began to grind it. It's not a particularly tricky thing, and you can't do it without habit. I struggled at first, then I learned.”

("Mining Master")

50 points.“The moray shakes its head, and so does the goat. It's like they're talking. Then they started running around the mowing beds. The goat runs and runs, stops and lets hit with his hoof. Murenka will run up, the goat will jump further and hit with its hoof again. For a long time they ran around the mowing beds. They were no longer visible."

("Silver Hoof")

50 points.“When spring came, we ran to the old birch tree. So what? With the first shovel, there was so much sand that you couldn’t even wash it, but just pick out the gold with your hands. Dedko Efim even danced for joy.”
