At the same time, all communications will remain accessible when the roller shutters are open. And when closed, such a “curtain” will fit perfectly into the interior of a toilet or bathroom.
Everyone is familiar with ordinary “window” or “door” roller shutters - they can be seen on almost all windows and doors of shops, offices, and cafes located on the ground floor. Their use in plumbing “themes” causes certain inconveniences, in particular due to the limited space for installation.
The installation of plumbing roller shutters is quite simple. When lifted, the movable web is wound onto a shaft located in the upper box.
This process is facilitated by a special spring mechanism(PIM), which “helps” to easily raise and lower the roller shutters.
Correct adjustment of the mechanism ensures that the blade is fixed in any position without additional fixation. But this is only in case correct settings PIM.
Design restrictions! If the opening width is small (up to 520 mm), the spring mechanism will not fit in a shaft of such length. Therefore, in such cases it is used alternative way winding up and lowering roller shutters - cord mechanism.
Plumbing roller shutters in a toilet are usually installed from aluminum profile, which is not afraid of corrosion. Factory profile painting has increased wear resistance, and the polyurethane foam filling of the profile provides noise and even heat insulation.
Such roller shutters are easy to wash, and in the price range they are the cheapest options. These roller shutters are good.
The color range is quite wide. In addition to a dozen basic colors, it is possible to additionally paint the lamellas in one of 180 additional shades from the RAL scale. However, such additional painting will not always be as durable as the factory base paint.
In the case of “panel” finishing of your bathroom, when the walls are tiled in two colors, a combination of lamellas of several shades is possible. The guide rails also come in several shades, allowing them to be optimally combined with the flexible roller shutter leaf.
Roller shutters for the toilet with a pattern look special. Exclusive design can be given decorative panel using airbrushing or gluing a film with a pattern.
Installation of roller shutters in the toilet
Roller shutters in the bathroom are installed in several ways, which are determined by the design of the opening:
- installation in the opening:
- inside the box;
- outside the box.
- Installation “in the slip” - the box is located outside.
The first installation method is preferable, since it allows you to hide the entire box in a niche, leaving only its back wall visible from the front.And if the tiles on the walls have not yet been laid, then with this installation method you can attach the guides directly to the wall and they will carefully “sink” to the thickness of the tile installation.
The lamellas of the roller shutter canvas in this installation option will be turned towards us with the convex side.
Roller shutters have to be installed with the box facing outwards in case of limited space in the niche. In this case, width measurements are made on top of the laid tiles.
In this case, the lamellas of the canvas will “turn” towards us with the concave side.
One more functional feature installation “in the opening” is to reduce the useful width of the roller shutter by the total width of the guides (two 53 mm each), and the useful height by the size of the box.
Range of box sizes: 137 – 150 – 165 – 180 – 205 mm. The selected size is determined by the length of the rolled-up fabric, that is, the height of the roller shutter.
The option of installing roller shutters “in the trim” is mainly used when the wall thickness is small. With this option, the box is “forced” to be outside, without reducing usable height opening, and the frame is complemented by a lower guide.
Additional functional ways installation:
- If your bathroom is used dropped ceilings, then the box can generally be “hidden” above the ceiling plane. In other cases, the box will be located under the ceiling.
- A 20-25 cm distance between the box and the ceiling will allow you to use the box as an additional shelf.
- If there is no need to constantly open the “behind the toilet” part of the niche, the roller shutter canvas can be divided into two parts: the lower one will be permanently in place and raised manually only if necessary, and the upper one will in the usual way roll up into a box.
- In rare cases, it is possible to install the box even at the bottom of the roller shutter, but in this case it will be necessary to provide a locking mechanism at the top of the leaf.
How to install roller shutters?
Roller shutters in the bathroom are installed either as an overhead installation or as a built-in installation option.
Preparing the opening for installation
The frame of the assembled roller shutter is clearly rectangular design and, accordingly, an opening of the same shape is required, which is very rare, especially in old houses.
In general, the width of a niche is measured in three planes: top, middle and bottom.
And the width of the roller shutter is taken minimum value. For accurate installation, the discrepancy between these dimensions should be no more than 5 mm - such gaps can be easily decorated.
In the installation plane of the roller shutter frame on the walls, the presence of any volumetric decorative details is “contraindicated” (for example, stucco molding) - they will not allow the roller shutter guides to be tightly secured.
The procedure for directly installing a roller shutter on site is as follows:
- We check the completeness of the structure, which should include:
- roller shutter fabric;
- protective box with winding mechanism;
- guide rails (2 pcs.)
- accessory set.
- We prepare guide rails for installation on walls;
- for surface mounting, drill Ø8 mm holes through 2 walls front surface and tires.
- with a built-in installation option, drill Ø8 mm holes through 2 internal walls
Hole locations:- extreme ones - no closer than 10-15 cm from the edge of the tire;
- medium - evenly in increments of 45-50 cm.
- Using a drill Ø11.8 mm, we drill holes on the front wall (surface mounting option) or on inner wall(for built-in installation of roller shutters). These are holes for self-tapping screw heads and subsequent installation of plugs (front ones) in them.
- We drill holes Ø4.2 mm on the flanges of the protective box together with the lid - these are “sockets” for future rivets.
- Having taken the cover from the box, we drill Ø8 mm holes in the back wall box (surface mounting) and the side walls of the box (built-in). A combined fastening option is possible and desirable.
- For the overhead installation option, it is necessary to cut out pieces of flanging on the rear surface of the box in the places where the guides fit.
- We assemble the box and two guide rails together, after inserting plastic guide devices into them.
If your roller shutters require a lower frame at the bottom, you should cut grooves at the bottom of the guides for locking mechanism(though why is it needed in the toilet).
- The assembled frame is installed symmetrically with respect to the opening at the installation site, set strictly according to the level: vertical - tires, and horizontal - box.
- Through the finished holes in the box and tires, Ø8 mm holes are drilled for dowels, followed by alternately fixing the element (box or tire) with dowels. The process must be constantly monitored using a building level.
Note! If the roller shutter frame is mounted on a metal surface, all Ø8 mm holes described above are drilled with a smaller drill diameter corresponding to the diameter of the metal screws.
- We install the roller shutter panel into the grooves of the tires (guides). The canvas should be wound over the shaft from top to bottom from the rear surface of the box.
To avoid accidental damage to the canvas coating on the shaft of the structure, the latter must be temporarily wrapped with soft material.
