What can be prepared from a plant?

Tincture

For the manufacture of tincture, proportions of 1: 10 are taken (that is, 1 part of raw materials and 10 parts of vodka), after standing for a week at room temperature (in a dark place), the tincture is ready.

Bloom

Timing

This shrub blooms throughout the summer with spherical inflorescences. from many delicate flowers of an elongated shape.

Care before and after

Before flowering, you need to equip Rhodedondron Adams with a suitable place, watering and feeding, do not forget to spray, and after flowering, first of all, remove all flower stalks so that the seeds do not begin to ripen and also do not forget about feeding.

Also after flowering, you need to remove all the dried leaves and pinch for better bush formation (the best time). It is worth saying that it is better not to massively harvest raw materials (twigs) as in natural conditions.

Important! To prevent the plant from dying, it is allowed to pluck only a few leaves from one branch.

If it doesn't dissolve

It rarely happens, but if suddenly the bush does not bloom, then you planted it incorrectly, relocate to another location.

Rhododendron Adams will look great on the northern slopes, alpine hills, on the north side of the house.

At the same time, the plant feels quite comfortable in the garden. At least Rhododendron Adams, subject to care, refuses to bloom extremely rarely.

It is better to plant several copies at once tightly to each other. Given the flowering period - all summer, you can create spectacular compositions with other types of Rhododendron.

We ennoble the shrub

Location selection

The ideal choice would be a place in a small penumbra or on the north side of the house. You can plant it on an alpine hill on the north side, on any northern slopes - these are places close to natural.

What should be the soil?

Naturally, a very important role for the usefulness of the growth of Rhododendron Adams is given to the composition of the soil. On heavy dense soils, it simply cannot grow., the composition must be loose. Next in importance is acidity, we need slightly acidic soil. These are the two most important conditions when choosing a soil.

Landing

Only when the earth warms up well (not earlier than the end of April). You can plant a seedling, or you can sow seeds and get your seedlings, this is a very good way, since they usually have a high germination rate and you can immediately plant several plants. We sow seeds in a bowl with sand and peat in the spring and send everything to a mini-greenhouse.

Attention! Seeds will germinate in about one month (or a little less).

After the emergence of seedlings, we wait another month and dive the seedlings into pots. At this time, they require a cool temperature (not higher than 20 degrees), they can be planted in the garden in spring or the next canopy.

Temperature

Morozov is not afraid, he is able to survive at minus 32 degrees, he tolerates heat worse (a lover of a cool climate). The maximum possible temperature for Rhododendron Adams is plus 25 degrees. Ideally, it would be good for him to grow at temperatures from minus 15 to plus 15 degrees.

Watering

Moderate, it is worth watering as soon as the leaves begin to slightly lose their elasticity. It is important to create humidity around the plant, spray more often).

top dressing

Fertilizers need to be applied twice a season - in April and in September. It is best to use fertilizer for flowering shrubs.

pruning

It’s just that you don’t need to cut anything, if only it became necessary to rejuvenate an old plant, then in early spring you can cut off unnecessary shoots and immediately lubricate the wounds with garden pitch.

You can transplant the plant at any time of the active season, except for late autumn.(so that it is not weakened by winter).

It is better to do this together - you need to keep the bush even and carefully bury it, tamping the soil a little on the sides. At the end of the transplant, the bush should be well watered and mulched.

Preparing for winter

This variety winters well, but you still need to make sure. It is best to cover it with pine needles when frosts begin, they will perfectly protect the Rhododendron.

The shrub is quite low, and if you periodically sprinkle snow on it so that it is under the snow in frost, then there will be no problems with wintering.

reproduction

Rhododendron Adams is most reliable to propagate in two ways:

  • seeds;
  • dividing the bush.

Reproduction by seeds is no different from the reproduction of other types of Rhododendrons. By dividing the bush, it is easiest to propagate a relatively young bush during transplantation.

It is necessary to cut the root system in half and divide the shoots, process with coal, leave for 5 minutes, then land in the right place. It is advisable to spray these plants more often.

The most common pests:

  • mealybug;
  • scab;
  • spider mite.

Insecticide treatment will help get rid of pests.

The most dangerous diseases:

  1. chlorosis;
  2. sheet mosaic;
  3. divorces;
  4. rust;
  5. spotting.

All these are manifestations of a fungal disease. To treat these problems, the plant must be treated in a timely and thorough manner with copper sulphate.

Prevention of various problems

For prevention, it is necessary to treat the bush with Bordeaux mixture in spring and autumn.

Conclusion

What conclusion can be drawn in the end - if you really want and try, then you can grow everything in your garden. When growing Rhododendron Adams at home, you need to be prepared for the fact that this is an independent and very capricious specimen, and he doesn’t really want to “domesticate”. It will be easier for him to adapt to garden conditions when planting seeds.

  • Lighting - the plant lives in nature in semi-shaded places.
  • Groundwater level - the need for planting at higher elevations.
  • Soil - if the acid-base reaction does not meet the necessary requirements, for the successful cultivation of rhododendron in the front garden, it is necessary to prepare the soil in advance.
  • Attitude to the wind - the plant is planted in areas protected from winds and drafts.
  • Watering and humidity - Adams' rhododendron does not tolerate soil and air drought.
  • Dimensions - the compactness of the bush does not require a lot of space.

Planting an evergreen plant in open ground

The optimal time for planting rhododendron falls on the month of April. However, if an evergreen plant has a closed root system, then work can be carried out throughout the growing season.

Rhododendron is a highly ornamental shrub that belongs to the Heather family. There are a large number of varieties and varieties of this plant. In nature, rhododendron can be found in the form of a shrub and a tree. Rhododendron: planting and care requires special attention from the gardener. Description of species...

When choosing a site for a Far Eastern guest, preference should be given to the northeastern sides, protected from drafts and direct sunlight by various buildings. It is also worth avoiding lowlands, where moisture stagnation can lead to the death of ornamental shrubs. Since the Adams rhododendron needs acidic soil with a loose structure, it is recommended to prepare the soil in advance by digging it with the simultaneous introduction of peat, river sand and sulfur.

In order for an evergreen shrub to take root and delight the gardener with its unique flowering, it is necessary:

  1. In the selected area, dig landing holes with dimensions of 50x50 cm.
  2. At the bottom, place drainage layers of broken bricks.
  3. Then fill ⅔ of the pit with a loose soil mixture prepared from the extracted earth, peat and sand.
  4. Place pre-moistened rhododendron seedlings with a straightened root system on the substrate.
  5. Compact the trunk circles around the rhododendrons with the remaining soil mixture so that the root necks slightly rise above the ground level.
  6. In the final, the planted specimens should be moistened so that the soil settles, and there are no air gaps near the roots.

How to care for rhododendron

An exotic plant requires careful care and compliance with the basic agrotechnical rules of cultivation, which are dictated by the natural conditions for the growth of Adams rhododendron.

  • Watering. It is recommended to water the rhododendron regularly at the rate of 2 liters for each bush so that the earth always remains moist, but without moisture stagnation in the roots. During periods of intense heat, the plant responds well to sprinkling. After flowering is completed, moisture is gradually reduced and spraying the shrub is not required.
  • Loosening, weeding and mulching. In order for the soil to retain a loose structure that will provide free air and water permeability, the near-stem circle should be systematically loosened while weeds are removed. To reduce the number and frequency of procedures, soil mulching can be carried out.
  • Pruning. After flowering is completed, it is recommended to cut off the dried inflorescences. An evergreen shrub does not need to form a crown. But sanitary and anti-aging haircuts should be carried out as needed in early spring.
  • Transfer. If necessary, replanting the crop is allowed throughout the growing season so that it has time to take root before the onset of cold weather. When transplanting, the old earthen ball is necessarily preserved, which minimizes stress.
  • Preparing for winter. This variety is characterized by good frost resistance, so it tolerates winters easily. If there is a possibility of a little snowy winter season, then it is worth mulching the near-stem circle, and covering the bush itself with spruce branches.

During the growing season, Adams' rhododendron should be fed three times:

  1. The first top dressing with a high nitrogen content should be carried out immediately after the snow cover has melted.
  2. At the beginning of summer, phosphorus agrochemicals are introduced under the bushes.
  3. At the end of the summer season - the beginning of autumn, the immunity of rhododendron increases with the help of phosphorus-potassium fertilizer complexes.

Protection against diseases and pests

Among the diseases that rhododendron is susceptible to, spotting, rust, streaks and mosaics stand out, which usually appear on leaf plates and worsen the decorative qualities of the evergreen shrub.

Of the pests on the Adams rhododendron, aphids, spider mites, scale insects and mealybugs are noted. Such sucking insects should be dealt with with an insecticide.

Grass propagation methods

Despite the fact that it is possible to propagate the Adams rhododendron by seeds, the most productive and fastest are vegetative methods - dividing the bush and propagating by layering.

To propagate the plant by dividing the bush, during transplantation, when a developed, but not yet old bush is removed, the following actions are performed:

  1. The roots are cleaned from the soil and separated with a sharp tool.
  2. The cut sites are treated with an antiseptic, after which the delenki are seated in prepared planting pits.

When propagated by layering in the spring, low-lying shoots are pinned into the grooves and dug in. The tops of the layers remain on the surface. Throughout the spring-summer period, the shoots are watered and fed for successful rooting. In autumn, the layers are separated from the mother bush and planted in permanent places.
