This map of Layton Lake District shows the best locations to hunt and what animals you"ll find there. Have a look and you"ll know where to hunt if you want to hunt certain species or want to find an overall hotspot for animals.

Other The Hunter: COTW Guides:

Introduction

Locations with good animal population are encircled by a yellow line on the map. These spots often have a good view and feature several need zones.

There are colored circles on the border of the yellow lines showing what animals are most common over there. These can be big (very common) or small (common). Check the legend at the bottom of the map to find out what color represent each species. The very best spots are marked by a yellow star, usually you"ll find plenty of animals over there.

Important Note: Animals roam in other locations too and it"s possible that you find other species (less common) in a location than shown. But overall this should give you a good impression. Let me know if you have any comments or improvements.

Layton Lake District Map

Updated after the release of white-tailed jackrabbit. Apart from the addition of the jackrabbits, the locations of other animals have changed as well (mostly Moose).

Hirschfelden Hunting Reserve Map

The best locations for Canada Geese are around open fields, so the east half of the map including Schönfeldt.

Medved-Taiga

1. Once you enter the game, go through the tutorial and find your first base. There, at the locker you can buy a lot of free rifle cartridges. And in general, all purchases are located there.
2.The most easy way find the animal it screams. The more the scream expands across the screen, the closer the animal is. After which we take binoculars in our hands and track down our target; if you are lucky, the trigger will work and you can highlight the animal using the “E” button. To see the cry more accurately, you must immediately zoom in its direction, then it will become much smaller, showing the exact position of the animal.

3. It is best to shoot at the lungs and heart. If you don’t kill it right away, the animal will die not far away. Bears will also one-shot in the same place, no matter how tanky they are described. The head is often more difficult to hit, especially with a starting rifle.

4. You can track whether you killed an animal or not on the map. When an animal dies, purple circles appear on the map that the animals supposedly bypass.

As can be seen from the screenshots. It is painted only at the point of the shot, not at the point of death. Therefore, the animal may not necessarily be in this circle.
5. Your very first rifle is very oblique and has an accuracy of 75%. On average, 100m and less is optimal for it, and even then it doesn’t always hit at 100 meters (my record so far is 137 m). By hit, I mean a fatal hit. In general, consider accuracy when shooting.
6.The best farming points are the places where animals sleep, drink and eat. Even if you put 10 animals there, they will still go there because they do not run far away from shots. Especially if you have decoys.

Also, some animals move in packs, which, with some skill, gives you 2-3 kills.
7.Quests are very useful because they give a lot of experience and money.
8. The direction shown by the tracks may not always be correct. Rarely, it leads astray.
9. I’ll tell you about the mining rating (bronze, silver, gold, diamond). The rating is made up of several factors:
Production level- the size of the animal (trophy). A purely random value that does not depend on you. Binoculars usually indicate the complexity of the animal. Well, the males themselves are larger and more expensive. In a flock, it is worth looking at the difficulty of the target and choosing the most difficult one as the most expensive.
Quick Kill- the faster the animal dies, the better. Therefore, it is advisable to shoot at critical points (head, lungs, heart).
Condition of the animal- the point of using the right ammunition and weapons also depends on the number of holes in the carcass. That is. shooting with a magnum at a bear and elk at a small fox is not very good unless you want to pick it up piece by piece.
Sequence of successes- the most incomprehensible factor. It lies in the so-called kill streak. I.e. The more you kill identical animals, the greater the reward. In theory, they say you cut it better.
To get more experience and money, you need to fulfill these criteria. And catch epic animals.
10.Sometimes a weapon may disappear from your hands. To return it, take out the camera and select the weapon. Then it will return and be visible.

IN gaming industry There are genres that are not intended for a mass audience, but only for a certain category of players. The Swedish studio Expansion Worlds is engaged in one of these genres - a hunting simulator. These guys released their first project, theHunter, in 2014; the game was distributed according to the free-to-play model, which led to a large role of donations in the game, and as a result, criticism from players. After this, the developers released theHunter: Primal in 2015, but the game did not receive wide distribution. And now on February 16, 2017, the studio is releasing theHunter: Call of the Wild. This time the game requires a one-time purchase. The emphasis is on modern graphics, which we will talk about in more detail.

Hunting grounds

There are currently two hunting zones in the game.

The Hirschfelden Nature Reserve is a dense forest grove with mixed vegetation.

The Leighton Lake District is a lake area with beautiful bays and a predominance of bodies of water.

Both zones are truly huge and it is impossible to run around them. The graphics in the game are revealed more in the “forest” location, but on the lakes, on the contrary, drawbacks are visible at long distances. Reflections look weak, even at “Ultra” quality, and it’s almost impossible to get to the other effects. Sounds, trees, vegetation, animals - all the details of the atmosphere are made at the same level and easily surpass the “forest” of the last Witcher. It is also worth saying that you will not see detailed forest soil here (as in life), simply because there is a lack of modern facilities.

With all the richness of both locations, there is an unforgivable "jamb". After creating a character, he is not identified in any way; you can only choose his gender and skin color. In order to start hunting in another zone you will need to start new game, and all progress is lost - an incredible failure. The solution, in my opinion, is very simple, either make a single hunter for both locations, or enter several profiles with the ability to save the game separately.

Let's go hunting

From the very beginning they will begin to rub in you (I’ll tell you why they rub in below) poorly translated training into Russian through the gaming smartphone “Hunter”. You can also take on tasks that you don’t have to complete, but that will help you earn extra money. You are free to go in all four directions in search of prey. The first thing to pay attention to is animal detection, after you hear the noise being made, you start tracking the animal using binoculars and the remaining tracks. Binoculars will help to identify the victim, its gender, and condition at a long distance. The marks left behind may include bruised grass, droppings, or blood if the target has already been wounded. On the other hand, at the same time the animal detects you. You make noise and smell. Everything is simple with noise; moving through dense vegetation, jumping, running, firing in all directions is strictly undesirable. Smells travel with the wind, and if the wind is weak, then your presence spreads over a short distance.

Animals can move either in a pack or alone.

There are other objects on the map besides animals and you. For example, observation towers, they work one on one, like in the Assassin's Creed series of games.

These towers are completely unsuitable for hunting.

Additionally, you can build smaller towers and lure victims there; it will not be easy for animals to notice you.

The locations for these towers are pre-selected. Near where food and water are consumed, with good visibility.

Let's move on to the moment when you have already tracked the victim and are ready to shoot. There are enough weapons in the game to give you a choice. Rifles, pistols, revolvers, shotguns and bows. As well as the ability to handle each of them, you will be able to upgrade it in a successful hunt. In addition to skills, the game has skills. Skills are about your weapon, skills are about you.

It’s better to read tracks, not run out of breath while running, move silently and even predict the weather.

After the shot, the game registers the hit to the victim with precision to the organ, if you hit, of course, if you miss, the victim literally disappears from sight. Depending on how quickly you killed the victim and did not harm him, you are awarded money and experience.

Two shots plus “dirty” running after a deer is not greatly rewarded.

With the money you earn you can buy new weapons and equipment.

In each region there are strong points in which you need to check in, after which you can move there and use the store.

General impression

The game as a whole looks completely thought out and debugged, theHunter: Call of the Wild has amazing sounds and images. The eye rejoices at every corner, and the ears rejoice at every rustle. All aspects of the game are at a decent level, with the exception of localization. As for localization, the word “rub in” is absolutely justified here, since a paragraph of text in the game may even be translated incorrectly or not completed, this is no good. The voices are not translated at all, despite the fact that there are few lines in the game, and there are two speaking characters.

Grade

  • You are a fan of the genre 10/10 (random passerby - 8/10).

An incredible hunting simulator in terms of depth of immersion and atmosphere - alas, with annoying bugs.

Gambling addiction https://www.site/ https://www.site/

theHunter: Call of the Wild appeared on Steam in the middle of last month without much fanfare, but it certainly did not escape the attentive gaze of an experienced hunter. And everything about it is simply wonderful: an open world, a variety of game, picturesque graphics and even a network mode for joint hunting trips...

But one minus negated all the advantages: the technical implementation of the project was terrible. Many players suffered from frequent crashes, for some the game did not start at all, and in some places internal bugs reached the point of ridiculousness: from banal texture gaps to completely absurd accelerated movement if your character raises his head to the sky.

We've put off this review for a long time. We patiently tracked the next doe, traded rifles for shotguns, and even went bowhunting, all while waiting for updates that ruled a heap of minor issues. But the miracle did not happen, we did not expect any changes, and therefore our assessment will be lower than we hoped.

Natural color

The first thing that the new theHunter can hook you with is the locations. There are two of them in the game so far: the Leighton Lake District and the Hirschfelden Nature Reserve. They differ not only in landscape and vegetation, but also in the types of prey found there. For each area you will have to select the appropriate equipment, but at first you won’t have to worry about this - with a basic set of things you will have time to get used to it.

Help you get comfortable in the world wildlife there will be a local caretaker (there is one at each location). Under his leadership, you will learn the basic elements of hunting - such as searching for an animal using the tracks left behind or the intricacies of unnoticed movement. Sometimes he will offer you to complete this or that quest - it is not necessary to complete them, but experience and money will not be superfluous.

In fact, theHunter does not oblige you to anything at all. You start your journey on the edge of the location, with a rifle, a handful of cartridges, binoculars and two decoys, and what happens next is up to you. Although this is a hunting simulator, you can find many other activities for yourself that do not necessarily lead to killing animals: collecting notes, collecting antlers, photo hunting, and simply meditative walks through the enchanting autumn forest.

Nature in theHunter deserves a special mention. The combination of an unusually realistic forest, natural sounds and sophisticated light provides full immersion. The impressions, of course, are not exactly the same as when you go out of town to shoot ducks, but very similar. The meticulousness with which the developers approached the creation of the gaming space gives rise to an extraordinary atmosphere. For the first few hours, we simply listened in fascination to the night bird whistles, the rustling of leaves and the crunch of underbrush under our feet.

Patience, the main thing is patience

But theHunter is not a hiking simulator; the main thing here is hunting. And if the game throws you breathtaking landscapes every five minutes, then it is no longer so generous with loot. You have to search for animals long and hard. And you will have to rely only on yourself - there will be no hints, no “eagle vision” and no arrows. Traces and droppings left behind, sounds and popular habitats - for example, a watering hole - will help you in your search.

Finding the beast is only half the battle; you still need to kill it. Headshots are effective as always, but you'll never get hit. Basic optics will not provide you with the required magnification, and you will have to get closer to the prey, and this is always fraught with undesirable consequences. You can be heard, seen, or even smelled if the wind blows in the wrong direction. Then the fallow deer or roe deer that you have been following for the last two hours through ravines and gullies will disappear in fear, and the search will begin again.

To play theHunter, you will need a titanic supply of patience. You can log into the game for eight hours and come out empty-handed. Follow the trail for ten kilometers only to discover that you got lost somewhere and simply made a circle. Finally, stumble upon a rare loot, only to discover that you have already wasted all your ammunition.

Of course, the game does not convey the full sensations of a real hunt, but it comes very close. There is no catch or deliberate complication in game design - it all depends on your skill and your luck.

And this immediately puts theHunter into the category of games “not for everyone.” Agree, not everyone is ready to spend several hours squatting between the trees in the hope that there is a fox, but you still need to see it in tall grass, will not suddenly decide to hunt for a rabbit and will not rush off into the bushes on the second space mission.

But, if you get involved in this somewhat monotonous gameplay, the game will not make you bored. Even bugs sometimes play into your hands and lift your spirits. So, for example, when we were tracking a red deer for the second hour - quite a valuable prey - it was even funny to find it desperately running inside the cobblestones.

And once again we were gored by a herd of frightened roe deer, and, believe me, if in the same Dark Souls you always know where to find a vile enemy and take brutal revenge on him, then after such a ridiculous death in theHunter you will only have to curse and maybe laugh a little.

But every catch, even the smallest one, will certainly give you a lot of pleasure and greatly improve your self-esteem, and if you managed to track down and shoot a particularly rare animal - such unique representatives are also found in the game - then you can quite easily put on a pith helmet and consider yourself a great hunter.

You will have the opportunity to purchase additional equipment. At first, after your first visit to a local store, it may seem that there are not so many items, but over time, skepticism will dissipate, because you adapt to the weapon, you get used to it and then you won’t want to part with each one.

In addition to various rifles, the game includes shotguns, revolvers and bows. The latter look a little pretentious against the general background, but they have their own tasks. A revolver is not needed for hunting, it is a means of self-defense, because not all the inhabitants of the forest will run away in fear when you approach. And a bow in skillful hands is even more useful than a rifle - it doesn’t hit as far, but it doesn’t rattle. There are also different types of ammunition, decoys to attract different animals, improved binoculars and other accessories.

To open items, to earn little from them (although you will get tired of earning for some), you need to have required level hunter And here the elements of the role-playing genre appear in the game. Your character has two leveling trees, in each of which points of a certain type are invested - skills or abilities, where the first are responsible for bonuses to shooting, and the second are for your movement and tracking down prey.

You get points for level, level - for experience, experience - for completed quests, obtained trophies, open locations, etc. At first, the bonuses are of little use, but over time, as you develop your character, you will notice that the game has become friendlier to you.

Thirty-three misfortunes

We really didn't want to criticize the game. No, some disadvantages are obvious, but not particularly important. For example, the project is truly purely for amateurs, but this cannot be called a disadvantage, rather a feature. Many players are lured by screenshots and the developer's track record of explosive action films Just Cause, could decide that running after wolves and moose is no less exciting than starting revolutions.

Both the excitement and tension of the hunt are indeed present, but not everyone will feel them. And if you take on quests rather than free adventures, you will probably get tired of plodding along to the goal. Even moving quickly won't help much.

If you remember the legendary flight simulator " IL-2: Sturmovik", there was something similar there. Just flying to the goal for twenty minutes (and theHunter has both a constant running button and a constant moving button) is boring. After all, it’s one thing to run from track to track, stepping on the animal’s heels, and another thing to simply get from point A to point B, and very, very slowly.

But that’s not the problem with theHunter: Call of the Wild. The whole problem, as already mentioned, is bugs. Almost all of them are small and insignificant, but during the passage so many of them accumulate that they take in numbers.

If you lie on the ground, you can look under the location; if you look up, the character will noticeably speed up. Some animals get stuck in the textures, and once an entire herd of roe deer got their hooves stuck in the side of a mountain. Either the effect of constant screen blur is activated, then the character’s smartphone appears without a display, and sometimes the game simply crashes without explanation.
