The popularity of roller blinds is growing every year. They fit perfectly into almost any interior style of a house or apartment, they are reliable, easy to use, and ergonomic.

Roller blinds- this is a canvas that can be assembled into a roll using a lifting mechanism.

There are different types of roller blinds. Which one would be better suited To interior decoration premises?

Features of roller blinds

Blinds are very convenient and practical solution for interior design and everyday life. Window curtains help regulate daylight in room.

There are blinds:

  • vertical;
  • horizontal;
  • roll

What is the design of roller blinds? Fabric or non-woven solid material that is rolled into a roll. When unfolded, such a curtain covers the entire window. Their guides are attached to the back of the material. The bottom bar moves along guides. Even if the structure tilts a little, this will not affect the quality of operation.

No need to worry about ironing roller blinds or having them fade from sunlight. Roller blinds do not fade or deform under the influence of humidity and temperature changes. If you purchase high quality blinds, dust will practically not settle on them, since the materials from which they are made are coated by manufacturers with special substances that have antistatic properties.

They are divided by the presence of their constituent elements - plates located parallel to each other. Roller blinds, unlike ordinary ones, are a continuous strip of fabric.

When choosing them, the main criterion is light transmission. Depending on this parameter, there are 4 categories of curtains:

  • transparent;
  • translucent;
  • Black-out (strong shading);
  • Dim-out (medium shading).

In the manufacture of roller blinds, the materials used are the most various types. If it is necessary to create a chamber atmosphere in a room, purchase designs of darker, more saturated shades. For small rooms excellent design solution are floor blinds transparent materials, which will visually increase the space of even the most small room and give it airiness.

Methods for attaching roller blinds

The classification of the types of such blinds is also based on the specifics of their fastening. The presence or absence of a box is an important factor; not only the appearance of the structure, but also its functioning depends on it.

If you decide to stop at open form, be sure to take it into account when purchasing the following nuances. Open systems differ in the diameter of the shaft on which the material is wound. You definitely need to pay attention to the type of bottom bar, its shape and width, and how well the bracket itself works.

The choice of roller blinds primarily depends on the size of the window opening. The larger the window, the correspondingly larger the curtain and the size of the structures that move it should be. Open system It is convenient in that, if you do not need to cover the entire window with a curtain, you can purchase a small roll-up design for one window opening. In this form, the window will look no less aesthetically pleasing. And a small roll system will be perceived as a design accent.

A closed system is much more complex in design. In addition to the shaft, fabric, guide mechanism, each such curtain has a box. The folded fabric is at the top and is hidden behind it. As soon as you need to close the window, it lowers down using guides and a mechanism. Closed systems are more expensive than open ones, but they have a number of features that other systems do not have. simple designs. U closed structures the fabric is located closer to the surface of the window, which gives the device a more laconic appearance. The specificity of the mechanism of closed curtains is reflected in their appearance: They look more presentable and never sag.

Types of roll structures are distinguished according to the specifics of their management lifting mechanism. Roller blinds are driven by a chain cord, a spring holder, and an electric drive. It is by the type of these devices that they are distinguished. What makes a chain cord especially convenient is that it can be installed on any side of the fabric, as convenient. Roller blinds, which have a spring holder, are easily fixed to required level and simple, comfortable to operate. However, when purchasing such structures, you must definitely pay attention to the quality of the spring that powers their mechanism. The spring often stretches during operation. She, if made from low-quality metal, quickly becomes unusable. And then there will be only two options: either change the spring, or buy a new roll structure.

Traditional curtains and blinds had to make room, giving way to a new type of window design - roller blinds, which are also called fabric roller blinds. They successfully fit into different interiors, concise, attractive and functional. To choose roller blinds for plastic windows for each room in the apartment, you need to take a closer look at their types, types of fastening and the properties of the materials from which they are made.

Roller products originated from the famous Roman blinds, but made from modern materials, with an improved mechanism, they have become a new phenomenon in design window openings. Built-in devices raise and lower the roller blinds to any position, allowing you to adjust the light intensity.

Roller blinds, placed strictly according to the dimensions of a window opening or a separate double-glazed window, as in the photo, evoke associations with colored inserts.

Mounting methods

The size of the curtain is directly related to the parameters of the window opening and the glass package, so before going to the store you need to measure the window. The length is universal, usually does not exceed 1.8 m and is suitable for any configuration of PVC windows.

Curtains can be attached to the entire window at once - above the window opening or inside it. This is done when the sash does not open or is rarely used. But more often they are connected to each window sash autonomously, and this is one of the main features of such curtains. Let's look at several options for installing fabric roller blinds.

"Open" mount

Everything is simple here:

  • a shaft with fabric wound around it;
  • mechanism that drives the shaft;
  • bottom bar that performs the leveling function.

The size of the curtain, the diameter of the shaft, the shape and thickness of the strip may vary, but the principle of operation is the same. In this case, the fabric does not adhere tightly to the window glass, but the weighting material at the bottom of the curtain does not allow the fabric to sag.

Note! If the roller blind is attached over the window opening to avoid side gaps, it should be at least 10 cm wider than it.

The cost of such curtains in comparison with other varieties is relatively low.

Mini system

This is an improved and cheaper version of traditional roller blinds. Due to the compactness of the control unit and fixing components, such roller blinds are suitable for small windows. Controlled using a chain. Installation and dismantling takes literally a few minutes.

Cassette roller blinds

Cassette curtains are equipped with a decorative box, masking the shaft. The kit contains side rails that act as guides for the canvas. They help the curtain fit tightly to the window and prevent light from entering from the side cracks.

The main advantage: the window opens unhindered. An additional plus is the free surface of the window sill.

Some cassette roller blinds have spring device regulating the length of the panel. They are usually installed on roof windows to keep the canvas taut. The mechanism can be controlled either manually or using remote control. This is especially convenient when the windows are located high.

Such a system is in many ways superior to an open one; it is more beautiful, more practical, but costs more.

Helpful advice. When buying cassette curtains, they look not only at the color of the curtains, but also at the color of the box. It’s good when it matches the tone of the window frame.

Lovolight system

Louvolite roller blinds are designed for large windows. They are fixed under the ceiling and unfolded to the floor. Reliable components allow you to decorate panoramic windows with such curtains up to 7 m wide and 6 m high. Lovolight roller blinds are sold with both an open shaft and one hidden in a box. Possible option remote control. They are most often installed in offices and store windows.

"Day Night"

Among the latest successful developments in the field of sun protection systems is a double roller blind, which harmoniously combines the advantages of roller blinds and blinds. It consists of 2 parallel canvases, in which transparent and opaque stripes of equal width alternate in succession.

Lightproof elements consist of dense natural and synthetic materials. Light-transmitting areas are made of tulle, organza, fine mesh or veil. The strips connect each other thermally, treated with Teflon impregnation, which provides dust-repellent and antistatic qualities. Such curtains can have both open and cassette roller systems.

When the control chain moves, the transparent and opaque strips change their position relative to each other:

  • when transparent areas coincide, the room is illuminated as much as possible;
  • if the coincidence is not complete, a pleasant twilight appears;
  • when covered with dense strips transparent window ceases to be a source of street light.

How to hang: video

Hanging roller blinds is easy if you familiarize yourself with simple technology. Before installation, the kit is pre-assembled and fasteners are prepared. The device is mounted with self-tapping screws or PVC brackets. Places for drilling are chosen carefully so as not to touch the important structures of the glass unit with the drill.

Or you can do without a drill: there are roller blinds that are secured with double-sided tape or special brackets. For the latter, you need to choose a model with corner hooks that are hung from above on the opening sash. The swing-out part is equipped with a magnetic system that ensures guaranteed fixation of the device.

But installation using self-tapping screws is, of course, more reliable. Usually, the purchase comes with instructions that will help you assemble and install a new roller blind without calling a technician. The following video will clearly introduce you to the process.

  • blackout - curtains made of this material do not allow light to pass through (light reflection - 95%), cold and noise. Perfect for creating an atmosphere of calm, comfort, and safety;
  • dimout – decorative fabric with an original structure of complex satin weave, has the ability to pass diffuse light, providing complete darkness at night;
  • “day-night” - the fabric consists of strips with different light transmittance;
  • transparent - their function is limited to window decoration. They are used together with regular curtains.

The colors and textures of materials can be very varied and depend only on the preferences of the owner of the room.

Care

Although roller blinds are impregnated with a solution that maintains its original shape and protects from dirt, they also require care. It can’t be called complicated, but there are certain rules:

  • Regular washing is contraindicated, especially if the fabric is 100% natural. To avoid damaging the special impregnation, use soft sponges and neutral detergents.
  • A washing machine is categorically not acceptable.
  • Wet cleaning or washing should be the last way when dry treatment does not help. Often, a regular eraser can remove stains.
  • Products must not be folded or bent.
  • Curtains are not hung to dry; this is the cause of creases.

In our article we analyze the types of roll products, the materials for their manufacture, and the basic selection rules for residential premises.

Types of roller blinds

Among the types of roller blinds for plastic windows, four main groups can be distinguished.

Classic roller blinds. An alternative name for classic roller blinds is open or vertical roller blinds, since they do not have a special box hiding the shaft for winding the material. This type of curtain can be attached to the frame, to the wall, to the ceiling, and even to the window top. They are easy to install and operate, and their price depends on the size.

Cassette roller blinds. Or closed roller blinds, in the upper part they have plastic box, hiding the shaft, and special guides are installed on the sides of the window along which the canvas moves. Cassette roller blinds fit snugly to the frame and do not sag, which allows them to be mounted on skylights. Such models are not the cheapest option for window design.

Day-night roller blinds. Day-night roller blinds are made of two layers of fabric - light transparent and dark protective, and these two fabrics alternate in stripes. When wound on the shaft, the strips shift, thereby allowing you to more accurately adjust the level of illumination in the room.

Roller blinds for plastic windows as in the photo, either with or without drilling using tape or other special devices.

They are environmentally friendly and aesthetically pleasing, but are very prone to color fading, are fire hazards and accumulate a lot of dust. Even with slight dirt, such roller blinds will have to be removed from the curtain rod and completely washed, and then ironed.

Bamboo roller blinds They are a canvas made of many straws intertwined with cord. Small gaps between the rods do not let through a large number of light and gently diffuse it around the room. Bamboo curtains are environmentally friendly; despite their naturalness, they are resistant to moisture, very durable and lightweight.

Bamboo roller blinds absorb odors well and can be a fire hazard, so place them away from gas stoves in the kitchen.

Wooden roller blinds look like regular blinds, that's right, they are made of wooden planks, which rotate in the same way as blinds. Only when lifting are wooden roller blinds wound onto the shaft, like fabric ones. Like all natural materials, wood is easily flammable, but the roller blinds are very durable, waterproof, and easy to care for, as you just need to wipe them with a damp cloth.

Roller blinds for plastic windows - varieties and 3 installation methods without drilling the frame

Roller blinds or roller blinds for plastic windows are now experiencing the peak of their popularity. In addition to beauty and convenience, people appreciate the ability to attach these mechanisms without drilling the frame. Let's go through the types and models of such curtains, and I will tell practitioners in detail and show how to install such mechanisms in 3 ways, independently and without using practically any tools.

Types of curtains for plastic windows

Let’s be clear right away - we’ll talk about how to attach curtains with a roller mechanism to a PVC frame without damaging the frame itself. Models that are mounted on walls or in window openings in this case not interested. But first, let's figure out what types of overhead curtains exist:

  • Curtain blinds They were, perhaps, the very first to install them on plastic windows. The model is not bad, but from the moment it appeared on the market it began to be mercilessly used in offices and administrative buildings, that’s why people associate blinds with something official and not entirely cozy;

  • Corrugated models or as they are also called pleated curtains. In this case, there are no problems with originality and homely warmth, but such a pleated “accordion” is quite difficult to care for. Imagine how to clean such curtains, oh machine washable there is no speech at all, the folds cannot bear it;

  • Vertical roll mechanisms in this series they act as a golden mean. After all, what could be more homely than a smooth woven fabric with patterns. This fabric can be removed, washed, ironed and hung back at any time. Plus average price for flat models is slightly lower than that of blinds and corrugations.

But that’s not all, the roller mechanisms themselves are divided into 2 subtypes:

  1. The simplest and most affordable models are considered open type. The shaft with the wound web is open here, and in order for it to hang tightly evenly, a weighting strip is attached to it along the lower edge;
  2. So-called cassette curtains for plastic windows cost half as much. From previous version they differ in that the roll is hidden in a box (cassette), and the web moves along guides.

In turn, cassette mechanisms are divided into 2 more models: UNI1 and UNI2:

  1. In the UNI1 model, the “rails” for the canvas are attached to the side of the window bead from the inside. As a result, the canvas moves almost close to the glass;
  2. The UNI2 model is placed directly on top of the glazing bead and there is a gap between the glass and the canvas equal to the thickness of the glazing bead.

Three ways to install roller mechanisms

As I promised, in all 3 methods you will hardly need any tools, but you will still have to prepare a tape measure, a pencil, scissors, a knife, double-sided tape and a bottle of cologne or alcohol.

There are now mechanisms on the market with roll lengths from 300 to 1400 mm, and the choice of one method or another depends on the dimensions and weight of the model.

Method number 1. Opening frame hanger

Photo Explanations
Suspension device.

In this model, the roller with the canvas wound on it is attached to 2 plastic hooks, which in turn cling to the top side of the opening window frame.

There is no need to buy any parts separately; everything comes in one set. Except that the colors and types of fabric may change.

Hook assembly.

The hooks in such hangers are collapsible, this is done so that the size of the grip can be adjusted according to the thickness of the window frame.
A strip of double-sided tape should be glued to the contact back side of each hook. Before gluing the tape, the plastic is degreased with alcohol.

Roll holder.
Fitting.

Now we need to determine the location of the mechanism. To do this, we put it on the window frame and mark with a pencil the location of the hanging hooks.

There is no need to remove the protective tape from the tape at this stage.

Degreasing.

Before finally attaching the hooks, the frame must be wiped with alcohol to degrease it.

It is not advisable to use any solvents, as they can corrode the plastic.

Attaching hooks.

Now remove the protective tape from the tape and install the hooks on the frame according to the markings.

Insert the lifting mechanism.

The lifting mechanism consists of a carriage and a chain. The carriage is built into the suspension, you only need to thread the chain into it.

Assembly.

Now insert the shaft itself with the blade into the holders.

Tests.

Method No. 2. Blind sash

Photo Explanations
We attach the tape.

Since the sash does not open, there is nothing to cling to, so we will glue the brackets with double-sided tape.

Use instead of tape good glue it is possible, but keep in mind that it will no longer be possible to remove the bracket without damaging the frame.

Installation of holders.

The technology here is similar to the option with hooks - the holders are inserted into special grooves.

Marking.

Now we temporarily assemble the entire system and, placing it in the appropriate place, mark the installation points of the brackets.
