There are many ways to create a non-standard interior or zoning a room. Combining wallpaper is one of them, the least expensive in terms of resources and time. This technique is used by those who want to save money and level out existing design disadvantages: unprofitable ledges or niches, too low ceilings, narrow space. The main thing when renovating is to take into account all the features of the room.

The purpose of combining should be not just to relieve boredom. It is designed to focus attention on a certain point or zone. Aimless application of “patches” on the walls will make the interior tacky and will only emphasize the owner’s lack of taste.

When accentuating one of the walls with wallpaper, you need to choose the “right” one. This is usually the wall that catches the eye when entering a room. It can also be located in the background part of one of the functional areas or behind a furniture group: dining table, desk, upholstered furniture, which will only benefit from a suitable background.

The principle of choosing a wall was absolutely unmistakable in Soviet times. The main attraction - the Uzbek carpet - always hung where it was needed and was visible from any vantage point.

The boundaries of the accent wall are also determined in advance. And this must be the entire wall, and not some part of it behind the sofa (what will happen if the sofa suddenly has to be moved?). These are not several walls, sometimes decorated with companions, but giving the impression that the room was papered with remnants from a previous renovation.

The following simple rules must be taken into account:

  1. Accent wallpaper is glued to the view wall. The desired minimum distance to it is 3-4 m. The “Khrushchev” kitchen, for example, is not very suitable for such a design.
  2. Combining two types of wallpaper with an active pattern is contraindicated, even if they are companions.
  3. Photo wallpapers or any other with a dynamic print go best with plain ones.
  4. To avoid having to rack your brains over the design of joints, accent wallpaper takes up space from one corner to another or to a niche or ledge.
  5. The basis for creating any combination should be a certain idea; it is necessary to rivet the eyes of those present on something specific.

Combination errors

All the mistakes of designers can be reduced to the following basic ones:

  1. Lack of purpose when combining, acting on a whim.
  2. Choosing the “wrong” wall.
  3. Placing wallpaper in pieces, with borders not in the corners. The exception is inserts with finishing of joints with moldings or when the wall is divided into two parts horizontally.
  4. The layout of the duet without taking into account the characteristics of the room.

In order not to spoil the picture of the fresh renovation, you cannot

  • Place large furniture near a wall with large patterns; the optimal background in this case is plain;
  • decorate a small room with dark colors; light shades are more harmonious, preferably no more than three;
  • decorate a large wall in a narrow room with patterns, they will narrow the space even more;
  • stick wallpaper with horizontal stripes at low ceilings, the ceiling will press even more;
  • vertical stripes will make a narrow room with high ceilings even more awkward.

How to combine wallpaper by color?

Scientists have proven that colors affect not only mood, but also health. For a comfortable life, design colors are chosen for a reason. They are combined according to certain rules. Not all shades look harmonious next to each other. Sometimes even unexpected combinations fascinate, in other cases you want to look away quickly. Combinations for the interior are selected according to the same principle by which a bouquet or toiletries are collected.

Taking into account furniture and decor, there are usually three to four to seven colors in the room. There are never many of them, they only serve for variety and add emphasis. The main two are the colors of wallpaper, flooring, and furniture elements. When choosing a color, first of all pay attention to the size of the room.

The color scheme of the walls determines the overall decor of the entire room. Some color elements from a wallpaper pair are necessarily duplicated in the interior: they are repeated in furniture upholstery, echoing doors or floor and ceiling coverings.

Shades of the same color

The combination of wallpaper of the same color in one room is considered classic. The walls can be patterned, regular, chaotic, barely expressed. For a small room, two types of wallpaper with the same pattern, slightly different in shade - the combination is the most acceptable.

Monochromatic combinations can differ only in saturation. The priority zone is highlighted with richer shades.

Any room will look organic if it combines decorations of the same color, but with different textures. Textured elements look much more impressive if they are made in the same color. Shiny surfaces look unusual when combined with matte ones. In addition, small rooms with shiny walls will appear visually more spacious.

Contrasting colors

Correctly combining several bright paintings that you like in the interior is a delicate matter. Those without experience in this matter are on a slippery slope. It is also worth considering the price of assorted coatings. The look of expensive silk-screen printing can quickly be ruined by placing budget paper nearby.

The contrast method is most often used to decorate living rooms or bedrooms. One of the colors should be active, and the second neutral.

Modern design ideas are based on stylishness and rejection of everyday life. Special techniques consist of combining warm and cold colors and using eye-catching colors. Possible options are:

  • simple, when harmonious, unidirectional color schemes are combined;
  • moderate, when the wallpaper tones do not combine with each other, but have something in common with the space;
  • complex if the interior is decorated with more than three colors of different saturations.

Adjacent shades of the color wheel

To maintain the integrity of the interior, and not to miss the choice of finishing colors, use a special cheat sheet called the color wheel. With its help, you can select similar colors by simply taking 2-3 or 5 located nearby.

Advanced designers usually use not 2, but 3-4 shades, which are diluted with universal black, white or gray. Since they do not exist in nature, they are not shown in the diagram. In the design of the premises they act not only as additional, but also as main ones.

Color combination (table)

It's fun to work on choosing the right colors on your own. But those without experience tend to make mistakes. There are tables that greatly simplify the process. The main thing is to know how to use them.

This or a similar scheme is used, remembering that the first color must be used as the main one. The two following it can act as additional ones, those that follow are accent ones.

There are tables that present contrasting combinations or those compiled on a complementary principle. From the proposed options, you just need to choose the combination that you like most.

How to design a transition when combining

Whether or not to decorate the joints when gluing depends on the thickness of the finish and the chosen style. There are several methods for decorating the transition: pasting borders with borders, moldings, wooden slats, thin strips, stucco molding, and ceiling plinths can be used.

No transition

The classic joint is usually not decorated with anything. To ensure that the edges of assorted wallpapers match perfectly, they are not initially coated with glue, but are placed overlapping each other. Then a sharp knife is drawn along the joint (the line can be smooth or wavy). The waste is discarded, and the edges of the canvases are coated with glue and attached to the wall.

Wallpaper border

Paper framing is not a problem. It can be matched to the wallpaper at the point of purchase from a catalog or cut out from the wallpaper strip itself. The advantage of this finish is its low cost, ease of gluing and removal. Disadvantage: susceptibility to ultraviolet radiation and mechanical damage.

You can choose vinyl and acrylic edging; they are approximately similar in quality. Textile is denser and more durable due to its two-layer structure consisting of paper and fabric.

You should not rely on the quality of the self-adhesive edging; it tends to fall off spontaneously over time. It is advisable to glue it, additionally coating it with glue initially.

Moldings

Decorative elements framed by moldings look quite original. Such inserts were mostly used in classic interiors. Previously, such ideas were implemented only by representatives of the upper class, since the fabrics used were very expensive. Now such panels are possible in the style of Provence and country. Modern Art Nouveau follows the same path, slightly modifying the frame. Its role is played by a border cut from the fabric of the same collection.

Silk-screen printing, embossed coatings, and other similar options are used as inserts. Moldings will also help, if it is necessary to combine wallpaper of different thicknesses, to design a transition to another type of finish or architectural element.

Combination methods

Combination is always creative, creativity. Some of his techniques can be very bold, especially if the stylistic decision involves the use of bright contrasts and unconventional combinations. Therefore, you need to select the decor carefully. When purchasing materials, you need to consider the following key factors:

  • degree of illumination;
  • footage of the room;
  • planned style;
  • shades and textures should not “quarrel” with each other.

Choosing texture is usually easier than choosing the right color scheme. If all types of finishing in the apartment can be combined into one harmonious whole, a satisfactory result is obtained:

  • the room seems to increase in size;
  • irregular shapes, uneven walls are hidden;
  • the interior is filled with light;
  • separate zones appear;
  • the winning features of the layout and style are emphasized.

Combining horizontally

The method is most successful if you cover the room with wallpaper of different types, for example, the upper part is paper, and the lower part is embossed vinyl or non-woven. The walls will receive additional protection, and partial repairs will be easier and cheaper.

Horizontal stripes can be distributed over the entire height, alternating in color and pattern. If you decide to glue only two types of wallpaper, then the parts should be in a 2:1 ratio.

The height of the separation can be changed, focusing on the levels of furniture, window sill, taking into account the layout and size of the room.

Joints oriented horizontally are much more difficult to mask, so the use of moldings, all kinds of borders, and baguettes is appropriate here. Traditionally, the border is made at a height of no more than a meter, but only if the height of the walls is small. For unusually high ceilings, the joint is placed at a height of 1.5-2 m. This distance is oriented relative to the floor, not the ceiling, otherwise the slightest unevenness will be noticeable.

Combining vertically

The essence of the method is to vertically connect wallpaper of different tones and textures. The method allows you to visually raise the ceiling level. The room will seem higher, the thinner the fragments of the picture. The stripes are not necessarily of the same size. Strips of different widths alternate in a certain sequence.

If the combined fragments are not the same in texture, moldings or borders will be required to decorate the borders.

Combinations of coatings of the same color, but of different intensities, alternation of dynamic shades with calm ones, wallpaper with patterns and plain-colored ones are popular. Flowers with stripes look good in a retro style.

Plain and plain

A technique ideal for highlighting several functional areas of space in a similar color scheme. Companions from the same manufacturer will be a win-win option. Not too variegated shades, relief patterns, and silk-screen printing look noble.

For a harmonious design, when using plain wallpaper, choose canvases with neutral and more active colors, and materials of different textures. The trick of having a brighter wall will draw attention away from the unevenness on a wall with a neutral color. In the bedroom, for example, deeper, darker shades are used in the sleeping area. The play of shadows helps to calm down and relax.

Accent wall

To ensure that the accent on the wall not only attracts the eye, but also improves the design, you must follow some rules:

  • ideally there is only one such wall, rarely two, never three, this introduces dissonance;
  • Only part of the wall or such architectural elements as arches, niches can become accent;
  • accent colors are not necessarily bright, soft combinations are acceptable;
  • You can “move” the accent wall using warm and cool shades.

It is necessary to remember: the technique dictates the mood of the entire interior, and therefore can either completely ruin it or balance it.

In a modern interior, an accent wall usually sets the focal point. It is decorated with bright monochromatic canvases or wallpaper with large ornaments and digital printing. The color scheme of the remaining surfaces is as neutral as possible. This approach is applicable to any room. And due to the fact that expensive materials are used only on one of the walls, significant savings are achieved.

Pattern or ornament and plain

Collections often present a popular combination option - plain wallpaper with the same ones, where a pattern or ornament is applied to the base.

If you select companions yourself, you must be extremely careful and try to match future companions in good lighting. It is also important not to deviate from the rule:

  • large drawings and bright colors are good only in a spacious, bright room;
  • in a pair where the first part is an ornament, the second should be textural.

Pattern and Pattern

Different patterns look quite harmonious in one room. But they must have something unifying: motifs, some elements, color.

The technique is often used in horizontal combinations, when the lower part of the wall, for example, is decorated with wallpaper with an ornament, and the upper, lighter part is decorated with small flowers. In the same way, you can combine large monograms or a floral pattern with discreet geometric ripples that give the impression of a monochromatic background.

Two types of wallpaper are used for zoning, but only if they are not competitors. Colored companions divide, for example, a children's room, or allocate an area near the desktop. The connection point should not be provocative; it should not be decorated with moldings; it is even better if it is angular.

Patchwork technique

The combination is carried out using flaps, for which canvases are selected that are in harmony with each other. They are cut into identical or different pieces, glued end-to-end or overlapping, and placed like on a chessboard. The patches can be two-color or have more shades, with different geometric shapes: square, rectangular. They are cut out in the shape of a circle to make appliqués on finished walls.

A similar panel looks stylish at the head of the bed, in the nursery. If the color scheme seems too variegated, it is balanced with several white fragments.

Allocation of niches

When trying to disguise niches that seem to be a lack of a room, they often achieve the opposite effect. It's better to go the other way and highlight them. To do this, wallpaper is glued there in a different color or a couple of tones darker than the main ones. If you use textured wallpaper and equip the niche with lighting, it will create an interesting interior relief and enliven the room with the play of shadows.

Using cool tones will allow you to visually distance the wall and shift the emphasis to the item located in the niche.

Room zoning

Sometimes one room is divided into zones, each of which performs its own function. Along with other methods, a method is used when part of the space is separated from the rest using wallpaper with patterns or other color shades.

The solutions are quite unusual. Separation is achieved not only by color, but also by texture. One option is to separate, for example, the kitchen from the dining room by covering it with structural wallpaper for painting. One area is decorated with a floral pattern, and the next one is decorated with a checkered print of the same color scheme. The main thing will be not to make a mistake with the arrangement of furniture.

Zoning with wallpaper will help you define the boundaries of the zone without effort and extra expenses: you won’t need either plasterboard partitions or heavy curtains.

Brick or stone masonry in the loft style is becoming less and less popular. Such a change in the interior requires a considerable investment of time and resources, and is not always acceptable due to the excessive load on the foundation. In a particularly small apartment, it is appropriate to replace this material with its imitation.

The room, covered with light wallpaper, is complemented by a wall made of white brick. Red brick will look great when surrounded by matte gray or white walls. An apron in the kitchen work area and a fake fireplace in the living room will not be discordant if you correctly match the color scheme of your companions. The texture of the brick is conveyed so realistically that it can only be distinguished from the real thing by touching it.

Photo wallpaper, like any cladding with an active pattern, can only be combined with plain walls. It doesn’t matter what story the eye initially falls on. The main thing is to adhere to the basic rules:

  • choose the right drawing;
  • guess the size;
  • maintain consistency in quality and palette between photo wallpaper and basic wallpaper.

There is no need to combine types of megalopolises by color. They will go with almost everything, as long as they are not variegated or even monochromatic. It is better to place lush greenery in rooms full of light. A white, beige or grayish main background harmonizes well with it.

Rooms with windows facing north are decorated with bright, large images. Sunflowers or oranges will warm you up and add sunshine. The remaining walls are covered with light, warm, dim wallpaper.

Photo wallpaper is also used for zoning, to emphasize the horizontal, to highlight architectural protrusions and niches. They are not so often combined with contrasting, rich companions: beige is combined with purple, green, blue and orange. Perspective images will significantly affect the size of the room.

To emphasize the interesting texture of the coating, the room is decorated in a single color. The use of flashy textures must be balanced with calm shades and the absence of unnecessary details and patterns. It is customary to combine a clear texture with the same companions or at least similar in thickness. It is better not to place the seams between them on a flat wall, but to place them in a corner.

Textured wallpaper is the best alternative to liquid wallpaper. The texture can appear in the form of stripes and curls, abstract images, and vegetation. The coverings are easy to glue, can be painted, are joined on walls, and used to decorate ceilings.

At first glance, liquid wallpaper looks like decorative plaster, is suitable for any room, and goes well with non-woven wallpaper.

The most acceptable combinations are those achieved by playing with color. Liquid wallpaper can be easily combined with each other, other materials, and complemented with drawings and original patterns. They are used to create panels, and if “kneaded” thicker, then into decorative volumetric elements, for example, imitation stucco.

Focus point

A certain visual anchor that attracts the attention of those entering the room, a beautiful detail that is the center of the interior, acts as a focal point. It can be natural, such as a niche, a fireplace or a large window behind which a beautiful view opens.

If there are no such architectural details or a delightful panorama, then a painting, sculpture, or furniture group, which the designer “designates” as the main ones, can act as the focal point. Proper lighting and background wallpaper will help highlight them. The latter are combined in such a way that part of the wall differs in shade from the main one and is monochromatic or stands out with an unusual pattern. The effect can be complemented by framing and decorative decorations.

Decorative decorations

To change the interior without undertaking a grandiose renovation, it is enough to use ready-made or hand-made decorative stickers. They stick easily, and now there are some that can be removed without consequences.

The themes and style of this decor are very diverse, suitable for any stylistic direction: loft, avant-garde. These can be small stickers or large silhouette images of people and animals. With their help, they enliven the decor of a children's room, place accents in the living room, combine disparate pieces of furniture and appliances in the kitchen, and add positivity to the bedroom.

Combination of wallpaper combinations in rooms

Not everyone likes experiments and decides to move away from the traditional wallpapering of each room in the same color. In order for a fresh renovation to look harmonious, you must first study a large number of recommendations from knowledgeable designers, study examples with photos, and develop an idea that would take into account the functional features of each room.

Living room

The room where visitors are received is often called the hall. Here they receive guests, hold evening gatherings with tea parties, meet colleagues and important guests. Therefore, it should not only be comfortable for the family, but also maintain the image of the owners as successful people, not lacking in taste. There is no need to skimp on the quality of finishing of this room. The classics are applicable here, a combination of silk-screen printing, glass wallpaper, and the use of non-woven and vinyl wallpaper.

The hall most often serves as a living room and dining room, and sometimes as a bedroom. One of the corners can be a work area or a library. Wallpaper partners will help divide the space into zones. The main violin is played by the size of the room. If the living room is small, it is better to resort to light shades. In vast spaces, you don’t have to limit your imagination; you can experiment with textures and colors.

The recreation area is usually made lighter, decorated with plain canvases or with small patterns. The place where upholstered furniture, a fireplace group, and a plasma are located will benefit from being decorated with more saturated colors and beautiful patterns.

Bedroom

Since the zone is intimate, they proceed only from their own preferences, having previously agreed on the basic principles with their partner.

The main role of the room is to help you relax and ensure proper rest. Bright contrasts and catchy patterns are not appropriate here. It is better to decorate the walls with calm colors: beige and white; for those who like a darker bedroom, use various shades of brown and blue.

It is better to choose a smooth texture. In addition to traditional ones, fashionable fabric wallpapers look good in the bedroom. It is desirable that they overlap with textiles: curtains, bedspreads. If you combine them with other types, then the joints will have to be covered with moldings or slats due to the discrepancy in the thickness of the materials.

Combining different types of wallpaper, the headboard is covered with textured, darker materials, photo wallpaper, and an emphasis is placed on it. In order to isolate the sleeping area, the accent strip is continued along the ceiling.

Kitchen

In the kitchen, solving the problem of choosing the right color combination is not so easy. There is a lot of furniture here, one of the walls is often occupied by tiles, leaving very little space for wallpaper. In addition, they need to be combined not only with all the furniture, but also with the work area, refrigerator, and other household appliances.

In order not to oversaturate the kitchen with colors, the wallpaper duo should be made neutral, without large patterns. A large kitchen-dining room is decorated more brightly, but here pastel shades, light colors, and if the drawings are small, will still look more harmonious.

Bathroom

The microclimate of the room is not conducive to wallpapering it. Other coatings that resist moisture well are more appropriate here. But if the bathroom is spacious and well ventilated, then it can be partially decorated with wallpaper, especially since the canvases are easy to change if it suddenly turns out that they are slightly peeling off.

It is better to use moisture-resistant, washable materials. Liquid wallpaper, which after hardening is coated with acrylic varnish, is also suitable. Use options with vinyl wallpaper. They are a little expensive, but their level of fixation can be increased with special glue. Self-adhesive and glass wallpaper that are not afraid of moisture are also a good solution. All of them go well with each other, with 3D and photo wallpaper. It is better not to place the latter directly next to the shower. This area is decorated with tiles, and wallpaper is pasted near the washing machine, sink, and in the toilet area, where splashes do not reach. The main thing is that the combination of color and texture does not cause any complaints.

Children's

In this room you can let the colors run wild. But even here it is better to adhere to the general rule and not combine more than 2-3 colors. Of these, only 2 can be saturated.

For the little ones, choose neutral shades. It is not necessary for girls to adhere to pink, and boys to blue. You can choose any colors. Among the most popular for children are green and yellow, peach and apricot, natural colors of wood, green tea, olive, lilac.

The nursery, like the bedroom, needs a comfortable environment. Dark shades are inappropriate here; bright and cheerful ones are welcome, but not distracting from activities. A room for two children can be divided with different types of wallpaper into individual areas, the play area can be highlighted with accent canvases, and the design can be diversified with decorative stickers in the form of silhouettes of animals, geometric shapes, exotic plants, rockets and ships.

The patchwork technique is used to ensure that the colors of the patches match the tone of the floor. A wall with photo wallpapers and stylized drawings will look good.

Hallway and corridor

This room is rarely spacious. In most cases it is narrow and long. You shouldn’t make it very dark, unless you do the lower part of the walls in darker colors if the border between the partners runs across.

The joint between the ceiling and the wall is often decorated with a special side, where the lighting is masked. This technique helps to “raise” the suspended ceiling and enliven the interior with reflections from it. A cramped and narrow corridor will seem much more spacious with proper layout of wallpaper and thoughtful lighting.

In a room not cluttered with furniture, wallpaper inserts, moldings and borders, mirrors in harmony with the frame, and small geometric and floral patterns look beautiful.

It is advisable to cover the area closest to the front door with washable wallpaper or wear-resistant glass wallpaper. Posters, photographs, and all kinds of stickers will help decorate the corridor and make it more alive.

An antique style, replete with columns, arches, marble elements, and stucco molding, can be realized without spending money on gold frescoes. Wallpaper that imitates wall painting is combined with plain pastel colors. Photo wallpapers with natural and historical scenes are placed on the walls. The style will be supported by moldings and stucco molding made of polyurethane.

The splendor of Rococo and Baroque will be emphasized by silk-screen printing and fabric-based wallpaper. Paper photo wallpaper will help imitate woven trellises. Instead of stucco molding, pompous moldings will be used.

Classic color schemes from milky to burgundy, geometric prints, panels, and combining wallpaper horizontally are quite feasible. Wooden slats are placed at the joints; the bottom of the wall is sometimes decorated with carved wood or plastic.

For Victorian style, the best wallpaper print is stripes, checks, and floral motifs.

The Japanese ambiance will be supported by natural, laconic colors and themed photo wallpapers.

The interpenetration of Europe and China is expressed in grace, a mixture of familiar furniture with paper panels. Oriental style is wallpaper with unusual birds and flowers.

Turkish style will fill the bedroom with turquoise and azure, and will dictate that the headboard be designed not in a square, but in the shape of a dome or arch.

Rustic country and Provence will require simple textures on the walls, matte canvases with a small scattering of flowers. It is advisable to combine the colors of the wallpaper with the curtains.

An Alpine chalet is characterized by simple materials, a discreet cork or bamboo base in combination with imitation brickwork.

Modern trends take something from the classic interior, but there are also rough textures like metal or masonry. Photo wallpapers depicting mechanisms and gears are used.

It’s easy to get confused by the offers on the market. Whitewashing and water-based painting are now used as a budget option that has been proven over the years. Those who want a more modern design, decorate the interior with wood and stone, decorative plaster, PVC panels and eco-leather are used. There is a special wall linoleum on sale, which can scare away just by its name. They have little in common with the well-known floor covering. All materials are good in their own way, have a special texture and certain decorative properties. But not everyone can compare with wallpaper in price and ease of installation. In addition, a room completely covered with stone or tiles is unlikely to impress with its coziness. The best option is to combine.

Wallpapers and panels

Decorative coating, which is now made from a wide variety of materials, goes well with wallpaper. This tandem always looks presentable and expensive. Depending on the style of the room, the panel materials used are very different: PVC, gypsum, textiles, wood shavings, sometimes marble and metal. Someone manages to use parquet and laminate on the walls. Why not?

Combination with brick

Many now fashionable styles (Gothic, loft or Scandinavian) treat unplastered walls very kindly. To prevent the brutality in the room from going off scale, one of the walls, or only part of it, is left “bare”. The rest of the perimeter is finished with wallpaper suitable for the style and decor, colored or plain.

Combination with decorative stone

Having stripped the walls of plaster, you won’t always get to the brick. But if you still want something made of stone, then the exposed concrete wall can be finished with decorative stone. The main requirement is to think through the decoration of the remaining walls, to link the types of coatings and decor with each other.

Tile

The most popular places in the home, the kitchen or the bathroom, cannot do without finishing with an equally popular material – tiles. Tile plus wallpaper is the most versatile option that allows you to realize your design fantasies. In this pair you can play with everything: the shape of the tiles and the pattern of the wallpaper, their texture and color, the method of laying the tiles and gluing the wallpaper.

The combination is built on contrast or combined with a common color and elements. Other materials can be added to the combination: glass panels, decorative plaster.

Plaster

The material is used not only for leveling walls. When decorating an interior in an antique, Arabic or Gothic style, decorative plaster is indispensable. She will embody the beauty of marble and an ethnic theme. With its help they create paintings and applications. A chic panel can be placed on only one wall. But there are many ideas on how to combine two popular materials.

The accent can be the plaster itself, the image on it. Or it becomes the background for the wall where bright photo wallpapers are pasted.

With timber and wood

The combination of wood and wallpaper is not a new technique. It has been used for centuries. Most often, the bottom of the wall is finished with wooden panels, and wallpaper is glued to the top part.

There are wallpapers that themselves imitate logs stacked on top of each other, worn boards or tree bark eaten away by insects. They can be used in the interior of both a city apartment and a country wooden house with beams under the ceiling and walls made of timber.

As with stone, an all-wood environment needs to be softened with something to give the room a cozy, residential look. Timber in combination with light wallpaper is widely used for finishing country houses and cottages in a rustic, Scandinavian style. Now fashionable bamboo and cork wallpapers will fit well into wooden walls.

However, use also carries many advantages: this design not only looks richer and more interesting, but also performs additional practical functions, providing protection to the walls. For example, interior decor made using textile inserts from or imitation of protective panels from will be perceived as more impressive and stylish, and you will be able to protect the room from premature loss of its original appearance.

2 types to combine to suit every taste and at different prices - and enjoy a pleasant, comfortable and bright environment in your home.

What types of wallpaper can be combined?

In many photos of combining wallpaper, covering walls with different wallpapers does not create an imbalance in the overall environment. What is this connected with? When choosing materials for such finishing, you must remember that the success of your design and the degree of comfort in the room will depend on the harmonious combination of wallpaper in the space.

It is advisable to choose materials with similar texture, which correspond to each other both in color and in thickness of the canvas, otherwise joints will be visible on the walls, and sharp transitions between shades will further focus attention on these shortcomings.

To decide how to decorate a room with two types of wallpaper, think about what parameters such materials should have depending on the type and size of the room. For example, it is mandatory to comply with fire-resistant properties, in the bathroom - resistance to moisture, and - environmental friendliness.

The size of the room can be one of the key factors of imbalance, since not all textures look harmonious in tight spaces. For example, wallpaper with a pronounced shape will reduce the already cramped interior.

As most suitable for finishing materials in different rooms you can choose the following types of wallpaper:

When talking about the combination of such materials, one should not lose sight of their harmony. For example, textile materials combined with liquid wallpaper will look contradictory due to the lack of common elements and completely opposite textures. But with the right combinations they can create an original and cozy design.

Remember! When combining different wallpapers in one room, wallpaper with a more pronounced relief will act as an accent, so the design layout should depend on the nature of the main materials in your interior.

Many people wonder whether it is possible to combine wallpaper with glossy and matte textures. Although such materials may not look harmonious enough, in modern interiors you can get rid of the disadvantages of such a combination. Eg, glossy wallpaper can be used to decorate only one of the walls, due to which the space of the room will expand.

In addition, made of glossy materials you can create original inserts with moldings, which will provide a decorative effect. We will tell you further about common types of wallpaper combinations.

Horizontal division with wallpaper

You can combine different wallpapers in a room using a horizontal principle. The wall is divided into two or several parts and decorated straight lines stretching the space in breadth. Horizontal combinations of wallpaper are most often implemented in residential premises with the aim of visually expanding the area and lowering the ceiling level.

There are several ways to do this horizontally:

  • textured horizontal stripes on the entire wall they are framed with moldings or special strips and play the role of continuous decorative inserts;
  • wallpapers of different types with similar themes and divide the wall into two parts and are separated with the help of auxiliary devices;
  • textured wallpaper They are glued only to the bottom of the wall, creating the effect of a protective panel for the walls.

Advice: horizontal division of walls can be easily transformed into a complex combination: the wallpaper border is cut in a wavy or zigzag shape. To ensure an easier process of creating such a composition, you can use liquid combined wallpaper.

In order for the interior to be perceived harmoniously, pay attention to the shade of the purchased materials for combination. As a rule, when dividing walls horizontally, they are used for gluing in the lower zone of the surface, while coverings decorate the upper part, ensuring the creation of a bright and comfortable environment.

Vertical combination

A room with two wallpapers will look taller and brighter, especially if the textured wallpaper is a darker shade.

To ensure that transitions between materials are not noticeable, choose similar textures, and also focus on the same theme of the drawings.

For example, paper wallpaper decorated in spring floral prints on a snow-white background will look beautiful and gentle next to textured wallpaper or shade.

Using vertical inserts you can create an accent on some walls x or their individual parts: protrusions, niches, small decorative structures. Quite often, vertical stripes are glued on both sides of the fireplace or directly above it to create an accent effect.

Stripes can be glued next to the sofa, in the kitchen - in the window area, and - on both sides of the wardrobe or mirror.

Remember! When creating vertical stripes from embossed wallpaper, it is advisable not to use materials in overly bright colors. The texture itself will attract attention, and when combined with a bright color scheme, such a composition will spoil the appearance of the room.

Creating accents

In order to highlight the main area by using two types of wallpaper in one room, it is enough choose a material that will stand out from the rest of the walls.

When decorating a room with wallpaper in delicate shades, dark and contrasting materials are used for these purposes (embossed or vinyl will also suit you), and in the case of decorating a dark interior, you can create an accent using light tones.

Advice: You can also hang eye-catching wallpaper on two walls or extend the composition to the ceiling. Since such an area will immediately catch your eye upon entering the room, decorate it in accordance with the color features and general style of the interior.

Another way to create an accent is to combine another type. They can be glued in a niche, placed on the entire wall, or small canvases with realistic drawings can be selected to highlight individual parts of the walls. It is desirable that the color scheme of the photo wallpaper matches the other finishing materials, and , and other accessories were harmonious.

If you like bold and bright ideas, you can implement the patchwork technique (patchwork combination). But, since small fragments of wallpaper of different types can be perceived as inharmonious, the process of selecting such materials should be approached extremely carefully.

Think about how hide joints and create a composition without significant contradictions. For example, use with shades from the same palette, or try to distract attention from their differences with wallpaper tape intended for seams.

Combinations of liquid wallpaper

Combining liquid wallpaper can be classified as a separate category, since the special composition of such materials allows you to implement any theme in space without resorting to traditional methods of combination. Such wallpapers can be combined based on their color differences and texture features, and the boundaries between different wallpapers can be created in any order.

The combination of liquid wallpaper with other types of wallpaper products is extremely rare: usually harmonious combinations involve use of this type of materials. This is often the case combination is realized in the form of mosaics and volumetric fragments.

You can combine liquid wallpaper in the form of regular stripes or apply them to different walls, depending on the lighting or layout. , or you can create unusual drawings by first creating a sketch on the wall itself using a regular pencil.

Advice: You can use it to create decorative inserts in classic and simple interiors, which will significantly save your money. When decorating such panels using frames or moldings, you can create a stylish and effective composition.

Creative people can combine liquid wallpaper of bright colors in a patchwork style, but such a procedure requires great care, since the applied layers of wallpaper must match each other, and the boundaries between shades must be made perfectly even and proportional.

The main step to the successful implementation of any idea is the right choice of materials and their shades.

The combination of colors can be checked while in the store itself, but the harmonious combination of textures and different types of coatings themselves will have to be judged based on your own experience or the opinions of experts.

If you are not sure that your idea will actually be stylish and effective, look for similar designs.

Combined wallpaper for the living room is an original solution that is relevant this year. You can choose the texture and color scheme yourself, using ready-made options, or entrust the design of the apartment to a professional.

You can view combinations of canvases on manufacturers’ websites or in construction store catalogs. This gluing method will create a unique interior.

Basic rules for combining

Designers usually insist on a combination of wallpapers. This allows you to give the room an original look, choose the right different textures, shades and patterns.

This finishing method has advantages:

  • smoothing out the disadvantages and emphasizing the advantages of the hall;
  • camouflage of a specific layout;
  • delineation of areas for entertainment and recreation.

When choosing canvases, take into account the height of the ceiling, the location of windows and doors, the presence of niches and the degree of lighting.

After viewing photographs of finished interiors, you can choose the appropriate option. It is also worth considering the area of the room and the height of the ceiling. Light wall colors are a good solution for a small, ill-planned room, as they visually expand the space.

You should not place the main emphasis on the wallpaper. This design looks boring. And the combination of bright textured walls and original furniture seems unnecessary. The canvas should ideally be in harmony with the decor, creating comfort and not attracting maximum attention.

The classic option is pastel-colored wallpaper. For such a room you will need interesting furniture so that the interior does not become ordinary. If you combine two or three types of pastel-colored wallpaper in a room and place bright accents, you will be able to create an interesting and unobtrusive design.

Paired canvases should be connected according to texture or appearance. Walls with a similar pattern or the same background look harmonious in the room. Contrasting shades emphasize activity and uniqueness. The combination of photocells with a single-color coating is also relevant.

Selection of wallpaper by color and pattern

When choosing the shade of the walls, they start from the existing furniture and other decor (curtains, bedspreads, paintings). The color of the rolls should match the decor or be a little lighter.

Too bright colors or variegated patterns predispose to depression.

When purchasing wallpaper yourself, you should remember the batch number. It is better to buy rolls from one manufacturer. This fabric will have an equal thickness, so the joints and seams will be invisible.

How to combine colors correctly:

  • Red or purple looks good with silver, emerald, blue, coffee and light brown. But you shouldn’t combine it with golden, yellow, orange and purple. It looks tacky.
  • Pink goes with dark red and silver gray. You can add a little brown. Celadon, electric blue and bright red are prohibited.
  • Orange can be combined with white, beige and light green. These combinations are suitable for a room with lilac or violet decor.
  • Brown is combined with gold or bright blue.
  • Yellow harmonizes with wooden furniture and green shades of the interior.

If the hall is rectangular, you can visually expand the area with a horizontal combination of ornaments. Vertical combination allows you to “stretch out” a living room with a low ceiling.

Pastel shades with abstract or geometric patterns look great in small rooms. A large pattern reduces space.

A covering reminiscent of wood or bamboo can be combined with a floral print, narrow stripes with abstraction or a cage.

Popular combination methods

You can combine wallpaper to create an interesting room design in an apartment in different ways. They select canvases based on similar or contrasting shades, and combine different pasting methods to visually expand the room or improve its shape.

If you need to highlight separate zones in the hall, then wallpaper 2 shades darker would be suitable for relaxation, and lighter than the base ones for eating.

By contrasting colors

Shades that are not next to each other on the color wheel, but on the opposite side, are called complementary or contrasting. These are combinations of blue and orange, green and red, purple and light yellow.

Combining such aggressive tones is acceptable when decorating a living room for young people. But it is important not to overdo it, since an unsuccessful combination depresses the psyche and causes pain in the eyes.

Bright and pastel shades look good on plasterboard or frame partitions in studio apartments, in the living room combined with the kitchen.

You need to experiment carefully, or better yet, entrust the interior to a designer. Otherwise, you can get the wrong result for a lot of money.

  • Inserts of contrasting colors. If the living room is decorated in a classic style, they are decorated with frames. In modern times, they are combined into an avant-garde panel or painting.
  • Wall highlights. The area on which the emphasis is placed is covered with a canvas of a complementary color. This design visually aligns the shape of the living room and masks the existing shortcomings of standard-plan apartments. This technique is recommended for a small or rectangular room.

Since 2010 I have been engaged in interior design and architectural design.

Usually, using the right combination of shades and textures, it is possible to create the desired design; dismantling is an extreme and expensive measure.

The color of wallpaper in building materials stores is different, and the roll you like may look slightly different in the room. This is taken into account when purchasing.

Hello! I continue the series of articles that were inspired by watching advertisements for the sale of real estate on Avito when I was choosing a new apartment for us. In them, I analyze typical mistakes in decorating that I encountered in literally every second apartment. I already wrote about, now it’s time for wallpaper, namely about combining different wallpapers in one room. And it looks like today there will be a mega post, because there is not just a lot of information, but a lot.

Lyrical introduction or where the legs of a problem grow

First of all, I want to note that, judging by what I saw, combining wallpaper is actually a very popular technique in Izhevsk. And I think throughout the post-Soviet space things are exactly the same. I saved literally 80% of these photos because that's how many people use this method incorrectly. Something from the series: I saw this in “The Housing Question.” Then I looked at pictures on the Internet and did everything exactly the same. In fact, it’s far from exactly the same, and more often than not, quite the opposite.

I tried to figure out where the legs grow from. As usual, I googled the query “how to properly combine wallpaper with each other in one room” (judging by statistics, similar queries in different versions receive more than 10 thousand people monthly (!!!) and looked at the first five sites in the search results. It’s just that usually no one looks further 🙂 And then a lot of things fell into place for me.

All articles were written by copywriters who are not at all interested in modern design and decoration, some sites of construction offices, repair companies. All the information is rotten and of little use, and at times simply harmful.

Who are these designers? Where do they advise this? In fact, modern decoration allows for both. But in terms of the number of interiors, painted plain walls or plain wallpaper, rather than combinations, still lead by a large margin.

The biggest difficulty is to understand that the combination must pursue some goal, practically program a person, force him to look at the point you need, and not just so as not to be bored. This is not enough. If this is the goal, then it is almost guaranteed that it will turn out to be nonsense.

And now enough of the lyrics, it’s time to sort through the archive of photographs that I saved and show, using their example, typical types of wallpaper mix and the most common mistakes. Sit back, read, watch carefully and learn from the mistakes of others.

Vertical arrangement of different wallpapers

This is the most common method at this time. To greatly generalize, you can combine:

  • with a pattern and plain,
  • two types with different patterns

The first method is the most common. Programs about renovation and design have firmly instilled the concept of accent wall and zoning into the everyday life of our citizens. But they never explained which wall to choose as an accent wall and on what grounds, by what criteria. It is on this wall that wallpaper with a pattern is glued, and on the rest - plain wallpaper.

The main criterion by which you can determine whether it is worth focusing on it is its location. There must be a sufficient distance that provides a good view. For example, in Khrushchev’s kitchen, in principle, there is no place for this.

Usually they accentuate the wall against which the eye rests when entering the room. Or it can be located behind some functional area, a group of furniture, for example, at a dining table, a sofa with an armchair, a workplace, which will stand out even more against the background of suitable wallpaper.

Our parents determined it almost unmistakably when hanging the carpet. Just imagine, instead of a roll of wallpaper, you have a chic antique Uzbek kilim. What wall would you hang it on? Will it be clearly visible from different vantage points, will there be something competing with it for attention?

Example No. 1

In this accent living room (with flowers), it was worth making one wall behind the upholstered furniture, and the rest of the walls in a single color (and better in the background color of the flowers). As a result, it is not clear what was singled out: either the wall behind the TV, or the end of the room with a window... What was the idea? There is no idea, everything looks as if they took a couple of rolls left over from the last renovation, since the main ones were not enough.

Badly

Example No. 2

Then the same error, what's the idea? The “carpet” in this case should hang over the sofa. It seems that the accent wall was chosen by tossing a coin, just out of curiosity. It is unclear why the person sitting on this sofa is asked to look at the left wall. And the colors themselves are well chosen.

Badly

Example No. 3

In the following example, I like the color choice for the main wallpaper and the choice of the accent wall. Enough viewing distance to appreciate the view as a whole. But it is completely unclear why the active wallpaper went further and was located above the doorway. Because of this, the whole point of the accent wall was lost. If zoning was meant (corridor and living room), then why were they combined at all? Same mistake - no idea. Now it just seems that the hallway and the ball room have different decorations, the partition was taken down and everything was left as it was.

Badly

This leads to another mandatory condition.

It is necessary to correctly determine the boundaries of the accent wall. This is the entire wall, from corner to corner, and not some separate piece behind it and not several walls at the same time.

Example No. 4

The joints of combined wallpaper should be in the corners and not in the middle of the wall. Firstly, such a joint almost always looks unaesthetic or it seems that there is simply not enough wallpaper.

No idea, sloppy joint.

Badly

Example No. 5

Why bother and glue it to the wall or is it really not enough?

Badly

Example No. 6

In the next photo, without a doubt, the wallpaper was deliberately glued only in the center. This is a typical example of meaningless zoning, when renovations are made without understanding the future of the interior as a whole. I am 99% sure that there will be a sofa or TV along this wall.

This arrangement is a claim to symmetry, which strictly limits the arrangement of furniture. Having placed the sofa in the center of this composition, you will no longer be able to move it a little to the left or right without re-sticking the wallpaper. Well, that is. You can move it, but you are guaranteed nonsense. Examples of the consequences of such pasting will be below.

Badly

Example No. 7

Corridor in the same apartment. Claims for symmetry, but without the slightest understanding of how terrible this is in combination with asymmetrical switches. What prevented you from choosing other wallpapers, where they would not be so noticeable, and covering this entire wall with them? After all, the wall itself is simply ideal for an accent. Unsuccessful wallpaper, pasting with stubs.

Badly

Example No. 8

Another arrangement of wallpaper with a stub above the sofa, which visually separates the sofa and the chair from each other. What's the idea? Focus on the entire wall, not just a piece of it, except if there are any structural protrusions there.

Badly

Example No. 9

The natural result of the bits on the wall. The sofa was moved, but the wallpaper remained.

Badly

Example No. 10

Something went wrong... Due to the addition to the family, a rearrangement had to be made. It is now impossible to grasp the initial idea.

Badly

Example No. 11

It is impossible to predict in advance exactly down to the centimeter how you will arrange your furniture if the interior is formed spontaneously. At a minimum, a strip of wallpaper is also needed, but it would be better to continue to the end of the wall so that the chairs and table look like a single group.

By the way, it’s cool, I’ve never seen a table like this on one leg for sale.

Badly

The patchwork technique itself is not so bad, but not in this form, of course.

Badly

Example No. 13

The idea “so as not to be boring” has ruined more than one interior. In the nursery in the next photo, the parents bought the entire set of wallpaper collection at once: with a pattern, green and orange. And they used everything in one room at once. The wall for accent wallpaper with a pattern, in my opinion, was chosen well. But! What are the opposite stripes for? Why bright orange behind the curtains, because the window itself is a self-sufficient architectural accent.

As a result, the gaze does not focus on one thing, it wanders chaotically, because everything is competing with each other for attention. Too many areas of active colors, the accent wall got lost. Not complied with. It would be much better to combine, instead of orange and green “companions,” take a neutral beige, which serves as the background for the picture.

Badly

Example No. 14

In general, companion wallpapers are evil. This is such an invisible trap, it seems that if some designers at the factory made them compatible, then there can be no mistake. In fact, as it may, almost all examples of using these pairs are extremely unsuccessful.

For example, let's look at the combination of wallpaper in the next room. It is absolutely certain that these are companions. I have no questions about the compatibility of colors and patterns, everything is really good. But! Both types of wallpaper have a very active pattern, i.e. It is completely unclear which of them is the main one and which is the additional one.

What would be good when combining patterns of sofa cushions does not work at all with wallpaper. Looking at this interior, the idea again is completely unclear, which wall is the accent wall? Left, right, end? What are the different wallpapers used for? Why do different wallpapers have equal surface areas?

As usual, the result of a meaningless, thoughtless combination is a complete mess.

The situation is aggravated by the incorrect scale of the floral pattern; the already low ceilings seem lower than they actually are. An extremely bad choice. If you missed the article on how to choose, be sure to read it.

Everything is bad

Example No. 15

In the bedroom, the ideal place for an accent is on the wall behind the head of the bed. Remember the carpet? That's where it should have been hung. Rarely are any other options possible: the walls are of some irregular geometry, have protrusions, the bed is in a niche, etc.

In this bedroom, the owners again fell into the trap of companions, bought a pair with patterns of the same activity and it was unclear what they wanted to highlight. The wall behind the bed? Then why did they seize the window? A wall with a TV? This wall is not suitable for an accent wall.

And again the terrible scale of the colors, hiding the height of the ceilings. The link to the article about this error was just above.

Badly

Example No. 16

In order to clearly define the accent wall and make sense in zoning with wallpaper, the designs should be different in activity (in attracting attention)

Badly

Example No. 17

You should not use three types of wallpaper, as in the children's room in example No. 13, there is too much of everything. Zones, zones, zones, breaking up an already small space into pieces... It was worth making only one wall (either behind the bed or opposite the entrance at the table) as an accent wall. Three types are too much. And if there were 4 types of companions in the collection, would you buy them all according to the number of walls?

Badly

Horizontal arrangement of different wallpapers

Example No. 18

Today, this method is simply morally outdated - this is hello from the first European-quality renovations of the nineties. Then the first companions and paper borders appeared on sale. The squeak of fashion. But today there are simply no good modern examples of such a combination of wallpaper. I named it so that the list is complete, for information. You'll just know it's there, but keep in mind that it's best not to use it for the next 50 years.

The horizontal line cuts the wall into two parts and hides the height of the ceiling.

Badly

Combining photo wallpaper with wallpaper

The combination of wallpaper with photo wallpaper deserves special attention. I noticed that, at first glance, things are a little better with them, at least the choice of wall is almost always successful. But there are still some nuances.

Example No. 19

I like the choice for an accent wall: the correct location at the end of the room, near the bed, in the room there is enough distance to appreciate the image as a whole, and not look at it point-blank. I like the large size, wall to wall, joints in the corners. It's all wonderful and well done. But the very combination of photo wallpaper and pattern on the remaining walls looks bad. It would be much better if the second wallpaper was paintable or smooth, plain white or sand color.

Badly

Example No. 20

Exactly the same story. The right accent wall, the right size, but completely incompatible with the main wallpaper. Moreover, the main ones are also quite interesting and not bad in themselves. They just shouldn't be together. Here we need plain ones.

Badly

Example No. 21

Should I comment anything on this photo? It seems to me that you can see everything yourself: the collision of photo wallpaper on the adjacent wall (what prevented you from trimming???), the combination with striped ones (you need plain ones), and a closet that “allows you to enjoy” the views of the city at night.

Everything is very bad

By and large, to summarize, we can distinguish 3 main mistakes:

  1. lack of idea and meaning in combining wallpaper, acting like a fool;
  2. wrong choice of accent wall;
  3. the use of wallpaper does not cover the entire area of the wall, the joints are not in the corners.

From here follow 5 simple rules, and if you take them into account, I think that you can easily combine beautiful wallpaper in your room. Learn from other people's mistakes, not your own!

  1. Accent wallpaper is placed on the view wall, there should be good viewing points, the minimum distance from the viewing point is 3-4 meters, or better yet more.
  2. Never use any ready-made companions if they both have an active pattern.
  3. The best combination for photo wallpapers and others with an active dynamic pattern is plain wallpaper.
  4. Glue accent wallpaper on the entire wall, from corner to corner or other architectural elements (edges of a niche, ledge, etc.), then you don’t have to think about how to design the joint.
  5. Think about why you want to draw the attention of those present to this wall, think over the idea.

Examples of the ideal use of combining wallpaper in room decoration

The vast majority of examples are a combination of an active pattern with plain walls (plain wallpaper, paintable wallpaper or simply painted walls). If you are not mentally prepared for most of the monochromatic walls in the room, then it is better to think 10 more times about whether you need an accent wall in the interior at all.

A thoughtful, beautiful interior of a room is a combination of all its components: walls, ceiling, floor, furniture. Both different textures and colors should be combined.

The most popular wall decoration is wallpapering them.

The modern construction market is filled with a wide variety of this material.

But the more types of wallpaper are presented in the store, the more difficult it is to make a choice.

Today we’ll talk about some basic principles for selecting wallpaper and combining several types of wallpaper in one room.

Manufacturers produce the material in collections that feature wallpaper companions. As a rule, they are united by texture and a certain color scheme. Combined wallpapers from one collection can be plain (two, three or more colors), striped or patterned, where all the same colors are present.

In the catalogs, in addition to the samples themselves, you can see examples of combining wallpaper in various rooms in the form of photographs of interiors. This makes the choice somewhat easier.

But the photographs, as a rule, always show rooms of impressive size, so be careful and careful when purchasing the samples you like.

How to combine wallpaper correctly?

To achieve the most interesting interior design you need to know some rules:

  • vertical stripes visually raise the ceiling;
  • horizontal stripes “expand” the space, but “lower” the ceiling;
  • wallpaper with a large pattern is suitable for large rooms, for example, a living room; in a small room (kitchen or hallway) they will lead to the opposite effect - they will “reduce” the space;
  • small pattern - on the contrary, it is suitable for small rooms; in a room with a large wall area it will get lost;
  • for small rooms and rooms with insufficient lighting, choose wallpaper in light shades, which in turn should be lighter than the floor;
  • When covering walls with wallpaper from different collections, take into account their thickness (it should be the same, since the sheets are glued end-to-end);
  • When choosing two wallpaper colors for one room, make sure they are compatible (use the color wheel).

When in doubt, seek help from professional interior designers. If you have skills in working in 3D programs, then build a model of the room in which you are going to do repairs and wallpaper, and experiment with different materials and color compositions.

Options for covering walls with different wallpapers

Dividing the room into zones

Using wallpaper of different colors or patterns, you can divide the room into two or more zones.

For example, highlight a recreation area, work or play area in a children's room. It is beneficial to highlight the most significant part of the living space.

One stripe, two stripes

You can cover the walls with two types of wallpaper, alternating the canvases with each other. The stripes can be in the same color scheme and differ only in pattern, or create a contrasting alternation of light and dark inserts.

Horizontally pasted striped wallpapers are becoming increasingly common in modern interiors; they create dynamics in the room. But don’t get carried away with them, use them fragmentarily, combining them with plain canvases. Keep in mind the visual effect of horizontal stripes: expanding space but lowering ceilings.

Classic is always in fashion

Fans of classic interiors can safely use horizontal division of walls with two types of wallpaper using a border: paper, polyurethane or wood.

If the ceilings in the room are not high enough, then wallpaper of darker shades should be glued from below, and light ones - from above. This will visually stretch the room. For rooms with high ceilings, the exact opposite option is suitable.

Niche design

You can decorate niches or protruding parts of plasterboard structures with wallpaper that differs from the color of the main walls of the room.

Using wallpaper of different colors and textures, you can advantageously emphasize the design solution.

Smooth flow

An interesting solution is to wallpaper part of the wall and ceiling, when the strip seems to flow from one surface to another. This method is used to emphasize any part of the room. So in the bedroom you can select the place where the bed should be installed.

This unusual design solution breaks the geometry of space and is to the taste of many.

Pasting walls and ceilings

It is believed that wallpapering ceilings is no longer fashionable. However, you can use “liquid wallpaper”. Using this material, you can decorate both walls and ceilings by choosing compositions of colors that harmonize with each other.

patchwork quilt

Patchwork sewing in the “patchwork” style can be imitated on the walls by pasting them with fragments of wallpaper with different patterns. The first rule is the compatibility of paintings, the second is accuracy and precision. This type of work must be done by qualified craftsmen, but the results are worth it.

Recently, you can find wallpaper on sale that already imitates a patchwork quilt, but the squares on them are smaller. By creating a composition yourself, you can calculate the report required for your room and select suitable rolls of wallpaper.

From simple to complex

It would seem that there is nothing difficult in hanging wallpaper, even if it is of two colors. However, using ordinary wallpaper you can create complex compositions with smooth joints.

To do this you will need a knife with a very sharp blade. The overlapped sheets are cut according to the template, the edges are moved apart, the excess is removed and glued end-to-end again. The work is quite labor-intensive.

Aerobatics

To create individual premium interiors, architects and designers advise purchasing designer wallpaper. Or order them individually, offering your own design that is acceptable in the interior being created.

An equally interesting solution is the combination of conventional roll materials with photo wallpaper. Thus, the rooms acquire additional depth.

It is important to remember that when gluing two different types of wallpaper end-to-end, their thickness should be the same. If the selected samples differ in thickness, then the joints can be decorated with molding, as if framing the picture with a frame. This wall design can be found in classic interiors.

Experiment, look for your own image, don’t be afraid of bright or dark colors. But stick to the rules established by practice.
