Overflow connection

The overflow is a special hole on the wall of the sink, to which a corrugated pipe is connected from the wall side.   • at the final stage, a connection is made to the sewer pipe using a transition sealing coupling, since the mating parts have different diameters.

Upon completion of installation, perform an initial check of the assembled structure by filling the kitchen sink with water.

If the siphon has additional outlets for connecting household appliances, they must first be closed with special plugs!

If there are no leaks, proceed to connecting the drain hoses of the washing machine or dishwasher, after which the installation of the siphon can be considered complete.

The operation of a gravity sewer requires compliance with certain rules. When wondering how to properly install a siphon in the kitchen, you should take into account some nuances that are well known to professionals:

  • sealant (based on silicone or natural rubber, odorless or with a subtle aroma, which indicates the suitability of the sealant for work with plumbing);
  • electrical tape;
  • a regular small screwdriver;
  • adjustable wrench;
  • plastic bag, rag;
  • buckets or basins.

If you plan to dismantle an old cast iron siphon, a hammer, chisel, and chisel will come in handy.

Note! Standard sizes of sewer pipes are 32, 40, 50 mm. If you are in doubt about the choice, purchase siphons with a stepped spout end. All you have to do is try it on and, if necessary, cut off the extra steps of the part and purchase a seal. If you purchased a siphon of the wrong size, a rubber adapter will correct the situation.

Dismantling the old siphon

To install a new siphon, you will have to dismantle the old one.

  1. We turn off the main water supply valve in the apartment.
  2. We place a basin or bucket under the old siphon. The liquid remaining inside the siphon will drain into it.

  3. Take a screwdriver and unscrew the fixing bolt from the sink drain filter (counterclockwise).

To dismantle the cast iron siphon, you will have to split it with a hammer and chisel. This is quite painstaking and dangerous work. Make sure that the fragments do not injure you or penetrate into the sewer pipe. Remove all traces of old cement.

How to assemble a bottle siphon

  1. We put a ring gasket (usually made of blue rubber) onto the threaded connection of the upper collapsible part of the bottle siphon.
  2. We screw the lower part (bottom) of the siphon (threaded connection).
  3. We take the spout tube and put two plastic tightening nuts and a suitable ring gasket on it.
  4. We insert the spout tube into the upper hole of the siphon body. Tighten the plastic nut (but not too much).

  6. After this, you will need to place the rubber gasket in the bottom cover of the device and screw the latter. In the future, it will be necessary to unscrew it in order to clean everything from the debris that has accumulated there. Each time, be careful not to pinch the gasket.

What you should pay attention to during installation:

  • When assembling the device, do not use sealant. When you need to take it apart to clean it when a jam occurs, you won't be able to do it quickly. On top of that, you will have to remove the remnants of the old sealant before sealing everything back up. As a last resort, use silicone, but it’s better to just get by with the rubber gaskets that are included in the kit.
