DIY TV stand: how, where and why. Making a bedside table, all the nuances to do it yourself How to make a round bedside table

Compact and almost invisible, the bedside table plays a very important role. It is convenient to place a lamp on it for reading or knitting before bed, put your phone and set an alarm clock. Inside small drawers and open niches it is convenient to store all the little things for a comfortable stay: favorite books and glasses, chargers for laptops and tablets, care and hygiene items. Making a bedside table with your own hands is not difficult. As a rule, such furnishings have a simple design and are not difficult to assemble.

Ideas on how and from what you can make a bedside table yourself

Purchasing separate materials to make a bedside table with your own hands is unlikely to be a good idea. The cost for it is small. Therefore, they usually “figure out” from the leftovers.

There are incredibly many design options for bedside tables:

  • It can be an open console design, a lightweight shelving unit or a full-fledged chest of drawers.
  • Be made from leftover laminate, plywood, pallets, timber, MDF, solid wood and, of course, laminated chipboard.

You can go through models and photos of different ideas endlessly. Both by modular collections of bedrooms from famous manufacturers, and simply by searching using Google and Yandex images.

But in the end, execution will depend only on the desire to do something and the remaining materials available.

An example of how you can make a bedside table with your own hands, drawings and diagrams

Let's look at a typical model of do-it-yourself bedside furniture. The drawing and diagram indicating the overall dimensions will look like this.

Making a bedside table from laminated chipboard of this type is not profitable separately. It’s more economical to make two of them at once or, for example, together with . It will cost much less than if you buy it ready-made.

The model is easy to assemble and can easily be made by a beginner. In fact, you will need to assemble the cabinet body itself and the drawer frame. Having previously drilled several holes for confirmations.

DIY bedside table, calculation of details and cutting map

The details indicating the sides for edging are most clearly written out in an Excel table. In fact, three types of sheet materials will be used - chipboard, fiberboard and MDF for the drawer facade. However, in order to save money, it can also be made from laminated chipboard.

If you lay out the details of the bedside table on a whole sheet, you can see that not much material will be left.

That is why I wrote above that making one copy is extremely unprofitable if there are no leftovers. After all, you will have to buy a whole sheet of chipboard.

Drilling parts and assembling the bedside table

After the parts have been sawed and all visible ends are covered with an edge, you can move on to the next stage. Drill the blanks for assembly onto the confirmations.

I wrote in more detail about the nuances of drilling and subsequent assembly in the article on manufacturing. In fact, the products are similar in design. Therefore, I will not repeat myself. I will give only an additional drawing of a bedside table in three dimensions.

What you need to make your own bedside table

In fact, it all depends on which stages of work you do yourself and which you delegate to the relevant companies.

For example, cutting and edging of parts can be ordered in the same place where laminated chipboard is purchased. Or you can do it yourself. In this case, you will need a jigsaw for cutting, a grinder for smoothing the ends for gluing the edges, and an iron. As well as small improvised items:

  • tape measure, pencil/marker square for measuring workpieces and drawing parts;
  • sandpaper, shoemaker's and stationery knife for cutting and sanding the edges after gluing the melamine edge with an iron.

For assembly you will need Phillips and hex screwdrivers (it’s convenient to use a ratchet) and a screwdriver.

In addition to the tools and improvised means, which, in principle, any craftsman has in stock, you will need to purchase fittings and components for assembly. All this is presented in tabular form of the estimate.

Just create a similar Excel form for yourself, enter formulas and prices to calculate the final figure for upcoming expenses. I am sure that if you make a bedside table complete with a more significant item and put the details on the rest, the savings will be significant and will completely satisfy you. Good luck!

Cabinet, i.e. a rigid, durable structure capable of bearing loads as a single unit is the main component of cabinet furniture. Sometimes it transforms and hides, but it is always there. Incl. and in the form of an independent product - a bedside table - suitable for a variety of uses in the home. In this form, it does not stand out in the interior, and in utility rooms its appearance can be whatever it came from, as long as it is durable. Therefore, it is from the bedside table that a novice amateur furniture maker needs to approach cabinets, beds, chests of drawers, furniture sets and walls.

The bedside table, with all the variety of design and construction, takes place, in general, in the following forms, see figure:

Bedside cabinet, pos. 1. Without painstaking finishing it is unsightly, but durable, because... assembled on a frame. It allows, on the one hand, to do without cladding, which is important for balcony bedside tables, or to make it easily removable, which is no less important for a bathroom bedside table. On the other hand, you can put a durable tabletop on the frame, which will come in handy in a garage, shed or workshop.

Chest of drawers, pos. 2, lives mainly in kitchens, children's rooms and dressing rooms: you can put a lot of all sorts of things in it, and, after removing the drawers, it is easy to clean or repair. This is already a product of a panel structure with walls and shelves that make up a single power circuit. For the usual dimensions of a chest of drawers, see fig. on right.

Volumetric cabinets-racks, pos. 3, and cabinets, pos. 4, more suitable for the living room, bedroom, hallway, study or shared children's room. The design is also panel board.

Extremely simplified bedside table, pos. 5, It can be a bedside table, but most often it complements a coffee table in a soft corner of the living room.

Combination nightstands are more common for bedsides. For example, a product at pos. 6 below there is a cabinet, above it there is a chest of drawers with 1 drawer, and above there is a rack with 1 semi-closed and 1 open shelf. Due to their versatility, combined cabinets are the most commonly used.

How are cabinets made?

Factory-made bedside tables are assembled, as a rule, using furniture self-tapping screws and/or eccentric connectors. They are collected either in trade organizations before sale, or by home buyers themselves. With a different technological cycle, the production of such a simple product as a bedside table will be unprofitable. But when making a cabinet for yourself, it is better to use more labor-intensive, but cheap, reliable and durable wood-to-wood connections; at least for the load-bearing parts.

To make a cabinet with your own hands, you need, firstly, to master 2 types of furniture joints: tongue-and-groove (mortise-tongue, tongue-and-groove joint) and dowel joints. For example, the frame of a cabinet, see fig. on the right, it is assembled from 4 lower drawers, 4 combat (vertical) drawers and also 4 upper drawers. The upper and lower tsars can be front/back and side, i.e. different.

The drawers forming the frame are connected by tongue-and-groove joints; the shelves are laid on support bars, also embedded in the combat drawers on tenons in the grooves. Properly made with wedging, tongue-and-groove joints in such a small object as a bedside table will not require the cost of glue.

The cabinets of the panel structure (all except item 1) are assembled on dowels with gluing. The supports for the shelves are also made with dowels. Only drawer guides are secured with metal hardware.

To make a drawer for a bedside table or cabinet, you will have to master a type of tongue-and-groove joint - a box joint. The general sequence of its working operations is shown in the figure:

Well, a more complete picture will be given by a selection of videos:

Video: box joint entirely by hand using a regular jigsaw

Video: Box connection using an electrified tool

Video: dovetail connection on a regular circular saw

The last video may be useful to those who, over time, having improved their carpentry skills, decide to work to order. Furniture assembled using dovetails is highly valued by connoisseurs, but on condition: the tails must be handmade, not milled on an automatic machine. And the method shown there gives tails that are neat, but completely artisanal in appearance. In addition, if you know how to connect parts using a dovetail, you can try yourself in an equally profitable field - restoration of old furniture.

Straight tongue-and-groove joints are usually assembled using glue, but you can do it differently. To do this, vertical blind holes are drilled in the corners of the drawer box (4 at the top and 4 at the bottom, 8 in total) with a depth of 2-4 tenons and a diameter of 2.5-3 mm. Pins made of bamboo or beech are driven tightly into the holes. The box is nailed down after fitting the parts and finishing the assembly.

Bedside drawer

The structure of a furniture drawer is shown in Fig. on right. The bottom is made of plywood 3-5 mm thick, depending on the desired strength. Please note: the drawer front is not included in its power circuit, it is an overhead part. If you do it differently, pushing/pulling the drawer in will eventually warp or even fall apart. The drawers are made from boards with a thickness of 12 mm or plywood from 6 mm. The box is assembled using a box connection.

It is advisable to use hard and durable wood for the skull blocks: oak, birch. However, if you have a wood router, you can install the bottom easier and stronger: select a groove in the drawers below along the contour and insert the bottom into it during assembly. The distance of the lower edge of the groove from the bottom of the frame is from 3 mm for hard, fine-grained industrial wood and not less than the thickness of the drawer for solid softwood; groove depth - from 4 mm, but not more than 1/2 the thickness of the drawer.

The drawer fronts are internal, pos. And next. Fig., or external, pos. B. Internal facades are more elegant, but require more precise fitting of parts. Mechanically, there is no significant difference between them.

Facades and homemade guides for furniture drawers

Wooden guides for drawers are made on the bottom rail, pos. 1, on the side rail, pos. 2, and on the fold of the quarter rail, pos. 3. Installing drawers on the bottom rail is technologically simple and provides an acceptable width of the drawer, but “eats up” a lot of space in height; The drawer on the bottom slats can jam when it is brand new and neatly made. In general, the worst way.

Fitting on the middle rail requires milling grooves in the side frames, but it provides the greatest width and depth of the drawers, because 3-4 mm of gaps both below and on the sides will be sufficient. If the slats are oak and the drawers are pine or plywood, then the drawers on the middle slats almost never jam when extended 2/3-3/4.

The quarter rail can be planed by hand with special planes: a chisel and a rebate, see figure, therefore, in the old days, placing handicraft furniture drawers in the quarter rebate was widespread. When pulled out no more than 2/3, the drawer slides in a quarter of the way almost without jamming, but a lot of space in the design of the cabinet is wasted.

About the full stem guides

If you decide to invest in modern full-extension slides for the drawers of your cabinet, then consider the following:

  • Look first not at the brand, but at the complete fasteners. Responsible and conscientious manufacturers provide hardware with shaped heads, and a key to them, so that no one breaks in with a “homemade” one.
  • The assembly instructions must contain exact dimensions for fastenings, a full description of technical operations with drilling depth and requirements for the base (wood - what kind?, laminate, MDF).
  • It is better to take inexpensive guides with propylene rollers. They run smoothly and are quiet, but are not as strong or durable as ballpoint ones. However, this is not important for a nightstand, unless you are storing gold bars in it.
  • Full extension guides can be bottom or side. For a bedside table, the lower ones are better; the drawers can be made wider. Side guides require technical clearances on the sides of 30 mm, which, with an overall width of the cabinet of 400 mm, reduces the internal width of the drawer to 250-280 mm. And the bottom guides have enough side clearances of 6-16 mm.

What are the cabinets made of?

A wooden bedside table can be made from any wood suitable for furniture, e.g. the same as for a stool or table, as well as from plywood, laminate, MDF. The thickness of the boards is 12-40 mm, depending on the design. For dowels, skull blocks, wooden guides and drawers of the cabinet frame, it is still better to take solid, dense wood - oak, beech, birch; in the latter case also on the tabletop, because They work on such bedside tables and load them with weights.

The back side of panel bedside tables is most often covered with thin, 4-6 mm, laminated chipboard, pinned with a furniture stapler. In cheap furniture, drawer bottoms are also made from laminated chipboard, but this is not necessary for yourself: it sags, crawls out of the grooves, or breaks off from the “shards.”

The doors of bedside tables are most often hung on hidden adjustable furniture hinges, but under them you need to use a milling cutter to select holes in boards from 20 mm thick. If it is not possible or desirable to install hidden hinges, then the doors are hung on piano hinges. Cabinet doors with card hinges soon warp due to the small size of the hinges and the shallow drilling depth for fasteners.

About finishing

A bedside table is not a significant piece of furniture, so there is no point in spending money on expensive decoration. When finished, planed and sanded to a smooth finish, the cabinet for the living room is best covered with self-adhesive wood-like material and coated twice with acrylic varnish. Then even an experienced cabinetmaker will not immediately distinguish it from the “real” one with veneer, and the film under the acrylic in direct light will last at least 10 years.

Where's the nightstand?

Hallway

This is the first room where a homemade cabinet, as they say, is just asking for it. They don’t pay much attention to the furniture in the hallway, but a shoe cabinet is very necessary here: an average family of 4 people now has about 20 pairs of shoes, see fig. The old Soviet shoe rack is no longer enough here.

Shoe cabinets are on sale in a wide range, but the prices encourage non-standards, and looking at the design of the hinges, it seems that they were copied from the rotation units of solar panels of spacecraft. Meanwhile, a shoe cabinet can be made much simpler and no worse: on the left in Fig. Below, see the drawing, and on the right in the same place - the design of the bedside table-pouf for it, in which accessories for shoe care are stored.

There is not enough shoe storage in the hallway; you also need a bedside table for gloves, hats, handbags, etc. little things. It should be higher than usual so that you can look in the mirror while standing. For the dimensions and general appearance of a bedside table in a general-purpose hallway, see Fig. on the right, but it’s better to make it not on legs, but on a skirt made of 20-30 mm boards, so that debris does not accumulate under it.

Bedroom

The choice of bedside table for a bedroom set is determined by the habits and character of the owner. Regular bedside table, pos. 1 and 2 on the next. rice. combined: upper open shelf for alarm clock, phone, glasses; the middle one is for reading at night, and in closed compartments anything is stored: from books “for later” and the next change of bed linen to intimate accessories for lovers of “strawberries and cream”.

Lovers of long and meaningful reading before bed prefer cabinets, racks, pos. 3. This habit, by the way, greatly develops mental abilities and helps to maintain clarity of thought until old age: what you read before bedtime, unless it is meaningless reading, is absorbed by the brain especially deeply and clearly during sleep.

Shelves and racks appeal to fans of sophisticated design, pos. 4, but the sophistication of a bedside table can also be functional. How do you like the bedside table, pos. 5? Half a table transformation mechanism and a little imagination.

In general, the bedside table is a grateful object for creative ingenuity. To begin with, we give diagrams of two, see Fig. In the bedside table on the left, additional linings are used on the fronts, which allows you to achieve an elegant design using simple means. And the bedside table on the right consists of only 4 simple-shaped parts.

Balcony

The glazed balcony is a utility room, narrow, with an unstable microclimate. Therefore, the bedside table for the balcony is made on a frame, see fig. This allows, firstly, to do without covering the cabinet and install it without gaps in which condensation will accumulate. Secondly, the increased strength of the cabinet will allow you to work on it or, say, move a refrigerator to the balcony, which will provide great energy savings. And so that small objects do not get lost, the tabletop is upholstered along the contour with a furniture fillet or plinth.

Living room

Side table in the living room, except for the coffee table, pos. 1 in Fig., according to modern and well-founded trends in interior design, is made long and low. The design is chosen based on the design style of the room, pos. 2-4. But a TV stand with the same general design must satisfy specific requirements.

Side tables for the living room

The efficiency of acoustic systems (AS) is related to the wavelength of sound, which in the bass (bass, low frequencies) is meters and tens of meters. Speaker designers are trying in every possible way to circumvent these restrictions, and they are not short of success. But still, the size and volume of modern flat-panel TVs do not allow them to be equipped with built-in acoustics that satisfactorily reproduce low frequencies. And here a TV stand can come to the rescue: it will “catch” the low-frequency vibrations of the TV and transmit them into the air, adding richness to the sound. Only if the TV is not the “bubble” of previous generations: a heavy tube suspended in it will extinguish them.

The TV stand must, firstly, have an open resonator tuned to approximately 80-100 Hz. A niche for a player measuring about 800x400x200 mm is just right. Secondly, you can also add “juice” to the sound if the TV is powered by small-sized external speakers, placing them in niches with a volume of 20 liters or more with a gap of 4-8 cm on the sides and top; the effect of “saturation” of sound from closed-type speakers in niches is well known to music lovers. The “ideal” design of a TV stand is shown in Fig. on the right, and drawings of 2 suitable ones, for external acoustics and without it, in Fig. below.

But that is not all. The box of the bedside table, its back wall and the bottoms of the resonating cavities must be made of boards from 30 mm, and intermediate parts from boards from 20 mm. And that's not all: the material (spruce, pine, larch, hemlock, laminate, MDF) must have its own mechanical quality factor in the range of 0.7-1.2. However, there is no need to look for a sound measuring laboratory; just tap the workpieces with your knuckles: the sound should be clear, but short and dry, without ringing. A “cotton” board will absorb any vibrations, and a ringing board will “catch” unnecessary ones, which will give unpleasant overtones. And that’s all for sure, the glue on which the cabinet is assembled should produce a seam that retains its plasticity for years; PVA is best.

Bathroom

It is impossible to give any general dimensions of a bathroom cabinet, because... it will contain a sink with a siphon, of which there are countless different ones on the market, and the discharge into the sewer bed can be arranged in any way. But the general principles for designing bedside tables for wet rooms are quite clear:

  1. The bathroom cabinet must be raised above the floor, otherwise unsanitary conditions are inevitable, on the left in Fig.
  2. Therefore, it is attached to the wall, right there.
  3. Fasteners to provide access to plumbing fixtures must be detachable: stainless steel (worse - bronze or galvanized) self-tapping screws in propylene dowels. Metal in metal, e.g. Stainless steel bolts and the same collets will become so stuck that the cabinet will have to be broken.
  4. The vanity cabinet is made from rot-resistant wood: oak, resinous pine, larch.
  5. After the initial dry assembly and fitting of the parts, they are individually treated with an antiseptic for wood, and after 3-7 days with a water repellent, i.e. water repellent. If an inexpensive (but very good) water-polymer emulsion is used, then the treatment is carried out twice with a break of 1-3 days.

Under the aquarium

Aquarium keeping is a very useful activity in all respects. But the aquarium is subject to the square-cube law almost in its pure form: as the size of the aquarium tank increases, its volume and weight grow faster than the size of the supporting area, i.e. the load from the aquarium per unit area of the load-bearing surface increases. It is believed that the weight of an aquarium with soil, population and equipment in kg is equal to approximately 1.5 of the volume of water in it in liters. It follows that the cabinet for the aquarium must satisfy the following conditions:

  • An aquarium up to approximately 100 liters can be placed on any cabinet of suitable size, because... ordinary furniture is designed for a load of 150 kgf.
  • For a tank up to about 150 liters you need a reinforced cabinet; preferably frame. The combat drawers are made from timber from 60x60 mm; horizontal – from 100x50 mm. The installation step of the combat side frames is no more than 400 mm; their height is up to 650 mm. The tabletop is solid laminate from 32 mm.
  • For aquariums of larger capacity, the pressure on the support exceeds the building norm of 250 kg/sq.m. m, so stands for them are calculated individually based on the size of the tank and the design parameters of the building; The aquarium stand is usually mechanically connected to the building structure. In an apartment building, the design of a large aquarium must be checked/developed in a specialized organization and approved by the building operator.

About corner cabinets

The bedside table is essentially a subordinate element of the interior, so corner bedside tables are not in use in living rooms: what’s on the corner is always in sight. There is simply no room for one in a regular bathroom or kitchen, but a corner cabinet can come in handy in a narrow space behind the door for all sorts of little things that are equally inconvenient to hide far away and keep in sight. Let's say, for not the most favorite toys, knitting/weaving, which is taken up as free time is available, etc. In such a case - in Fig. On the left is a diagram of a corner cabinet-rack. The dimensions in the plan can be changed to suit your apartment.

Just in case

All this is good, the reader may say, but what if the bedside table is needed “for the day before yesterday”? Not luxurious, but made from waste material, so it could be made in half a day and would last for 5-7 years? Let's say, to the country house, to the garage, to the barn?

Please. In Fig. shows how to make a durable and comfortable bedside table from a pallet or other unnecessary boards left over from a construction site. It's so easy to do that no explanation is required. But making one will give you a sense of the material and design, which will then allow you to start working on products that are quite aesthetic and even exclusive.

It will fit perfectly into any interior and will be a good addition to the bedroom set. Following her example, you can make kitchen cabinets for storing household utensils, and in a larger version, the cabinet can easily replace a wardrobe.

Its design is as simple as possible and is perfect for a novice craftsman who is just beginning to master the furniture craft.

In addition, the cabinet is made of natural materials - laminated pine panels and pine boards, which is rare these days, but working with such material is a real pleasure.

The author left the wood untreated. Subsequently, it can be painted, varnished, tinted with stain or decorative oil - options are a dime a dozen, and this is a wonderful opportunity for your imagination.

To work you will need the following materials and tools:

1. Materials:
- laminated pine and pine board:
1. two parts 455x700 mm (sides);
2. two parts 400x455 mm (top and base);
3. eight parts 70x400 mm (for boxes);
4. four parts 170x435 mm (front panels of drawers);
5. eight parts 135x450 mm (for the side walls of the drawers);
6. four parts 135x343 mm (the back walls of the drawers are made of 16 mm thick boards);
7. four parts 340x430 mm (for the base of drawers made of 16 mm material);
- four sets of drawer drawer systems;
- 1800 mm pine stick with a diameter of approximately 25 mm;
- 16 mm screws;
- 40 mm screws;
- wood glue;
- a sealant that is suitable for working with wood (for example, acrylic);
- wood varnish (optional);
- composition for staining on a water, alcohol or oil basis (the author used the tone “Antique Oak”);
- textile.

2. Tools:
- miter saw, jigsaw, or wood saw with fine teeth;
- screwdriver;
- electric drill with wood drill;
- a sander with attachments with coarse and fine sandpaper;
- construction tape;
- pencil;
- square;
- paint brushes.

Step 1: preparing materials.

The latter are very convenient in furniture production, since the individual boards are already glued together into a board and have a pre-prepared, perfectly flat surface. You won’t have to do the scrupulous work of gluing wood, and attaching large parts to each other will be much easier.

Boards for furniture production, even in a domestic workshop, must be pre-planed so that they have the same thickness.

Sand the planed pine board with a sander, first using a 240-grit sandpaper attachment and only then a 120-grit sandpaper attachment.

Mark the parts according to our list and cut them out using the tool most suitable for you: a miter saw, a jigsaw or a regular wood saw with a fine and sharp tooth.

During the marking process, use a square so that all corners are perfectly even and 90 0 C.

Step 2: Assembling the cabinet.

Proceed to the most important stage - assembling the product. To prevent the wood from splitting when screwing in the screws, holes must be drilled at the fastening points.

At home, an electric drill is most often used for these purposes, but the author advises purchasing a special machine that makes countersunk holes at the required angle. This machine allows you to make furniture without any visible joints. In the photo below you can see what such a machine looks like.

So, mark and make holes in the places of proposed connections and assemble the frame of the cabinet as shown in the photo.

Please note that the opening for each drawer must be 150mm high.

If you are using a pine board of greater or less thickness, 20 mm thick, recalculate the dimensions of the cabinet parts.

The author, we must give him credit, originally processed the upper edges of the cabinet, using a natural pine stick for this. He couldn't find a stick with a diameter of 20 mm, so he used a stick with a diameter of 25 mm. It turned out to be a little big, but it didn’t spoil the overall picture.

Mark and saw the edge sticks at a 45°C angle and secure them in place with liquid nail adhesive. You can also use wood glue, but the first option will add strength to your product.

The author will also fill all the cracks and corners with acrylic sealant. It is less susceptible to mechanical damage than the wood putty familiar to many.

Step 3: mark the drawers and install the drawers.

Before you begin installing drawers and drawers, mark the cabinet. Use a metal ruler for this, following the example of the author, as shown in the photo below. This way you will get a smooth, perfectly parallel line.

Secure the retractable systems along the pre-drawn line using screws and a screwdriver. Fix the edges first, and then the middle part of the strips.

Step 4: making boxes.

The author used 16 mm thick material to make the boxes simply because it was at hand in sufficient quantities. However, the boxes turned out to be heavy. Therefore, he advises using a thinner, lighter material such as plywood in areas where possible.

Proceed with installing the remaining elements of the drawer systems to the side parts of the drawers. It is much more convenient to do this before their final assembly.

Once the hardware is installed, assemble the drawers using the parts from our list. The author coated the gaps at the junction of the parts inside the box with sealant.

Step 5: protective and decorative wood treatment and finishing touches.

As a protective and decorative coating, he used stain in the form of an Antique Oak gel tone. It not only tints the wood, but also protects it from adverse external factors such as humidity, ultraviolet radiation, and some chemical influences.

Clean the cabinet from dust and apply the stain using a paint brush or any other convenient method. If the tone is not deep enough and does not match what is indicated on the label, repeat the procedure. Remove any remaining stain that has not been absorbed using a dry, clean cloth. Wait until the cabinet is completely dry.

At this stage, you can use water-based wood varnish to further protect the wood from mechanical damage. It can be applied in several layers, lightly sanding each layer. Thus, each new layer of varnish penetrates and reliably adheres to the previous one.

You can also varnish the inside of the drawers. This will make it easy to clean the cabinet as it gets dirty. This is especially true if you are making furniture for the kitchen.

Finally, secure the drawer fronts by turning the cabinet on its back. To do this, place pieces of thin material under the drawer on the back side to push them out a little.

Today, many people are faced with the problem of lack of funds. This problem becomes especially relevant when renovating and furnishing a new apartment. Just imagine that you are buying an apartment in a new building, and suddenly the prices for building materials and furniture increase. This takes a significant toll on the family budget. Today many people face this problem. Of course, you can save on repairs or furniture. But, you must be careful, since using low-quality material may not end up the way you wanted. In many cases, this leads to the need to redo a particular job using better materials. As a result, costs double or even higher.

If saving on building materials is pointless, then this option can be considered with furniture. In this case, the best option would be to make furniture with your own hands. This allows for significant savings, since the money will be spent exclusively on materials, and not on labor costs for the production or assembly of furniture. Of course, making furniture is a rather complex process in which it is necessary to take into account some nuances.

Bedside tables

If you decide to make furniture for your new home yourself, it is better to start with something simple. In this case, the best start would be to make a bedside table with your own hands, which has a very simple design, which will allow even a non-professional furniture maker to make it.

So, how to make a bedside table with your own hands? Creating a bedside table with your own hands, and other furniture, must begin with determining its design features. To do this, you need to take a piece of paper and draw a future interior element on it. Of course, before this it is better to look at photos of bedside tables with your own hands. If you have a computer, you can create a sketch of a wooden bedside table with your own hands using programs that professional furniture manufacturers use in their work. The main thing here is to accurately determine the size of the bedside table with your own hands. In order to facilitate the process of making a bedside table, each element must be separately depicted with exact dimensions. Drawings of a bedside table with your own hands will allow you to quickly and easily make blanks.

As for the blanks, they can be ordered from a carpentry workshop, where professionals using machines will quickly resolve this issue. In this case, it is worth paying attention to the edge that is applied to the end of the boards. For such an application you will have to pay a considerable amount separately, especially considering the number of blanks. In order to save on this, you can carry out this process yourself using a common household appliance - an iron. You just need to purchase such a tape and, under heat treatment, secure it to the ends of the workpieces.

You can also make a cabinet with your own hands from materials that simply lie idle and take up space for nothing. So, for example, a DIY chipboard cabinet may be the best solution for you.

So, if you make your own bedside table from scrap wood, then its blanks will need to be processed. First of all, the blanks are cut to the dimensions that were determined during the sketching process. To do this, it is better to first make a bedside table out of cardboard with your own hands, which will allow you to use it as a stencil. After they are ready, they must be processed using a sanding machine. This will give the surface beauty and smoothness. Also, the parts will need to be treated with stain, which will protect them from negative environmental factors and give them a beautiful shade.

After this, all parts of the product can be assembled into one design. Often, glue and screws are used to fasten wooden elements. If making a bedside table with your own hands is carried out using material from the workshop, then you can use hex bolts, which are widely used in the production of modern furniture. In order to use such a mount, it is necessary to make holes of the appropriate diameter. At the final stage, the fittings are installed and the edges are glued.

1. In the process of manufacturing blanks, it is necessary to accurately maintain the dimensions that were determined during the design of the furniture. A deviation of a couple of millimeters can ruin all the work. As a result, it will be almost impossible to assemble a bedside table with your own hands. This is especially true for a DIY corner bedside table.
2. Wood cutting must be done carefully and slowly. This will allow for a quality cut. This is especially true when cutting with an electric jigsaw.
3. It is worth using high-quality material to make furniture. If appearance plays an important role, then you should choose the classic version of the material - chipboard with a laminated coating. Of course, if it is possible to make furniture from solid wood, then you should use this option. DIY wooden bedside tables have many advantages.
4. To create a beautiful appearance of the bedside table, you should use high-quality fittings. Cheap fittings can completely ruin the appearance of the furniture, which will completely ruin your efforts. As for quality, special attention should be paid to curtains and drawer guides. Decorating a bedside table with your own hands depends on these elements.
5. For drawers, it is better to use ball guides, which do not make noise during operation. Such designs are distinguished not only by silent operation, but also by durability. You can also use regular roller ones in your own balcony bedside tables, since the noise during their operation will be insignificant.
6. When gluing the edges, you should use a piece of paper that is placed between the iron and the material. This will allow you to properly glue the edge and avoid its damage while working with the iron. If we are talking about a bathroom cabinet with your own hands, then you need to be very careful when gluing the edges, since moisture ingress can damage the structure of the material.

TV stand

Anyone can make a bedside table with their own hands. Do-it-yourself kitchen cabinets are made using the same technology. The only difference is the size and number of drawers and compartments. As for technology, it is the same everywhere, which cannot be said about a DIY TV stand. If you like to often watch movies on a DVD player and your house is full of discs, then you simply need a DIY TV stand. You can install not only a video player in it, but also store discs and magazines.

You can buy a TV stand ready-made, or you can make it yourself. The advantage of the second option is that you can create bedside tables of the design you want. You can also make a folding table or cabinet with your own hands for an aquarium. In order to make a TV stand with your own hands, you will need:
1. Tree. In this case, laminated chipboard would be the best option.
2. PVA wood glue for better fastening of workpieces.
3. Glass. This is if you want to make glass shelves.
4. Fastening elements, wheels.
5. Edging.

So, how to make a cabinet with your own hands? To make a cabinet with your own hands from wood, it is best to use laminated chipboard, the thickness of which should be at least 16 mm. As with a do-it-yourself aquarium bedside table, making furniture must begin with drawing up a sketch. The design of the bedside table must be complex, since it is often installed in the living room. With the right approach, it will be possible to make furniture that will delight not only your household, but also your guests. In this case, it is better to use designs with rounded corners, which will give the product modernity and elegance. This DIY bedside table decor will make it stand out from the rest of the interior.

The advantage of using laminated chipboard is that you can save time on making a bedside table for an aquarium or TV with your own hands, since there is no need for processing or sanding the surface. So, the do-it-yourself drawings of the TV stand and its individual parts are ready. Now you can begin the actual production of blanks. When applying dimensions to the material, it is necessary to adhere to exact dimensions.

During the cutting process, the hacksaw blade should not go beyond the mark line. In order to make an even cut, it is better to use an electric jigsaw. In this case, his movements should be smooth. If you push the tool with great force, this can lead to damage to the integrity of the top coating of the chipboard.

When the blanks are ready, you can start drilling holes for fasteners and furniture fittings. If you have shelves in your cabinet with your own hands, then it is better to use modern “tablet” holders. Attaching such elements is quite simple. You just need to make a hole of small diameter and insert a holder made in the form of a capsule with a limiter in the middle. Before folding the bedside table, all holes must be cleared of shavings.

After everything is prepared, you can start folding the aquarium cabinet with your own hands. When attaching structural elements, you should use PVA glue. Adding a little glue to the holes for the fasteners will improve their fixation and make the connection more durable and reliable. After the structure is ready, it is necessary to glue the edging to the ends of the chipboard. The iron is still used here. In this case, you must remember to use a piece of paper, which will protect the surface of the edging tape from the hot sole of the iron.

The manufacture of the bedside table ends with the installation of shelves. A good option for a TV stand would be glass shelves, which will add elegance to the design. If desired, a stand for an aquarium with your own hands or for a TV can be installed on wheels, which will allow you to move it around the room if the need arises.

In order to create a modern bedside table that will be no different from the models in the store, it is necessary to use complex designs. A blank bedside table with several drawers would not be the best option here. To improve the appearance of the product, it is worth using small structures above the lid of the bedside table. So, you can make one niche under the TV in which you can install a video player.

The main thing to remember is that the presence of such a complex design will make the product a real work of art that all your guests will be delighted with. Particular attention should be paid to the use of modern materials. Glass and metal will add style and beauty to the product. Properly prepared drawings of a cabinet for an aquarium with your own hands or for a TV will allow you to create furniture of any configuration.

You can also make furniture for any room with your own hands. A DIY shoe cabinet, a DIY sink cabinet, a DIY bathroom cabinet and much more will allow you to save a lot on furnishing your new apartment.
