There are several varieties of aphids, but the most harmful to garden and garden plants Green aphids and black midges are considered. An aphid is an insect that reaches half a centimeter in length and feeds on the sap of plants, which then die. It spoils cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes and many others. Such a tiny insect multiplies very quickly and, moreover, in large quantities. Not only do aphids feed on plants, they also secrete a sticky liquid in which sooty fungi appear, leading to the death of plants.

When growing pepper seedlings, aphids are very dangerous, because, like peppers, they love heat very much and multiply very quickly in greenhouses, where seedlings are usually grown.

If aphids appear, you should immediately begin to fight them.

So, aphids on pepper seedlings, how to deal with this small but very dangerous pest?

These sucking pepper pests are killed by soapy water. You need to make a solution of soap and liquid and then spray the plants. This is very reliable means to combat aphids.

There is a plant from the chamomile species - pyrethrum. It really helps get rid of aphids. It is enough to place this flower near the seedlings, and all the aphids will disappear, because this plant produces a substance that has a fatal effect on such insects.

You still don’t know what to do when there are aphids on pepper seedlings, how to fight them?

There are other insects that are predators of aphids; they eat them. They love to feast on aphids ladybugs, they eat it with pleasure. But in order to attract ladybugs to your garden, you need to grow millennial or find a more convenient way for you to attract these insects.

Destroy aphids and flower beds. For them to settle with you, it is enough to grow daisies or marigolds or parsley and buckwheat.

If there are aphids on pepper seedlings, how to deal with them? Don't want to attract other insects to your garden? There are other ways to fight.

An effective remedy is to spray plants infected with aphids, but the desired result will only be achieved if the solutions are prepared correctly:

1. Take 250 grams of finely chopped garlic and pour two liters of boiling water. Let it sit for a day, then squeeze it out and add 20-30 grams of soaked water to the resulting infusion. laundry soap, and then fill everything with water in the amount of 8 liters. For spraying, take 10 liters of water and 2 liters of infusion.

2. One tablespoon of soda plus 40 grams of household goods. soap and 1 liter of water. Do not insist, but spray immediately.

3. Brew approximately 30 grams of dry mustard powder in half a liter of water, leave for three days with the lid closed. Then add water to total liquid was equal to ten liters.

You still have aphids on your pepper seedlings, but you already know how to fight them! If these methods do not suit you, then there are others.

Aphids can appear on pepper at any time during its growing season - both at the seedling stage and on adult plants.

How to deal with this malicious garden pest How to spray peppers so that aphids leave them forever?

Biological preparations for aphids

Many gardeners prefer to use biological products to control pests so as not to harm their health with chemicals. The drug Fitoverm helps against aphids on peppers. Spray your plants according to the instructions and the aphids will disappear. Of course, not forever, but for enough time for the pepper plant to get stronger.

Aphids can greatly harm young peppers, literally ruin them completely, but the damage done to an adult strong plant is less. Although the yield may decrease significantly because of this.

Folk remedies for aphids on peppers

Getting rid of this pest using various infusions, extracts, etc. is much more difficult than special drugs. You will have to process the plants more than once, so you need to be patient. If the number of aphids on the pepper is critical, that is, the plant has clearly begun to die, then stop all these washings and run to the store for a strong chemical. drug before you lose your plants.

Soap solution for aphids

Most often, a soap solution is used. To prepare the working solution, grate a piece of brown laundry soap and dissolve it in 10 liters of water. You can wash or simply generously spray the affected pepper leaves with this solution. The leaves should be wetted on both sides. Don't forget that the stem must also be processed.

Treatment with aphid ash

Using wood ash to kill aphids on peppers is the second most popular method. To combat aphids, plants are simply dusted with ash, and after rain the procedure is repeated each time, since it is washed off by rain.

You can also spray the pepper with an infusion of wood ash in combination with liquid soap used as an adhesive. To do this, add a half-liter jar of ash to a bucket of water and leave for a day.

Fighting aphids with pine extract

Can be used pine extract, which are sold ready-made, but you can prepare them yourself. To do this, approximately 3 kg of pine needles are filled with water and brought to a boil. Then let it sit for a week, increase the volume of the solution to 10 liters and spray the plants affected by aphids.

The most effective remedy for aphids on peppers

This is, of course, the same chemicals. If you use them strictly according to the instructions, then there is no harm from them. The main thing is to observe the waiting period, that is, use pepper for food after a certain number of days have passed after treating fruit-bearing plants with the drug.

Such drugs as Actellik, Decis, Karbofos, Itavir, Kinmiks, Keltan, Nurell-D, Neoron, Fufanon, Fitoverm, Fosbecid, Fury have shown themselves to be excellent in the fight against aphids.

How to treat aphids on peppers

Good day! Recently I decided to start growing peppers on my plot.

More and more often it began to appear in my daily diet, and it’s impossible to make purchases in the store every time profitable option. But already the first batch of grown peppers was almost lost.

What happened? It's simple: on the plant active work the aphid unfolded. The leaves began to curl and dry out. But with the help of advice from my grandmother, the harvest was saved. Want to know how to treat aphids on peppers? All the details are in the material below.

How to treat aphids on peppers once and for all

Many gardeners have often had to deal with the fact that aphids appear on their site, affecting shrubs and fruits. These small insects begin to suck juices from the green mass, which ultimately leads to a slowdown in the growth of vegetables and fruits.

Since during certain periods of crop growth, aphids can significantly reduce future harvest, then gardeners should know about precautions, as well as ways to combat these pests.

Signs of aphids

First of all, gardeners and gardeners should promptly pay attention to the fact that aphids have already appeared in the garden, and it’s time to prepare means to destroy them. Pests that have settled on plants find a constant source of food for themselves, since the juice of many crops is rich in useful and nutritious minerals.

Among vegetables, peppers are very often infested with aphids. Its foliage contains a lot of sap, which is why insects love this plant. As a result of their vital activity, the leaves gradually begin to curl, then they dry out. You may notice that the wilting process begins from the tips of the foliage.

Signs also include the formation of small honeydew on the green mass. It is secreted by aphids, being the result of its vital activity. The foliage becomes sticky to the touch due to the secretions left by aphids, as well as visually when contacted sunlight you can see that it shines.

It may be noted that on back side In the foliage there are adult aphids, the population of which may depend on the duration of their life on the plants. In addition, laying of aphid eggs can be found in these places, which usually indicates favorable conditions for their reproduction.

The reverse side of the foliage is better suited for insects in that they are in the shade and are better protected from direct hit moisture and are less noticeable to humans or fauna that feed on them.

If the owner notices that the pepper is gradually beginning to fade, then you need to carefully examine these plants. If signs of aphids are detected, use special means to combat them, otherwise the crop may suffer significantly.

Pepper will need to be processed regardless of where it is grown, be it open ground or a greenhouse. By the way, in greenhouses you have to fight aphids much less often, since the structure itself contributes to a certain isolation of pepper from various harmful insects from outside.

Biofighting

The biological way to control aphids on pepper is as follows. In the place where these pests appear, bait is set for birds or other insects that eat aphids. However, this will not work if gardeners grow peppers in a greenhouse and not in open ground.

Sparrows, tits, and wasps are best suited for this task. They will be able to almost completely get rid of aphids within a week without harming the pepper seedlings.

Attracting birds is very simple - you just need to provide them with food and drink on the site. And so that they do not immediately abandon the garden, it will be necessary to maintain such conditions for a certain time until they help get rid of the pests.

Folk remedies

If a gardener immediately notices that aphids have appeared on pepper seedlings, then you can fight it, for which some folk remedies.

Often used soapy water. On the one hand, this may seem like an ineffective method. However, alkali can result in a significant reduction in aphid populations, creating unfavourable conditions for a pest.

This remedy is very simple to prepare. It is enough to add half a bottle of liquid soap to one bucket of water or finely rub half a bar of laundry soap.

After dissolving the product, you will need to carefully spray the pepper seedlings. If the damage to vegetation is widespread, then the soap content in the solution can be increased. Given enough time, you can do this manually, wiping each leaf of the bush.

Efficiency will increase significantly, since the foliage and stem can be processed from all sides. Some gardeners may add a little ammonia to this solution. It contains potent enzymes to which aphids are very vulnerable.

Another way to get rid of aphids is to use wood ash. Straw or sunflower ash is best. After planting, pepper seedlings will need to be sprinkled with dry ash, pouring it directly onto the surface of the plant and soil.

After some time, the wind will blow it out or wash it away with rain, so the ash layer will need to be renewed periodically. It is best to prepare a certain amount of ash so that it is convenient to use the required volume as needed.

Attention!

In addition, ash is good fertilizer, enriching the earth with carbon. This method works well if the peppers are planted in a greenhouse, so that the ash remains on the surface of the green mass longer. When fighting aphids this remedy can be used in aqueous solution. It will be enough to dissolve a glass of ash for 8 liters.

If desired, gardeners add a little soap to the solution with ash to increase the tenacity of the substances in this product. This way they will stay on the surface of the seedlings longer, and the procedure will be carried out less frequently.

An analogue of ash is tobacco ash, which remains in the ashtray after smoking cigarettes. It is more pungent and the smell will be characteristic, but at the same time it is no less effective in combating aphids. Only this will require a lot of ashes. Therefore, it can be collected for a long time.

Among other folk remedies against aphids, you can find the use of pine needles. You need to take 2-3 kilograms of coniferous mass, put it in large capacity, then fill it to the top with water and put on fire. The water must be brought to a boil so that the needles give up all their components and essential oils. After this, you will need to infuse the product for a week.

When it is ready, you will need to spray the pepper. The seedlings can also be wiped with a wet sponge or rag, as in the case of a soap solution. When watering the pepper, you will need to let the water go under the root so as not to wash off the product from the surface of the pepper foliage with splashes.

There are also other banal and simple ways fight aphids. Some gardeners can collect insects from the surface of seedlings manually if they do not want to use them in greenhouses. chemical substances. They crush them immediately without collecting them in separate containers.

You can also try to shoot down aphids with a jet cold water. The water should be just cold, allowing the pests to be immobilized. Falling to the ground, they will no longer be able to climb to the surface of the seedlings and will die without food.

It must be admitted that these methods are not very effective, since it will not be possible to collect absolutely all the bred aphids and some will remain on the pepper.

Chemicals

To get rid of aphids that have affected the foliage vegetable pepper, it is best to use special chemicals because they have a strong effect.

Among the majority of agents to which aphids are vulnerable, one can find those that are harmful to health and environment. With proper dosage and use, you can protect yourself from risk.

First of all, you should follow the instructions for their use, which are usually applied to the surface of the package or included with the kit.

Common remedies against aphids are:

  • Fury. A contact insecticide that is used primarily to control aphids on peppers during growing season seedlings.
  • Furanone. An organophosphorus compound based on malathion. It is not dangerous to humans, but is fatal to harmful insects.
  • Actellik. The base is pirimiphosmethyl. A very strong component that can destroy aphids almost immediately after processing pepper.

In order to prevent the appearance of pests on seedlings, it is necessary to systematically inspect the entire area and crops in order to detect signs of infection or the harmful insects themselves in time.

Additionally, you can plant plants around the perimeter that have a strong odor for pests, for example, onions or garlic.

How to treat aphids on peppers

Aphids are insects whose size does not exceed a few millimeters. Although some of the species can reach a length of 5 to 7 mm. Aphids feed exclusively on plant sap, some of them are dangerous garden pests.

In addition, certain species can spread all sorts of viral forms of plant diseases, ultimately causing various anomalies in the plants affected by them.

The attractiveness of pepper to aphids

It is well known that aphids feed on plant sap, which is rich in sweet (bell) peppers. And therefore, among the abundance of garden plant crops, aphids often give their preference to pepper. This choice is quite understandable, because by settling on pepper, aphids obtain a tasty food source with large energy resources.

The situation for amateur gardeners is also significantly worsened by the fact that soon after the aphids a huge number of ants appear in the beds. They feed on honeydew (honeydew is the sweet secretion of some species of plants and insects), which is secreted by aphids.

Ants in some way protect it (aphids) from external natural enemies, thereby facilitating the reproduction of this harmful insect. Peppers begin to get sick from such an invasion of insects, therefore, their yield is reduced to zero.

Signs of a pest

Main distinctive features what's on summer cottage there are aphids, they serve:

After detecting pests on pepper, a logical question arises: how to get rid of them? There are several ways to combat this scourge:

  • various modern chemicals;
  • folk and biological methods.

Fighting aphids using folk methods

Since this problem (the appearance of aphids) is not new, there are many descriptions of homemade products - various types infusions, solutions, decoctions, “cocktails” and the like. In many variants they contain such a component as a solution based on laundry soap.

More precisely, it will be the main unifying component - what is important is the proper preparation of the soap base, into which you can subsequently mix wood ash, ammonia, sunflower oil, etc.

The solution is prepared as follows:

  • grate 5-6 grams of ordinary (laundry) soap on a fine grater;
  • pour the resulting soap crumbs with one liter of warm water;
  • mix and shake thoroughly;
  • leave the solution for several hours (at least 5);
  • strain through cheesecloth;
  • add the selected excipient (ash, ammonia, oil);
  • pour into the sprayer tank;
  • we treat the plant (pepper) affected by pests.
  • First way:
  • pour two liters of boiling water over 300 grams of pre-finely chopped garlic;
  • leave for 24 hours, squeeze out, then pour 25-30 grams of liquid soap into the resulting liquid;
  • dilute the solution with 8 liters of water;
  • when spraying, for every two liters of tincture, add another ten liters of water.
  • Second way:
    • 1 tablespoon of soda (20 g);
    • 40 grams of laundry soap;
    • 1 liter of water;
    • Stir and immediately spray on diseased plants.
  • Third way:
    • steam thirty grams of mustard powder in 0.5 liters of water;
    • leave for 72 hours (3 days) in a hermetically sealed container;
    • Liquen the resulting mass to a volume of 10 liters.

Biological protection of the garden

The very principle of such protection is very simple. To do this, you need to attract natural enemies of aphids - birds and insects - to your site.

The insects that aphids dislike the most are:

  1. ladybugs and their larvae;
  2. lacewing;
  3. ground beetles;
  4. predatory bugs;

And among birds, the eternal enemies are:

  • sparrows;
  • kings;
  • warblers;
  • tits;
  • wrens;
  • linnets.

To attract these wonderful birds and insects to your garden, you should plant plants with spicy odors:

  • dill,
  • parsley,
  • cloves,
  • carrot,
  • nettle

Destruction of aphids using chemicals

The modern chemical industry produces a huge variety of drugs to combat insect pests. vegetable crops. Whether to use them or not is a personal choice of the gardener.

If you are the owner of the notorious six hundred square meters, then it is quite possible to get by with the above methods, to which you can add completely harmless to humans, but no less effective types of biological destruction or repelling aphids.

How to treat aphids on peppers

Growing sweet bell peppers is not particularly difficult. Gardeners know that this crop is quite unpretentious, and climatic conditions For its full growth and fruiting, they have a wide range of temperatures and the number of sunny days.

Attention!

Tiny seedlings are carefully grown on windowsills, and with the first warmth they are planted in a greenhouse or hothouse. Pepper gains strength quite quickly.

But there is one tiny pest that can not only significantly reduce growth rates, but even completely destroy these plants. It's called aphid. If you find that there are aphids on pepper, measures must be taken urgently. Small size These insects are very deceptive. They are extremely gluttonous and suck all the juices out of the pepper.

Why does pepper attract pests?

This insect feeds on plant sap, so it is not surprising that the nutritious and tasty pepper is an excellent source of food for it. Fighting it is difficult - the insect quickly increases its number without the pupal stage.

Eggs individual species aphids are even able to overwinter on the remains of plants, so that when warm days come, they hatch and reproduce again.

The invasion of aphids, which suck the juices, causes a delay in the development of pepper:

  • The growth of the vegetable is delayed, and if it is severely damaged, it stops completely;
  • The leaves begin to bend, after a while they turn yellow and begin to fall off;
  • The inflorescences stop forming and developing, and the already grown ones fall off.

In addition, aphids provoke the development of viral diseases, transmitting them between plants, serving as a kind of carrier of diseases. It is difficult for pepper seedlings to cope with this pest on their own; for this reason, the fight against it should begin immediately when a problem is detected.

Wet and warm air, for example, the microclimate of a greenhouse is a temperature of more than 22 degrees and a humidity of more than 75%, favorable conditions for the development of the pest.

Prevention of occurrence

Simple and effective method, preventing the appearance of aphids - remove damaged areas of the plant every day. You also need to ensure timely watering: wet soil will not bring anything good, as well as vice versa, lack of watering can lead to drying out of the peppers.

To repel larvae, you can use a tincture of onion and garlic, since specific smell scares them away.

You can also plant plants next to the pepper that are of greater interest to the aphids. Such plants can be petunia, mallow, begonia and others. Aphids also appear on odorous plants- such as chamomile, marigolds, which can be planted next to pepper.

Signs of defeat

The damage to pepper seedlings by aphids can be determined by the following signs:

  1. seedlings are covered with a cluster small insects black or green in color and their eggs, there are especially many of them on inside foliage;
  2. leaves and stems, shiny and sticky with honeydew secreted by insects;
  3. the plant slows down, its leaves curl and then dry out.

Chemical methods

At large clusters aphids and serious damage, when the leaves begin to fall off, it is impossible to destroy aphids without the use of chemicals. It is prohibited to use any insecticides during the formation of ovaries and when the pepper already bears fruit.

The following drugs are used against aphids: Aktara, Decis, Zolon, Karate, Fitoverm in strict accordance with the instructions. All plants need to be treated, not just damaged ones.

It is also recommended to carry out preventive spraying of neighboring plants to prevent aphids from moving onto them. All work is carried out in dry, windless weather, preferably in the evening. Repeated treatment is carried out after 10-14 days.

Aphids quickly adapt to all chemicals, so they need to be alternated from time to time. If the peppers have bloomed and formed fruits, then in case of an aphid invasion it is better to use folk remedies.

Ecological and biological methods

Birds can cause enormous damage to aphid colonies. Attract sparrows, tits, warblers, starlings, robins and other small birds to your garden. To ensure that birds become permanent residents of your garden, install water bowls, bathhouses, hang feeders, and houses.

Predatory insects/entomophages. Aphids have natural enemies - other insects. Ladybugs, lacewings, wasps, and other insects will help you in the fight against aphids. Spare no effort - learn to recognize your assistants and their larvae by sight. For example: a ladybug larva resembles a Colorado potato beetle larva.

Remember: Colorado potato beetles They live only on nightshades, and on cherries, cherries, roses and other plants - these are the larvae of ladybirds. Don't offend them, for your own benefit.

Plants help fight aphids. Plants can help your garden different ways. Some repel aphids, while others lure them to themselves.

Plants that repel different types of aphids. These plants can be planted along the contour of the beds, in rows between plantings. Use: garlic and onions, as well spices– basil, dill, fennel, celery, arugula, parsley.

Medicinal herbs will also be effective in the fight against aphids: thyme, lemon balm, lavender, mint. Even flowers will help get rid of aphids: all types of marigolds and pyrethrums will repel aphids. And daisies will attract beneficial insects.

Folk remedies

There are many available and natural remedies against aphids. The first is mechanical destruction of aphids with a strong stream of water or manual collection of aphids in a container with water. It should be taken into account that the pressure of water can break weak bushes, as well as the fact that peppers do not tolerate cold water. Moreover, this method is the most environmentally friendly.

Mechanical collection of aphids can be used in conjunction with spraying. The second folk remedy against aphids is to spray pepper bushes with infusions of chamomile, celandine, tomato tops, tobacco, garlic and others. For better adhesion, soap solution or vegetable oil is added to the infusions.

All these means disorient aphids with a pungent odor. Just like chemicals, they must be alternated so that the aphids do not have time to adapt. When the number of aphids increases, spraying with folk remedies can be carried out every 3-5 days.

Tobacco infusion. Use 500 g of tobacco, 30-40 g of laundry soap per 20 liters. water. Tobacco leaves are infused in 10 liters. warm water for 2-3 days. The solution is filtered and the remaining water is added. Laundry soap is mixed well with the solution.

Infusion of yarrow. Take 700-800 g of yarrow, 40 g of laundry soap and 10 liters. water. The grass is poured with boiling water and allowed to stand for several days. Then soap is added and diluted in it.

Attention!

Use of ash. Use 3 cups of ash, 40 g of laundry soap, 10 l. water. IN warm water dilute ash and grated soap. Let it brew for two days. Using this recipe will not only get rid of aphids, but will also work as foliar feeding.

Tomato tops. Take 5 kg. green leaves, add 10 l. hot water and 30 min. boil. Prepare a solution in required ratios: for 1 l. decoction – 3 l. water. Soap is added before use.

Hot chilli pepper. 100 g of fresh pods are boiled in 1 liter. water, let it brew for 2 days, filter. The resulting concentrated solution is diluted 1:10.

If there are aphids on the pepper

Naturally, the earlier the aphid appears, the worse it is for the plant. Young plant It is more difficult to survive the invasion of this pest than an adult, strong one. Therefore, if you find aphids on pepper seedlings, start fighting them immediately.

Delay is fraught with the death of plants, since the number of the pest increases very quickly.

What to do if aphids appear on peppers? First of all, carefully examine the seedlings and determine the scale of the disaster. If there are not so many aphids, you can try to get rid of them using traditional methods, or use biological agents.

If everything looks absolutely terrible, you will most likely have to use chemicals. The same thing applies to mature pepper plants - it all depends on the number of aphids.

Biological agents

Now in any garden store you can buy a wonderful remedy for aphids, thrips and mites - Fitoverm. We would advise you to use it first. It is inexpensive, and the reviews about it are only positive.

Instructions for use are given on the back of the bag. A very good, proven product. If for some reason you didn’t buy it, there is the drug Strela, which also helps very well against aphids on peppers.

Folk recipes

The easiest way to get rid of aphids is to wash or spray the leaves on both sides with a soap solution. To do this, dissolve 20-40 g of laundry soap in 1 liter of water. If you see garden green soap (potassium soap) on sale, it’s better to take it, it helps better.

In the fight against aphids, all kinds of infusions and decoctions have become widespread.

Wood ash from aphids. For 10 liters of water, 2 cups of ash, leave for 24 hours, strain, add liquid or laundry soap (70-100 g) and spray the leaves on both sides.

Tobacco against aphids. Pour 50 g of tobacco into 1 liter of hot water, leave for 24 hours, strain, add soap, spray on all sides.

Onions and garlic from aphids. 100 g of chopped onions and peels, or 50 g of garlic, pour 10 lire of water, leave for a day, strain, spray the plants.

Dry chamomile. 100 g pour 1 liter of water, leave for 12 hours, strain, add liquid soap, dilute 1:3, spray.

Celandine for aphids on pepper. Pour 1 kg of celandine into 10 liters of hot water, leave for 2 days, strain, spray.

Yarrow for aphids. 800 g of plant is poured with 2 liters of boiling water and left for 1 hour. Then filter and top up to 10 liters, spray.

Dandelion from aphids. Pour 0.5 kg of leaves with 10 liters of water, leave for 3 hours, strain, spray.

Tomato tops from aphids. 1 kg of tops is crushed, filled with water to 10 liters, infused for 4 hours, then this infusion is brought to a boil and infused for another 3 hours. Next, the prepared broth is diluted 1:3 and sprayed on the pepper plants.

Mustard for aphids. Pour 10 g of mustard powder into 1 liter of water and leave for 2 days. For spraying, dilute with water 1:4.

Red hot pepper. 20 g pour 200 ml of water, leave for a day, spray.

Try to plant garlic, onions, coriander, mint, marigolds, fennel, feverfew, and lavender in the garden next to the peppers. It has been noticed that with such joint planting, aphids do not appear on peppers.

Chemicals

If aphids appear on homemade peppers (bitter peppers are often grown on windowsills) or on seedlings, try to avoid biological means or traditional methods. Since the ventilation in the room is poor, the chemicals used. medications may harm your health.

If you have to fight aphids in the garden, then use products such as Kinmiks, Decis, Arrivo, Intavir. They are very effective, but after such treatment the fruits can be used for food only after 20-30 days.

If you have your own effective ways combating aphids, both on seedlings and on adult plants, please write them in the comments. Perhaps your methods are more accessible or more effective, because completely getting rid of aphids is not so easy.

How to fight aphids on bell peppers: preparations for treatment, folk methods

Bulgarian Bell pepper has long since moved from the southern regions to the middle zone and has become a popular culture in our country. It is grown almost everywhere. And if it is not possible to get a harvest “under open air", then greenhouse sweet fruits are obtained already in Siberia.

How to determine if aphids have appeared on peppers

Small, greenish insects, usually found in colonies on the lower surface of the leaf, can cause significant damage to the plant. These are representatives of the family of phytophages, which use a proboscis to suck juice from leaves and young shoots. And peppers have a lot of juice. For aphids, this is a good food resource, with a reserve.

Attention!

The underside of the leaf is inhabited by a colony of aphids. Adults and their larvae are visible. Using their proboscis, they suck the juice from the leaves, causing them to wither and die.

On pepper you can find the appearance of “ uninvited guests", taking a closer look at the culture:

  • noticeable curling and wilting of the leaf blade;
  • if these are young peppers, then the seedlings will wilt;
  • the leaf becomes sticky due to the sweet honeydew secreted by aphids;
  • a characteristic shine is visible on the leaf blade;
  • on the reverse side of the leaf small, green insects and their larvae are visible;
  • there are many ants on the stem. Ants “feast” on the sweet honeydew (honeydew) secreted by aphids. They guard the colony and monitor the number of individuals.

Reasons for appearance

The ants “milk” the aphid colony by consuming the sweet honeydew. They monitor the colony and its increase in numbers.

To understand the reasons for the appearance, you need to know life cycle insect. The eggs overwinter in different secluded places: in the bark of trees or under a layer of leaves. In the spring, females with wings emerge from them. Due to them, the settlement of the colony begins. The female flies from plant to plant and is capable of hatching 50 larvae during the growing season.

Ants also promote dispersal by transporting aphids to establish new colonies. This is a kind of symbiosis that is beneficial to insects. The ants consume the honeydew secreted by the aphids and protect the colony, while the aphids spread and multiply at the expense of the ants.

If no measures are taken, the pepper will gradually dry out and the harvest can be lost quite quickly. And the death and drying out of seedlings occurs even faster.

Benefits of chemicals

Controlling aphids is not easy, as they multiply quickly. Therefore, many gardeners try to immediately destroy aphids using chemical methods. This is the most effective way. Modern means there is contact, intestinal or joint action. Let's look at the most effective of them:

Before using the drug, carefully read the instructions. Carry out the treatment in the evening, when there is no wind. Rain will quickly wash away the drug, so watch the weather. Use a special sprayer and products personal protection. Read also the article: → “How to get rid of aphids: a selection of the best methods.”

Safety of biological agents

There are birds and insects that readily feed on aphids. They are its natural enemies. Among insects, aphids are eaten by hoverflies, ladybugs, lacewings, earwigs, ichneumon wasps, ground beetles and other predatory garden inhabitants. To attract them, fragrant herbs are grown. Small birds, such as sparrows, tits, wrens, wrens, and linnets, feed themselves and feed aphids to their chicks.

To attract birds to the site, you need to build birdhouses, place drinking bowls, and feeders with food.

The ladybug is a natural enemy of the aphid, which destroys it. Therefore, if there are many natural enemies of the pest on the site, they will help to cope with it.
Scented herbs containing phytoncides can repel aphids. These are marigolds, coriander, garlic, mint, basil, lavender and others.

They can be planted near the peppers in small groups or singly. There are also special biological drugs. They contain extracts from plants and herbs. These are high-quality and harmless drugs of the new generation.

Help against aphids:

  1. Akarin (actophyte): the basis is natural components produced by soil fungi. Is neurotoxic. The dose depends on the type of pest. Soap is added to the solution for better contact.
  2. Fitoverm: the active ingredient is obtained from a soil fungus. The dose depends on the crop being treated. On days 5-7 the pests die.
  3. Boverin: based on fungal spores. Used for plants closed ground. A 1% solution is prepared, treatment temperature is 20-25C.

You cannot treat with pesticides if you use living organisms to combat aphids. Pesticides cannot be used during the budding phase, the period of fruit ripening. But biological preparations can be used throughout the growing season.

Application of preventive and physical control methods

Using the pressure of cold water, you can wash the pest to the ground. He becomes motionless and dies. The method only partially helps to get rid of aphids.

The list of these methods is not so long, and they are not the most effective:

  • Disinfection of seeds and soil.
  • Tillage of the soil on the site: weeding and digging.
  • Reducing the number of ants. How fewer ants, the faster the aphids will disappear.
  • Manual collection of the pest and its destruction (crushed on the lower surface of the leaf blade).
  • Rinse the peppers with a stream of cold water, which renders the insects immobile. Once on the ground, they cannot return to the plant, which leads to their death.

Disinfection of seeds and the soil in which they will be planted is also necessary to combat bacterial and fungal diseases. This technique must be used.

Folk remedies

The use of folk remedies gives positive results. They are less safe than chemical methods, but no less effective. You just need to properly prepare infusions, decoctions, milkshakes, and then use them in time, when aphids have just begun to appear on peppers.

Almost all prepared preparations contain a component such as soap. A soap solution allows the repellent or destructive agent to stay on the plant for a longer time.

Therefore, we competently prepare the soap base:

  1. We grate laundry soap: 4-5g is enough.
  2. We dilute soap shavings in a liter of water.
  3. Mix thoroughly until it dissolves well.
  4. Leave for 5 hours, then strain.
  5. Add the rest of the ingredients and pour into the sprayer.
  6. We carry out processing.

Below are other popular ways to control aphids:

Any solution prepared for the first time must first be tested for small area, making sure of its effectiveness. You need to use a fine spray to treat bottom part leaf blade.

Infusions from plants, despite their composition, can:

  • cause a burn on the leaves (if a high concentration of solution is used)
  • pose a danger not only to the pest, but also to the beneficial inhabitants of the garden,
  • some of them are poisonous to humans.

The method that was used by our grandfathers and great-grandfathers is fumigation tobacco smoke. Take a bucket or large tin and light a fire from the twigs. The fire is burning and you need to pour into it tobacco dust. We place the container so that the white smoke falls on the peppers. We smoke for several hours. When the smoke disappears, the aphids will die.

How to get rid of aphids in a greenhouse

Aphids can enter a greenhouse in different ways: during ventilation, with contaminated soil, with young plants or cuttings. It develops in an incomplete cycle: the larva is a wingless female, the larva is a wingless female, etc.

Chemicals and folk remedies are the same as for open ground wrestling. But prevention will be different:

  • It is advisable to grow onions or garlic around the greenhouse. They contain phytoncides, repelling aphids with their smell.
  • Shelving, inner part greenhouses, work equipment must be periodically treated with caustic soda or bleach. The first treatment must be done before planting the seedlings.
  • In order for the peppers to be strong, it is important to provide the necessary conditions for them in closed ground.

Remember that aphids do not just suck the juice out of plants, they also transmit various viral and bacterial diseases. Therefore, along with pests, diseases can also be introduced. In addition, in a greenhouse, aphids provide much large quantity generations, since greenhouse conditions are optimal for it.

IN autumn period, after harvesting, it is important to disinfect for the winter. Pest larvae can overwinter in soil and plant debris, so we carry out a set of measures:

The work is carried out late autumn, at t not lower than +10-15C. At low temperatures the effect of most drugs becomes ineffective.

Aphids can settle on any type of pepper. But there are varieties that can withstand pest attacks more steadfastly. Those. they are less susceptible to its effects. This hybrid varieties, which tolerate conditions well in the middle zone, and are not always favorable weather, and illness.

Answers to frequently asked questions

If pest control is carried out correctly, then good harvest will be provided.

Question No. 1. Aphids have tormented my peppers. And I'm tired of buying chemicals to fight it. How to fight? Use folk remedies with soapy water. It's safer and works better. I use tobacco infusion. When the aphids die, I wash the plants with water.

Question No. 2. Tell me, are aphids dangerous for seedlings? Aphids love tender shoots and young leaves. In this sense, she will “like” the seedlings much more than mature plant. And she will destroy her very quickly. At the first sign of a pest, take action immediately.

Question No. 3. Which chemicals are most effective? I use Confidor extra odorless. It not only destroys pests, but stimulates plant recovery. There wasn’t even a living leaf on the pepper, but now new ones are growing.

Question No. 4. Is it true that aphids are guarded by ants? Yes, they like the sweet secretions of aphids. I don't fight aphids, but get rid of ants. No ants - no aphids.

Attention!

Question No. 5. Does the spread of aphids depend on climate zone? Yes, optimal conditions for it – t=20-25С and humidity -80%. So it is more common in the southern regions. Accordingly, it gives more generations. And the control measures are more serious.

Aphids attack many plants. This is a dangerous and invisible pest that causes serious damage to agricultural crops. Therefore, at the first signs of damage, take action, otherwise you will have to buy peppers. It's a shame because raising them in middle lane or Siberia is not so simple.

You cannot ignore if aphids appear on the pepper. Only timely treatment of plantings guarantees a complete cure. In addition, on initial stages Infection with aphids can be managed with simple folk remedies that will not cause harm to others.

The appearance of aphids on bell pepper can be noticed almost immediately. A signal that it is time to carefully inspect the plantings and process them is ants running around the plants. They disperse aphids along the shoots in order to be able to collect honeydew, a sweet liquid that insects secrete.

The main signs of the appearance of a colony of aphids on peppers:

  • at first - white spots on the leaves;
  • subsequently the foliage curls and turns yellow;
  • Shine and sticky drops appear on the plant;
  • severely affected leaves fall off;
  • the growth of seedlings slows down, this is especially noticeable in seedlings;
  • the flowers fly around without forming ovaries.

Seedlings that are attacked by pests often die completely. Weakened peppers do not take root well after transplantation. Shoots oppressed by aphids begin to become covered with mold, which develops from the remains of the life activity of this pest.

The tops of the bushes bend, the stems become deformed. On the underside of the leaves you can easily see insects and egg laying.

It is necessary to treat aphids on peppers as quickly as possible, because their massive spread leads to a decrease in yield or complete death of plants.

What types of aphids attack peppers?

Aphid food is plant sap. The pest takes it not only from leaves, but also from shoots, roots, and flowers. These insects have a proboscis with which they pierce the surface.

Features of the pest:

  • dimensions different types- from 0.3 to 8 mm;
  • transparent, they adapt to the color of the leaves of the affected plant;
  • life expectancy - about a month;
  • females can fly, thus infecting other bushes;
  • over the summer, the female makes up to 10 clutches of eggs, that is, she reproduces several thousand pests;
  • eggs left by females among fallen leaves or in cracks in tree bark overwinter in the garden.

High reproduction rates are possible under conditions warm temperature And high humidity. In a few days it can spread throughout all the beds. The pest feels best in a greenhouse or on seedlings at home.

The following can settle on peppers:

  • tobacco aphid, which has a greenish-yellow or pinkish tint, red eyes and measures about 2.5 mm;
  • potato aphid is red or green in color, with a body length of up to 4 mm;
  • root with a waxy coating on a yellow, white or greenish body;
  • domestic (black, white, green, red) aphids can settle on seedlings if indoor flowers are infected with them.

Pests can get onto peppers from clothing or untreated tools.

There are more than 3,000 species of aphids. Black and green aphids pose a greater threat to peppers.

Aphids settle on peppers because their succulent leaves have a thin outer covering. This allows the pest to easily obtain food.

How to get rid of aphids

If an insect is noticed as soon as it appears, it is much easier to deal with it than at late stages infection.

To begin with, the affected plants need to be fed, because strong peppers are better able to resist insect attack.

Ways to get rid of these harmful insects There are many - from easy-to-use folk remedies to chemical ones that will help save plantings in severe cases.

For peppers growing outdoors, you can use chemical methods processing. It is better to use houses for seedlings traditional methods aphid control, organic preparations or biological methods. Any technique can be used to kill aphids on peppers in a greenhouse.

In all cases, the bushes are treated in the evening, in the absence of rain and wind. Severely affected leaves are carefully trimmed and burned before work begins.

Treatment with folk remedies

During flowering and during fruit formation, preference is given to folk methods treating peppers against aphids. But most of these products destroy adult individuals, but do not harm egg laying.

A one-time treatment is not enough. It will take at least 4-5 procedures to completely get rid of aphids.

Folk remedies are also suitable for treating pepper seedlings.

While there are very few insects, you can wash them off the leaves cold water from a hose or remove from the leaves by hand.

Ready-made preparations for controlling aphids

If use folk recipes did not bring success, ready-made drugs are used.

They treat pepper plantings on outdoors(in the greenhouse - from open door) and long before harvesting the fruits.

Some products can be used at home for seedlings, but this must be indicated on the packaging. They act strictly according to the instructions: they strictly fulfill the requirements for the concentration of the drug and the frequency of spraying.

Such formulations are very effective, often just one treatment helps.

Due to the fact that aphids get used to chemicals and stop responding to treatment, the products need to be alternated.

When working with such materials, be sure to use protective equipment: wear a hat, trousers and a long-sleeved shirt. The eyes are covered with goggles, and the respiratory organs are covered with a mask or respirator.

When processing seedlings on the balcony, you can cover the peppers tightly plastic bag, and spray the substance under it. The hole through which the spraying was carried out is tightly covered. The sprouts are left in this position for a day.

Insecticides based on:

  • synthetic pyrethroids - analogues of natural pyrethroids found in Dalmatian chamomile flowers;
  • organophosphorus compounds that have a nerve-paralytic effect;
  • neonicotinoids - very toxic to insects.

These are the following drugs:

  • "Aktara";
  • "Alatar";
  • "Decis";
  • "Kinmiks";
  • "Arrivo";
  • "Inta-Vir";
  • "Doctor";
  • "Fury";
  • "Karbofos";
  • "Fufanon";
  • "Aktellik";
  • "Spark";
  • "Tanrek".

The product “Pepper Rescuer” helps against all diseases and many pests; it affects both adults and larvae. Insects do not get used to it; plants can be treated with this drug repeatedly.

Biological products (products produced from plant materials) are less dangerous for people and animals:

  • "Aktofit";
  • "Fitoverm-M";
  • "Akarin";
  • "Gamair";
  • "Fitosporin-M";
  • "Phytocide".

There are many other biological drugs. They not only destroy aphids and other pests on peppers, but also feed them. This makes the plants strong and able to resist infection.

When purchasing, you should make sure that the product is intended for treating garden crops.

Solutions prepared for treatment are not stored in diluted form. Many drugs are dangerous to bees and other beneficial insects.

How to prevent infection - preventive measures

It is much easier to prevent the appearance of aphids in the beds with peppers than to fight them when they multiply greatly and begin to destroy the plantings.

The basis of prevention is correct agricultural technology:

  • use of healthy planting material;
  • disinfection of seeds before planting;
  • illumination of seedlings;
  • planting young shoots in a lighted place;
  • placing beds of peppers next to onions and garlic;
  • Regular watering without drying out or waterlogging the soil.

Very important:

  • preliminary fumigation of greenhouses and greenhouses with sulfur bombs;
  • using high-quality soil for seedlings and disinfecting the soil on the site with potassium permanganate, lime, caustic soda or bleach;
  • fighting ants;
  • dusting the soil with ash.

For preventive treatment of plantings, you can use herbal infusions. In the holes when transplanting seedlings to permanent place It is useful to put onion peels.

Aphids have natural enemies: birds and insects. They can stop significant spread of pests in open beds.

Small birds are attracted to the site: tits, sparrows, linnets, and wrens. Birdhouses are built for them, drinking bowls and feeders are made.

Aphids are actively eaten by lacewings, ichneumon beetles, ladybugs, wasps, crickets, earwigs, and hoverflies. They are attracted by the smells of herbs: mint, lavender, basil, coriander. Marigolds, nettles, fennel, chamomile, and celery have a similar effect. Such aromas repel the aphids themselves, so it is worth planting these plants near sweet peppers.

Bulgarian sweet peppers have long moved from the southern regions to the middle zone and have become a popular crop in our country. It is grown almost everywhere. And if it is not possible to get the harvest “in the open air,” then greenhouse sweet fruits are obtained in Siberia. Therefore, the question of pest control on this plant is of interest to many today. We will tell you in the article why aphids appear on peppers and how to fight them using chemical and folk methods.

The underside of the leaf is inhabited by a colony of aphids. Adults and their larvae are visible. Using their proboscis, they suck the juice from the leaves, causing them to wither and die.

You can detect the appearance of “uninvited guests” on pepper by looking closely at the culture:

  • noticeable curling and wilting of the leaf blade;
  • if these are young peppers, then the seedlings will wilt;
  • the leaf becomes sticky due to the sweet honeydew secreted by aphids;
  • a characteristic shine is visible on the leaf blade;
  • on the reverse side of the leaf small, green insects and their larvae are visible;
  • there are many ants on the stem. Ants “feast” on the sweet honeydew (honeydew) secreted by aphids. They guard the colony and monitor the number of individuals.

Causes of the pest

To understand the reasons for the appearance, you need to know the life cycle of the insect.

The ants “milk” the aphid colony by consuming the sweet honeydew. They monitor the colony and its increase in numbers.

Benefits of chemicals

Controlling aphids is not easy, as they multiply quickly. Therefore, many gardeners try to immediately destroy aphids using chemical methods. This is the most effective way. Modern means have contact, intestinal or joint action. Let's look at the most effective of them:

Before using the drug, carefully read the instructions. Carry out the treatment in the evening, when there is no wind. Rain will quickly wash away the drug, so watch the weather. Use a special sprayer and personal protective equipment. "

Tip # 1.

There are also special biological preparations. They contain extracts from plants and herbs. These are high-quality and harmless drugs of the new generation. Help against aphids:

  • Akarin (actophyte): the basis is natural components produced by soil fungi. Is neurotoxic. The dose depends on the type of pest. Soap is added to the solution for better contact.
  • Fitoverm: the active ingredient is obtained from a soil fungus. The dose depends on the crop being treated. On days 5-7 the pests die.
  • Boverin: based on fungal spores. Used for indoor plants. A 1% solution is prepared, treatment temperature is 20-25C.

You cannot treat with pesticides if you use living organisms to combat aphids. Pesticides cannot be used during the budding phase, the period of fruit ripening. But biological preparations can be used throughout the growing season.

The list of these methods is not so long, and they are not the most effective:

  1. Disinfection of seeds and soil.
  2. Tillage of the soil on the site: weeding and digging. "
  3. Reducing the number of ants. The fewer ants, the faster the aphids will disappear.
  4. Manual collection of the pest and its destruction (crushed on the lower surface of the leaf blade).
  5. Rinse the peppers with a stream of cold water, which renders the insects immobile. Once on the ground, they cannot return to the plant, which leads to their death.

Using the pressure of cold water, you can wash the pest to the ground. He becomes motionless and dies. The method only partially helps to get rid of aphids.

Tip #2. Disinfection of seeds and the soil in which they will be planted is also necessary to combat bacterial and fungal diseases. This technique must be used.

Below are other popular ways to control aphids:

Name of the infusion Cooking method
tobacco infusion Use 500 g of tobacco, 30-40 g of laundry soap per 20 liters of water. Tobacco leaves are infused in 10 liters of warm water for 2-3 days. The solution is filtered and the remaining water is added. Laundry soap is mixed well with the solution.
infusion of yarrow Take 700-800 g of yarrow, 40 g of laundry soap and 10 liters of water. The grass is poured with boiling water and allowed to stand for several days. Then soap is added and diluted in it.
use of ash Use 3 cups of ash, 40 g of laundry soap, 10 liters of water. Ash and grated soap are diluted in warm water. Let it brew for two days. Using this recipe will not only get rid of aphids, but will also work as foliar feeding.
tomato tops Take 5 kg of green leaves, add 10 liters of hot water and boil for 30 minutes. Prepare the solution in the required proportions: for 1 liter of decoction – 3 liters of water. Soap is added before use.
hot chilli pepper 100 g of fresh pods are boiled in 1 liter of water, allowed to brew for 2 days, and filtered. The resulting concentrated solution is diluted 1:10.
