This time, Valve corporation gave invitations to only 6 teams. These are the teams that achieved the best possible results throughout the year after the previous International. The rest had to go through a sieve of merciless qualifications. At first these were open qualifications, where all interested teams could submit their applications. The winners advanced to closed qualifiers. There, the games took place in four regions: China, Europe, America and Southeast Asia.

Qualification in China.

The unconditional victory here was won by Wings Gaming, who were not considered favorites next to such giants of the Chinese dota scene as EHOME, Vici Gaming, CDEC and Invictus Gaming. Four teams competed in the playoffs, and Vici Gaming Reborn got a slot in the main draw of the competition and EHOME in the wild-card.

Qualification in Southeast Asia.

Fnatic did not receive a direct invitation to the International and were therefore favorites for these Asian qualifiers. But they only managed to make it through the playoffs, and in the group TnC Pro Gaming scored the most wins. The wild card slot was given to the Filipinos from Execration.

Qualification in America.

In this region, in fact, there was only one intrigue - which of the favorites would get into the wild card, and who would go directly to the International. As a result, of the three top teams, Evil Geniuses and Digital Chaos were directly included, and compLexity will go to the wild card.

Qualification in Europe.

For dessert, there was the European qualification, the most confusing and interesting for us, since there are many CIS teams there. The format of the tournament meant that everything would be on the edge. And so it happened - there were many replays for 1st place, the winners of which were Team Secret. Unfortunately, a large number of CIS teams did not improve in quality, only Fantastic Five were able to show a decent game, reaching the playoffs.

But their strength dried up, and they lost first to Ad Finem, and then to Escape Gaming. As a result, the Swedes from Alliance entered directly, and the European team Escape will participate in the wild card.

International Dota 2 2016: Schedule

Will appear closer to the tournament.

The exact date for The International 2016 has been announced, plus some organizational details

The new esports year 2016 is already in full swing, the winter tournament Warface Open Cup 2016 has died down, and the finals of the Wargaming.net League 2016 are planned to be held in April. Meanwhile, the exact date of one of the most important cyber tournaments of our time - The International 2016 in the gaming discipline Dota 2 - has become known.

The International 2016 will be held from August 8 to 13, as officially announced by Valve

In addition, many details regarding this event are already known. Last year's complex was chosen as the venue KeyArena, which is located in Seattle (Washington, USA). The opening of qualifying games will begin on June 21, regional battles will start on June 25.

As for the event itself for visitors, tickets will be available to order starting on April 7th. There will be 2 types of tickets. First for 75$ gives you the opportunity to attend this competition as a spectator for 4 days in a row, from August 8 to 11.

Second type of tickets for 100$ , allows you to witness with your own eyes the final battles for the title of champion and the closing ceremony on the 12th and 13th, which will undoubtedly be a truly grandiose event. Presence throughout the event can be paid for immediately by ordering and paying for tickets online at Ticketmaster.com.

By the way, those who purchased a ticket for the first 4 days, but did not buy them for the final stage, will be able to watch it completely free of charge on a special observation deck near the KeyArena center, designed just for this event.

Interestingly, Valve will encourage Dota 2 players who attended this tournament. They will be able to receive gift items in the game

Let us remind you that the prize money for the Dota 2 discipline is the largest in the world. Last year's tournament brought together record $18 million, the organizers of this event believe that this year the total amount could reach 20 million (the accumulation of money comes from players from all over the world).

No matter what anyone says, it was Dota that made e-sports popular all over the world. The upcoming The International 2016 promises to be simply a grandiose event, fortunately the growth limit has not yet been reached.

On the night of August 13-14, the last match of The International 6, still the most lucrative eSports tournament in the world, died down. Sixteen teams from all over the world competed for a total prize fund of twenty million dollars.

After a week of intense and incredibly beautiful battles in the playoffs, the winner was determined. According to good tradition, in even-numbered years the International Cup was won by a Chinese team: in 2012 - Invictus Gaming, in 2014 - NewBee. This year was no exception.

The main thing: this is a tournament in which dark horses ruled the roost

Turning and unpredictable moments happened more often at this The International than at any previous one. The first day of the playoffs began with surprises: the Koreans from MVP Phoenix, in a confident game, threw the tournament favorites OG into the lower bracket. Of course, much was expected from MVP; they gained strength with each new tournament and came to The International, perhaps in their best form. But to bring two-time major champions to their knees so easily and effortlessly?

Game 1 of the Playoffs: MVP Phoenix selects five melee heroes for his team. Koreans have their own Dota.

The best moments of the fourth and fifth days.

For fans from the CIS, the first day turned out to be sad. After an unsuccessful group stage, the Na’Vi team, which had almost completely renewed its roster, found itself in the lower bracket, where they were only one defeat away from being eliminated from the tournament. Unfortunately, Na’Vi was unable to oppose the European team Team Liquid and left the tournament, finishing 13-16.

The second day turned out to be the last for OG. The team, which, according to most analysts and bookmakers, should have taken first place, lost to the TnC team - dark horses from Southeast Asia, who qualified for The International through open qualifiers. This victory shocked not only the spectators, but also TnC itself: such unbridled joy had never been seen at the tournament.

A moment from the longest and certainly one of the most spectacular matches of the tournament - Evil Geniuses vs. EHOME.

From that moment on, The International 6 began the time for teams that few people bet on. The young Chinese team Wings Gaming had long shown promise of a good game, but it was wild to see how easily the team advanced through the upper bracket to the grand final, defeating MVP Phoenix and past champions of The International - Evil Geniuses along the way.

The losers' bracket (lower) was ruled by the Malaysian Fnatic and the American Digital Chaos, where Ukrainian player Roman "Resolut1on" Fominok played. And if Fnatic sometimes showed a decent game even before the tournament (although the results varied greatly from moment to moment), then Digital Chaos generally jumped two, three or four heads above expectations. They kicked out the strongest Chinese teams LGD and EHOME from the tournament, and then Fnatic themselves. In the finals of the lower bracket, Digital Chaos accomplished another feat and defeated the titan of the American Dota, Evil Geniuses, in a very tense game.

In the grand final, Digital Chaos awaited Wings Gaming - but the young Chinese team turned out to be indomitable. Wings Gaming won with a score of 3:1, won more than nine million dollars and took the sixth Aegis.

Dota 2 is at its best this year

According to many professional players, the current patch is the best balanced in the entire history of the game. In past years, teams have tried to stick to one tactic that works, whether it's going late in the game and winning through fattened carries, or playing aggressively and taking down opponent's towers early. This time, each team could afford to choose something different - there were much more effective strategies than at previous TIs. Some games lasted for an hour or more (such as EHOME vs. EG - 75 minutes), others ended in 18 minutes (NewBee vs. Team Liquid).

This year, Valve used augmented reality to represent the heroes. Sometimes these heroes also danced.

The same goes for heroes. The teams were not limited in their choice and during the group stage alone they used 100 heroes out of 111 available. From the pool of forgotten heroes, to the delight of the audience, Mirana and Shadow Demon returned - and became one of the most popular at the tournament. Moreover, Mirana changed her role from a support hero to the role of a “mid” and “carry”. All thanks to the latest addition, which gave her a new ability after purchasing Aghanim’s Scepter and made her a good attacking force.

Shadow Demon came as a surprise to many after being completely ignored for a long time. This time, the teams regularly took him in almost every game, because, firstly, he goes well with the same Mirana, and secondly, the balance patch slightly strengthened the hero, improving, among other things, his ability to create illusions of heroes. This is important because playing through illusions turned out to be one of the most popular tactics at this tournament.

What about the show?

This year The International 2016 pleased the audience not only with beautiful matches, but also with a high-quality show. The tournament was opened by violinist Lindsey Stirling, and in the last days of the playoffs they held an all-star match, where ordinary fans from the stands had the opportunity to play one match in a team with their favorite e-sportsmen.

But these are minor things. On the same day, Valve finally announced the release of a new hero - Underlord (aka Pit Lord according to old documents), which players have been waiting for for a year, or even more. Later, a new global update and event was announced, including another newcomer - the Monkey King, Monkey King (who said "Wukong"?). All this will happen in the fall.

Monkey King is the first new hero who was not in the original DotA All-Stars. I wonder what they will teach him?

What's next? The International will be continued by two Major tournaments, and the space between them, as usual, will be filled by an endless series of smaller competitions. Well, in a year it will be time to take stock again in Seattle.

A few minutes ago, the final match of the main tournament of the season in American Seattle ended. In the decisive match in the best-of-three series, the American team Digital Chaos and representatives of the Celestial Empire Wings Gaming met.

Let us remember that earlier several favorites dropped out of the tournament and were predicted to have a place in the finals. The only representatives of the CIS were among the first to leave the tournament. Natus Vincere, as well as champions Shanghai Major Team Secret and one of the strongest teams in the Celestial Empire Vici Gaming Reborn.

The tournament also ended unexpectedly early for two other Chinese teams NewBee And LGD Gaming, as well as the main contenders for the world championship from Team OG. Also, as expected, they failed to make it into the top eight. The Alliance And Escape Gaming.

On the contrary, the teams from the SEA region surprised experts and spectators: all three representatives of the Asian scene entered the top eight So, TnC Gaming led by an eSports veteran DeMoN were able to take 7-8 place, knocking them out of the tournament O.G., Koreans from MVP.Phoenix again chose the 5-6th line, and Fnatic climbed to last place in the top four.

Teams left the event surprisingly early EHOME And Team Liquid. The first were able to advance to the main stage from wild-card, but showed themselves excellently at the tournament itself, but did not reach the final battles. Europeans are from Liquid were among the favorites of the tournament, but could not get through the thorns of the lower bracket to the stars.

Three teams continued for the championship on the final day: the defending champions Evil Geniuses fought with other representatives of the American scene from Digital Chaos for the right to play in the grand final with the last Chinese team Wings Gaming. In the first game, Rasmus Phillipsen's team quite confidently and brilliantly outplayed their opponent in 35 minutes: after a glimpse of a good game in the opening, the “evil geniuses” were unable to show anything and decided to give up.

The second game pleased with an unexpected peak in the penultimate match the pick was finally made. It's all the more interesting that DC.w33 played him on the center line, but this did not bring success to the team. The tactics intended for early dominance were not carried out, and five of them Evil Geniuses managed to drag out the game to the point where Sven there was no chance left.

The decisive meeting between the American teams turned out to be the most cautious: both teams clearly did not want to leave the tournament before the super final and tried to show their maximum capabilities. After the start of active actions, the game acquired a bright character, but we still turned out to be a little more skilled Digital Chaos.

The final The International 2016 started two hours late, which turned out to be beneficial DC: The guys got a chance to rest at least a little after an exhausting match with the ex-champions before the main game of the season. It is all the more surprising that the tired players of the American team simply had a great time in the first game and the second confrontation. Both teams surprised with their picks in the series debut - on Pudge from Wings The Western team responded with another interesting hero on the center line: .

However, after this experiment, it became much more difficult for the “winged” to play: and if on the second map the guys from DC almost didn’t show, then they lost the third game quite quickly, and in the last confrontation they made too many mistakes and could not jump above their heads. Thus, Digital Chaos remain second, and the champion title again, following the even-year rule, goes to the Celestial Empire.
