Today it is impossible to imagine land plot without spicy culture. Parsley is a universal plant that is used for culinary, medicinal and cosmetic purposes. But growing a plant is often accompanied by unforeseen circumstances, such as poor germination of planting material. To ensure that parsley sprouts quickly, gardeners use different methods, which accelerate germination by 4-5 days.

How long does it take for parsley to sprout after sowing?

Germination of spice plant seeds is a long process. Gardeners are always interested in how many days it will take for greenery to appear. Germination of parsley varieties can take 15-20 days, or even more:

  • Bogatyr ─ emerges in 15-20 days. Harvest in 65-75 days.
  • Hamburger ─ leaf parsley. Shoots appear after 15-20 days, and harvesting occurs after 90 days.
  • Carnival ─ the period from germination to harvest is 60 days. Emerges on the 15-20th day.

Shoots appear in 2-3 weeks in almost all varieties. The difference lies in the time of harvest.

Germination is affected by the quality of the seed. Even in class I, germination of seedlings is observed at only 60-70%, and in class II, germination is even less, only 30-40%. In the open light soil the seeds are sown to a depth of no more than 2-2.5 cm, and if the soil is heavy and still needs to be mulched after sowing, the material is sown shallowly, 1-1.5 cm. The seeds rise slowly and for a long time at t + 2-3˚С , and seedlings can withstand -7-9˚С. In order for parsley to sprout in 20-25 days, the grooves are carefully shed warm water+38-40˚С. It grows faster if the seeds are soaked. Then the sprouts can be seen on the 15-20th day.

Why don't shoots appear?

The spicy plant belongs to the Celery (umbrella) family; the seeds have a coating of essential oils. It makes it difficult for moisture to penetrate the material. This is why parsley does not sprout, and the sprouting shoots above the ground appear slowly or may not hatch at all. Experienced gardeners able to determine what needs to be done, these may be different circumstances.

To avoid doubts about the quality of planting material, you need to purchase from trusted manufacturers and pay attention to the expiration date.

Ways to speed up germination

Fast-growing seeds do not need additional stimulation. This applies to tomatoes, cucumbers, peas, and beans. They do not need to be germinated before planting, as they quickly sprout in 3-5 days. Parsley, pepper, and eggplant can be classified as “long-term” cultivated plants. They can be in the soil and not show shoots for 2 weeks. Therefore, gardeners have to think about how to grow parsley from seeds as quickly as possible.

To speed up germination, many gardeners use the wet wipe method. Planting material is wrapped in it, placed in a warm, dark place and after 3-4 days you can see sprouts. Then the napkin with the shoots is placed in the refrigerator for hardening for 5-7 days. This is done so that after planting in open ground they can withstand the spring cold. This simple method will allow parsley to germinate quickly.

Soaking parsley seeds before planting

Preparation of planting material promotes rapid germination. Basic methods of soaking seeds:

  • Vodka. It is known that grains herbs are in a protective ethereal film, which delays their germination in the soil. With the help of alcohol, the shell dissolves. You need to put the seeds in a napkin soaked in vodka for 15-20 minutes, then rinse under running water, dry and begin adding to the soil. Thus, soaking the grains before planting will speed up the germination of the spice.
  • Water. Place the seed in water overnight, and the next morning it is ready to be planted in the substrate.
  • Milk. This method will produce strong, tall and juicy shoots. Soak the seeds in milk for 30 minutes and then plant them in a prepared seedling container. The wet soil should be sprinkled with quicklime three times every 15-20 minutes.
  • Growth stimulator. Zircon, epin, humate ─ biologically active substances, they are used before soaking the seeds in water. They regulate growth and root formation processes, and also make plants disease resistant.

To get quick shoots, the gardener needs to carefully inspect all planting material and throw away low-quality, moldy and destroyed specimens.

Pre-germination

There are 6 known methods that contribute to accelerated germination spicy plant. To do this you need:

  • Soak the seeds in water. Every 4-6 hours, change to warm water at +20-25˚C. Leave until the seeds hatch for the first time. Place on a damp cloth and cover plastic film, and on top with a dry cloth.
  • In a soapy solution. Dissolve 2 tbsp in 200 g of warm water. l of soap and put the material in it for 1 hour. Rinse and immerse in water at +40˚C for 24 hours. They will become soft and ready to sow.
  • To remove the coating from essential oils, you need to put the seed in hot water or vodka for 10-15 minutes.
  • Soak the seeds in milk until softened, dry, plant in beds sprinkled with quicklime.
  • Vernalization. Planting material in a fabric bag is buried in the ground for 2 weeks. Before sowing, it is taken out, laid out, dried and sown in furrows.
  • Bubbling. For this method, an aquarium compressor is used. A small amount of water is poured into the container, the grains are poured out, the compressor is lowered, turning it on for 18-24 hours. Moving in the flow, the seeds are filled with oxygen and shed some of their shell of essential oils. Dried grains can be added to the ground.

Using one of the proposed germination methods, you can achieve fast germination seed material.

Agrotechnical techniques for accelerated emergence of seedlings

Parsley is a biennial cultivated plant. There are two known types of it: root and leaf. The agricultural technology for growing root parsley does not require much care. She loves fertile sandy, slightly loamy, loose soils. During planting, add urea 13-18 g/1 m² to avoid the appearance large quantity lateral roots. Superphosphate 40-50 g/1 m², ammonium sulfate 40-50 g/1 m² and potassium sulfide 20-30 g/1 m² are also added.

Before sowing, the seeds must be properly soaked for 3-5 days in warm water at t +35-40˚C, and then place on a napkin or wet sawdust.

If you use sawdust, you must first pour boiling water over it and treat it boric acid per 1 liter of water 0.1-0.2 g. Sprouted grains are added to the prepared soil. The first shoots will appear in 15-20 days. It is also customary to pre-soak leaf parsley in water, milk, or vodka.

Sowing technology

Methods of preliminary preparation of planting material accelerate the germination of the plant. For winter application, it is not recommended to soak the material, but to sow it dry to a depth of 1.5-2 cm if the soil is loamy or sandy loam. On a peat bog, seeds are sown to a depth of 3-3.5 cm. The distance between rows is 20-30 cm, and between sprouts 8-10 cm. If you sow leaf parsley in the ground before winter, it must be covered with any material to avoid freezing and keep it alive until spring. To obtain young greenery, plant growers advise using the conveyor method for planting - sowing every 2-3 weeks until autumn.

Sowing technology:

  1. For spring sowing, the beds are prepared in the fall. They contribute organic matter(peat, manure, compost, green manure) and mineral (sulfate, potassium, urea, ammonium nitrate, superphosphate). In spring you can feed it with urea.
  2. Soak the seeds in a 0.2% solution of potassium permanganate or warm water for 6-8 hours. Then put in a damp cloth and leave until germination. To speed up the process, a napkin can be soaked in milk for 3-4 hours and then placed in 0.2% potassium permanganate.
  3. Sow the sprouted grains into the prepared furrows, cover with 1-1.5 cm of soil, compact well, and mulch the soil with humus.

The first shoots will appear in 10-15 days, and dry ones will emerge 7-10 days later than soaked ones.

Creating a greenhouse effect in the garden

Every gardener wants to achieve quick germination cultivated plants and resorts to various tricks. To make parsley seeds germinate faster and the soil long time retains moisture, the bed is covered with transparent plastic film, which creates a greenhouse effect. This will eliminate the need for daily irrigation of the substrate with a spray bottle. Seeds can be covered with non-woven agrotextile ─ spunbond, which is made of polypropylene.

Parsley ─ unpretentious two-year-old spicy plant. It does not require special care, but simple recommendations will help speed up the process of seed germination and get high-quality, fragrant, healthy greens.

I plant greens all the time, but all this time the thought never left me - how to plant parsley so that it sprouts quickly. After trying several options, I found a way in which the germination of the plant increases without loss of yield. Now thick and fragrant parsley is constantly growing in my beds.

Reasons for slow germination of parsley

To get real high yield Parsley needs well-fertilized soil. Photo: eda-land.ru
  1. Natural cause. Parsley is a spicy crop, it contains a lot of essential oils and all this richness in solid form envelops the seeds. To speed up germination, the shell must collapse, so everything existing methods accelerations are based on the removal of this obstacle.
  2. Varietal restrictions. To germinate parsley seeds that have not undergone preparation, it takes from 15 to 25 days. The time depends on the variety, so early parsley such as Bogatyr or Astra ripens in 60 days, mid-season parsley, such as Breeze and Katyusha, in 70 days. Late Rialto type in 90 days. The longer the ripening period, the later the plant emerges.
  3. Deep landing. Regardless of the variety, open ground You cannot bury seeds deeper than 2 cm, I recommend 1 cm. It is difficult for the plant to break through from a great depth.
  4. Rejected seeds. The shelf life of planting material is 3 years, but the next year after collection, 80–90% of the seeds will sprout, a year later 50–70%, and in the third year germination does not exceed 40%.
  5. Errors in agricultural technology. If you do not prepare the bed, the weeds will choke the seedlings. If you do not spill the soil with an antiseptic, the seedlings will be eaten by pests or they will die from disease. Plus, parsley needs regular weeding, watering, and fertilizing with nitrogen, potassium phosphate and mineral fertilizers.

The video shows in detail how to sow parsley seeds in a garden bed in open ground and get quick shoots from them.

Seed preparation methods

Soaking seeds in vodka
  1. Alcohols dissolve oils quite easily, so preparing seeds by soaking them in alcohol-containing solutions can overcome the protective cocoon.
  2. Solutions based on medical alcohol no stronger than 45° are used. Pure alcohol will simply burn the seed, but alternative alcohols can be poisonous.
  3. The seeds are placed in the solution for 10–15 minutes, after which they are washed and dried.
  4. At the finish, the seeds are infused for 12 hours in Epin or a similar nutrient solution
Soaking in milk
  1. Milk acts a little differently, the composition reacts with the shell and gradually softens it, plus it works as a nutritional mixture.
  2. Before soaking in milk, the seeds are kept in warm water for a day, after which they are sent into milk for another day.
  3. But milk method has a nuance, when planting seeds, you need to add a little lime to the open ground, it will reduce the acidity and become an additional impetus for the destruction of the protective shell.
  4. Keep in mind that only natural milk is taken, not pasteurized milk from the store.
Impact hot water
  1. Speech in in this case There is no boiling water involved, the temperature should be between 50 – 70°C.
  2. The seeds should be thrown into hot water, allowed to cool, but not removed, but left to steep for a day.
  3. Then change the water (without heating) and leave the seeds in it for another day.
  4. The last step is to soak the seeds with Epin for 12 hours, after which you can plant
Bubbling
  1. The seeds are infused in oxygen-enriched water. In artisanal conditions, for bubbling you will need an aquarium compressor with an air spray.
  2. Place the seeds in a linen bag.
  3. Tie this bag to the air sprayer.
  4. Lower the sprayer with the bag to the bottom of the jar of settled water and turn on the aquarium compressor.
  5. The seeds should be kept under water for 2 days in a constant flow of air bubbles.
  6. You can simply throw the seeds into water and then strain them through a sieve.

Important points in preparation

Types of parsley
  1. Leafy- this parsley taproot, powerful rosette and dense ground part. The leaves can be smooth or densely dissected (curly parsley). IN leaf varieties only tops are used.
  2. Root– visually not much different from sheet version, but here, in addition to the foliage, a powerful thick root develops, which is used in cooking along with the leaves

Predecessors
  1. Parsley is best planted after tomatoes, cucumbers, onions and garlic.
  2. You can alternate sowing onions and garlic with parsley.
  3. It is not advisable to plant parsley after carrots, caraway seeds and dill. They have common diseases and a similar diet

Preparing the bed in the fall
  1. Parsley likes it loose fertile soil. If you have black soil, then add a little baking powder (sand, perlite, etc.).
  2. Humus (a bucket per 1 m²), neutral peat (0.5 buckets per 1 m²) and baking powder are added to dense loam.
  3. A bucket of humus and Sapropel are added to the sandstone (in the absence of Sapropel, high-moor peat can be used)

Preparing the bed in spring
  1. In early spring, 2 weeks before planting the seeds, the bed should be well watered Bordeaux mixture (1 %).
  2. After disinfection with Bordeaux mixture, it is advisable to fertilize the soil with Nitroammophoska (30 g per 1 m²) or spill it with mullein with the addition of wood ash.
  3. The bed is dug up and thoroughly loosened

Planting in spring

Marking the beds
  1. In spring, parsley seeds are planted in the garden bed when the soil temperature rises to 6–8°C, in middle lane It's mid-April.
  2. According to the rules, you need to make grooves up to 2 cm deep. Between the rows I leave 20 - 25 cm, this makes weeding easier
Watering
  1. The grooves are shed abundantly with water, the ground should be wet by at least 10 - 15 cm, deep moisture is especially important for root parsley
Landing
  1. Place the seeds in the groove spilled with water. Try to plant at a distance of 1 – 2 cm.
  2. The seeds are sprinkled 1–2 cm with soil on top, but it is better to use vermicompost for these purposes, as the seeds germinate faster in it.
  3. Next, the soil needs to be slightly compacted with the palm of your hand and watered again.
  4. In April, there is still a high probability of return frosts; to protect the planting from the cold, the bed should be covered with polyethylene or white spunbond.
  5. 14 days after germination, it is advisable to feed the parsley with ash and complex fertilizer, for example Nitroammophoska (10 g per bucket)

Alternative planting methods

Planting in winter
  1. Winter parsley germinates better than spring parsley; over the winter the seeds undergo natural stratification, and in the spring, at the end of May, beginning of June, the first greens can be harvested.
  2. Plus, after cutting the first crop, you can also harvest the second one before autumn.
  3. It is planted in October 2 weeks before frost.
  4. The technology is similar, with the only difference that in the fall the seeds are buried 5 cm, and another layer of mulch 5–10 cm thick is poured on top.
  5. There is no need to prepare seeds in winter

Preparing seedlings
  1. For seedlings I take purchased flower soil and add a little perlite to it.
  2. Parsley is grown in wide containers. There is a drainage layer (expanded clay, perlite, sand) 1–2 cm below, and 5–7 cm of fertile soil on top.
  3. Don't forget to make drainage holes in the container
Growingseedlings
  1. Make grooves 1 cm deep in the soil, water them and plant the seeds.
  2. Then cover the container with film and place it on the windowsill, the temperature should be 20 - 25°C. As soon as the sprouts appear, the film is removed.
  3. The prepared seed germinates in a maximum of 2 weeks; seedlings need another 2 weeks to grow.
  4. With the onset of stable warmth, transplant the parsley bushes to the garden bed

Diseases and pests

Powdery mildew

Symptoms:

  1. On lower leaves parsley appears white coating, which over time takes over the entire plant and darkens.

Treatment:

  1. A solution of wood ash with the addition of laundry soap helps.
  2. Fungicides you can use are Kvardis or Fundazima.

Cercosporiosis

Symptoms:

  1. One of the forms of spotting. Yellow-brown spots appear on the foliage different sizes. Gradually, the disease takes over the stems. The plant looks depressed and is growing slowly.

Treatment:

  1. Treat with Bordeaux mixture 3%

carrot psyllid

Symptoms:

  1. A small flying insect of light green color. The psyllid larvae are dangerous; they feed on sap. garden crops. Externally, parsley stops developing and withers.

Treatment:

  1. Treat with tobacco tincture and laundry soap.
  2. Chemicals used include Tsimbush, Actellik or Sumicidin.

Parsley seedlings in the photo

Parsley is a biennial plant that no garden can do without. Growing parsley from seeds often causes some difficulties for gardeners - the planting material germinates poorly or does not germinate at all. Root and leaf varieties are grown in our gardens.

Parsley seeds take a long time to germinate - 15-20 days. This is due to the fact that they are covered with essential oils, which prevent germination, prevent the seed coat from getting wet, and do not allow moisture inside.

There are several ways to prepare parsley seeds for planting to speed up germination.

  1. After sowing, cover the beds with film to keep the soil moist. Do not remove the shelter until the sprouts appear from the ground. If you keep the beds moist throughout the 15-20 days required for germination, then soaking the parsley seeds before sowing is not necessary.
  2. You can speed up germination by soaking the seeds in water overnight before planting. Water practically does not dissolve the oil on the surface of the seeds. Therefore, before soaking, you should pour hot water (not boiling water) over the parsley seeds to wash off essential oils from their surface.
  3. You can soak parsley seeds in vodka before planting, since essential oils dissolve in alcohol-containing solutions. Pour a little vodka into the bottom of the saucer. Then sprinkle the seeds onto a small piece of wide gauze bandage. Dip parsley seeds on gauze in vodka and leave for 15-20 minutes. You can't do it any longer - you could burn the seeds. Then lift the bandage with the seeds and rinse under running water. It is necessary to rinse. Then dry the seeds. That's it - the parsley seeds are ready for sowing. This method of seed treatment allows them to germinate twice as fast.
  4. To speed up germination, the seeds are washed in warm water and then soaked for a day to swell. You can add 1 tbsp to the water. spoon of wood ash per 1 liter of water.
  5. Pour the dry seeds into a cloth bag and bury them in the garden in damp, unheated soil to the depth of a spade. This is done about two weeks before sowing. Before sowing, take out the seeds, spread them on paper, dry until they crumble and sow. Seeds prepared in this way germinate in 4-5 days.
  6. Soaking seeds in an infusion of wood ash. For this, 2 tbsp. Place spoons of ash in a liter jar, fill it completely with warm water and leave for 2 days, stirring occasionally. Then the resulting infusion is carefully drained, the seeds are immersed in it in a gauze bag and kept in it for 4-5 hours.
  7. Many of us grow herbs for the table on a windowsill or balcony. Prepare a container with soil, moisten it, sprinkle the soil with quicklime three times every 10-15 minutes. Sow parsley seeds pre-soaked in milk. The seeds will sprout in three hours. The room should be warm, not lower than 20 °C.

Planting parsley seeds for growing in open ground

To provide parsley seeds for a personal garden, 3-5 plants are enough, therefore, having bought parsley seeds once and sowed them, you can provide for yourself in the future planting material on one's own.

Planting parsley seeds is done in early spring at the rate of 1 g of seeds per 1 m2 to a depth of 1-1.5 cm. Sow the seeds in rows with a distance between them of 45 cm, the distance between plants is 6-8 cm. After 15-20 days, when shoots appear, the parsley is thinned out, leaving one plant for every 20 cm. When growing parsley from seeds in open ground, when 2-3 true leaves appear, the plants are fed the first time, after 2-3 weeks - a second time.

You need to choose two or three good, strong plants and leave them to grow all summer. In the fall, they need to be mulched with dry peat, sawdust, humus and left to overwinter in the soil. At the beginning of next summer these seed plants form a flower stem. Before flowering, plants intended for seeds are fed with superphosphate and potassium salt at the rate of 15-20 g of each fertilizer per 1 m2. Parsley blooms for 30-40 days, after which seeds form.

When the seeds ripen, they fall off easily, so you need to cut off the umbrellas with seeds carefully. Cut umbrellas are dried in a ventilated area, the seeds are removed and stored warm.

Gardeners know that germinating parsley in the ground can take 20 days or longer. Only in a practical way can you find out how good the seeds were - some may not appear at all, leaving the summer resident with his nose. Experienced gardeners use several methods to achieve 3-5 times. Depending on the climate, after 4-5 days (and sometimes 3 days), the beds will be covered with delicate greenery.

Step-by-step instructions on what to do for germination

How to plant parsley, what to do so that it germinates quickly?

Parsley seeds contain a supply of essential oils, to which the plant owes its fragrant aroma and specific strong taste. Oils retain moisture and inhibit seed growth. In order for the process to proceed quickly, the ethereal shell must be depleted.

Preliminary soil preparation

If the preparation of the bed begins in the spring, the soil is fertilized before planting. To saturate the soil you can use:

  • ammonium nitrate(from 35 to 50 g per 1 sq. m. of depleted soil; from 20 to 30 g. per 1 sq. m. of cultivated soil) - strengthens plant immunity and replenishes nitrogen deficiency in the soil;
  • superphosphate(from 20 to 40 g per 1 sq. m.) - strengthens the sprouts and protects them from diseases;
  • potassium salt(20 g per 1 sq. m.) - will retain moisture in the soil, improve immunity and resistance of sprouts to cold).

The soil is fertilized in early spring so that it has time to become saturated with nutrients.

Before sowing, the bed is well loosened to a depth of 10-15 cm. To do solid ground soft and porous, dry humus, mulch or sand are added to it. This way it allows oxygen and moisture to pass through better, which creates suitable conditions for seeds.

Important follow the dosage according to the instructions - oversaturated soil can harm both plantings and people.

Material processing

  1. To remove essential oils, seeds are soaked in water 2 weeks before planting. room temperature for 48 hours. The water is changed at least 4 times. Otherwise, the oils will saturate it, and the effectiveness of the method will drop dramatically.
  2. Then the seeds are immersed in a growth stimulator (“Ecogel”, “Gumate”, “Epin” or similar, an infusion of aloe juice and ash is suitable) for 18 hours and dried. When using vermicompost for seedlings, they are soaked for 2 days (the concentrate and water are taken in a ratio of 1 to 20).

From the video you will learn how to germinate parsley seeds in Epin:

Landing

In order for the greens to quickly germinate and appear on the table, parsley is planted in the second half of April, when the temperature no longer drops below zero. Although she loves temperatures from +18 degrees, seeds can germinate at 1-5 degrees above zero.

Leafy varieties are planted in grooves up to 7 mm deep. To prevent plants from interfering with each other, the distance between rows is at least 4 cm. Plant at the rate of 0.5 g of seeds per 1 sq. m.

Root varieties are planted at a depth of up to 2 cm at a distance of up to 2-3 cm from each other in the same row and up to 12 cm between rows. The seeds are covered with soil and watered well. The soil should be kept moist, but not overdo it.

Fertilizers and growth stimulants

The leaf variety is often deficient in nitrogen fertilizers. It will be replenished ammonium nitrate, which is added at the rate of 5 g per 1 sq. m.

Root parsley needs potassium-phosphorus compounds. It is fertilized with superphosphate according to the instructions. Fertilizers are applied 2 times per season and loosen the soil at least 4 times.

Methods of stimulation

There are also tricks here that will speed up the appearance of fresh greens.

Hardening in the refrigerator

  1. Soak the seeds in warm water for 24 hours.
  2. Dry slightly so they don't stick together.
  3. Wrap in damp gauze material. Cotton pads will also work.
  4. On the 5-6th day, when the first greenery appears, place them directly in gauze in the refrigerator for 10-15 days at a temperature of 0 to 3 degrees.
  5. Transfer to a warm place and dry.

As a result, preparation will take 2-3 weeks, but parsley will hatch from the ground within 5 days after planting.

Burying a bag of seeds

  1. 2 weeks before sowing, dry seeds are poured into a fabric bag.
  2. The bag is buried in the ground that has not yet warmed up to the depth of a spade bayonet.
  3. After 1 week, the seeds are removed from the soil.
  4. Lay out on parchment paper and dry.
  5. Make sure that the seeds do not stick together during drying.

As with refrigerator hardening, alternating cold and warm environments will speed up growth. The seeds will sprout in 5 days.

Greenhouse effect

No time left to prepare? Nose landing? Germination can still be accelerated using thick greenhouse film, which will retain heat and moisture inside.

  1. Sow the seeds in a previously prepared and loosened bed.
  2. Cover the plantings with transparent film.
  3. Secure the film on all sides so that it fits tightly to the ground.
  4. Once a day in warm weather, open the film for 10 minutes to ventilate the bed.

Shoots appear within 10-13 days. When the sprouts have 4 leaves, remove the film completely.

What needs to be done for seedlings to appear in 3 days?

Germination time in open ground greatly depends on the quality of the seeds, variety, shelf life (they germinate better after 2-3 years), temperature, treatment before planting and the soil itself. That's why most quick results Planting already hatched seeds gives.

The usual 20-day period during which parsley seeds sprout in the garden can be reduced to 3-5 days. To do this, the seeds are soaked, hardened or heated with quicklime. Using these methods and sowing parsley 2 times a month, you can get a fresh harvest of greens until late autumn.

Previously it was not possible to get early greens parsley This capricious crop took a long time to germinate; its sprouts appeared a month after planting. Now I know how to sow parsley so that it sprouts quickly and produces large bunches of greenery. And I share these secrets with you.

Parsley is a perennial that is different long period germination. This is due to growth inhibitors, essential oils, which are found on every seed.

They do not let water in and block the swelling of the adhesive substance and the development of the sprout. In order for parsley shoots to appear faster, it is necessary to “remove” the essential oils from the surface of the seeds. How to do it?

Vodka, alcohol, cognac, and other alcoholic liquids dissolve any fats and oils. This ability is used when processing parsley seeds. They are soaked in vodka or diluted alcohol for 5-10 minutes. During this time, the oil inhibitors will dissolve, which will allow the seeds to quickly germinate when sowing parsley in open ground.

How to soak parsley seeds in vodka correctly?

  1. To soak small seeds, use linen bags, cotton fabric, and old handkerchiefs. The seeds are wrapped in cloth and tied into a knot, after which they are dipped into a cup or glass of vodka.
  2. You can keep the seeds in an alcohol solution for no longer than 10 minutes. So as not to “burn” their skin.
  3. After vodka, the seeds are washed under running water without removing them from the bag. It is necessary to rinse very thoroughly.

Treated seeds are ready for planting immediately after washing. Delay in planting, drying seeds after soaking in vodka, or soaking in an alcohol solution for too long can suppress germination. The seeds will not sprout.

Hydrogen peroxide for quick germination of parsley

Another pharmaceutical product, which helps dissolve inhibitors on the surface of the seeds is an antiseptic known as hydrogen peroxide.

To quickly soak the seeds, use a ready-made pharmaceutical concentrate, 3% peroxide. The seeds are soaked in it for 15-20 minutes. They also use a fabric bag. And also be sure to rinse thoroughly in running water.

The second option is soaking in a peroxide solution. To prepare the solution, dilute 1 tbsp. l. peroxide in 1 liter of water. The seeds are soaked in this solution for a day and then not washed. Planted in the ground without rinsing in water.

Lime for beds with parsley

Another product that is used to dissolve inhibitors on the surface of parsley seeds is quicklime, called “fluff”. It is applied to the soil before sowing. The seeds sown afterwards come into contact with lime, which quickly dissolves their shell.

What are the features of adding fluff lime to the soil:

  • Dry quicklime applied to the soil in the garden bed immediately before sowing the seeds.
  • To apply it to the soil, it is scattered over the surface of the earth and mixed with a rake. Embedding the fluff should not be deep. Considering the depth of seed placement is 1-2 cm, dry lime is also placed at a depth of 1-2 cm.
  • Seeds are sown dry without pre-soaking.

Note: in addition to accelerating seed germination, lime also supplies the soil with calcium. That is, is mineral fertilizer for garden crops.

How many days will it take for parsley to sprout?

Lime is sometimes advertised as a quick germination agent that will cause the seeds to sprout within 3 hours. It is not true. Parsley usually takes about a month to germinate. If you use dry lime, it will germinate in a few days.

Pre-soaking the seeds in vodka and peroxide also speeds up germination. Shoots may appear in 3-5 days if it is already warm, and in a week if the air is not yet warm enough.

Soaking seeds for faster germination

In addition to suppressing growth inhibitors, there are a number of factors that accelerate germination. The first is pre-soaking the seeds in a damp substrate.

Soaking the seeds lasts from 1 to 2 days. When the seed swells and a sprout appears, the seeds are sown in the soil. The planting bed is pre-watered to provide moisture to the sprouted seeds.

What is important to consider? “Hatched” seeds cannot stand drying out and require constant watering. If you “sprouted” parsley and planted it in dry soil, the sprouts will die. Germinated seeds should be planted in wet soil and water daily.

To preserve moisture, cover the bed with polyethylene or other transparent covering material until the first shoots appear.

How to soak parsley seeds?

  1. For rapid germination, before soaking, the seeds are treated with vodka or peroxide (as described in the previous section).
  2. A substrate is prepared, between the layers of which the treated seeds are placed. Sand, moss, or a porous sponge (washcloth) can be used as a substrate for the germination of small parsley seeds.
  3. The sponge or substrate is placed in a container or box. Fill with water so that the upper part of the substrate becomes wet, but is not covered with water.
  4. Seeds are laid out in one layer on a damp substrate. Cover them on top with a second layer of substrate.
  5. The container with the substrate is covered with a cotton cloth to retain moisture inside. Place in a warm place with an air temperature of about +20°C.

In a day upper layer lift the substrate and inspect the seeds. If there are any that have hatched, they are planted in the ground. If the seeds are swollen but do not hatch, leave them for another 12-24 hours.

Sow parsley in open ground

After treating the seeds with vodka/peroxide and germination, we begin planting the seeds in the garden. Planting technologies are as follows:

  • For planting, make small grooves up to 5 cm deep. The distance between the grooves is 20-25 cm.
  • Parsley seeds are placed in grooves. To prevent wet small seeds from “sticking” to your fingers, they are mixed with flour, dry sand or talcum powder. Talc and sand take away some of the moisture, so it will be more convenient to sow such seeds. The movements of your fingers when sowing are as if you are “salting” the bed with a mixture of sand and seeds.
  • The grooves are covered with earth to the top and watered with water. When watering, the soil settles in the grooves, forming depressions.

The soil is covered with polyethylene to preserve moisture. After the first shoots appear, the polyethylene is removed and the ground is covered with mulch.

Autumn and winter plantings

Quick spring shoots of parsley in spring can be achieved by autumn and winter planting.

Planting parsley in the fall

Autumn sowing of parsley begins after leaf fall, shortly before the onset of frost. Seeds are sown in beds to a depth of 5 cm and must be well mulched. They should swell, but not germinate.

The appearance of sprouts on the soil surface can cause parsley to “freeze” in winter. Young plant not ready for wintering, a seed can successfully overwinter - dry or slightly swollen, hatched.

Autumn planting of parsley allows the plant to form root system already at the beginning of spring. With the onset of warmth, such plantings produce friendly shoots and rapid greenery.

Planting parsley in winter

Parsley is a cold-loving crop. It can be sown even in winter. With one condition - the beds for winter sowing must be prepared in the fall. And the soil for sprinkling the seeds is collected in a bag and stored in the cellar.

How to plant parsley seeds in winter? At the end of winter, in February, snow is removed from the prepared beds. Dry, unsoaked seeds are sown in the recesses. Sprinkle them with prepared soil and cover them with snow on top.

During a month of “stratification” in frozen soil, growth inhibitors will be washed off from the surface of the seeds. In the spring, after warming, they will germinate together.

Let's summarize...

You can speed up the germination of parsley seeds by briefly soaking them in pharmaceutical peroxide or vodka. You can also add fluff lime to the soil. The seeds, of course, will not germinate in 3 hours. But they will rise faster, in three days. You can also soak the seeds in a damp substrate to speed up the germination of sprouts.
