First of all, it is not entirely clear what Mr. Kunkle means when he speaks of “a displacement of the earth’s axis due to major cataclysms.”

Scientists' calculations show that our planet is an extremely inert system and can quite actively resist external influences. Based on these calculations, it turns out that in order to “shift” the earth’s axis by at least 20 degrees (and this is the minimum displacement that will be at least somehow noticeable to all inhabitants of the planet), a celestial body flying at the speed of 100 kilometers per second and having a diameter of about 1000 kilometers (like the asteroid Ceres). However, such events have not happened on our planet for 4 billion years (although this could have happened earlier than this, as Pravda.Ru already wrote about in the article “Gold fell to Earth from the sky”).

If we're talking about only about the natural displacement of the earth’s axis, then this happens regularly, but, apparently, does not have a big impact either on the planet or on the signs of the zodiac. This happens because our planet, as is known, is not an ideal sphere: Earth slightly flattened from the poles.

In addition, the distribution of mass across the planet is heterogeneous, if only because part of its surface is made up of oceans, and part of it is continents.

As you remember, there is noticeably more land in the Northern Hemisphere than in the Southern, and less in the Western Hemisphere than in the Eastern. As a result, the Earth’s own axis is a kind of imaginary rod on which this inhomogeneous ball of the planet is “balanced,” and the real axis of rotation oscillates around it.

These fluctuations occur due to any redistribution of mass, such as melting glaciers, absorption of matter by ocean trenches, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, etc. However, they are very insignificant - it has been shown that the geographic axis of the Earth deviates from its axis of rotation at a speed of about 10 centimeters per year, that is, about one degree every one million years. So during the lifetime of mankind there have not been and cannot be any major displacements of the earth’s axis.

Now about the zodiac. It is known that this system of calculations in astrology arose approximately two thousand years ago. Astrologers divided the large circle of the celestial sphere - the ecliptic - into 12 equal parts of 12 degrees each. Thus, each arc ended up under the sign of one of the zodiacal constellations revolving around the Sun. This is how the zodiac signs were born.

Indeed, some astrologers believe that the system of calculations according to the signs of the zodiac is fickle. The fact is that the countdown begins from the point of the vernal equinox, which continuously moves towards the annual movement of the Sun (this phenomenon is called precession). Over 72 years, it shifts by approximately one degree. Consequently, over two thousand years, the equinox point should have shifted by almost 30 degrees, which corresponds to the magnitude of the arc of one zodiac sign.

It turns out that zodiac signs really do shift? However, you should not make hasty conclusions.
