Make an unusual trailer out of an ordinary one. DIY mobile home: design photos, step-by-step work process

Hello, dear friends! Well, who among us doesn’t like to sit by the fire on the river bank on a warm summer evening with a barbecue and cognac? My mouth is already watering) And then how to spend the night in a tent... But humanity is more and more striving for a civilized holiday. Even alone with nature, we no longer part with the benefits of city life. Today we will talk about a motor home. Meet the dacha trailer!

What kind of beast

This is a fully equipped campervan with maximum interior equipment that clings to a car. As a rule, inside it there is a kitchen, a bedroom, a living room, a bathroom, and a shower room. All this can be placed with the help of multifunctional transformable furniture, as well as a competent layout.

On modern market There are not many offers for the sale of trailers. The lion's share is represented by foreign representatives. There are only a few residential trailers produced on the Russian market, but they are not even close to Western models.

In the West, campers have been made for a long time, hence this experience. Our culture of caravanning is just developing. This is why in Russia you can more often see homemade motorhomes converted from car trailer.

crazy hands

Huge assortment building materials allows any craftsman owner of a car trailer to create his own cottage on wheels. And indeed, there is nothing tricky here, you just need to use your wits.

We will take as a basis an ordinary passenger trailer with a slightly enlarged body. The body size is 240 x 120 cm. To begin with, a frame is made from 50x50 mm timber. Then the frame is sheathed with a galvanized sheet of metal, from which corrugated sheeting is made.

It is advisable to insulate the distance between the joists with at least polystyrene foam, then the inside of the motorhome will remain warm, like in a thermos. Internal lining can be made to your taste: wood, plastic, lining, plywood and other materials.

It would be nice to separate the bedroom from the kitchen. To do this, you need to put a partition in the back of the booth, leaving about 190 cm for the bedroom. It all depends on the height of the vacationer. In the sleeping area, the entire area will be occupied by a mattress. On the partition above the position of the legs you can hang convenient storage lockers and even hang a TV, since we're talking about civilization)))

On the kitchen side you can place a small built-in refrigerator, gas stove and a small sink with a washstand. And also hang food boxes above them. The space under the tabletop can be used to store a gas cylinder, water

Yes, I almost forgot about doors and windows. There are also options here and they are also from human life. Sometimes they are made like plastic ones at home, but only small. There is an option to find windows from a company that specializes in overhead garage doors. Have you seen such windows as portholes? And you can insert roller shutters or shutters into doorways. You can also order them from window makers.

You can place a roof rack on the roof, which can also be multifunctional. It can be transported various loads, put an aerodynamic autobox on it, bike racks with bicycles, whatever. You can also attach a device to it and use it as a canopy from the sun and rain.

And if you also attach some kind of awning to this canopy and secure it with a peg in the ground, then it will work out additional wall. And if you make three of them, you get an additional room.

IN in general here who has enough imagination and possibilities. But the idea is clear, I hope. The advantages of such campers are that there is no need for additional categories; we base them on the basis of a regular passenger trailer with a total weight of up to 750 kg; they are relatively inexpensive. Look at photos of examples of such motorhomes.

Questions with the traffic police

There can only be two questions:

  1. Category of rights.
  2. Is a homemade camper considered a modification to the design.

You will find the answer to the first one; we have already examined this question in detail. We also partially answered the second question on the page: . But let’s add one more thing: If you don’t change load-bearing structure, the camper itself that you are setting up is a secured cargo container. And this is completely legal, especially since you do not go beyond the permissible dimensions.

Ready solutions

These trailers can be safely called a house on wheels. Their size can reach 12 meters. They can be compared to an expensive yacht, only on wheels. The interior will definitely have at least a double bedroom with functional furniture, living room with a folding sofa and table, bathroom, shower, full kitchen with refrigerator.

Optionally, such a dacha trailer will be equipped gas heater, generator and air conditioning system. There are models with transformable walls that expand inner space at the time of parking.

How to choose

The choice of motorhome is very difficult task. Here both the technical part of the choice and the aesthetic part will be combined at once. Co technical side you will need to look at all the suspension mechanisms, braking system and general technical condition chassis. To do this, it is better to contact a specialist.

Also on the technical side, you need to check the operation of all devices inside the house. This is a refrigerator, stove, water heater, climate control equipment and everything else that should work.

Check the condition of interior decoration and upholstery upholstered furniture, the operation of furniture mechanisms and transformation mechanisms. Remember, this is not ordinary apartment, here you won’t just change the wallpaper and the sofa. Finishing elements are made specifically for this interior and others will be difficult and expensive to make.

Where can I buy

I think the first thing you need to do is look at the ads on Avito. On the Avito website, sellers offer campers throughout the country. The largest supply of used motorhomes is in Moscow and St. Petersburg; by the way, they are often used there as a mobile office. Even more offers on the car markets of Belarus. They get there directly from the EU countries.

Price

The price for a used trailer starts from 100 thousand rubles. Depends on the configuration and year of manufacture. A more or less decent camper can be bought starting from 300-400 thousand. Well, then, you understand, the more expensive, the more functional and younger. The price of a homemade house on wheels can start from 500 bucks, not counting the platform itself. The trailer itself can be purchased cheaper on the secondary market

A mobile home is a type of transport that is both housing and a means of transportation. This type of housing gained its popularity at the beginning of the last century.

By standard, a mobile home must accommodate eight people. Each resident has their own sleeping area, there is also small kitchen. Other amenities and equipment may vary depending on the specific model, but in most cases there are also:

More expensive models have a bathroom consisting of (often replacing a chair, which gives a few extra meters free space), washbasin and shower. Sometimes mobile homes are equipped with showers.

Note! In a motorhome, the driver and passenger seats are movable, as a result of which they become an addition to the living space when parked. The tail is often equipped with a separate room with U-shaped furniture.

Story

Mass production of mobile homes began in the last century, although some historians believe there were earlier home-built equivalents. They were small vans equipped for living people (mainly cattle breeders).

The first mobile home mounted on a conventional automobile chassis was introduced in 1938 by Jennings.

Types of mobile homes

There are several classifications of motorhomes. So, according to the design features:

Depending on their purpose, they are divided into:

  • those used as long-term/permanent housing;
  • those used for travel.

In the first case, there are more comfortable conditions, while frequently moving structures are extremely rarely divided into actual living space and a cabin.

Categories

Let's look at each of the categories in detail.

C-class

Small-sized houses intended for short trips. Usually made on the basis of SUVs, so at night the cabin can be converted into a double bed (if desired).

B-class

The only difference between it and the C-class is the berth - it is stationary and located at the rear of the vehicle. Very popular among young couples (at least in America).

A-class

Such houses, which look like a regular bus, are the most comfortable and, therefore, the most expensive. They are built on the basis of trucks, so from the point of view transport classification they are categorized as "C".

They are distinguished by a large windshield, a fixed driver's seat and retractable partitions that form different zones and separate sleeping places. Moreover, such structures are autonomous, equipped with a generator, have gas and large stock water.

Several additional categories can be distinguished.

About the name

The term “motorhome” (another name is “camper”) often refers to a car caravan.

Note! Campers are called B- and C-class trailers, while motorhomes are exclusively A-class models.

It is also worth noting that in some countries, all motorhomes without exception are called vinebago.

Turning a car into a motorhome will require a lot of effort and time, as well as the appropriate equipment.

Note! First, you should study this issue from a legal point of view. Different registration organizations view home-built motorhomes differently, and it would be a shame if the vehicle ends up being illegal.

Stage 1. First, the number of residents is determined and, based on this, vehicle and internal “filling”. A detailed design plan is drawn up - this can be done on paper, but it is better to use a computer.

Stage 2. Next, the car body is cleared. If dents are identified, they are removed and the peeling paint is cleaned off. Several windows (if there were none) are installed in the building for lighting and fresh air.

Stage 3. Cut out ventilation holes and valves for gas supply. All areas of bare metal are coated with a primer to protect against corrosion and aggressive environmental influences.

Stage 4. The house is finished with thermal insulation material.

Note! To do this you need to use exclusively quality materials, saving is highly undesirable. In addition, the material from which the hardware (metal fasteners) are made must be similar to the metal of the car body - this is for additional protection from rusting.

Stage 5. The inner surface of the motorhome is finished.

  • carpet covering;
  • moisture-resistant plywood.

IN side walls thick panels with padded strips are inserted for furniture installation. It is typical that first it is better to level the ceiling, and only after that move on to the walls.

Stage 6. After installing the furniture, you should take care of the water supply. To do this, you can place several cans of water under the sink and install small pumps. In addition, you can install large tanks - for example, for taking a shower.

Note! Don't forget about wastewater– for this purpose another tank is installed. An ordinary garden structure can be used as a toilet.

Step 7. For cooking and heating, as noted earlier, it is better to use propane gas. The cylinder is located in the lower part of the body, as well as an additional hole for ventilation. This can be explained quite simply: propane weighs more than air, so in the event of a leak, such safety measures will prevent dire consequences.

Stage 8. All that remains is to take care of the energy supply. The best option– powerful accumulator battery, equipped with an external charging outlet.

Mobile home made from an old trailer

Our trailer-trailer costs about 500,000 rubles. The amount is impressive, so if you have the opportunity to purchase an old car trailer, you can build a small motorhome with your own hands. For this you will need:

  • trailer (necessarily with a strong chassis);
  • wooden elements (slats, bars, carriage planks);
  • plywood;
  • metal profile (for roofing);
  • fittings made in the same style;
  • a set of appropriate tools.

Manufacturing technology

Such a motorhome will be a trailer with a rear part. By the way, it is better to make the bed the entire width of the structure - this way it will connect the side walls and thereby increase rigidity. The bay window will be manufactured later and equipped with a custom block. The door is installed Dutch type– it will consist of two halves.

Stage 1. The trailer is disassembled, the chassis is thoroughly cleaned and coated anti-corrosion paint. From pine boards a frame is constructed and supports are cut out in appropriate places.

Stage 2. A frame is constructed from slats with a cross-section of 2x2 cm; an oak slat with a cross-section of 3x3 cm is additionally installed in each corner. A horizontal slat is tied on top of the frame.

It is advisable to use lining of different thicknesses:

  • for side walls – 6 mm;
  • for front and rear – 19 mm.

Note! For thermal insulation, you can lay the lining in two layers.

Stage 3. The floor is covered plywood sheets. Poplar beams are used for the roof - they are screwed along the frame in increments of 30 cm. Plywood is fixed on the beams, on top of which a moisture-resistant material and a metal profile of a small cross-section are laid.

Stage 4. There will be only one window in the building (if you do not count the door) - at the top of the back wall. It is advisable to make the window in the form of a bay window.

Door lock in similar designs located below, but you can put one more - additional - on top. In addition, the door is equipped with a small casement window.

Stage 5. It is recommended to equip a table that extends from under the bed (as was once the case on Great Britain trains). For this purpose, special lockers are formed under the bed. By the way, the lower space can also be used as a sleeping place.

In addition, shelves and a removable ladder are built from wood.

Letter of the law

No additional permit is required if the dimensions of the mobile home do not exceed:

  • 400 cm in height;
  • 255 cm wide;
  • 100 cm in length (excluding the part that does not protrude beyond the trailer).

If the dimensions are larger, then the motorhome is transported according to special rules (flashing lights, escort, etc.). Of course, this only applies to caravans.

Organizing a mobile home business

At the construction of motorhomes it is possible to organize own business. There are four options for developing such a business.

Option #1. Making houses for sale for summer holiday

or living in the country. This will not require serious material costs, since the houses will be of a simplified design - for example, without insulation. Option #2. Rent out mobile homes. It's relative new business, and everything new can be very expensive. Number of motorhomes in

in this case

grows as the customer base grows.

Option #3.

Make mobile eateries or shops.

Option number 4 is also the most interesting. It consists of creating a car park and its further use as a hotel. The main thing here is to divide the trailers into budget, premium and middle class. For a more detailed introduction to construction technology, watch the thematic video. Video - DIY mobile home Big for everyone brain hello ! In preparation for my wedding, I planned to go on a road trip during my honeymoon. And for this trip I with your own hands

made a small mobile homemade, which I’ll tell you about now. My wife and I decided to carry out a traditional voyage along the roads of America, but at the same time we would like to have more comfort than ordinary tents. And in the process of planning route points to visit, I came across small travel trailers and others like that inexpensive ways

recreation in campsites. For more information I went exploring the "drip" trailer forums and found a couple of magazines about building your own camping trailer out of a flatbed trailer, plywood, and a lot of handwork! So, after consulting with my wife, visiting several forums, and considering our financial situation, we decided that traveling in a camping trailer would be the most ideal option

for our honeymoon! And this

Step 1: Ideas and Design

The first task when building our campsite is homemade products It was necessary to decide on the size and design that suited us, and which also fit into our budget. The Teardrop n Tiny Travel Trailer forum helped us with the choice of trailer design. I can’t advise you to stop only on this site, but the forum members from it offered us simply a huge amount useful information, and I believe without their support we would not have completed this project at all!

Special thanks to brainmodeler e1ioan and his guide on creating a "drip" trailer, which was my main inspiration and from which I borrowed many ideas for my crafts.

Requirements for our project:

- the trailer must be light enough so that we can tow it with our car, for which the permitted towing weight for long trips is no more than 680 kg;
- it should be spacious enough to comfortably accommodate two adults, while still leaving space for storage and a kitchenette with a sink and a folding stove;
— it must fit in a standard 1-car garage;
- the trailer space should be well ventilated, that is, windows and doors should be of sufficient size and could be opened, and there should also be a fan powered by alternating current;
— the trailer’s electrics must be able to fully operate without recharging for at least two days. In several places we visited it was not possible to be “powered” from the mains, that is, everything that needed to be turned on was “powered” entirely from rechargeable batteries, which we decided to use in such cases.
- budget brain project(not including additional expenses) is $2,000, with another $200 set aside for the tool.

Based on our requirements, we realized that a 150x240cm flatbed trailer would be just fine for us to use as the base of our lightweight camping trailer.

Step 2: Materials and Tools

We expected to spend no more than $2,200 on tools and materials for this project. So to cut some costs I borrowed some tools from friends and relatives ( circular table, a jigsaw of the “extra” class, a drill also of the “extra” class, an angle grinder). Of the rest of the tools, I already had some, but some had to be purchased along with materials during the very process of creating our crafts. As much as possible, I tried to keep track of all our acquisitions during the project, but still I missed half of them.

Most big problem with the materials was that most of the plywood and metal sheets delivered were 120x240cm in size, while the trailer measures 150x240cm. Therefore, for the floor and ceiling I had to buy two additional sheets of 120x240cm, and then cut the sheets to a size of 120x150 and join them to get a size of 150x240. This naturally increased brain drain, and made it difficult for us to stay within the budget (although there is a plus to this - there were scraps of plywood and metal measuring 90x120cm left)! The tool that we had to buy was all battery-powered, since there was only one electrical outlet in our garage!

Many lovers of free holidays dream of traveling in a motor home, so as not to be dependent on purchasing tickets, booking hotels and being tied to one point during the entire holiday. A mobile home is both a home and a means of transportation. It allows you to travel with maximum comfort and stop wherever you want along the way. In addition, it can be used as housing in the country or while building a house.

Types of mobile homes

Today a mobile home can be purchased ready-made, although it is quite expensive. But it’s much more interesting and cheaper to make it yourself from an old vehicle by converting it inner part or making such a motorhome practically from scratch, not counting the base. For this, in addition to the “wheels” themselves, you will need not only funds for re-equipment and a variety of tools, but also certain skills for such work, as well as a lot of effort and free time.

Attention! Before investing in the conversion of a vehicle, you need to find out all the nuances of its registration with the relevant authorities in order to avoid any problems during registration. Otherwise, it is unlikely that you will be able to use such a vehicle for travel, and it will end up as a dead weight somewhere in the country.

A decent sized mobile home can be made from a large van, but a mobile home like this is a prohibitively expensive vehicle. Among budget options, quite suitable for those who like to make anything with their own hands, there are three most convenient ones. So, a mobile home can be made from:

  • Gazelles;
  • old bus;
  • trailer with a strong chassis.

House made from a Gazelle car

To implement any of these three options, in addition to having the vehicle itself, which will be taken as a basis, you will need a plan for the future motorhome, at least in schematic form. Such a plan will allow you to take into account all the design features and plan residential area with maximum comfort for being there. You can simply draw it on paper or do it on a computer, if that’s more convenient.

Internal communications of a mobile home

Without electricity, water supply and gas, it is difficult to call life in a mobile home comfortable. To provide electricity to a room, a battery and Charger. The electrical wiring inside must be thought out in advance. Don’t forget about the external connector to charge the battery, which come in different capacities. Most suitable container Batteries also need to be calculated in advance, taking into account the load and travel range.

Interior arrangement of a mobile home

Often used for heating rooms gas cylinders. Gas will also be convenient for cooking, which is much more economical in terms of consumption than an electric stove. The presence of a kitchen in such a house means installing a hood above the stove and organizing common system ventilation, which is especially important when using propane.

Advice. You should not undertake independent gasification and electricity supply to the premises if there is no necessary knowledge and experience, it is better to entrust such work to professionals. The safety of people in the motorhome directly depends on how competently they are carried out.

The kitchen cannot function without water, which is usually stored in containers where submersible pump to feed it into the tap. To drain used water, a tank is also used, which is mounted either indoors or outdoors. If desired, the mobile home can be equipped and small shower. But it is not possible to create a conventional bathroom in a mobile home; a dry closet is used for this purpose.

Kitchen area in a motorhome

As for furniture, it is better if all of it in a motor home is practical and compact, because there is not too much space to place it. Options for reclining beds, sliding tables and similar organization of space can be used. And all this must be securely fastened to the walls to ensure safety when moving. Furniture for furnishing can be purchased ready-made, but for a person with hands it is not difficult to make it yourself, taking into account the size of the room, and make a sofa and chairs, for example, from car seats.

It is quite possible to arrange the interior space in a mobile home, and you can do it all yourself. But before that you need to prepare the room. Depending on which option is taken - a minibus or a trailer, there will be differences in the stages of work required for the conversion.

Mobile home from a Gazelle or an old bus

Re-equipment of a minibus begins with cleaning the body from upholstery and seats, after which various holes– under windows, ventilation, for gas supply.

Mobile house from a bus

Then the work on arranging the residential area is carried out in the following sequence:

  • align existing ones inner surface dents, then prime all exposed metal parts of the body to prevent corrosion;
  • the internal surface of the future house, including walls, floor and ceiling, is covered with thermal insulation;
  • Moisture-resistant plywood or carpeting is laid on top of the heat-insulating material, starting from the ceiling.

Upon completion of these works, electrification and gasification of the premises, equipment of the kitchen and bathroom, and installation of furniture are carried out. For reliable installation furniture, plywood of a larger thickness is attached to the walls than on the floor or ceiling, or separate reinforced strips are installed to fix it. And, of course, if necessary, you need to put in order the chassis and engine of a Gazelle or an old bus, then such a house will become truly mobile.

Mobile home based on trailer

Here, unlike a house made from a minibus, the work is somewhat different. First you need to protect the chassis from corrosion by cleaning and painting them. Then you will have to build the floor, walls, ceiling and roof, proceeding in the following sequence:

  • place plywood of sufficient thickness on the frame, surround the outer edge with timber and secure with bolts;

Flooring for a house based on a trailer

  • lay the beams on the floor, securing them between them thermal insulation material and cover it all with plywood on top;
  • timber and clapboard are used for the construction of walls, not forgetting to make openings for windows and doors during the work, as well as technological openings for the entry and exit of various communications;
  • to build a roof, install rafters, cover them with plywood, covering them with moisture-resistant material;

Construction of walls

  • after laying electrical wiring make thermal insulation of the walls, then covering the top with fiberboard;
  • for guard wooden walls prime them inside and out, then paint them in two layers;
  • install a door and windows; additional interior finishing may be required.

Upon completion of these works, you can think about gasification, water supply, organizing the kitchen and bathroom, and installing furniture. Then all that remains is to install the fenders and lights that come with the trailer, and the mobile home is ready to travel.

Don't forget to get permits before you hit the road in your motorhome

Of course, traveling in a motor home is very convenient. However, before you start construction, decide for yourself whether you can handle all the work yourself, because it will require quite a lot of effort, money and skills.

How to build a mobile home: photo

Experienced travelers know that it is not always possible to spend the night cheaply and comfortably. Therefore, when traveling long distances and having your own car, it would be a sin not to buy a towbar and hook up a caravan trailer. Essentially, this is a house on wheels - a kind of small room with a kitchen, a toilet... Well, in general, with all the objects of civilization. In such a “mini-hotel” you can not only spend the night comfortably, but even cook food for several people and have lunch there, and most importantly - completely free! And today we will look at how to make a trailer-dacha with your own hands.

Chassis and frame

The main component of any trailer is the frame. It is on this that the entire load from the metal body (the frame of the “house”) falls, and below is the bridge, beam and wheels. By the way, you won’t have any particular difficulties regarding this, because the design of the trailer is not fundamentally different from the car system, with the exception of the engine units. Therefore, when it is made as a chassis system, you can completely “rip out” part of the wheels, springs and other suspension parts from any old car. Any car model can be suitable for such a vehicle, be it a Volga, Moskvich or Zhiguli.

How to make a trailer-dacha with your own hands? Room design

And if the algorithm for designing a caravan trailer is practically no different from a conventional cargo version at the stages of building the chassis system and frame, then difficulties may arise with the body. The fact is that homemade caravan trailer should really be comfortable and practical, so even on the drawing you need to develop a plan for the design and location of all the parts. Indicate where the bedroom, kitchen will be located, and if it is a frame with a length of 5 meters or more, you can additionally install a bathroom. However, remember that every new room entails additional expenses, which means the price of the finished trailer will be significant. Moreover, in order to legally drive in such a hitch, you also need to register this vehicle with the traffic police. And this is at least several thousand dollars on top. Therefore, do not overload your trailer with unnecessary devices.

Refurbishment option

The most practical option is a design that has a built-in frame for an awning on the side (remember the legendary Soviet “Skif”). When it is in an expanded state, it turns out to be a kind of big tent. This significantly reduces the cost of work and the effort spent on it. This home-made trailer is very functional and at the same time easy to use.

Towbar and illumination

At the final stage, it is worth taking care of how finished design will be attached to the vehicle's tow bar. Also, a homemade trailer-dacha must have a pair of brake lights and turn signals. Consider a location for the license plate in the center or on the side and install a backlight to it, preferably LED. Such a camper trailer on wheels will definitely be the best hotel for a traveler.
