DIY wall clock. We make watches with our own hands: a master class on creating and decorating wall and wrist chronometers. Why are wall clocks so interesting?

Comfort in our home depends on many details and little things. Thus, most interior stylists and designers agree that well-chosen curtains, lamps and lamps, blankets, pillows, carpets and clocks are integral attributes of comfort. Our master class will be devoted to the latter.

Anyone can make them, and there are hundreds of ways to do this. The most important thing in this matter is to install the clock mechanism (you can purchase it in a specialized store or remove it from an old, no longer needed watch), and the appearance of the product itself is left to your discretion.

In this lesson, we will talk about the most popular techniques that can be useful in designing original watches.

Clock in decoupage style

If you decide to make a watch using a similar technique, then you will need to purchase in advance from a specialized store a ready-made blank template, hands and clock mechanism, patterns for the background on rice paper or a napkin, acrylic paints, glue, varnish and other compositions necessary for decoupage, brushes, sponges.

First, you need to process the workpiece by covering it three times with acrylic paint primer and sanding it. After drying, it needs to be given the desired tone and texture. To ensure that the surface of the watch has an aged, shabby look, it is better to apply the paint randomly using a sponge.

Next, you should outline a frame around the perimeter of the workpiece, stepping back a couple of centimeters from the edge, and paint it in a darker tone.

Now you need to paint the workpiece in the color that matches your interior. In our case, the tone chosen was light ocher (ocher mixed with white). Mix the paint and apply with a sponge. Let it dry completely, then sand the workpiece.

The bezel of the watch must be highlighted in color. For example, wood paint would be suitable.

After this, you can apply the selected pattern to the workpiece. First you need to cut it out of rice paper, and if the pattern is on a napkin, then soak it in water. Now we simply apply it to its place on the dial and coat it with glue on top.

In the next step you will have to use all your imagination and artistic skills, because you will need to remove the border between the napkin and the surface of the watch and achieve the integrity of the design with the background. To do this, you will need to select paints of appropriate tones and use a sponge to create a smooth transition from the pattern to the surface. You can also try to continue the pattern in the same style and use a brush to complete its elements along the surface of the clock and along the dark frame. This will certainly add brightness and vibrancy to the image.

After drying, the most interesting step in this process begins - the artificial aging of our watches. To do this, use a special two-step craquelure product. It is applied with a dry brush in two layers, allowing each layer to dry thoroughly.

After its use, characteristic cracks appear on the product, which should be rubbed with copper powder. At the final stage, the workpiece is varnished.

Once the clock mechanism, numbers and hands find their place, the clock will come to life and will become a wonderful addition to your kitchen, living room interior or a wonderful gift for friends.

Quilling style

Quilling or paper rolling is a decorative and applied art in which one works with strips of paper of different widths, twisting them into pattern elements, which then form a single composition. A flat wooden plywood board or thick cardboard will be suitable as the basis for future watches. In our case, black paper was glued to the surface of the board, and the elements were mainly made of white paper to achieve contrast. You can choose any combination, as well as use any quilling elements.

The color scheme of the product should depend on where it will be used. At a minimum, it should fit into the existing style of the room and not disturb its harmony with its presence, on the contrary, strengthening this criterion. So the choice of color is the most important point in this matter.

To work with this technique, you will need strips cut from paper, glue and a hook or knitting needle on which you will wind the paper. All finished elements are glued to the surface of the future product. You can mark the divisions, but this is not necessary.

First you need to do the numbers. Simple quilling elements in the form of tightly rolled spirals are suitable for this.

After the numbers, proceed to creating the main elements of watch decoration. In this case, flowers consisting of the “drop” element were chosen.

The finished “drops” must be collected into flowers and all the preparations must be transferred to the surface of the watch.

Before adding the clock mechanism, you need to decorate the middle of the clock.

All that remains is to place the finished watch in a frame under glass.

This product option is suitable for children's bedrooms.

From wooden sticks

In this case, you will not need many materials, just wooden sticks, glue, sharp scissors and a working clock with a flat surface. Cut out at least one hundred sticks and glue them like rays of sunshine in several rows, making sure that the length of the sticks is relatively equal. It is advisable to make a second layer of longer sticks. This will create an interesting visual effect - an “explosion” effect.

This design will fit original into the interior of the kitchen and living room.

From tiles for false ceiling

Such tiles, if, of course, they are made of gypsum, will always look beautiful and with special chic. Making our device from this material is an excellent solution for creative and romantic people.

Gypsum ceiling tiles are called medallions among builders. A clock mechanism is attached to its back. A hole is made in the center for the arrows. In order for our product to have a laconic and at the same time refined look, it is appropriate to apply an additional coating to it in the form of matte paint or paint with a glossy effect.

You choose the paint color yourself, but it is worth remembering that the original color of plaster, a material made to look like marble, is beige, white, pearl, white-coffee and white-purple (pale pink).

This element of room decor will perfectly complement the decoration of halls, living rooms, and bedrooms.

You probably guessed that skilled people can transform anything and, as a rule, this does not require a lot of money or unique materials. Enough available tools and good imagination.

We wrote in the previous article, so take a look. You might get some ideas for yourself.

Today we will talk about how to transform a wall in your house or apartment by creating a clock. If you want to learn how to make a wall clock with your own hands, then this article is for you.

Clock "Flower"

In order to make this watch, you will need:

  • Plastic teaspoons of any color - 220-250 pieces;
  • Silicone glue;
  • Scissors;
  • The dial is from an old watch;
  • Paint (optional);
  • Screwdriver and screws;
  • Expanded polystyrene or regular foam of medium thickness - one square.

Take the foam base and cut a hole inside for the dial. Using self-tapping screws and a screwdriver, make fasteners so that the future product can be hung on the wall.

Then take the spoons and glue the flower heads around the hole as shown in the picture.

When the gluing is finished, you can paint the spoons any color if you chose white.

When the paint is dry, connect the dial and “petals” together.

As a result, you will get a watch like this.

Moon clock

Such a watch would be an ideal solution for a nursery, especially if your child loves space and everything connected with it. In addition to the Moon, you can take any satellite or planet of the solar system.

You will need:

  • Plywood sheet;
  • White cardboard;
  • Scissors;
  • Fasteners;
  • Glue;
  • Clockwork;
  • Printed print of the Moon or planet.

Take a sheet of plywood and cut out a circle of your desired size. Based on the resulting circle, cut out the clock base from white cardboard. Next, glue the cardboard onto the plywood.

After that, take the Moon printout and cut it to the size of the base and then glue it on. When the print is dry, drill a hole in the center and install the mechanism.

Attach the fasteners to the back of the plywood and hang the product on the wall. You can make a big clock this way. The main thing is good print resolution and high-quality printing.

Watercolor clock

To make this wooden clock, you will need:

  • Birch plywood;
  • Watercolor paints;
  • Brush;
  • Wooden numbers for decoupage and silicone glue (optional);
  • Clockwork;
  • Fasteners

Take plywood and cut out a circle. After this, use a brush to moisten the base with water and begin to carefully make paint stains. The color scheme can be any according to your desire. When the paint is dry, you can glue the numbers. If you decide to do without them, then you can begin installing the mechanism. To do this, just drill a hole in the center and install the arrows. You can also varnish the watch.

Finally, install the fasteners and that’s it, your watch is ready.

If the interior of your house or apartment is made in a minimalist style, you can make a wall clock with your own hands, following all the rules of minimalism.

You will need:

  • Plywood;
  • Black paint;
  • Gold-colored clock mechanism;
  • Fasteners

Cut a circle out of plywood and paint it black, then varnish it. Cut a hole for the mechanism and install it. Attach fasteners and hang on the wall.

Knitted watch

If you ask how to make such a watch, we will answer - very simply. The only condition is that you need to know how to knit. Otherwise there are no problems. You don't even have to crate anything.

You just need to have an old round watch, thread and knitting needles (hook). Knit a watch case and put it on top.

The result will be such beauty.

Domino

Beautiful and original watch, for which you need:

  • Base - plywood, wood;
  • Dominoes - 12 dice;
  • Clockwork;
  • Dye;
  • Silicone glue.

Take the base, cut a square out of it and paint it any color. If desired, you can coat the base with varnish. After that, cut a hole in the middle and install the mechanism. After that, glue the bones according to the time. Attach the fasteners and that’s it, the product is ready.

A kitchen clock is a necessary, useful and, in general, ordinary thing. Few people think about their design, because the main thing is that they show the time correctly, helping to control the process of preparing various dishes.

But try to make a wall clock for the kitchen with your own hands - and you will notice that the atmosphere in this room has subtly changed.

Of course, we are not talking about assembling and adjusting the clock mechanism yourself - you should use a ready-made one, bought in a store or removed from an old watch. But you can really get creative with the design of the dial.

Handmade kitchen clock

Many of us have some kind of hobby related to needlework. These skills can be used to make watches, even if you think it is impossible. In fact, watches can be knitted, embroidered, woven, drawn, etc.

Don't believe me? Look at the following photos.

As you can see, a little imagination and skill - and your kitchen will acquire a real handmade designer item.

If you don’t know how to sew, embroider, or draw, you can come up with something else, no less interesting (see also the article about). You might like one of the ideas we suggested in this article or video.

Watches made from scrap materials

Look into the cabinets and drawers in your kitchen, and you are sure to find many unnecessary or worn-out items that can still serve in another capacity. For example, an old pot lid, the only plate left from a set, or a flour sieve can be an excellent base for a watch.

And here are the options for using them:

  • Unscrew the handle from the old lid and you will have a watch case with a finished hole in the center. The lid can be spray painted, painted, or decorated with stickers. A watch mechanism with a battery is attached to the back, and hands are attached to the front.

  • The simplest and most original kitchen clock can be made from disposable tableware: plates and plastic cutlery. This idea is not new, but still interesting. Exactly the same as in the previous case, all you have to do is glue the clock mechanism to the back and install the hands.

Advice. Instead of a disposable plate, it is better to use a more rigid base - a lid from a mayonnaise bucket or a circle cut out of thick cardboard.

  • If you need a fairly large art object, take a large tray of any shape, drill a hole in the middle and, using good glue, attach twelve coffee cups to it. Further instructions are similar to the previous ones.

These ideas should not be copied literally, but used only as hints. For example, instead of a lid, an excellent case for a watch could be a frying pan with a handle or an old vinyl record.

Coffee clock

Coffee beans are a favorite material for making various crafts among craftsmen.. They can also be used to decorate watches. They are especially appropriate in the kitchen, as they will not only show the time, but also exude a magical aroma.

It is not necessary to make a watch with your own hands; you can use existing ones, and just decorate them with coffee beans, sticking them directly on the dial or on the bezel of the case. Although you can come up with your own composition. Watch the master class to understand how to work with this material and what it can be combined with.

Advice. Instead of coffee, you can use any other grains, as well as pasta. If you paint them with spray paint, you can create an interesting ornament or a whole picture.

Decoupage

Today this method of decoration has found a second life, because it allows you to create truly unique things. Its essence is extremely simple: it is a regular applique, which is coated with varnish on top to protect the design.

Sometimes craquelure varnishes are used, creating small cracks on the surface and giving the effect of antiquity.

For kitchen clocks, you can use paper napkins with a pattern that matches the style and color. They are glued to the prepared base with PVA glue diluted with water. After drying, you can draw on the outlines, stick or write numbers, and then cover it all with acrylic varnish.

Wooden clock

If you enjoy working with wood and your kitchen style calls for this kind of decor, there are a lot of possibilities open to you.

  • You can make a DIY kitchen wall clock from a thin cut of wood (see also the article about kitchen wall clocks). It just needs to be sanded, varnished or stained and a hole drilled for attaching the hands.

  • Remember the old cuckoo clock that used to hang in almost every village house? Their likeness can be made from wooden planks and decorated with salt dough figures.

  • Another interesting idea that your children or grandchildren will love. Cut a circle from thick plywood, and drill 12 thin holes at its end at equal intervals. We won’t remind you about the clock mechanism and hands - everything is as usual. But the role of time indicators should be played by lollipops inserted into pre-made holes. Just don’t remove the wrapper from them ahead of time.

Advice. Make a supply of lollipops to insert them in place of those that will constantly and mysteriously disappear.

Conclusion

In every home, it is not global methods of surface finishing that give a special atmosphere, but small accessories and decorations. Do you want to decorate your home with original handmade items? Try making a wall clock with your own hands - it's not as difficult as it seems. Let's try to make a designer wall clock?

Materials and tools

What will you need to make a watch? First of all, it is a clock mechanism. It can be taken from factory alarm clocks or purchased at craft stores. If you need large, openwork arrows, make them yourself from a strip of thin metal:

  1. Print the template on your printer.
  2. Transfer it to the tin, pressing along the contour.
  3. Cut with scissors and make a hole with a hole punch.
  4. Spray paint any color you like.

You can make walkers with figures moving in a circle: butterflies, flowers or a running person. To do this, parts cut out of thick but light cardboard are glued onto the finished arrows. The result is an original item with running, decorated arrows.

Important! There are special mechanisms with a pendulum that can be decorated to your liking. As a result, you get a thing that, when you look at it, you cannot believe that it was made with your own hands.

In addition to the mechanism, you will need a scale with marked numbers. Where can I get it?

Make numbers from:

  • Salt dough. Knead a stiff dough from salt and flour (1:1), adding PVA glue to it. After rolling the sausages, place them in shapes and dry. When the dough is dry, paint the model with paint and fix it with varnish.
  • Polymer clay. This material is similar to children's plasticine, but when baked in the oven it hardens, turning into plastic. It can be painted with gold paint or left with clay colors.
  • Ready numbers for the front door. Large numerals made of plastic and metal are suitable for large dials. They can also be painted in any shade.
  • Stencils. Print and transfer the time scale to paper. Cut with a sharp knife and the stencil is ready. Now you can make the numbers by painting them with paint or texture putty.
  • Available materials. Some ideas don't require purchased parts. The divisions will be replaced by buttons, keys, dominoes, beads, artificial flowers and colored paper.

Important! To make the product complete, think through the design in advance by drawing it on paper.

Look among the old clothes and sewing items - is there anything suitable there? Determine the style in which you want to make a watch: will it be luxurious Modernism, laconic Minimalism or cheerful decor for a nursery? And the idea of how to make a watch with your own hands will finally form in your head. All that remains is to bring it to life using the tips provided below.

Clock in decoupage style

An interesting design option not only for watches, but also for other household items is decoupage, which creates an imitation of painting. For this decoration method, printouts, napkins with patterns and special cards for decoupage are used, which are glued to a base made of any material:

  • wood;
  • plywood;
  • cardboard;
  • gypsum;
  • plastic;
  • glass;
  • metal

It is impossible to say about such a ready-made item that it is homemade, and the drawing is not an author’s painting, but ordinary paper with a design.

To make your own watch more original in addition to decoupage:

  1. Apply brushing (firing). It is suitable for hardwood pieces.
  2. Use gold plating. Thin sheets of gold leaf (rolled metal) are glued onto the numbers, the edge of a watch, or part of a pattern.
  3. Decorate your watch with a stencil pattern.
  4. Add decorative effects. For example, paint it with metallic paint, mother-of-pearl, or decorate it with small glass beads.
  5. Antique your watch using craquelure compounds, which create a light network of cracks on the surface of the varnish, like in old paintings.

To make a simple wooden wall clock decorated with decoupage, take:

  • napkins with a pattern;
  • water-based acrylic varnish;
  • acrylic paints;
  • fine sandpaper;
  • bristle brushes.

Operating procedure:

  • Prepare the workpiece so that the soil adheres to the surface. To do this, sand the surface with fine sandpaper.
  • Apply primer with a wide brush and dry.

Important! If you don’t have a special primer at hand, prepare it from PVA glue and white water-based paint mixed in a 1:2 ratio.

  • Sand the workpiece again. The surface must be perfectly flat, otherwise the pasted paper will lie unevenly and bubble.
  • Apply glue to the workpiece and transfer the design to the base.
  • Spread the paper over the surface, from the center to the edges, expelling air bubbles.
  • When the decoupage is dry, coat the picture with 2-3 layers of varnish.
  • Paint the sides of the clock.
  • Print the dial to the size of the watch, transfer the markings to the blank with a pencil.
  • Glue or draw numbers and a time scale.
  • Install the clock mechanism on the reverse side.
  • Attach arrows.

Important! Use several methods to create a unique piece of art. Apply craquelure over the gold leaf, fire along the edge of the clock, and draw the numbers through the stencil.

Cardboard clock for the nursery

This material is unfairly considered flimsy and unreliable, but on its basis you can make wall clocks with any type of decor and a wide variety of shapes.

2 types of cardboard are suitable for watches:

  1. corrugated cardboard - the same one from which packaging boxes are made;
  2. beer paper - this paper is used for binding books and is similar to thin plywood.

Important! Thin cardboard from creativity kits does not hold its shape, use it to decorate the finished watch: cut out decor from it to decorate the watch - numbers, figures and flowers.

We'll tell you how to make a watch for a child's room with large numbers:

  1. Mark the circle with a compass and cut it out with a utility knife. To make the workpiece durable, make 2-3 backing parts with a hole for the mechanism, and 1 front part. Glue them together and the watch will be durable.
  2. Divide the circle in half, pierce a hole for the mechanism rod with a pencil.
  3. Mark the numbers and stick on large buttons and bright lids from children's plasticine.
  4. Draw numbers on felt and cut out a circle to fit the lids.
  5. Glue the numbers onto the clock.

All that remains is to assemble the clock and hang it in the nursery.

Important! Complete the design with painting, applique and characters from your favorite cartoons.

Record clock

To decorate a clock from a record with your own hands, you will need a special tool - a jigsaw or an engraver. You won't be able to cut vinyl with a utility knife or soldering iron:

  1. Cover the plate with paper tape.
  2. Prepare a stencil on squared paper.
  3. Cut out the template with a blade.
  4. Attach it to the plate and trace it with a pencil.
  5. Cut the vinyl along the outline with a jigsaw, and then remove the tape.
  6. Sand the rough edges with sandpaper.
  7. Enlarge the hole and insert the clock mechanism.

Additionally, you can make a backlight that will highlight the outline of the clock and serve as a light source:

  • Glue the LED strip with double-sided tape to the clock mechanism along its perimeter.
  • Install the crown with the switch and connect the wires.

Important! You can paint the plate with spray paint. If a multi-color design is needed, then several stencils are created, each for a specific color, which are applied one after another, starting with the lightest.

Clock made from CDs

Old laser discs are ideal for making clocks for your desk or kitchen. To turn an unwanted CD into a stylish decoration, there are several ideas:

  1. Cover the disc with a layer of black acrylic paint. Scratch numbers and floral designs. Rainbow patterns on a black background will turn a boring blank into a stylish watch.
  2. Connect several disks by gluing them onto a cardboard base. Insert the mechanism into the middle and you will get an original watch in the hi-tech style.
  3. Attach the disk to its plastic box, drill a hole for the arrow rod. Install an alarm clock mechanism. The result will be a compact timer on a desktop stand.
  4. To decorate the clock, use buttons from an old keyboard, securing them around the circumference.
  5. The plastic circle can be used as a dial for a large watch, decorating it with painting.

Important! A CD cut into pieces can be used to make a mosaic. Decorate a clock, record, tray or box with colorful shards to create a stylish set.

Wooden wall clock

A DIY wooden wall clock is a wonderful interior decoration. Let's learn how to make a stylish watch in Eco-style.

Prepare:

  • cutting down a tree;
  • sandpaper;
  • water stain;
  • Matt lacquer;
  • drill.

Operating procedure:

  1. Take a wooden round and sand the surface.
  2. Cover it with stain several times, achieving the desired color saturation.
  3. When the wood is dry, mark the numbers and the center of the circle.
  4. Drill a hole for the mechanism.
  5. Varnish the wood and set the clock.

Important! Use saw cuts with chips, cracks, or traces of knots for decoration to add individuality.

In addition to this idea, a wooden watch can be made from:

  • Small planks from vegetable boxes. Attach them to a square base, glue them and paint them with acrylic paint.
  • From square scraps of timber and remnants of parquet. Combine them into a panel and select interesting numbers.
  • Plywood. Cut out a shaped blank with a jigsaw and decorate to taste.
  • From branch cuts filled with epoxy resin.

Important! Wooden clocks are considered a classic piece of furniture and will not go out of style for a long time. They suit any style, be it Loft, Vintage or Provence. By choosing interesting numbers and a color that harmonizes with other decor, you will have an excellent, functional item that will decorate your home for a long time.

Watch on the hoop

To make a watch with your own hands at home, you don’t need to buy expensive materials. A neat textile watch can be made from an old hoop:

  1. Find a round hoop and thread a smooth, plain fabric into it.
  2. Cut the material, make a hole in the middle of the fabric for the clock.
  3. Decorate the front with buttons and embroidery.
  4. Insert the mechanism.
  5. Glue decorative tape around the circle and make a loop to hang the watch.

Additionally, you can decorate the hoop with lace, a motif cut from an old napkin, decoupage or painting.

Important! These clocks look good in a children's room or a rustic-style living room.

Clock on canvas

Artist stores sell ready-made frames with stretched fabric, from which you can make a fake clock:

  • Prime the canvas with an aqueous solution of PVA glue.
  • Apply putty mixed with glue using a flexible trowel.

Important! Simulate broad brush strokes to create a textured surface.

  • When the canvas is dry, paint it with light paint.
  • Then highlight any imperfections with dark and gold paint.
  • Decorate part of the panel with decoupage or painting.
  • Glue the finished numbers and attach the clock to the back.

You will get a picture with a clock that will decorate the interior and show the time.

Quilling

An interesting type of creativity, which is an applique of strips of paper folded into various parts. A drawing is then assembled from them.

Important! Play with contrast - openwork elements will look good only on a dark or light background.

Operating procedure:

  1. Cut the paper into strips.
  2. Using a curly ruler, twist the spirals, securing the end of the tape to a pin.
  3. Assemble the composition into one whole.
  4. Transfer the paper clock to a thick base and place it in a photo frame.

Important! Complete the watch with rhinestones that will serve as markers for the hands.

Watches made from scrap materials

A DIY wall clock made from scrap materials is an original piece of furniture. You can be sure that no one else will have anything like this. They can be made from:

  • Coffee beans, gluing them to the workpiece and decorating with twine.
  • Tin cans with vintage pattern.
  • Car wheel covers painted in bright colors.
  • Natural materials - shells, dried flowers, pine cones, spices, nuts, collected in a beautiful composition.
  • Large plates, trays, baking dishes and pans.
  • Hard drive from an old computer.
  • Covers from old books and magazines.
  • Plastic spoons and forks mounted on a round clock base.
  • Broken musical instruments.

Important! By decorating these items with painting, appliqué, and decorative materials, you will get a unique piece of furniture. The main thing is to show a little imagination.

By learning how to make a wall clock with your own hands, you can not only decorate your home and realize your creativity, but also give new life to old household items. Try to create an interesting designer item that will tell about your hobbies, taste and love for cozy things.

Beautiful wall clocks are always a source of information about time, but they also decorate the interior of an apartment and give it a special charm.

Moreover, if you think that it is very difficult to make a wall clock with your own hands, then you are deeply mistaken. This is a very real task that almost everyone can do. After all, for such a watch you do not need to assemble the mechanism itself.

Classmates

It is taken from old watches or taken out of cheap Chinese alarm clocks. And on this basis, you decorate them to your taste, taking into account the design of your apartment.

What are wall clocks made of?

If you decide to make a wall clock yourself or make a grandfather clock with your own hands, then you need to know that this can be made from almost any material. Of course, the most popular is wood. Due to its properties, watches made of wood can be made in a variety of shapes and last a long time.

Usually, not only wall clocks, but also grandfather clocks are made from this material. By the way, drawings for the manufacture of wall clocks are usually not required, but they may sometimes be needed for floor structures that have a more complex assembly.

Record clock

Plastic and other materials

Plastic watches are also popular. They are even more durable, but their production is more complex. An original watch can be made from cardboard, and the simplicity with which this can be done is surprising. As a material for a wall clock, you can use paper or, for example, gramophone records.

Note!

It’s quite possible to make a clock for the kitchen from a tin can.

The additional material used mainly for the manufacture of hands is also very diverse. These could be tree branches, buttons, pencils or wire.

Cardboard clock

As we have already said, making cardboard clocks is quite simple, so we will now tell you how to make a clock from cardboard yourself. In order to carry out this undertaking we will need the following materials and tools:

  1. Clockwork. It can be pulled out of an old unnecessary watch.
  2. A piece of corrugated cardboard. Its dimensions depend on the dimensions of your future product.
  3. Wooden disk.
  4. , PVA glue, kraft paper (special high-strength wrapping paper).
  5. (fine-grained and possibly coarse-grained), hook, decorative elements.

Paper clock

Main stages of execution

First you need to take a disk made of wood (the same goes for wooden watches), and use a hammer drill to make a hole for the clock mechanism. After this, we cut out two circles from cardboard and glue them on both sides and in one of them we also make a hole for the clock mechanism.

Having made the base for the clock, you need to cover the ends of the disk with cardboard, cutting out a piece with a width equal to the thickness of the disk and a length equal to its circumference. We fix it with PVA glue. Then you need to cover the clock with kraft paper and, on the reverse side, fix the hook with which we will hang our product on a nail. By the way, a master class on watch making can be viewed below.

DIY wall clock video:

Final work

Now we need to paint our disk black. It will be enough to do this from the front side. After the surface has dried, we make a hole for the arrows using an awl. Now we need silver paint, which contrasts as best as possible with the black color of the disk, and use it to apply the divisions and numbers on the dial. We paint the arrows with the same color. We finish our work by installing the clock mechanism and decoratively decorating the ends and edges of the disk.

Note!

This can be done, for example, using rhinestones.

As you can see from the instructions presented, almost anyone can make a watch from cardboard.

Wood clock

Let's look at how quickly you can make a wooden clock. To make them you will need the following materials and tools:

  1. Wooden disk with a diameter of 330 mm.
  2. Wooden sticks and balls of small diameter in the amount of 12 pieces.
  3. Clockwork.
  4. Sandpaper, glue, .
  5. Wire cutters and hammer drill.
  6. Black cardboard and paint in two colors.
  7. Pencil, scissors, ruler.

Step-by-step instruction

  1. Sand the disc and balls until they have a smooth surface and wipe them free of dust.
  2. We cut the wooden sticks to the same length. We choose the length ourselves.
  3. Using a punch, we will make a hole in the center of the disk intended for the arrows.
  4. Drill 12 holes at the end of the wooden disk. They will serve as grooves for sticks with balls. The distance between the disks must be the same. To do this, you need to use a protractor and make marks every thirty degrees.
  5. Pour glue into the holes and fix wooden sticks in them.
  6. At this stage of making a wooden watch, you need to treat the surface with a primer and, after drying, apply several layers of paint. The paint color, in our case, should be white.
  7. Now we need to paint the balls red (it is most suitable for a white disk). To make this convenient, we will need a piece of foam plastic and the remains of our wooden sticks. We string balls onto them and paint them, after which we insert them into a piece of foam plastic and wait for them to dry. For painting we use a spray, since it is unlikely that it will be possible to paint evenly with a brush.
  8. After drying, insert the balls into sticks and “sit” them on the glue.
  1. The final step will be to install the clock mechanism on the back of the disc and fix the hands to it. We will make the arrows from thick cardboard, painted black.

Manufacturing stages

Let's look at how to make a watch with your own hands step by step.

  1. First, we cut the paper (choose the color that suits you), in the shape of an elongated trapezoid, along the length of the dial. In this case, all pieces must be the same in size and shape. The total area of the paper should be larger than the dial, so that later you can bend the ends. Then we fix the paper to the dial with decoupage glue and wait for it to dry. After this, we bend and glue the hanging ends to the back of the dial.
  2. Apply decoupage glue to the surface of the dial in several layers. Each subsequent layer is applied to the previous one, but after complete drying. When applied correctly, the surface of the dial will become glossy.
  3. We mark the dial. This is conveniently done using a paper plate. That is, first we mark all the dots on the plate, then we apply it to the dial and put the dots on it. After that, in place of the numbers, we glue, for example, buttons or something else that your imagination is designed for.
