And even now she is able to captivate long time. Reviving this miracle was a simple matter, because... all rights were and remain with “Electronic Arts”, and this company is the most alive of all living things - it’s no secret to anyone. However, some craftsmen from Pixel Dash studios and EQ Games still decided to, in a sense, revive the forgotten series. And so, on October 4, 2017, the game “Road Redemption” is released to the people.
Let me start with the fact that it is possible to play either alone or with friends, through the good old split screen. A cooperative of up to four people is provided. Before starting the game, you need to choose which biker you will control and which iron horse he will ride. Motorcycles differ from each other in terms of speed, acceleration, maneuverability and acceleration. Bikers are... maximum health, force and various kinds bonuses, which we will talk about a little later.
Describing the plot of “Road Redemption” is like retelling the story of a porn film, but let’s take a few words: there is a $15 million bounty on the head of the killer of a gun cartel leader. 4 groups of bikers have announced a hunt for a reward and, as expected, each gang is on its own. You represent the “Jackals” group and your task is to get to the goal by outrunning your competitors.
This long path is divided into many local missions: come first to the finish line, destroy required amount adversaries in time, neutralize the boss, etc. Blades, clubs, weapon, explosives and own limbs. Of course, your opponents are not stupid idiots and will not miss the right moment to break into you. Not only representatives of one gang or another, but also single bikers and police ride along the highways, so you will be surrounded by real carnage throughout the entire journey. The player has a certain amount of health. It is replenished by picking up one of the many bonuses scattered along the track or by killing scum. Neutralizing an enemy also restores your nitro boost and rewards the player with a cash bonus. When killing an adversary in a special way (for example, cutting off a head or kicking someone into an obstacle), the reward is doubled. Upon successful completion of the next mission, you receive a reward in the form of a cash bonus and experience, after which you move on to the next task. If you fail, you also advance further, but you are penalized by 25% of your maximum health. Considering that with each next race you will be under more and more pressure, such a fine is quite noticeable.
You can spend the accumulated savings during a break between tasks. Each time you are offered random bonuses that take effect immediately after purchase. These include improving weapons, increasing health or acceleration, increasing the values of bonuses dropped, etc. Purchased improvements are cumulative and valid until the end of the game. However, not everything is so simple here. The point is that as soon as your health reaches zero, the game will be over. There are no saves or checkpoints here. Died - start all over again. All accumulated money and improvements are burned. Only experience and skills acquired for it are not reset. Skills are largely the same as game bonuses; they can be learned or improved after completing a game session. The more attempts you make to beat the game, the more skills you will learn and the easier it will be for you to beat the game next time. In addition to personal improvements, the skill tree also includes unlocking new bikes.
Road Redemption has online play, but the multiplayer is pretty mediocre in my opinion. There is only one mode here – a team race from point “A” to point “B”. Whoever comes first, second or third earns a certain number of points for their team. These points are also earned by punishing competitors throughout the race. The team that scores the most points wins the round. The game continues until three wins. Upon completion, the player increases his level progress, which helps unlock new bikes and motorcyclists, which are available separately for multiplayer.
The graphics in the game, to put it mildly, do not give off a next-genome feel and are more relevant for games that were 5 years old, but, nevertheless, given the enormous dynamics of the game, this is not very noticeable. Of course, we don’t even have to talk about the realism of what is happening. There is chaos, absurdity and chaos of the absurd all around, but it is obvious that the emphasis was certainly not on realism. I will say more - even a small fraction of plausibility would simply destroy the entire atmosphere of local madness. Explosions are heard everywhere, bullets whistle, bikes and cars crash, and all this is accompanied by breakneck speed and powerful guitar riffs.
"Road Redemption" rightfully deserves the title of the new "Road Rash". Dynamic, brutal and cool. Just the thing to unwind after a hard time working day. Hit, smash, shoot, explode and don’t even think about slowing down!
