Solid wood furniture is confidently gaining popularity among consumers. It is beautiful, environmentally friendly, and has high performance characteristics. Having solid wood furniture in your home is prestigious, so it will be in demand, and therefore bring profit. But how to create a worthy offer?

Features of the organization and development of solid wood furniture production

When planning to open a business producing solid furniture, you should pay attention to several general nuances:

  1. Solid wood furniture- a product of the highest price category. But the expensive cost of production will not be repaid only by the concept of “naturalness” - there must be originality, an idea, an interesting design and high quality at all stages of the technological process from the purchase of raw materials to packaging and proper storage of the finished product;
  2. The main buyer of such furniture– people with above-average income. Assess the consumer segment in your region - will it meet your expectations?
  3. Solid wood furniture characterized by strength and durability, so it will not be replaced soon due to operational wear. But because of the change in interior design - yes. Therefore, an enterprise with a serial production cycle must be prepared to constantly develop its assortment, monitor new ideas and fashion trends in order to anticipate the desires of the buyer;
  4. The best option for a small enterprise producing solid wood furniture– work for specific orders.
  5. So that production does not stand idle, you need to have an extensive dealer network. At the initial stage, it is not necessary to open your own showrooms. It will be quite enough to issue an advertising catalog with a range of products and agreements with construction companies, stores, etc. It wouldn’t hurt to acquire your own Internet resource with product advertisements, production photos and contacts - today many consumers are looking for furniture through the World Wide Web.
  6. Demand for solid wood furniture characterized by seasonality: from May to August sales fall (July-August and January are considered “low season”, during which production may be idle); from September to April - they increase. Peak activity occurs in November-December.

Organizational issues for starting a business

Legal form, documents and standards

The choice of business form depends on the planned production volumes. At the initial stage, you can limit yourself to private entrepreneurship, especially if you produce custom-made furniture in small quantities. But if mass production is planned, you cannot do without a law firm. For ease of mutual settlements with suppliers and customers (legal entities, government agencies), the easiest way is to choose an LLC on the general taxation system.

A license is not required for the production of solid wood furniture, but in order for the product to receive a quality certificate, compliance with the following norms and standards is required:

  • GOST 16371-93 “Furniture. General technical conditions";
  • GOST 19917-93 “Furniture for sitting and lying down. General technical conditions";
  • GOST 19194-73 “Furniture. Method for determining the fastening strength of furniture legs";
  • GOST 13715-78 “Joiner slabs. Technical specifications";
  • GOST R 54208-2010 “Protective and decorative coatings on furniture made of wood and wood materials. Classification and designations."

Choice OKVED depends on what exactly is planned to be produced and how the products will be sold (wholesale, retail).

The following activity codes may be useful:

  • 36.12 Production of furniture for offices and trade enterprises;
  • 36.13 Production of kitchen furniture;
  • 36.14 Manufacture of other furniture
  • 51.15.1 Activities of agents in the wholesale trade of household furniture;
  • 51.47.11 Wholesale trade of household furniture;
  • 52.44.1 Retail sale of furniture;
  • 52.44.5 Retail sale of wood, cork and wickerwork;
  • 52.61.2 Retail trade carried out directly through television, radio, telephone and the Internet;

Raw materials for the production of solid wood furniture: wood differs from wood

To make furniture from solid wood you can use:

  • ready-made furniture panels (GOST 13715-78),
  • edged solid board (edged board GOST 8486-86).

The most popular types of wood: pine, birch, beech, hornbeam, alder, larch.

The fittings can be either domestic or imported (at the request of the customer). Handles and fasteners made of stainless steel, bronze, and chrome-plated steel enjoy the greatest “trust” from buyers.

Pay special attention to paint and varnish products - they are selected depending on the type and properties of wood, and must comply with GOST 31093-2003 “Furniture paint and varnish materials. General technical conditions".

Requirements for a production facility for the manufacture of solid wood furniture

The size of the room depends on the production capacity, but in any case you should count on the following divisions:

  • dryer - a place where boards or boards will “ripen” for launch into production;
  • a workshop where woodworking machines will be located;
  • assembly room;
  • room for paint and varnish works;
  • finished goods warehouse.

The main requirement for a mini-factory for the production of wood furniture– possibility of heating and control of humidity levels in all rooms. The remaining requirements are standard: the presence of a 3-phase network, access roads and a platform for unloading raw materials, ventilation, and water.

Solid wood furniture production technology

There are two production cycle options:

  • short– the raw materials for furniture production are ready-made panels, which are sanded, sawn to fit certain parts and varnished;
  • full– the raw materials are boards, which are first converted into panels, and then parts for furniture are made.

The first way is optimal for small productions with small volumes. The second is beneficial for large and medium-sized enterprises.

The complete technological process for the production of solid wood furniture looks like this:

1. It all starts with an idea for the production of furniture, a certain type and design, which is translated into a working sketch. For example, for this production process of making furniture from wood, the idea was a bed with spacious floor niches and rounded corners.

2. Based on the design sketch, designers and technologists develop three-dimensional models and working drawings of the future product.

3. Pine board was chosen for production. Soft wood from coniferous trees is easy to process, resistant to fungus and mold, and has a positive effect on health. Pine is supplied to production in the form of boards, with natural humidity levels of 40-60%.

4. The board must be well dried, so it is sent to the drying chamber - a room where, with the help of fans, hot air is pumped directly onto the racks with raw materials. The board is dried for 10-12 days, until its humidity drops to 80% of the original values.

5. The prepared board is sent to dismantle the furniture board. A multi-saw machine removes the bark and cuts the board into pieces according to specified dimensions.

6. Of the resulting lamellas, only the central parts, without the bark, will go into production (the remains are used to heat the drying chamber to reduce heating and electricity costs).

7. Using a cross cutting machine, knots, resin pockets, areas with bent fibers and other defects are cut out.

There is strong wood tension inside the wood monolith, which is why solid wood products often warp and crack. Sawing the wood compensates for this stress, so solid wood furniture is stronger and more durable than solid wood.

8. To obtain lamellas for furniture, the bars must be joined along the length. To do this, the workpieces are laid out on the table, aligned along the edge and pressed with a press from above and on the sides.

9. A rotating saw cuts out a tongue-and-groove joint in the fixed workpieces. Then the lamellas are turned over and the joint for joining is cut out from the reverse side. The “tenon and groove” is similar to a ridge, which creates additional area for gluing the workpieces into a single shield.

10. The lamellas are placed on a joining machine, which is equipped with special compression rollers that guide the workpieces so that the tenons fit into the grooves.

11. When the programmed length is reached, the lamellas are cut and sent to the press. The tenon and groove close together, forming a strong connection.

12. The lamellas are sanded on both sides, glued together fan press taking into account guide fibers and annual rings to prevent warping and cracking of the future product. The shield is held in the press for 40-50 minutes - the time required for the glue to harden.

13. On a band dividing machine, the shield is formed into the required dimensions, after which the lamella is planed on a thickness planer on each side.

14. On a calibrating grinding machine, the shield acquires a given thickness by sawing into sheets of certain sizes.

15. Since soft wood is used in production, in order to give the product strength, it is necessary to protect the solid wood by “wrapping” all parts with veneer finishing. Veneer from hardwood is prepared separately: it is trimmed and sorted by hand according to the shade and structure of the wood.

16. The sorted strips are sewn together in a zigzag fashion with hot-melt thread, which gives the joint additional strength.

17. The method of gluing veneer to a furniture panel depends on what shape the part needs to be veneered:

  • flat slabs veneered on a press - the veneer is pressed against the board, on which the adhesive base is applied, for 3 minutes under a pressure of 2 atm;
  • complex radius parts, which are manufactured separately - on a membrane-vacuum press.

18. The lined parts are sent to a drilling and filler machine, the program of which includes the development of fastening holes for future joining of furniture parts.

19. The production of individual pieces of furniture takes place on automated machines according to specified parameters. The drilling group makes all the necessary cuts and cuts. Here the veneer edge is applied to the cuts.

20. Finished parts are sent to the control assembly of the product, where the following is checked:

  • accuracy of parts joining,
  • presence of all holes,
  • equipment,
  • size matching.

After inspection, the product is disassembled and sent for sanding and painting.

21. All parts are sanded 3 times (abrasives of different grain sizes are used). Not only the smoothness of the product, but also the uniform coating of varnish and paint depends on the quality of grinding.

22. Painting is carried out in a room with a water curtain, which removes the suspension of stain and varnish.

The process occurs in several stages:

  • stain tinting,
  • drying,
  • applying 3 layers of polyurethane varnish (with each layer drying for at least 2 hours),
  • painting (depending on the design of the model).

23. After the varnish has completely dried (at least 16 hours), the product is packaged and sent to the finished products warehouse.

Equipment for the production of solid wood furniture

As practice shows, solid wood furniture manufacturers rarely use full technological cycle, preferring to buy ready-made furniture panels made from various types of wood, veneered or with another coating for a specific batch of orders.

Second option - separate these two productions: make a shield both for your own needs and for sale in a workshop located near the raw material base (logging). And furniture production should be concentrated separately, closer to sales markets.

But to calculate the business plan, let’s consider the full cycle option. For production you will need the following equipment:

  • Circular saw machine for cutting wide boards – RUB 68,000,
  • Jointer – 70,000 rub.,
  • Thicknessing machine – 136,000 rubles.
  • Drilling and grooving machine – 51,000 rub.,
  • Milling machine – 75,000 rub.,
  • Turning and milling copying machine – RUB 153,000,
  • Grinding machine – 78,200 rub.,
  • Paint gun, painting stand – RUB 136,000,
  • Auxiliary tools – RUB 70,000.

Total: 837,200 rub.

Business plan for the production of solid wood furniture

1. Planning

It is planned to open a mini-factory for the production of solid wood furniture.

2. Raw materials

Raw materials will be purchased from timber industry enterprises and intermediaries. At the initial stage, there are no plans to purchase equipment for sawing workpieces in the form of round timber, so the raw materials mean sawn and dried boards.

Materials required for production:

  • oak, which has undergone initial processing (sawing, drying) - 8500 rub./1m 3;
  • accessories– at the request of the customer, from 50 to 340 rubles;
  • paints and varnishes– 170 rubles/liter (consumption 150 g/1m2).

3. Implementation

Sales of finished products will be carried out through dealers and our own warehouse store. 50 m2 of production space will be allocated for the store and equipped as an exhibition salon.

4. Production workshop

The production workshop is planned to be rented. Area – 200 m2, rent – 50,000 rubles/month.

5. Finished products

Finished products (cabinets) are planned to be sold at 10,800 rubles/m. (the price will vary depending on the complexity of manufacturing various furniture and the type of fittings).

6. Staff and salary

Employees:

  • director,
  • accountant,
  • constructor-designer,
  • technologist,
  • carpenters-machine operators (6 people),
  • cutter,
  • auxiliary workers (2 people).

Payroll – 93,840 rubles/month.

7. Output volumes

Planned output volume: 360 l.m./year.

8. Attracting investments

To launch production, it is planned to attract investments (bank loan) in the amount of 1,707,000 rubles.

Of which 837,200 rub. will be used to purchase the necessary equipment, the remainder will be used to purchase raw materials, supplies, rent and other aspects of the enterprise’s economic activities.

9. Costs and costs

Calculation of costs and prime cost of solid wood furniture (for example, an oak cabinet)

Cost of 1 m.p. furniture = (Fixed costs/Annual output) + Variable costs.

Fixed costs

Fixed costs (calculated per year) include:

  • rental of premises – 600,000 rubles,
  • utilities – RUB 81,600,
  • depreciation – 166,600 rubles,
  • salary – 1,126,080 rubles,
  • taxes on wages (37.5%) – 422,280 rubles,
  • advertising costs – 81,600 rubles.

Total: RUB 2,478,160

Unforeseen expenses (reserve fund -2% of the amount of fixed costs) – 49,563.20 rubles.

Total fixed costs – 2,527,723.2 rubles.

Variable costs

Variable costs (calculation per unit of production):

  • raw materials - 0.143 m 3 * 8500 rubles = 1215.50 rubles,
  • paint and varnish materials – (7.3 m 3 * 150 g) = 1.095 l * 170 rubles/liter = 186.15 rubles,
  • accessories - (2 handles, 4 staples, screws, screws) = 170 rub.

Total: RUB 1,571.65

Calculation of product costs for the first year of operation: 2,527,723.2/360 + 1,571.65 = RUB 8,593.10

10. Break-even point

Break-even point calculation = Fixed costs / (Profit for 1 product – Variable costs for 1 product) = 2,527,723.2/ (10,800-1,571.65) = 273.91 m.p.

Break-even of the enterprise will be ensured by the sale of 273.91 cubic meters in the first year of production.

11. Financial results - forecast

Projected financial results for the first year of operation:

  • Revenue = (RUB 10,800 * 360 m.p.) = RUB 3,888,000,
  • Cost = (8593.1* 360 m.p.) = 3,093,516 rubles,
  • Profit from sales = (3,888,000 - 3,093,516) = 794,484 rubles,
  • Loan payments (% per year) = RUB 256,065.90,
  • Income tax = (794,484 - 256,065.90) = 107,683.62 rubles,
  • Net profit = (794,484 - 256,065.90 - 107,683.62) = 430,734.48 rubles

12. Calculation of profitability and payback

Product profitability= (Profit from sales/Cost) * 100% = (RUB 794,484 /RUB 3,093,516) * 100% = 26%.

Profit rate= (Net profit/Investment) * 100% = (RUB 430,734.48/1,707,000) * 100% = 25%

The payback period of the project is 3 years, 9 months.
