For many years, Philips has been pleasing a wide range of music lovers of all stripes with its relatively good headphones. The famous brand is positioning an updated version of the aging flagship Philips Fidelio X2 as a worthy successor to the family "Fidelio X". And you know what, they don't lie. There are often cases when a subsequent update turns out to be an order of magnitude less interesting than its predecessor. In our case this cannot be said. There are more than enough positive improvements in sound-emitting accessories.

Headphones included

The first thing you should do is go over what you are purchasing. Having made the payment and received the coveted box, inside you will find a detachable cable of three meters. Part length is universal. It is enough for home use, and with the help of an everyday trick in the form of an “elastic band” it can be shortened, making the cord suitable for everyday use. The cable itself is made from popular acid-free copper. On top of it there is a “sandwich” of silicone winding, hidden under a fabric braid. At the reverse end there is a standard 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack. I said about home use for a reason. Included with the headphones is an adapter for a standard jack, which allows you to connect headphones to stationary amplifiers. There is no point in mentioning documentation and other waste paper. But the lack of a cover is a minus. But overall not critical.

Fidelio X2 design

The visual appearance is partly deceptive. Taking a closer look at the open configuration of headphones, many immediately rule out the possibility of using devices in public places. Yes, you are probably right, but if you spend some time searching for information, you will be surprised at the abundance of upgrades for this model. In particular, we are talking about changing the configuration to a closed type with completely insignificant losses in sound volume. But more on that later. Visually, the headphones are very, very similar to the established Fidelio line. This means a lot of common similarities when developing a design. The headband is equipped with an unusual fit regulator. The two-stage design allows you to literally adjust the “ears” to both small and voluminous heads. The material is classified as “eco”, that is, you are unlikely to see leather. At first glance, the overall design seems flimsy, but in fact it’s a deception. High-quality plastic and metal are used in the production of the model. In particular, pay attention to the extraordinary locking of the cups, which allows them to be rotated along a vertical axis.

The cups themselves are covered on the outside with a massive protective mesh with large cells. This gesture seems to hint that we cannot do without cleaning. So get ready to spend time putting your “ears” in order every few months. The inside is lined with massive ear pads in velor trim. Memory effect is present. The slit between the sides is large and allows you to accommodate “little elephant ears.” The cable connects to the right cup from the bottom. In general, there are no inconveniences when using home.

Ease of use of headphones

I repeat. The ear pads are large and deep, so they will cover ears of almost any size. They are made of velor, which gets a little warm when listening to audio tracks for a long time. But overall, after a couple of hours of active use without a break, I did not feel any discomfort. Leaving them on the table, he opened the window and went to have lunch. When I returned, I realized that velor ear pads are the best dust collector. The lack of a protective case-bag again reminded us of itself. How he is missed! Having put the headphones in his work case, he headed outside.

The noise insulation of this model leaves much to be desired. Here it is worth recalling positioning again. Philips Fidelio X2 They are intended more for home use, but physically no one can prohibit you from using them on the street. True, you will quickly change your mind about pleasing others with your favorite music. An additional demotivator is the missing “mobile capabilities”.

There are no short cables included with the headset for gadgets on the platform , iOS. The three-meter black fabric-braided cable makes it clear that you won’t go far with it; when you walk, it rubs against your clothes. The fabric braid gives a good microphone effect and loud sound.

The headphones are large in size and cannot be folded, so you will need a backpack or bag for transportation. The open-type acoustic design will not allow you to ignore the world around you, so you won’t be able to listen to them, for example, on the subway. They let ambient sounds inside, and all the music being played is perfectly audible outside.

An excellent option for the home, but it’s unlikely to be able to come up with another use case for them.

Sound from Fidelio X2

For the first time trying to characterize the sound Philips Fidelio X2, the thought comes about its softness and enveloping effect. The creators had a clear idea of the ideal sound and tried to recreate it in this device.

There are different opinions about this model, some think that the sound is too dark, the bass is dominant, and the highs are not strong enough. Others, on the contrary, talk about a lack of bass and an excess of highs. These two opposing opinions have a rational grain. The Fidelio X2 has a clear uplifted, velvety mid-bass. There is practically no lower bass in the background, which is compensated by the abundance of lower mids. Therefore, there is a lack of bass Philips Fidelio X2 Definitely not, even on the contrary, while listening to compositions where bass prevails, the headphones vibrate and tickle the ears a little.

To neutralize the bass and give the sound purity and airiness, the creators raised the top a little - around 10 kHz. The sound is warm, plentiful, but at the same time pleasing with airiness. The upper mids are muted and, together with the powerful bass, provide a soft sound. Due to the lack of ringing notes in these headphones, the violin can be confused with a cello, the vocals lack emotion, and the guitar sounds a little distant. But for listening to music as background X2 fit perfectly. They help you concentrate and do not distract you from other activities. On tracks overloaded with bass, the device will sound “wobbly” and a “bubbling” sound will appear. Due to the open acoustic design, the sound is much wider than in closed headphones with similar characteristics.

Drawing conclusions about headphones

Philips Fidelio X2 will be a profitable purchase that corresponds to its value. But it all depends on your requirements for the device. Decide whether you need open-type acoustic design. Keep in mind that not everyone can appreciate the soft sound, the weak side of which is the obvious lack of formality of the audio images.

Model Fidelio X2 turned out to be homey, like indoor slippers. The headphones fit comfortably on your head and the sound is soft. An ideal option for sitting at home in a soft chair by a burning fireplace, thinking about the sublime and enjoying your favorite compositions.

Advantages:

  • Warm, wide sound
  • Ergonomic fit
  • air sound
  • Even after prolonged listening, hearing does not get tired
  • Abundant bass

Flaws:

  • Due to the open-type acoustic design, it is inconvenient to use headphones in public places, so they are an exclusively home option.
  • Minimum equipment
  • Detail is not at the highest level
  • There is practically no sub-bass, but it is compensated by a powerful mid-bass
  • There is blurriness and unclear sound

Philips Fidelio X2 will be a profitable purchase that lives up to its price.

They have many advantages. The main thing among them is that the user has the opportunity, without disturbing anyone, to calmly watch a movie or just listen to music. Headphones, the review of which is presented in this article, appeared on the market relatively recently. The manufacturing company positions them as a premium model for amateur use.

The successful shape provides excellent sound insulation and excellent sound quality. In this regard, the user can be completely immersed in the musical world, forgetting about the headphones on his head.

general description

The device is a classic full-size open-type model, made of fairly high quality materials. The main structure of the headphones is made of metal. Many users note that the large headband is very soft. One cannot help but pay attention to the large cups covered with a pleasant-to-touch velor. External parts are made of soft plastic. They look very solid, but here in some places the joints are visible, which creates a certain discomfort from an aesthetic point of view. The standard equipment of the device includes a removable wire in a fabric braid, the length of which is three meters, as well as a 6.3 mm adapter.

Design and ergonomics

Speaking about the design of the headphones, it is necessary to emphasize the fact that the use of high-quality materials provides the device with a very solid appearance. There are no special complaints about the assembly. Despite their large size, the headphones are quite lightweight.

An air hammock is attached under the headband, which ensures a comfortable fit. Moreover, the device is practically not felt on the head and quickly adapts to its shape. The ears do not become numb even after prolonged use of the new product, which makes it very convenient for watching movies.

Main characteristics

The headphones are a wired modification, and therefore there is no point in talking about controls. Equipping with Layered Motion Control drivers can be called the main highlight in the technical equipment. Reviews from many users indicate that thanks to this, mid and high frequencies are reproduced as clearly as possible while listening to music. The developers used a composite diaphragm in the model, the size of which is 50 millimeters. It consists of several layers of polymer, between which there is a gel layer. To successfully suppress inner ear reflections, the earcups are positioned at a 15-degree angle to the ear canal. According to representatives of the manufacturer, the frequency range of the device ranges from 5 to 40 kHz.

Sound and acoustics

The model is considered semi-studio type headphones. Their use helps the owner to fully experience the entire musical gamut of the melody being played. Reviews from device owners indicate that when listening to songs, there is a feeling of complete immersion, regardless of what style of music a particular track belongs to.

Thanks to the use of an open acoustic design, there is no pressure behind the sound emitter and the diaphragm moves freely. This is the key to transparent and pure sound. Low resistance cable along with double cups reduces interference. The headphones sound very loud, so the device can even be used as a kind of speakers. It should be noted that during production, each speaker is carefully tested and tuned, after which pairs are selected, which also ensures detailed natural sound.

Flaws

As in other models from this manufacturer, the so-called leakage of headphones is more than 50 percent. In other words, people around you will also hear the music. In this case, even low volume will not help. In this regard, there is no need to talk about evening solitude watching a film. Another disadvantage is that to fully develop the potential of the device, the use of special equipment is required, in particular an amplifier and Hi-Fi equipment.

conclusions

To summarize, one cannot fail to mention the cost. The price of headphones in domestic stores starts at 12 thousand rubles. In general, the model can be called very successful and high quality, because a lot of effort was spent on its creation.

The need to additionally purchase auxiliary equipment, as recommended by the manufacturer, is undoubtedly a big disadvantage and scares off many buyers. This is not surprising, because if a person wants to listen to his favorite music, good headphones should be enough for him. Be that as it may, even without improvements, the model provides high sound quality, which, combined with an attractive design and convenient design, cannot leave any music lover indifferent. All this makes headphones very popular in our country.

Three models. Three opinions. 10% discount. And one cultural shock.

What are we talking about?

We're talking about devices from Philips Fidelio. In addition to the Philips team, the people responsible for the legendary guitars and equipment work closely on this product line Gibson. The popularity of Gibsons is known far beyond the music industry, but if you need proof, check it out volume a separate article on Wikipedia dedicated to the musicians who own these instruments.

When musicians and experts make equipment for themselves, it can be seen (and heard) from afar. And if you season it with marketing, you also get a very worthy product, which is not a shame;)

More seriously, Fidelio is an attempt to combine classics and modern technologies in the middle price segment. The headphones can be considered a challenge to sub-brands from Asia, capable only of design and pompous “show-off”: they also worked on the sound, this is immediately obvious.

At the same time, Philips is not limited to any one ultimate model. The assortment includes portable headphones, home headphones, “special” ones (for example), and, of course, amateur-professional ones.

On our table are Fidelio F1, L2 And X2. Personally, I listened to the last ones, and there were a lot of impressions.

Crystal Precision

It’s not for nothing that the Philips line of “Fidelio” headphones bears its name, derived from the English word “Fidelity”, which can be translated as “precision”. The headphones in this series are very different detailed And clean sound. Moreover, this definition applies to all models, from to. And the L2 model is no exception.

I have been familiar with headphones from Philips for a long time. The old headphones are many years old and they still work. Of course, after 10 years, the headband mount broke and had to be repaired with two screws, but what is most important is that the cord is intact and everything is in order with the ear pads, but usually it is the cord and sound transmission that suffers and fails.

I would never have thought that there could be such a huge box for headphones :)

instructions

I really liked one phrase in the instructions:

“There are some things in life that are better enjoyed alone. And Philips Fidelio X2 headphones guarantee you this pleasure"

Yes, I don’t want to share these headphones with anyone :)

The Fidelio X2 features a new, low-resistance, detachable cable. This is a reinforced Kevlar cable with a fabric braid. The cable is equipped with a convenient clip-clip to prevent tangling. The connection connector is 3.5 mm, a convenient connector for connecting to any gadget. In other technology, you can connect using a 6.3 mm adapter

At home, such a long cable is very convenient.

For example, to connect to a TV or other equipment.

The headphones look incredibly solid. You pick it up and understand - serious equipment for serious purposes.

The self-adjusting headband features lightweight, breathable mesh to ensure a perfect fit on any head. The headband is equipped with a hinge system and metal tubes covered with natural calf leather.

This is the first time I’ve seen metal in the design of headphones, it looks very cool.

Double-layer earcups provide impeccable and highly detailed sound for any type of music.

The 50mm drivers use high-power neodymium magnets. Thanks to the use of a multi-layer diaphragm, superior highs, rich bass and natural mids are achieved.

The removable ear pads are made from premium memory foam and covered in soft velor. The ear pads are soft to the touch and feel great on your ears, isolating you and your music from outside noise.

Even by connecting a regular phone to headphones, the difference in music becomes immediately visible. Just heaven and earth compared to old headphones. It’s as if a new world is opening up and details that you haven’t heard before become audible.

Now there is absolutely no desire to part with the new headphones and listen to the radio, music, watch movies and TV shows only with the help of Fidelio X2.

And yes, I want to enjoy new sounds alone and not share with anyone :)

In 2012, Philips released the Fidelio X1 headphones, a flagship model with an open acoustic design. For its sound signature, build quality and high price-quality ratio, the model received many laudatory reviews - both from the specialized press and from ordinary consumers. In many ways, with this model, Philips stepped on the heels of well-known audiophile brands with their more expensive Hi-End headphones. Philips recently released a new top model – Fidelio X2. What has changed in the new product and did Philips engineers manage to correct the minor shortcomings of the Fidelio X1? The answers are in our review.

Design and Construction

At first glance, the design of the X1 and X2 do not differ from each other - these are full-size open-type headphones made of premium materials. But while the X1 had brown and silver accents in its design, the X2 went all-black. Most of the headphones' construction is metal (machined brushed aluminum), which gives them reliability and a solid appearance. Looking at the specs, you'll notice that weight has been reduced from 430 grams for the X1 to 380 grams for the X2. This, of course, has a positive effect on comfort during long-term listening.

The headband has become a little larger, which will please listeners with large heads, who noted the insufficient size of the headband on the Fidelio X1 model. The headband is covered in calfskin and has a very comfortable and elastic pad for automatic size adjustment (similar to AKG headphones).

Most often, the disadvantages of the previous model were the ear pads - large, filled with memory foam and covered with soft velor - they provided excellent comfort, but for some reason they turned out to be non-removable. Philips Fidelio X2 received replaceable ear pads, you don’t have to worry that they will wear out over time - now they can be easily replaced with new ones, and they can be removed without any problems - no bolts or other complex fasteners.

The headphone package remains the same - a three-meter detachable fabric-braided cable (3.5 mm mini-jacks on both ends) and a 6.3 mm adapter. Not the richest set for a flagship, but the Philips Fidelio X2 also costs less than many competitors in this class.

Sound

Philips has prepared new Layered Motion Control (LMC) drivers for the flagship. The diameter of the diaphragm remains the same (50 mm), but now it is composite: it consists of several layers of polymer with a layer of damping gel. This solution equalizes the frequency response in the mid and high frequencies. The drivers are positioned at a 15° angle to the ear canal to suppress inner ear reflections and enhance stereo imaging.

According to Philips, the frequency range of the Fidelio X2 has been expanded to 5-40 kHz (versus 10-40 kHz for the X1). Impedance, maximum input power and sensitivity remain the same at 30 ohms / 500 mW / 100 dB@1 mW respectively. Thanks to the impedance and sensitivity, the headphones can even be used with a phone or tablet. However, to unlock its full potential, Fidelio X2 should be used in conjunction with Hi-Fi equipment (high-quality DACs and headphone amplifier). In addition, the model is open and intended primarily for home use – it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to enjoy music with the X2 on public transport.

Typically, open-back headphones have a more natural sound with a wide soundstage. The price to pay for this is sound leakage to the outside and often a “weak” response in the low frequencies. However, Philips managed to achieve a warm and rich sound with powerful bass already in the Fidelio X1. In the new flagship, these qualities are not only preserved, but also improved.

The improvement in sound of the Fidelio X2 versus the X1 is obvious. The headphones cope noticeably better with voices, brass instruments, drum cymbals and small nuances in the high frequencies. The bass is booming and full-bodied, but it has become more balanced and better controlled. The sound signature of Fidelio X2 and X1 is similar, but the new flagship sounds “more mature”. The response across the entire frequency range is smoother, which will certainly appeal to audiophiles and personal audio enthusiasts. Music is reproduced more pleasantly and naturally, but at the same time it is still exciting, without monitor dryness.
