The first thoughts of making homemade accessories for a walk-behind tractor appear after the need to transport cargo, so my epic with useful accessories for a walk-behind tractor began and I was the first to make a homemade trailer cart.

We make homemade products for the walk-behind tractor with our own hands

To quickly and efficiently cultivate the soil, you need to make homemade “crow’s feet” cutters for a walk-behind tractor, which will mix the soil to a sufficient depth and break up hard clods.

A homemade rake for a walk-behind tractor is also a useful attachment. It is best to have several of these different types of rakes.

Every gardener will also need a homemade hiller for a walk-behind tractor. The hiller will allow you to form smooth and high ridges in all beds with root crops.
A homemade blade for a walk-behind tractor will make it easier to remove snow and sand from the land and create good conditions for further tillage.

Homemade rake for walk-behind tractor

If you wish, you can easily make a homemade rake for a walk-behind tractor. For wide-grip hay rakes, you can use regular water pipes that differ in diameter. You will need to put a special bushing on the round rod, then tap its surface, turning it slightly.

When making, a round rod is best suited. Most parts of the rake are held together by electric welding, since this method is simple, and at the same time a reliable design is obtained.

Greater design simplicity can be achieved if the rotating parts on the axes are fixed without rolling bearings.

It is better to make the hay rake for the walk-behind tractor foldable, as this will simplify their transportation.

How to make a homemade blade for a walk-behind tractor

The walk-behind tractor can serve as a bulldozer for leveling soil, clearing sidewalks or roads from dirt and snow. To do this, you need to make a homemade blade on a walk-behind tractor, usually sheet metal 1-2 mm thick is used. Four steel ribs (stiffeners) from a sheet 3-4 mm thick are welded inside the blade.

Holes are drilled into them locally to fasten the blade with the rods in a strictly vertical position in relation to the front of the walk-behind tractor. It is also better to sheathe the bottom of the blade with tin so that it does not bury itself in the ground.

  • 1 – dump sheet (tin);
  • 2 – 4-piece stand (stiffening ribs);
  • 3 – bottom sheet of the dump (tin);
  • 4 – knife; 5 – linkage mounting eye.

Convenient homemade seeder for walk-behind tractor

Conventionally, seeders for walk-behind tractors are divided according to the number of simultaneously sown rows - from 1 to 5; vegetable seeders and precision seeders are also distinguished.
Vegetable seeders are used for dotted sowing of vegetables: carrots, onions, beets. The device for feeding seeds is driven by the support-drive wheels of the sections. In addition, the rotation speed of the device is regulated by replaceable sprockets.

Precision seeding vegetable seeders have a brush sowing device. In such a device, a rotating brush stirs up a layer of seeds in a hopper so that they fall out into a hole located in its rear wall. The hole is closed by a rotary disk having holes of different diameters. By turning the disk, you can change the size of the holes and thus change the seed sowing rate.

A homemade seeder for a walk-behind tractor is usually connected to the walk-behind tractor using a universal hitch, thanks to which the walk-behind tractor can be equipped with two-row and four-row seeders.

Homemade shovel for walk-behind tractor

The walk-behind tractor often acts as a bulldozer, leveling the soil and also clearing sidewalks or roads of dirt and snow. It is equipped with a blade shovel.

You can make a homemade shovel for a walk-behind tractor without any difficulty if you have a grinder, a drill and a welding machine on your farm.

You won’t have to search for a suitable metal for a long time, since an ordinary two-hundred-liter steel barrel will be suitable for making a shovel-dump. By carefully cutting it into three parts, you will get three curved segments for a shovel. By welding two of them along the contour, you will get a blade shovel with a metal thickness of 3 mm, which is quite enough for the required rigidity of the blade blade.

Making a homemade disc hiller for a walk-behind tractor

We start making a homemade disk hiller for a walk-behind tractor by searching for lids from steel pans that are unnecessary on the farm (preferably not enameled, but simply metal). The required diameter is approximately 40-50 cm, taking into account the fact that the depth of germination of potato roots into the ground is no more than 15-20 cm. Next, we sharpen the blades of the lids, and in our case they are already hiller discs, on a grinding machine. If the lids are flat, then they are slightly bent to one side with a hammer.

Next, in order to make a convenient hiller, you need to make a cart to which the disks that move the soil will be attached. This can be a structure made of pipes and bushings; we attach small support wheels to its lower frame.

After this, you can proceed to testing such a hiller directly in the potato plot of the garden.

How to make a homemade plow for a walk-behind tractor

Is it necessary to make a plow for a walk-behind tractor if you don’t have any special metalworking skills? Yes, it's worth it. The design of this agricultural implement is quite simple and therefore anyone can make a homemade plow for a walk-behind tractor correctly.

Before you begin to implement your plan, you need to look through the previous posts on our website, where we described the manufacturing process in detail with drawings.

Professional tools are best suited for the job; they will allow you to perform all technological operations with your own hands at the required level and at the same time maintain their quality. An amateur tool is unsuitable for such work because its level of strength is insufficient to perform some of the operations.

Homemade crow's feet cutter for walk-behind tractor

This is an all-welded, non-dismountable steel cutter, which gives it significantly greater strength than conventional cultivator cutters. A homemade crow's foot cutter for a walk-behind tractor shows great efficiency and is successfully used when plowing hard soil. It can be aggregated with almost any walk-behind tractor or cultivator with a suitable axle diameter.

The “crow’s feet” cutter is very good to use when plowing the land for planting potatoes, especially if the soil is hard with large clods of earth, or when, to prevent the Colorado potato beetle, wireworms and other garden pests, you need to quickly plow the garden “in the winter.”

“Crow’s feet” are usually sold unsharpened, and many gardeners who have already tested these cutters recommend sharpening them for easier and faster plowing.

Below are drawings of a homemade crow's feet milling cutter with a diameter of 520 mm, a grip of 1250 mm, and a total number of beams of 30 pcs. 3 pcs. per section. The beam is bolted to the coils.

When plowing the soil with such a cutter, it loosens and rises to a depth of an average of 40 to 100 mm, depending on humidity.

Attachments for walk-behind tractors have always been of particular interest to DIYers. The simple and at the same time universal design of the power unit of medium and heavy walk-behind tractors allows you to create several types of mounted implements. This means that all these relatively simple devices will make the walk-behind tractor a real competitor to the modern tractor.

Homemade attachments for walk-behind tractors

For medium and high power walk-behind tractors today, suppliers and manufacturers offer a huge amount of attachments and accessories that provide mechanization of many operations. However, despite such attractive offers and ready-made options for supplying kits, many owners prefer to make attachments for the walk-behind tractor with their own hands. And the reason is not that homemade ones are cheaper. Not at all, if we take the cost of materials, then this is absolutely not true. The problem lies elsewhere. Do-it-yourself tools for a walk-behind tractor are, for the most part, tools that are universally selected according to their quality parameters and meet the needs of a specific person.

This approach to the formation of a fleet of agricultural machinery makes it possible to take into account in the process of designing and assembling equipment all possible features of both the site and the owner himself.

The equipment being developed for the unit is conventionally divided into equipment:

  • universal purpose;
  • highly specialized focus;
  • auxiliary equipment and devices to simplify the control of the walk-behind tractor.

Universal means include, first of all, adapters and various types of trailers, which make them a universal transport platform both for transporting goods and as a convenient vehicle. Some models of walk-behind tractors are capable of reaching speeds of up to 25 km per hour. Although the comfort of a mini tractor is still far away here, you no longer have to walk.

Highly specialized types of equipment are most often designed to perform only 1 or a maximum of 2 operations. However, these are the tools that are most in demand in terms of consumer qualities for high-quality soil cultivation, performing operations to care for crops, harvesting feed, and even used in construction. In part, it should be noted that among special-purpose homemade products, relatively simple types of tools predominate - plows, cutters, etc. This is something that can be done from scrap materials and using the simplest power tools. But more complex elements are manufactured using units from other equipment.

And, of course, what makes it easier to control is a counterweight on the walk-behind tractor, wheel weights and anti-slip chains - all this allows you to work with the unit all year round.

Homemade products for walk-behind tractor

The question of where to start designing attachments for walk-behind tractors is quite reasonable. The fact is that almost all walk-behind tractors are equipped with factory-made trailers designed for the use of standard types of equipment. It is necessary to clarify, however, that it is the standard equipment that does not satisfy the needs of customers - trailed systems turn out to be too delicate and fragile when used in harsh operating conditions.

For domestic walk-behind tractors, trailers are mainly made of welded steel, but for mass Chinese production it is mainly cast iron or a metal alloy. It is clear that for one body plow even the most powerful cast iron adapter will not withstand.

Therefore, the first thing you need to create is a do-it-yourself plow towed to a walk-behind tractor. Here, it is better to take the standard design as the basis of the design - the adapter is a hinge with the ability to fix the plow in different positions, which is especially convenient for plowing small areas when a plow is used with both a left and a right blade.

This option will help you use it for plowing, hilling, and for installing a seat adapter for a mower or a rake for turning hay in haymaking.

Universal trailer for walk-behind tractor

The presence of a trailer ensures mobility, because it is one thing to drive a walk-behind tractor with already installed units, it’s another thing when a plow, cutter, or simply is loaded onto a trailer and transported by the walk-behind tractor itself.

You need to calculate the parameters of trailed equipment for a walk-behind tractor based on its power, the principle here is simple - 1 liter. With. means the ability to transport 100 kg of payload on a trolley. The simplest and most reliable design is a single-axle trailer with a load on the central axle. And although the carrying capacity of such a trailer is small, only up to 500 kg, this is quite enough to install a seat on the trailer and operate a walk-behind tractor while sitting on the trailer.

The most difficult thing here is to select the necessary components. It's easiest to use ready-made parts. For example, a do-it-yourself hub for a walk-behind tractor is made from an automobile hub for passenger cars. This allows you to use standard car wheels and tires for the equipment of the unit. On the other hand, a hub from a VAZ classic is perfect for making other useful homemade products - lugs, winches, wheel weights.

For the trailer, a structure made of a rectangular pipe is mainly used, but a channel and an I-beam can be used as a frame base. It is better to provide removable sides for the trailer. It is preferable to immediately provide for the possibility of installing several types of sides on the platform:

  • wooden or metal for transportation of bulk cargo;
  • light, mesh for harvesting green mass for animals;
  • folding, with the possibility of increasing the usable area for transporting hay.

But in order to move comfortably on the roads, it is worth making wings on the walk-behind tractor. If possible, immediately install mudguards on them. After all, not all roads have asphalt and hard surfaces.

According to the law, a walk-behind tractor with a trailer cannot be called a vehicle today, but this does not mean that the trailer should not be equipped with light signaling devices.

Be sure to install at least 4 reflective elements on the trailer - 2 red at the back and 2 white at the front. This will help the car driver identify the cart in the dark.

Tillage tools - do-it-yourself plow and plow for a walk-behind tractor

Before mounting a walk-behind tractor for tillage, you should decide what is more important and set priorities in terms of technology for cultivating the site. For large areas used for planting potatoes, root crops, and grain crops, the best option would be a do-it-yourself plow for a walk-behind tractor. Make it simpler and easier. But for beds for vegetable crops, for processing strips between rows of the garden or final processing for planting, it is better to use a milling cutter. This will make further work much easier.

When the coupling to the walk-behind tractor is ready, the most difficult thing in making the plow is its shape. The body has a shape that is difficult to mold and therefore it is better to make a plow from several components. It is better to make a coulter for a walk-behind tractor with your own hands from steel. The large force that this element will experience should not lead to its deformation. Moreover, it is the coulter that is responsible for the depth of lowering of the plow.

The plowshare should be made of the hardest possible metal. This is the part of the plow that cuts into the ground and cuts its layer. The strength and power of this element will allow you to work with the plow both in the conditions of cultivated arable land and to do preliminary processing of virgin soil. Despite the complexity of the blade design, it is quite simple to make. For a curved blade, it is better to take a ready-made round or oval-shaped workpiece. Make a dump out of it according to the drawing. For this, craftsmen usually use large pipes of 350 mm in diameter or gas cylinders. This results in an almost ideal blade shape.

One of the questions on how to make a plow for a walk-behind tractor will be the production of a field board - a stabilizing element for the plow, which sets the direction of its movement when working on arable land.

A do-it-yourself plow for a walk-behind tractor, just like a plow, is assembled from several elements. True, to use a plow in soil cultivation, it is better to provide a blade made of reinforcement, so that during cultivation the soil is loosened as much as possible when the formation is turned. In the design of the plow, it is better to provide not a frontal blade, but a double-sided blade with reinforcing bars.

Do-it-yourself cutter for walk-behind tractor

Attachments for a walk-behind tractor in the form of a soil cutter can be used mainly for light and medium-sized units. For heavy models with a separate power take-off mechanism and transmission of torque to trailed units for a walk-behind tractor, cutters with a chain drive will be optimal.

The simplest cutters for loosening the soil can be four segmented reciprocating cutters. Structurally, such a cutter is a pipe on which reciprocating cutters are rigidly mounted. For medium and light units, the axle shafts for the walk-behind tractor are made collapsible. This way you can adjust the width and speed of tillage. If two segments are installed on each side of the gearbox, the processing speed is significantly higher. True, the width in this case will be small. For axle shafts consisting of two or even four elements, the working width can be increased to 1.5 meters.

Do-it-yourself attachments for a walk-behind tractor are made from a profile pipe. The profile is easier to install on the wheel gearbox. Yes, and connecting them when building up is much simpler and easier.

Simply insert them into each other and secure with pins. Do-it-yourself axle shafts for a walk-behind tractor are made from a square or hexagonal pipe with thick walls. For 1 set of cutters you will need:

  • pipes for the axle housing with a wall thickness of 2.5-3 mm and a length of 50-80 cm;
  • for connecting pipe segments of smaller diameter 50-60 cm long;
  • 8 saber elements for the working body;
  • clamps on the axle shafts - 4 pieces;

It is recommended to make the cutters themselves from a steel strip with a thickness of 5 mm or more. The best solution for making cutters is to use forged metal. In this case, the strength is higher and there is no need to sharpen the tool frequently. When developing the shape of a cutter for a walk-behind tractor with your own hands, it is recommended to use drawings of the most successful models - a saber cutter, a curved cutter, or a cutter with a triangular pointed element.

Disc cultivator for walk-behind tractor

One of the most popular types of attachments for a walk-behind tractor during the summer plant care period is a cultivator. You can make a weeder for a walk-behind tractor with your own hands:

  • following the example of a classic cultivator in the form of a trailed ripper;
  • in the form of disk hillers used for processing root crops.

The processing technology involves passing a walk-behind tractor between two rows of crops or when using a multi-hull cultivator of three or even four rows.

The hiller ripper can have several types of tools installed in one housing:

  • ripper;
  • two double-moldboard flat-cutting plows;
  • 2 disc harrows for forming beds;
  • two disks for plant protection.

Do-it-yourself plant protection discs for walk-behind tractors are usually made of sheet steel. Depending on the purpose of the device to which they will be applied, their diameter is calculated. For cutters, the diameter is usually 5-7 cm smaller than the cutters, and for a cultivator they should be 30-35 cm in diameter. It’s just that when milling an area, the plants usually have a small height. But cultivation is carried out when the plants reach significant growth, and their breakdown at this stage can result in the death of the vegetable crop.

Medium-sized disks can also be universal, with a diameter of 20-25 cm. In this case, it is necessary to provide a universal type of fastening to each type of attachment.

Auxiliary equipment for walk-behind tractor

Among the necessary improvements to the walk-behind tractor in the form of attachments, it is recommended to make, in addition to all of the above, the following elements:

  • wheels with lugs for working on loose soil;
  • lift;
  • mounted bucket-blade for snow removal.

For wheel designs used as movers for walk-behind tractors on arable land, wheels with rubber tires are used. Experience and ability to work with ready-made structures, for example, steel rims from car wheels, will tell you how to make wheels for a walk-behind tractor with lugs yourself.

To do this you need:

  • 2 steel wheels from a passenger car;
  • corners 25x25 cm;
  • electric welding;
  • Bulgarian;
  • tape measure and pencil.

The corner is cut into segments of 35-40 cm. The rims of the disk are marked into equal segments. It is best if there are 8 or 10 of them. Marks are made and corners are welded at the marks.

It is better to make a do-it-yourself lift for a walk-behind tractor from a piece of pipe with a diameter of 100 mm. The lift itself is made in the form of a roller on a bracket. If necessary, it changes its position and makes it possible to lift the walk-behind tractor onto a support. In its normal position, the lift shaft is located in front of the unit and is used as a support roller when overcoming ditches and ruts.

The ladle can be made:

  • made of sheet metal 1.5-2 mm thick;
  • hard plastic with a knife at the bottom made of a metal strip;
  • from plywood 8-10 mm thick or OSB board 10-12 mm.

The bucket is rigidly fixed to the walk-behind tractor frame. To make work easier, you can make a rotating device to change the angle of inclination of the cutting plane to the road surface.

In order for the bucket to work for a long time, a support ski is placed in front on a bracket. This will make cleaning safer. The cutting surface will be at a certain height above the ground and will not touch the ground.

You can improve your home motorcycle equipment to suit your requirements without high costs. After all, you can assemble attachments for a walk-behind tractor yourself, doing everything yourself.

Work of a walk-behind tractor with attachments - video

With the purchase of a walk-behind tractor, the user has a desire to use it in all household work for the garden, garden, etc. Some people strive to immediately purchase the maximum possible set of attachments for the walk-behind tractor, others buy only the minimum number, gradually purchasing the rest. The third category of owners undertakes the independent production of devices and additional devices with their own hands. Sometimes they surpass in many respects what the industry can offer.

What do walk-behind tractors come with?

The walk-behind tractor itself represents only a power unit with wheels. In order for it to perform useful work, it must be turned into an agricultural machine, supplemented with attachments. Only then do the positive aspects of this energy-rich device begin to appear.

A small list of basic attachments and attachments:

  1. The lugs will allow the walk-behind tractor to move across the arable land.
  2. Plow and cutter. Since ancient times, deep cultivation of the land with the rotation of the layer was carried out by plows. A soil mill is a device capable of loosening the fertile layer.
  3. A potato planter will make the work of villagers and summer residents easier when planting potatoes.
  4. A flat cutter is one of the ancient tools that is experiencing a rebirth with the emergence of the ideas of organic (ecological) farming.
  5. Hillers. An increase in the yield of root crops, as well as an increase in the efficiency of the plant root system, is achieved by using hillers.
  6. The trailer turns the walk-behind tractor into a vehicle that can transport cargo on the site and on public roads.
  7. The snow blower extends the period of use of the walk-behind tractor; in winter it is actively used for clearing snow.

This is not a complete list of attachments for a walk-behind tractor.

It is not necessary to purchase the entire set of attachments for the walk-behind tractor at once. Additional tools are purchased or manufactured as needed.

DIY lugs

The engine torque is transmitted through the transmission to the wheels. To move across arable land, you need to create sufficient force. You can increase traction by increasing the coefficient of adhesion of the wheel to the ground. Therefore, the lug increases this coefficient several times, making it possible not to increase the mass of the power unit.

To make this attachment, you need to purchase:

  • sheet steel 2-3 mm thick, standard quality steel st3 is sufficient;
  • isosceles angle 35-50 mm;
  • pipe with an internal diameter of more than 25 mm.

This set of blanks is sufficient to get started. All that remains is to choose a design or develop your own.

The grouser can be leading and overhead. The driving lugs are installed in place of the base wheels of the walk-behind tractor. The overlays are put on top of the base wheel. Leaders do it more often.

Do-it-yourself plow and cutter

The plow, for all its apparent simplicity, is quite difficult to manufacture. Usually, production begins with a hitch - special attachments. The body is fixed to the hitch - this is the main working body. cuts the soil layer. Next, a layer is formed, and then its turnover occurs.

The design of the plow body includes several components:

  • ploughshare – cuts into the soil;
  • dump - serves to create a given movement of the formation and turnover;
  • field board – stabilizes the direction of travel of the entire agricultural unit.

For a walk-behind tractor, the design of the rotary plow is interesting; with one move of the lock, the plow can easily be changed from right to left and vice versa. This is very convenient for cultivating land in small areas.

If the plow can be conditionally considered a passive working attachment, then the soil tiller is active. When cultivating the soil, the wheels are removed, and the unit moves due to the rotation of the cutters. The working blades perform a rotational movement and loosen the ground.

  • The lister (fertilizer) hiller is structurally similar to the body of a plow with two moldboards; it moves between the rows, moving soil from the groove to the ridge. They are used with relatively small row spacing;
  • disk hiller in the form of two disks covering the ridge. When they move, a ridge is created on both sides at once;
  • rotary (propeller), having active plates that throw soil into the ridge.

Lister hillers are often equipped with adjustable blades. This allows you to change the grip width of the working element. Many people use propeller attachments for hilling potatoes, but by cutting the rhizomes of perennial weeds, they contribute to clogging of the field.

Disc hillers are the most common; they are easy to manipulate during operation. They are also easy to make with your own hands.

Do-it-yourself walk-behind tractor trailer

The trailer expands the capabilities of the walk-behind tractor. With it, it turns into a vehicle capable of delivering various cargoes. The parameters of this homemade attachment for a walk-behind tractor depend on the available power. The higher it is, the more complex the cart can become.

For energy-rich walk-behind tractors with engines over 10 hp. Two-axle trailers are possible, which can transport up to 1000 kg of cargo. Usually they build small ones, the load capacity of which is 300-500 kg.

There is an important requirement. The reliability and controllability of the tow hitch must correspond to the characteristics required for vehicles operated on public roads. Therefore, axles or axles from other wheeled vehicles are most often used. Many focus on the use of ready-made bridges from cars and cargo scooters.

Scooter wheels are designed for a load of more than 150 kg each. Therefore, they are taken as a basis for design. Some do-it-yourselfers equip the trailer with a spare tire to make a quick change on the road.

The main thing is to create a strong frame, as it will absorb the load from the transported materials. At the same time, the safety of all road users when operating a walk-behind tractor with a trailer on roads where there are other vehicles also depends on a strong frame.

DIY snow blower

When purchasing a walk-behind tractor, most users expect to use it only in the spring and summer. In fact, when using an energy-rich unit in winter as a snow blower, you can significantly increase the efficiency of its use in your personal household. There are times when snow has to be removed from paths and areas almost every day.

Several types are used for snow removal:

  • auger with rotary discarder;
  • bulldozer type with blade;
  • a shovel blade is a simplified type of snow blower;
  • rotor-fan.

For most users, having a plow blade is enough; this snow blower is much easier to make.

The user, depending on his conditions, determines the type of snow blower he needs. Many people take on the task of making a complex auger, believing that this particular device will help in the winter. In fact, most are convinced that it is easier to simply move the snow, freeing up the roadway and territory.

Attachments for walk-behind tractors are widely used in private farming. A large farm can be equipped with the necessary set of specialized equipment.

Small private farms and farmers are used to saving in everything. The walk-behind tractor is used in a variety of ways; it mechanizes all types of work. An engine running on gasoline or diesel fuel with sufficient power allows you to solve a wide range of problems.

The purpose of walk-behind tractors is, first of all, soil cultivation. The devices make it possible to plow, hill, plant crops, and harvest a rich harvest. The units will perform the job properly on a small area of up to 4 hectares. Attachments significantly expand the range of tasks performed. The devices are capable of:

  • remove snow;
  • dig a ditch;
  • mow the lawn;
  • mow the grass.

The list is incomplete; the possible number of works is significantly greater than those listed. Various mechanisms can use a walk-behind tractor that serves as a drive. A wide range of issues solved by additional equipment makes the unit invaluable and allows you to perform many agricultural, construction, and household work.

The functions and capabilities of the walk-behind tractor place it between a mini-tractor and a motor-cultivator. The device is more versatile than a motor cultivator. The device performs work by applying traction force. The cultivator solves only narrow specialized cultivation problems. The device loosens the soil surface.

The walk-behind tractor has a single axle, it does not have a seat, and the operator holds the device with his hands while walking behind. It is possible to equip the device with a trailer. This option requires a seat. Extra heavy models are equipped with a third wheel and a seat. These options have significant similarities with a mini-tractor.

Important! The walk-behind tractor differs little from the tractor structurally; it has the same parts.

Often the concepts of a walk-behind tractor and a cultivator are equated, but they do not see much difference between them. The two devices, meanwhile, have fundamental differences regarding the functionality of the devices.

Tillage occurs using both types of equipment. The devices prepare the soil, improve the soil structure, and mix soil and fertilizers. The main element of both units are cutters that are immersed in the ground, allowing for plowing with a minimum of effort. On a small plot of several hundred square meters, it is worth using a lightweight model. Such devices can be electric, gasoline, or diesel.

In addition to cultivating the soil, the walk-behind tractor easily performs other work. Using the appropriate attachment for a walk-behind tractor will allow you to mow grass, harvest potatoes, and other root crops. Even harvesting is easy. The walk-behind tractor has rich functionality and is much superior to a cultivator. The product market offers tempting options. You can purchase a model equipped with headlights that can work at night. An interesting option is equipped with knives that allow you to dig ditches. Additional attachments make the equipment more expensive.

The functionality of the walk-behind tractor is very great. The device will help you perform many types of work. The device uses a wide range of attachments. It is very useful to attach a powerful pump, a trolley is useful. Some models are equipped with a plane and a circular saw. The low power of the unit does not affect the performance or speed of operations.

A private farm or farmer purchases one or another unit depending on the type of work performed. Plowing virgin soil and cultivating row spacing require different techniques. More powerful models cost much more. You need to spend money efficiently; the performance of the device must match the type of work. The areas are classified as follows:

  1. An ultra-small plot is considered to be less than 10 acres, which involves different zones - garden, flower beds, beds, lawn.
  2. A plot of up to 40 acres is considered small. It is divided into several zones.
  3. The average plot of 50-90 acres is used for a couple of crops.
  4. A large plot - more than 100 acres - requires too many types of work. The cultivator will not be able to do everything.

For owners of large plots, it makes sense to use heavy models equipped with attachments.

Important! The heavy model does not weed.

An addition will be an ultra-light model that allows you to perform weeding. The owner of a small plot should think about how to purchase a medium-sized unit that makes it possible to cultivate the soil in an optimal way.

Performance characteristics

Different models have their own equipment and differ in parameters and characteristics. The speed of the unit is determined by the number of gears. The normal operating speed is 4 km/h. Three-speed products have a speed of 15 km/h. There are six-speed options that can reach twice the speed.

The device is equipped with a high-quality reliable motor. Modern models are equipped with a four-stroke engine. Air cooling is usually used. The engine is started with a manual starter. More powerful models have a battery and an electric starter.

The transmission of the device is of great importance. Gearboxes are very diverse; chain and belt gear drives are used. It is better to choose a dismountable gearbox, because the failure of a maintenance-free gearbox will require replacing the entire unit.

The device provides the ability to maneuver. Maneuvering the device requires the presence of a mechanism to disable one wheel. There are options for equipping with a differential. Attachments, working parts, and trailing mechanisms are connected to the power take-off shaft. Dependent devices are connected by a clutch. Independent ones are driven directly by the motor.

Often modifications allow adjustment of the wheel spacing. The greater mass of the device allows you to achieve better wheel grip, which can be easily achieved by installing special ballast.

Walk-behind tractors are offered equipped with some attachment options. Cutters are usually provided immediately. It is worn instead of wheels; a number of models provide for joint use. The cutter allows you to plow the soil. Too soft soil causes the cutter to dig in, so it is preferable to use sectional models that provide good maneuverability.

Application of lugs

Using a plow or digger requires the use of lugs. Only heavy models are supplied without lugs. The need for this type of equipment forces craftsmen to make lugs for the walk-behind tractor with their own hands. The product looks like metal wheels. The device will ensure the execution of basic ground work.

The adapter makes using the mechanism comfortable. The trolley has a seat, a clutch block, and a wheel pair. The device serves as a mounting point for attachments.

Plowing virgin soil is carried out with a plow. The device is very productive, cultivates the soil more deeply, and minimal effort is required. In addition to the usual versions, there are reversible plows, and rotary versions are often used. The reversible model uses alternately right and left plows and moves back and forth. The rotary version of the plow allows you to plow and cultivate at the same time.

Self-production of attachments

The walk-behind tractor is useful, functional, and equipped with many attachments. The mechanism is capable of hilling potatoes, removing snow, and preparing firewood. But even advanced, perfect modifications of devices are equipped with a limited number of attachments. At the same time, it is relatively easy to make attachments for a walk-behind tractor with your own hands in order to use the equipment most productively.

Planting potatoes will be much easier with the use of a potato planter, which is easy to do yourself. Small power models have proven themselves well. The planter itself will make a furrow, throw in potato tubers, and cover the potatoes with soil.

Important! The device can also be used for planting other vegetables.

To manufacture the device you need:

  • stars;
  • chains;
  • channels.

The potato planter is used on cultivated soil. Potatoes are planted evenly, which ensures an excellent harvest. It is impossible to make a device for a walk-behind tractor with your own hands without the appropriate diagrams. Drawings on paper will be required to complete the product. The basis is a frame, which is welded from channels. It is not difficult to create a bunker of the required volume.

Equipment selection rules

Many equipment owners are looking to purchase additional attachments. Only products from the same manufacturer guarantee full compatibility of devices. Products from another company may have mounting features. The efficient operation of attachments requires matching torque and other parameters. The products must fit each other exactly.

The design and structure of any walk-behind tractor implies the mandatory use of attachments. And since modern engine blocks have heavy and high-torque motors with power take-off systems, it is not surprising that manufacturers of power tools create more and more interesting attachments and attachments for walk-behind tractors every season.

What an Attachable Tool Kit Can Do

The universal nature of the walk-behind tractor design means that additional working tools and equipment are used exclusively as attachments for the walk-behind tractor. During operation, it can be easily removed and replaced, without interfering with the design of the walk-behind tractor.

The vast majority of attachments for walk-behind tractors are developed and produced primarily for cultivating soil and growing vegetable and grain crops in small areas of personal plots. Therefore, all attachments can be classified into three categories:

Important! Due to the high degree of unification of the design of the main unit with the motor, owners of different models of walk-behind tractors can partially adapt attachments and attachments for “foreign” models to their units. Especially when it comes to “Soviet” models.

Typical attachment options for walk-behind tractors

Manufacturers of equipment for walk-behind tractors have divided the entire range of attachments into two groups:

The simplest attachments and attachments for a walk-behind tractor

Such devices include a number of plows, cutters, and hillers for universal purposes.

Most of them are single-row, but for heavy models of walk-behind tractors, multi-row ones can also be used, most often these are cutters and cultivators.

For each walk-behind tractor model, the manufacturer produces a whole range of extensions and attachments that can increase the wheelbase and increase the stability of hitches for installing a plow or knife hiller. In some cases, using hitches, you can attach small harrows or rakes to the walk-behind tractor, the use of which can significantly increase the efficiency of working with mown plants and their remains in the ground.

A mandatory tool is lugs installed on walk-behind tractors for heavy work - plowing or milling the soil. To work on particularly difficult areas, you can use additional reinforced lugs with hanging loads.

The second most popular after the plow are cutters for cultivating land. Usually they use double ones, but if desired, you can supply tools with an increased number of knives.

Attachments for salute walk-behind tractor

Currently, in the list of additional devices for walk-behind tractors, the most popular are relatively new models - seeders, potato planters, harvesting devices and snow removal tools. Nozzles and mechanized units for planting seeds allow sowing to be carried out at the most optimal time, when the deadline is days or even hours.

For example, additional devices for sowing small seeds and grain crops. The design of the attachment is very similar to that used for full tractor-mounted seed drills.

Potato planters KS-1, with a weight of just over 40 kg, allow approximately 100-120 kg of seed potatoes to be planted in a prepared furrow in an hour to an hour and a half. The seed is loaded into the hopper and driven by the planter's chain drive to be placed into the soil at precisely measured intervals. It is clear that before operating the attachment, it is necessary to cultivate and cut furrows in the ground.

No less interesting is the equipment for digging and harvesting potatoes. You can simply dig the tubers out of the ground with a special type of plow, but it is better to use a more universal version of attachments that help even partially harvest the crop.

It is worth mentioning a separate category of attachments used for mowing green mass. For example, a rotary mower for Salyut with a chain drive of the cutting tool allows you to mow the grass many times faster than when using a self-propelled lawn mower. The hinged design of the GPM-1 rake allows you to remove mown hay without much effort.

A disc hiller or flat cutter is perfect for hilling and cultivating row spacing.

In addition to cultivating the land and harvesting crops, you can use special attachments for Salyut, designed for watering and spraying shrubs and trees. This is a water pump capable of creating pressure up to 5 atm.

Snow removal attachments

Experience working with walk-behind tractors has shown that, when properly equipped with attachments, a walk-behind tractor works perfectly as a snow blower. One of the most successful options for a mounted snow blower is the SMB-1 mounted kit.

Using a rotary blade and ejector, the snow blower is capable of removing compacted snow up to 200 mm thick from the road surface, and the entire mass of snow is thrown to the side of the road at a distance of up to five meters. An alternative to using such equipment may be using a tractor or working with a shovel.

To clear wet snow, you can use a mounted plow blade. A blade one meter wide makes it possible to lift and remove heavy snow saturated with water and ice up to 30 cm thick. At the same time, the installed equipment includes an additional handle that allows you to change the direction of the cut. If you wish and have a sufficiently powerful engine, you can even cut off the top part of the turf on sandy soil with a walk-behind tractor. Essentially, a blade shovel and adapter can turn a walk-behind tractor into a miniature bulldozer

The final final sweeping of the canvas can be done using a snow blower based on a rotary broom. This attachment will not only remove dirt and stone from the road surface, but is also capable of removing ice and compressed frozen snow up to 10 mm thick.

Transport attachments

A walk-behind tractor with a sufficiently strong motor can be easily converted into a small cargo vehicle capable of carrying from 100 to 400 kg of cargo. This will require a special type of hitch and a single axle trailer.

The average speed on rough terrain is up to 10 km/h, on the road you can move up to 15-18 km/h. Most of the inconveniences associated with the use of such equipment are due to the fact that the transmission gear ratios do not combine well with the optimal speed and speed of the walk-behind tractor. Considering the lack of full-fledged control and braking controls on the walk-behind tractor, in order to control the unit on a hitch with an overloaded trailer, quite serious experience and skill in driving such motor-units is required.

If desired, using an additional attachment adapter, you can turn the walk-behind tractor into a microtractor that is quite maneuverable and powerful. By adding grass cutting equipment to it, you can get a full-fledged motorized lawn mower.

Many interesting examples of attachments for walk-behind tractors were created by enthusiasts, for example, a tracked transporter. Or a system for spraying and chemical plant protection. Most of these models are subsequently copied quite successfully and used to develop industrial equipment designs.

Conclusion

Additional units and accessories turn walk-behind tractors into full-fledged agricultural machines. They cost a lot, but when used correctly, they reduce physical stress by an order of magnitude, while the quality of work remains consistently high. In some cases, such as snow removal, there is practically no alternative to using a walk-behind tractor with an installed snow blower. The market for these types of products continues to grow rapidly.
