We contacted the host and warned about our arrival, and, taking a deep breath, took our first steps from Tan Son Nhat airport towards the noisy Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City). Second important question after exchanging money and mobile communications: how to get from Saigon airport to the city center.

by taxi.

The first Vietnamese you will meet when leaving the airport will, of course, be taxi drivers. They will happily and generously take you to the city center, and charge you triple the price. So why am I describing this method, you ask?

The path to the long-awaited bed

Since we decided not to settle in a popular tourist area for backpackers and budget tourists - Pham Ngu Lao, we managed to negotiate for 220,000 dong at a fixed price, with a check written before boarding the taxi. And so, to the quiet sound of the air conditioner, we drove slowly through the evening Saigon. Tired from the long flight, but already a little happy, because every element outside the window was completely new to us, and we looked at everything with greedy childish curiosity. Our local host was waiting ahead of us and cozy apartment With panoramic view over the entire city from a height of 22 floors.

How to get from the airport to the center of Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)? Only by taxi. When leaving the airport you need to go left about 70 meters, there will be a taxi stand. First of all, preference should be given to Vinasun cars, which in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) are the most common, the most honest and the most inexpensive. They always drive only according to the meter, which, by the way, starts at 11,000 dong (16 rubles), and they never refuse to turn it on.

If the airport does not have Vinasun cars, then in second place it is better to take Mailinh, and then all the others.

We drove from the airport to the center of Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) at night, about 4 hours, so we didn’t find a Vinasan taxi and got into some other one. We asked the driver and the person who seats everyone in the taxi in advance whether we would go by the meter (meter), they said yes, of course. And they even showed the meter inside the taxi, and the driver turned it on when we started. But in the middle of the journey, the driver said that it was night and therefore we had to pay him 200,000 dong (291 rubles). Moreover, as he said this, he slowed down very much and did not want to go with normal speed until we agree on this amount. And this despite the fact that when we got to the right place (Pham Ngu Lao street, where you should stay in Ho Chi Minh City), the meter showed just under 150,000 dong! By the way, they say that you can get here by taxi from Vinasun for 120,000-135,000 dong.

Almost all taxis in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) are big, like minivans. That’s why it’s a pleasure to drive in them – they’re so spacious! And in them good air conditioner unlike taxis in the Philippines.

You can see what Vinasun taxis look like in the photo.

As many as three Vinasan taxis at once.

Palm trees, blue sea, Exotic fruits... Hello, Vietnam! Guys, I want to tell you about an unforgettable relaxing holiday on the shore warm sea, while snowstorms raged in our country. The hotel was chosen in Mui Ne, which required a long journey from Ho Chi Minh City by bus, and the same way to get back. I’ll tell you more about this now.

By bus from Mui Ne

Buses also travel around the country travel agencies, designed for transporting tourists, and regular ones. First, I’ll tell you about the first ones.

There are travel agencies providing such services in all cities, and there are dozens of them. Not all have websites, but signs in English and a list of cities can often be found in tourist areas. One of the well-known companies is Sinh Tourist, I’m not sure that its buses are any better, although the travel agency has a website, and there is information in English. Buses depart 3 times a day:

The morning bus is ordinary, but the next two travel from Nha Trang to Ho Chi Minh City with a stop in Mui Ne. They are interesting because they are slipbass. It’s difficult to call the seats beds; they are more like couches, which are located in the salon in three rows and on two floors. An extraordinary and convenient solution for long journeys, but I didn’t like that they were too cold. Such buses often serve even short routes. Agree, it’s funny to go to bed if you travel 100 km, but in Vietnam the bus will travel this distance for 2.5 hours, and it’s good if it’s not late.

Hanhcafe buses depart even more frequently:

Slipbass can also be caught here.

The list of carriers does not end there; travel agencies appear on Nguyễn Đình Chiểu Street every now and then. There are also representative offices in neighboring Phan Thiet, they are located at the following addresses:

  • 61 Trần Quý Cáp, Đức Long;
  • 97 Từ Văn Tư, Phú Tài, Phú Trinh;
  • 280, Trần Quý Cáp, Thành Phố Phan Thiết, Tỉnh Bình Thuận, Tiến Lợi;
  • 1 Từ Văn Tư, P.Phú Trinh.

Regular buses depart there every 30 minutes to Ho Chi Minh City, but more on them later. It takes 5-6 hours to get to Ho Chi Minh City!

Buying tickets

You can buy tickets at agency offices, for example, the company is located at 144 Nguyen Dinh Chieu St., Ham Tien Ward (KM 16). Nearby, at 117 Nguyen Dinh Chieu St., Ham Tien and at 364 Huỳnh Thúc Kháng (Chợ Mũi Né). It will be easy to find them on the map. You can also purchase tickets online on the Sinh Tourist website.

You can also buy tickets at almost any hotel or guesthouse, but it will be a little more expensive, but it makes sense. If you bought tickets at the hotel, then the bus will pick you up from the hotel, if at the agency, you will have to drive up to the representative office to board. In general, where you bought it, that’s where the fit is.

In Ho Chi Minh City, buses also arrive at the carriers' offices, but they are all located on Phạm Ngũ Lão and Đề Thám streets, this is a whole tourist quarter.

Price

A ticket costs 3.5-4.5 euros, at the hotel - about 6 euros.

By regular bus from Phan Thiet

As I wrote above, carriers also meet in neighboring Phan Thiet, and regular buses to Ho Chi Minh City also depart from here every half hour.

The bus station is located here:

Bus No. 1 goes directly from Mui Ne to it. You can board the flight anywhere, as long as it goes there; in our understanding, there are no stops here. The bus passes almost all the hotels of the resort, starting from the Peace resort, then passes by the Madame Cook hotel, Hom Rum. Then it turns to Đường Nguyễn Hữu Thọ and leaves for Đường Xuân Thủy, then all the way along the sea to Phan Thiet. The bus makes a stop in the center, next to the shopping center, near the railway station and bus station.

The bus to Ho Chi Minh City arrives at the Bến xe Miền Đông bus station:

It will take approximately 40 minutes to get to the bus station, and another 5 hours to travel to Ho Chi Minh City.

Buying tickets

You can pay for bus fare to Phan Thiet from the conductor; tickets to Ho Chi Minh City are sold at the bus station ticket office. You can always leave.

Price

A ticket from Mui Ne to Phan Thiet costs 0.6 euros (16,000 dong), travel to Ho Chi Minh City costs 3 euros.

By train

You already know how to get from Mui Ne to Phan Thiet railway station, the same route No. 1:

From here a train departs once a day to Ho Chi Minh City (or Saigon, as indicated on the website railway):

The train takes 4 hours, which is slightly faster than the bus.

The train station in Ho Chi Minh City is located near the center:

Buying tickets

Tickets are sold on the railway website and at the ticket office at the station.

Price

It depends on the type of carriage; the cheapest seats with wooden benches cost 8 euros. Tickets for the carriage with soft chairs- 14 euros. A little expensive compared to buses, but a little faster.

By car

A foreigner will not be allowed to rent a car without a Vietnamese driver's license. But there is an opportunity to get a temporary certificate, the option is not particularly interesting, because it will take a whole week. The only thing left is a taxi, which, if you bargain well, will cost from 60 euros. I advise you to write the amount on a piece of paper and offer this price to taxi drivers in the parking lot. Always pay for your taxi fare only after your trip.

Conclusion

I was traveling on a tourist bus, I bought a ticket at the hotel, rather, they ran to the agency to get it and sold it to me. But this doesn’t matter, the main thing is that I got there without transfers and relatively quickly. I didn’t like the option with regular buses because of the transfer; besides, the condition of the bus can be anything, but tourist buses are more or less well-maintained. Trains are unreasonably expensive, and they are often late. Many people use taxis; 60 euros is quite a reasonable price, especially if divided between three or four people.
