Not far from Samui there is another popular Thai resort -. Therefore, many tourists first relax in the noisier and busier Phuket, and then move to Samui in search of peace and quiet. You can do this in 4 ways:

  1. By plane. Direct flights are operated by only one company - Bangkok Airways. The flight takes about one hour, tickets cost about 6 thousand baht. To save money, you can fly with a transfer. The cheapest local air carrier in Thailand is Air Asia. Flights will cost about 4 thousand baht, and the route will be as follows: Phuket-Bangkok-Samui
  2. By bus. Buses to Koh Samui depart from the Second Bus Terminal in Phuket (Bus Terminal 2). The ticket is inexpensive - only 500 baht, and the buses are quite comfortable. The ticket price also includes the price of the ferry: from Phuket the bus first travels over a bridge to the mainland, then reaches the Gulf of Thailand and stops at the pier. Next you need to travel by ferry - using the same tickets that you bought at Bus Terminal 2. This entire journey lasts about 5 hours
  3. By minibus (minibus). There are many travel agencies in Phuket where you can buy a ticket for a comfortable minibus. When purchasing a ticket, you must indicate your hotel and phone number. On the day of departure, a minibus will pick you up directly from the hotel, and you will be informed about the arrival of the transport by phone. The cost of a ticket for such a transfer will be about 600 baht.
  4. By taxi. You can order a car at the reception of any hotel, but you need to keep in mind that the price for such a trip is comparable to air travel - 3,000 baht. When discussing prices with a taxi driver, not very pleasant situations often arise due to mutual misunderstanding. It seems that we agreed on a certain amount, but at the end of the trip the taxi driver asks for more. And it is no longer possible to understand: either you really did not understand each other, or this is some kind of cunning trick. Therefore, it is better to immediately give the taxi driver a notepad with a pen and ask him to write down the price for his services in his own hand.

Low-cost airline means that the airline is low-cost and its flights, most often, are much cheaper than flights from standard airlines.

For example, first you buy a ticket to Bangkok (the capital of Thailand) from Moscow with S7 airlines. Then, you connect flights and buy a flight from Bangkok to Koh Samui on the Air Asia website.

Eat different classes buses from Bangkok to Samui, including the most comfortable one - V.I.P. Have a nice trip to Koh Samui!

Christina Endless.

There are several ways to get from Bangkok to Koh Samui. You will have to cover a considerable distance (about 730 km), so you should carefully consider which of these methods is better to choose. The fastest, but most expensive is the Bangkok-Samui plane; in an hour you will already be there. Most cheap way– this is a bus and ferry or train and ferry, but it will take you about 13 hours to get there. It is also possible to rent a car and come to Koh Samui on your own. I propose to talk in more detail about each of these methods so that you can finally decide.

The fastest way to get from Bangkok to Koh Samui is by plane. He flies out of international airport Suvarnabhumi, such flights are operated by Bangkok Airways and Thai Airways. If you are flying from Russia or any other country to Koh Samui with a transfer in Bangkok, then you do not even need to leave the airport, just go to another terminal. Be sure to leave at least 1.5 hours for the transfer, because passport and customs control takes quite a lot of time.

However, the most quick way always costs more and will cost you 3,500 baht ($110) and more. The flight will take you about an hour. Bangkok Airways operates Bangkok-Samui flights every thirty minutes, and Thai Airways operates flights twice a day.

Use this convenient search form to book your ticket to Koh Samui.

Airplane and ferry

Well-known Asian low-cost companies Airasia and NokAir use the services of another airport in the capital of Thailand - Don Muang. Therefore from Suvarnabhumi Airport it will take you an hour or more to get there. Also, the planes of these airlines do not fly directly to Koh Samui, since the airport on this island belongs to Bangkok Airways. They land at Surathani or Nakorn Si Thammarat airports, and then need to get to the island by ferry. And this is the main disadvantage of such a flight.

But the prices for such flights are much lower (from 1000 and above). If you decide to use the services of these airlines, then along with your plane ticket you will be given a bus and ferry ticket. This option takes much longer than the previous one, since it will take you an hour to fly, an hour and a half to get to the pier by bus, and a 2-hour ferry ride to Samui. But it’s still faster to get there by plane than by land, and the difference in price is small.

Bus and ferry

Bus and ferry tickets to Koh Samui can be purchased at New Saitai Bus Terminal in Bangkok. The best way to get from the airport is by taxi; to do this, go to the Public Taxi counter and they will take you to the appointed place. The cost of a regular ticket is from 550 baht, a VIP ticket is from 1000 baht. I recommend taking a VIP ticket, as the bus ride will take about 10 hours, and the seats in the VIP are much more comfortable, wider, and they recline almost like a bed. Therefore, you should not spare money on this, especially if you have to travel at night.

The air conditioning on buses is usually very strong, so wear warm clothes.

Depending on the ticket you purchased, you may be taken to Donsak or Chumphon. In Donsak you will be dropped off at the Raja Ferry or Seatran Ferry pier and transferred to the ferry. From the Raja Ferry pier the ferry docks in Koh Samui in the Lipa Noi area, and from the Seatran Ferry pier in the Nathon area. If you arrive in Chumphon, the ferry will land in the Maenam area.

From Donsak it takes approximately 1.5 hours to sail by sea, and from Chumphon about 3.5 hours.

You can also book your bus and ferry tickets in advance on the website. The cost of an evening ticket (21:00-11:20) is 1450 baht, and a morning ticket (6:00-16:40) is 1400 baht. By booking a ticket with this company, you will fly from Bangkok to Chumphon and then to Koh Samui.

Train and ferry

Instead of taking the bus, you can take the train to Koh Samui. It departs from Bangkok Railways train station. From Suvarnabhumi Airport to the railway station you can take the metro, first go to Makkasan station, then go to Phetchaburi station and go to Hua Lamphong station. This is where the station we need is located.

At the Bangkok Railways station, I recommend buying a full ticket from Bangkok to Koh Samui. That way, you won't have to worry about whether you'll catch the ferry. You will be given three tickets at once: train, bus and ferry. The ticket price depends on the type of train and class of carriage, the average cost varies from 600 to 1,500 baht. The most expensive ticket is a compartment on a fast train, the cheapest is a seat on a regular train. The air conditioning on the trains is also very strong, so don't forget to take warm clothes with you.

The train takes about 12 hours to Surat Thani, then you will be transferred to a bus, where the journey to the pier will take 1.5 hours. Next, take the ferry and sail to Samui for approximately 1.5 hours.

Independent trip

You can also get from Bangkok to Samui on your own by renting a car, but for this you will definitely need an international driver's license.

It is best to rent a car from reliable international rental companies; offers from such companies are collected on the website. In this case, the car will be delivered to you with insurance, a full tank and no breakdowns. And this is very important over such a long distance.

Rental prices passenger car from 1000 baht and above. You will also be asked to leave a deposit until the car is returned in the amount of 10,000 to 20,000 baht. This money is frozen on your card.

You will also have to pay for transporting the car by ferry, which is about 500 baht.

You can return the car to Samui by contacting the same company. However, many companies charge a certain amount to return the car elsewhere, it can be a couple of thousand baht, so be sure to check this point with the people who rent it to you.

This method can hardly be called budgetary, since you will pay more than 2,000 baht for gasoline, as well as rental costs, ferry, etc. But along the way you have the opportunity to visit other cities in Thailand and see many interesting places.

Now you know the main ways to get from Bangkok to Koh Samui. Choose the one that suits you best and have a happy trip!

Via Surrathani (+ bus + ferry)

Surrathani is the transport hub of southern Thailand. From here you can get to any resort place.

By plane

If you are not prejudiced against flying on low-cost airlines, then a flight from Bangkok to Surrathani followed by a trip to Samui by bus and ferry will be the best option in terms of price and time spent.

More than 10 flights depart from Bangkok daily, the cheapest being from Don Mueang. It is located near Suvarnabhumi: shuttles run between the airports. The carriers are well-known low-cost airlines in Thailand:

  • Air Asia
  • Thai Lion Air
  • Nok Air

TOTAL:$30 and 4.5 hours on the road.

By train

Every day more than a dozen trains depart in a southern direction. Among them there are both regular passenger and express, express and super express. The faster the train goes, the more “branded” it is: more air-conditioned compartment cars, fewer seated cars - and, accordingly, more expensive. A seat in a standard two-seater compartment costs $30. In a reserved seat carriage – $20-$25. You can get there in 10 hours. Almost all trains go at night. The advantage of traveling, unlike a bus, is that you can spend the night in a horizontal position. If you travel in a first class compartment carriage, the journey will be quite decent, without significant inconvenience.

It is better to think in advance about how to get to Samui and purchase tickets for all transport at the Bangkok station. This will save you from unnecessary fuss in Surrathani. Trains are often delayed, but this is not a problem, since bus and ferry tickets are not tied to a specific departure time and do not have fixed seats. If you prefer not to pay in advance, you can purchase bus tickets (+ for the ferry) when you arrive at Surrathani station.

The bus leaves from the parking lot next to the train station every hour until 18:00. The drive is short: 1 hour to the pier and 1.5 hours on the ferry. The end point is Nathan Pier.

TOTAL:$35 and 13 hours on the road.

You will be put on a company bus from Bangkok, dropped off near the pier and taken to the ship. Lomprayah will charge $30 for its services. It’s cheaper and easier to go straight from Bangkok using their transport.

TOTAL:$45 and 12.5 hours on the road + waiting for the bus.
