What is a plinth, what are they? Why do you need a plinth?
The word itself is from Greek: plinthos - plate, (hence the tile, and the old name for brick - plinth).
The main task of the plinth, as an architectural element, is to design the interface of structural planes. For example: ceilings and walls, walls and floors, various kinds of niches and openings.
From a construction point of view, plinth is not a material, as many are accustomed to thinking, it is a construct. The plinth can be pulled out using plaster, glued from foam plastic, sculpted from plasticine, decorated from ceramic tiles, etc., etc. Design element the angle between the wall and the ceiling is a ceiling plinth, the wall and the floor is a floor plinth.
Unlike skirting boards used for floor finishing, ceiling skirting boards are distinguished by a greater variety of materials and shapes.
