The next step is to cut out the window glass in dimensions slightly smaller than the window frame - about 3-4 mm. I make sure that the glass is not too compressed and does not crack on its own in the heat. I insert the glass starting from the bottom edge. I put two or three matches to ensure the required gap. And then I lift the top edge and press it against the binding.

I use small nails or pins as fasteners. Since I don’t change glass every day, for the sake of glass integrity, I poke holes in the wooden frame with an awl, insert nails into them and press the heads with a chisel. I insert the nails at an angle of about 45° so that their heads do not protrude from the putty. Sometimes in winter ice builds up between the glass and the frame, and it can squeeze out the bottom edge of the glass, so reinforce it with more nails than the top and side edges (window windows are pressed with pins every 15-20 cm).

Now there are good quick-drying putties on sale, but since you need to go to the city to get them, I prepare the window putty myself and knead it. Sometimes it is cheaper to replace an entire window or sash than just a glass unit in an installed window. Otherwise, you need to carefully measure the glass unit (if the measurement is inaccurate, the glass unit will have to be thrown away) and order it from the factory.
