The mood now is squirrel

With the onset of cold weather in autumn or winter, unpleasant drafts may appear in the house. We offer you an idea on how you can keep your home warm and get rid of drafts. Since the most common sources of drafts are windows and doors, they are worth paying attention to. We suggest you insulate them with a fabric roller, which you can buy or sew yourself. There are specially designed things that make all this not only reliable, but also beautiful. Draft toys are made specifically to be used to close cracks under doors and windows. They are not just long, but also durable (made of dense materials), heavy (often with sand inside) and stable. The simplest option is a bright roller.

What you will need:

For the heat-saving Snake:

1 pair of striped girls' tights
-Raw rice
-Needles and threads
-Glue
-Felt

-Scissors

For a heat-saving Dog:
-1 pair of girls' tights
-Raw rice
-Needles and threads
-Glue
-Felt
-Eyes for homemade toys
-Scissors
-Paper clips
-An old belt or bracelet.

How to do it?

Heat Saving Snake
Step 1: Cut one leg from a pair of striped girl's tights and fill it with rice (more than two kilograms). To make pouring the rice in easier, use a plastic cup with the bottom cut off as a funnel.

Step 2: Fold the open end of the leg inward to form a conical snake tail shape and sew the edges together.
Step 3: Glue on the eyes. Finally, sew the tongue.

Heat Saving Dog
Step 1: Cut one leg from a pair of girl's tights and fill it with rice. Leave enough space to tie the open end into a tight knot.
Step 2: For the tail, apply glue to the felt triangle and stick it to the knot.

Step 3: When gluing the tail, secure it with paper clips until the glue dries.
Step 4: Glue on the eyes. Attach the soft ears to the head as shown in the picture and then sew them on. Thus, the line should be invisible.
Step 5: Don't forget about the collar: shorten the old belt to fit the size of the animal's neck, or use a bracelet-strap.

Patterns:

A modern door seal, sewn from scraps of your favorite fabrics, will not only retain heat, but also decorate the room. Use ready-made fabrics with a pattern or create a pattern to your own taste.

Materials:
Scraps of different fabrics for patchwork (we used plain, floral, teak, embroidered and monogrammed);
Thick cotton fabric 40×100 cm (for the back side);
White cotton fabric 80 x 100 cm (for lining);
Scissors for fabric and paper;
Large sheet of paper and pencil;
Tape measure;
Sewing thread and needle;
Large button;
Cotton floss;
Embroidery needle;
Polyester stuffing for soft toys. Size.
Along the bottom edge – 85 cm. Creating a pattern.
Enlarge the pattern by 200% using a copy machine. Cut and cut along the dotted line.

How to sew a draft pillow with your own hands.

1. Fold the flaps into a rectangle. Change their size and location. When you like the design, cut the flaps into pieces of the desired size. In total you will need a piece measuring 40 x 100 cm.

2. Place the pieces face up, pin them together, and sew by folding the pieces right side in and leaving a 0.6cm seam allowance. Then press the seams.

3. Place the pattern halves on a thick cotton cloth. Attach the paper with pins, cut the fabric along the contours, leaving a 1 cm seam allowance. Using this fabric pattern, cut out the dog from the patchwork piece.

4. Place both pieces right sides together and pin them together. Sew along the outer edge, leaving a 1 cm seam allowance. Do not sew the bottom edges so that the dog can be turned inside out.

5. Trim the seam by 0.5 cm from the stitching. Trim the corners. Turn the product inside out and straighten it out. Iron.

6. Using a paper pattern, cut two pieces from the lining fabric and sew them together in the same way.

7. Cut out the ear pieces from the remnants of both fabrics, leaving a 1 cm seam allowance on all sides. Place both pieces face to face and sew them together, leaving an opening. Trim the seam, turn the ear inside out and close the hole with a blind stitch. Iron.

8. Sew the ear to the patch (front) side of the dog. Sew on the eye button. Cut and sew a piece of fabric in a contrasting color to the tip of the nose.

9. Prepare cotton floss in three folds, thread it through an embroidery needle and embroider the claws.

10. Fill the lining with stuffing and sew it closed with a blind stitch. Insert the pillow into the decorative cover and also sew it with a hidden seam.

Hello, friends! It's frosty and windy outside, and even plastic windows and insulated doors have difficulty keeping out drafts. And now the problem of maintaining heat in the house and protecting from drafts is becoming more pressing than ever.

The article mentioned such a method as additional insulation of windows and doors.

Do you know how you can decorate your home, make it warmer and not spend anything?

Today we will talk exactly about this.

How to get rid of drafts?

There are many options. One of them is to go to the store and buy special insulation for windows and doors.

You can, of course, solve the problem more simply and use the proven method of our grandmothers: put a roller twisted from an old towel or some small blanket on the windowsill or under the door.

But, you must admit, it doesn’t look very good.

There is a much more creative way - this is a special decorative insulation against drafts under the door or on the windowsill, which you can buy or make with your own hands from scrap materials, saving a lot of money.

How to make a draft roller with your own hands?

First of all, you need to choose your favorite model of decorative decoration to protect against drafts or come up with something yourself.

There are many options. These could be pillows, bolsters or toys. For example, these:

The materials from which such homemade insulation can be made can be very different. For example, you can sew such a roll from leftover fabric, from multi-colored ties or scraps, or crocheted (or knitted).

In addition, if part of this simple design is turned into a face and decorated with a few funny touches (eyes, tongue), you can get a very attractive little animal that will undoubtedly decorate your home.

For stuffing, you can use any material: padding polyester, holofiber, foam rubber - whatever you have at home.

We needed a draft roller to insulate a window in one of the rooms, where it usually becomes cold and uncomfortable when the wind changes direction and starts blowing from the northeast.

I decided to knit my charming worm caterpillar, since I am better at it than sewing.

To begin with, I made an audit of the remaining threads and selected all the small balls and even very small remnants of threads (100 centimeters or more in length).

I decided to crochet in the simplest way (single crochet). You can use all threads: different textures and thicknesses (if the thread is very thin, you can connect several together). The result was a long roller-bag the size of the window. By the way, the same knitted draft roller can be made under the door.

For stuffing, I used the remains of foam rubber, which was previously chopped into small pieces with scissors.

After filling, I decorated my caterpillar a little: I glued on the eyes and hair. This is how beautiful it turned out.

In my opinion, it turned out very nice, and at the same time several other problems were solved:

  • The room became warmer and more comfortable
  • There is no need to turn on the heater - which means more oxygen in the room and energy savings
  • I used what had long occupied the right place in the closets - the remnants of multi-colored threads left over from previous knitting, and the remains of foam rubber that remained after
  • Decorated the interior with an unusual and funny little thing

Plus, in addition to all this, I received great pleasure from work, improved my health (after all, as you know, knitting is the best way to get rid of stress) and did not spend a penny.

Everything is very simple, economical and functional. And how much pleasure and benefit.
