Advantage modern methods and repair technologies is that professional work techniques can be easily repeated by anyone without serious financial costs. Even such a process as reliable and durable gluing of linoleum. It is enough to have the necessary funds and some tools on hand.

To understand all the intricacies of working with floor flexible material, you need, first of all, to know the basic characteristics and classification of the product. This will definitely come in handy in the future.

So, linoleum (Latin linum - flax, oleum - oil) is roll material, used for decorative and protective floor finishing. There are a lot of varieties, let’s name the two most common:

Natural(Forbo, DWL, Tarkett)

This is the very first type of linoleum products. Made from a mixture of resin, linseed oil, wood flour, beeswax, fillers and pigments. All components are mixed in special mixers, and the resulting “dough” is rolled out tissue based(jute, flax, poskon). Today this is the most expensive and safest type of product for health and the environment, better known as marmoleum.

PVC linoleum(Tarkett, Juteks, Grabo)

This is a product made of thermoplastic mass, coated with a special protective layer - transparency. The base can be foamed polyvinyl chloride (VPVC) or synthetic felt (polyester fiber). High-quality material is moisture-resistant, durable, non-biodegradable, easy to install and maintain.

The range of polymer and natural linoleum products is huge. According to the scope of application, there are:

By structure they produce:

  • Homogeneous - a homogeneous layer, the pattern in which is repeated throughout its entire depth. This series includes commercial and specialized coatings.
  • Heterogeneous – multilayer material, consisting of a protective layer, a decorative base layer and a base.

According to the class of wear resistance to abrasive loads, it is divided into coatings of 21-23 (household), 31-34 (semi-commercial and commercial) and 41-43 classes (commercial and specialized).

The number of decors can be the envy of anyone else finishing material. They produce smooth and structured linoleum like boards and palace parquet, matte porcelain tiles and glossy marble, textiles and even with images of paintings, graphic drawings, etc.

And if 2 or more pieces are mounted, then a problem arises - how to fix the seam? We will describe the features of this technology below.

How to glue linoleum at joints

To prevent the seam from coming apart in the future, you can secure it using aluminum or plastic threshold. But this method is not suitable for many. Therefore, it comes to the rescue here chemical method– cold or hot welding. Let's take a closer look.

Cold welding

This is an adhesive polymer mixture that consists of almost the same components as PVC linoleum. Tetrahydrofuran or synthetic rubber compounds are used as a base. The mechanism of action is simple: upon contact with the flooring material, the adhesive composition reacts with it and slightly melts the edge. The result is that the edges are joined, the seam is almost invisible, waterproof and durable.

The material works on natural and PVC linoleum of all types - from household to commercial. Most often the product is used for work in residential areas.

Of particular importance is the composition of the material - homogeneous or multilayer. The type of adhesive mixture used depends on this. Such giants as Forbo, Tarkett, Werner Müller producing the following types cold welding:

Products processed by cold welding can be used in the temperature range from -40 ºС to +60 ºС. Any variety is slightly toxic and flammable, so you need to protect it from fire, heat, and use chemicals when working personal protection(gloves, glasses, respirator).

Hot welding

This term denotes a process, the essence of which is as follows: a welding cord of a color suitable for PVC or natural marmoleum is tucked into a special nozzle for a hair dryer, melted in it and applied to the area where the linoleum is being glued. The excess is cut off, and the seam is strong, resistant to deformation and stress.

Welding cords are made from complex polymer compounds with the addition of pigments. Since the product is produced in a wide range of decors, the manufacturer’s range of styling accessories includes at least 100 shades. If you wish, you can order your own shade, but the execution time is not short - up to 3 months.

Bonding technology using a welding cord is recommended for all linoleum products in rolls and tiles. Since specific tools and equipment are required, this method is most often used by teams professional installers for commercial homogeneous and heterogeneous coatings that are laid over large areas.

Application of cold welding

You will need:

The surface under the linoleum should be clean, free of dust and foreign debris. The coating should also be thoroughly wiped, removing dust and greasy marks. According to manufacturers' recommendations flooring material first it is glued over the entire area, after a day you can process the edges of the canvases.

First of all, you need to get a so-called tightly cut seam, that is, an absolutely even and well-fitting joint. To do this, the edges of the linoleum pieces are overlapped (from 3 to 5 cm). Using a steel ruler or bar, the strips are pressed and sharp knife or a special cutter cuts both canvases at the same time. The trimmings are removed.

If necessary, one of the linoleum cuts is fixed to the base using double sided tape. If you are afraid of damaging the upper protective layer, then you can glue paper adhesive tape to the edges before trimming, and after work, remove the remains along with the trimmings.

Scheme of working with cold welding glue.

Now you can glue masking tape onto the resulting tightly cut seam. It will protect the linoleum from excess glue, but it is necessary to seal the joint by rolling the tape with a rubber roller. You need to carefully make a cut in the middle with a knife and heat the coating a little with a hairdryer. Next, put a needle attachment on the tube, insert it into the cut and carefully squeeze out the glue, gradually moving along the seam. After 10-30 minutes (according to the instructions on the package), you can remove the paper tape

When working with type C cold welding, the joint area must be cleared of debris, glue residues, etc. Place a nozzle with a flattened nozzle on the tube and slowly fill the seam transparent glue with a small margin (adhesive compounds shrink up to 75%). Allow to dry for 2-24 hours depending on the width of the gap. If necessary, repeat the process by applying glue over the old one.

It is not advisable to fill gaps of 4 mm or wider with two parallel or more seams. It is better to glue a strip of linoleum.

Hot welding work

To glue the joint of cuts commercial linoleum, you will need:

Advice! The temperature and speed of welding work must be adjusted based on the characteristics of the coating. For optimal results, it is advisable to carry out a test weld on scrap or a small section.

Work order:

Groove Formation

For all types of linoleum, a semicircular cutter is suitable, with which a gap is cut, which will subsequently be filled with the melted cord. If a homogeneous commercial coating is being laid, it is better to use a triangular hand tool or a milling machine. In the latter case, it is necessary to leave a small gap of 0.3 mm wide between the canvases.

Carrying out welding

Measure the length of the future seam and cut the appropriate amount from the roll. Insert the tape into the nozzle and turn on construction hair dryer. The device must be held straight so that hot air fell onto the cord and partially into the cut channel. Press the edge of the heated strip to the joint and, gradually moving, completely fill the groove with it.

Removing excess

After the cord has cooled a little, trim the protruding part with a knife with a guide. Final adjustment and smoothing should be carried out after the work area has cooled completely.

The finished coating should be monolithic, waterproof and almost invisible. To get the perfect result, entrust styling to professionals.

Advice! If you need repairmen, there is a very convenient service for selecting them. Just submit in the form below detailed description work that needs to be done and you will receive offers by email with prices from construction crews and companies. You can see reviews about each of them and photographs with examples of work. It's FREE and there's no obligation.

It is necessary to join the edges of adjacent sheets as neatly and evenly as possible.

The most convenient way to join linoleum:

  1. The edges of individual pieces of linoleum that we we want to glue it together, we need to put it on each other friend overlap. There should be overlap 5-6 cm.
  2. In order for the joining of linoleum to be tight and almost invisible, it is necessary to simultaneously cut through two layers of linoleum (the upper one, which overlaps, and the lower one).

    If the linoleum is lying on a hard surface, then we advise you to place something softer under the cutting line in order to cut right through the linoleum.

    Press the ruler firmly along the cutting line, using stationery knife cut the linoleum. Remove the cut pieces and backing. We connect linoleum. If you cut two pieces at once, you will get an even, invisible joint.

Hot welding technology for linoleum

This method is suitable for joining dense commercial linoleum and guarantees high quality seams. Hot welding is used when the floor covering is already glued.

Sequence of actions when hot welding linoleum

    The individual parts of linoleum fit tightly to each other.

    It is necessary to cut a small groove along the joint for laying the welding cord.

    The surface of linoleum should be degreased and cleaned of dust and debris.

    It is necessary to select a welding cord (it is advisable to select it from the same linoleum collection) and thread it into the welding gun.

    We run the gun along the groove. When heated, the cord melts and, after cooling, forms a strong linoleum connection.

At home, hot welding is usually not used, since it takes place at a temperature of 300-400 degrees ( heat may damage household types linoleum). In addition, if the patterns and seams being connected are very complex, then it is better to use cold welding.

Cold welding and its types

Cold joining of linoleum is carried out using special glue, which can be bought at any hardware store. Advantage this method is that you do not need to call a specialist (which is necessary when gluing linoleum by hot welding).

What glue to use

There are several types of glue for cold joining linoleum.

Cold welding: type A

Type A cold welding is used to join new, solid or commercial linoleum. Thanks to its liquid consistency, this glue allows you to make thin seams. If the linoleum is tightly and precisely joined, then the seam is not visible at all.

Cold welding: type C

When repairing old linoleum and needing to fill wider joints, type C adhesive is used because it is thicker. After drying, such a seam may have a protrusion that should be cut off with a knife.

Cold welding: T type

To connect PVC linoleum to a polyester base, type T welding is used. This type of cold welding is less common, but it is the one most often used by professionals.

How to glue linoleum using cold welding

To work you will need:

    Cold welding (glue)

    Masking tape

    Stationery knife

How to glue linoleum using cold welding

    It is necessary to join the linoleum tightly.

    Cold welding can damage the front part of the linoleum, so masking tape should be applied to the joints.

    Use a utility knife to cut the tape along the joint line.

    Apply glue to the seam, connecting the linoleum along the joint.

    After drying, we can remove the masking tape with excess glue.

Linoleum is the most unpretentious, undemanding and cheap option floor covering. Moreover, it can be laid in rooms with increased level humidity, for example in the kitchen. This is very often decisive when choosing it. And after the acquisition there are very important questions: is it worth gluing linoleum to the base and how to glue the linoleum so that it forms a single sheet? In this article, we will find out in what cases it is necessary to glue linoleum to the floor and how to do it, and we will also figure out how to make the joints invisible.

“Cold welding” for gluing linoleum - and the joint is almost invisible

Why is it necessary to glue linoleum

When laying linoleum, you want it to look like a whole monolithic layer on the floor, and there are no visible joints. Today, it is not difficult to purchase foreign-made material, which is produced in rolls up to 4 m wide. This size will be quite enough so that in domestically built premises it will occupy the entire area. In this case, there is no need to glue the joints: you can choose linoleum exactly to the size of the room.

Domestic manufacturers produce linoleum 1.5 m wide. When purchasing it, you cannot do without carefully adjusting the canvases and gluing the joints.

Gluing linoleum to the base will create a more durable monolithic coating

Of course, you can lay linoleum without gluing it to the base. But the so-called loosely laid linoleum has a number of disadvantages.

Firstly, during use, potholes and swelling from the legs of the chairs will appear.

Secondly, when moving furniture, a wave will “go”, the linoleum will swell, it will be difficult to straighten it without removing all heavy furniture from the premises.

Thirdly, the distance between the joints of the canvases may increase over time, they will “spread apart”.

Fourthly, un-glued linoleum is easier to damage with a sharp cutting object.

Gluing linoleum to the base will avoid these problems and create a monolithic coating. Even if you purchased a canvas that is wide enough to cover the entire room, you should still use glue. This will extend the life of the flooring by 40-50%.

There are several types of linoleum glue, different in composition and purpose. When choosing which glue to glue linoleum with, it is necessary to take into account the type and material of linoleum.

Dispersion adhesives

Dispersion adhesive is used for gluing linoleum to the base

Dispersion adhesives are aqueous suspensions and solutions of acrylic or carboxymethylcellulose with various additives. Such adhesives are non-toxic and practically odorless. Disadvantages include susceptibility to moisture and low temperatures. For example, dispersion adhesive that is frozen during transportation or storage loses its properties.

Acrylate glue used for laying heterogeneous and homogeneous linoleum in rooms with moderate and high traffic.

Bustilat used for gluing linoleums with felt base. It contains carboxymethylcellulose, latex and chalk.

Gumilax suitable for styling natural linoleum. It is based on latex and rubber.

Conductive glue used in rooms with big amount electronic technology. In this case, it is necessary to lay an antistatic coating.

Bitumen mastics fix linoleum on a fabric base.

Dispersion adhesives are used for gluing linoleum to the base. To do this, apply a layer of 0.5-0.6 mm thick to the floor using a notched trowel, after which the coating sheets are laid. Depending on the type, the consumption of linoleum glue ranges from 200 g/m2 to 500 g/m2. The exact quantity will be indicated on the package.

Adhesive for cold welding of linoleum

The second name of this type of adhesive is reactionary. It is dictated by the properties of the glue itself. He enters chemical reaction with the base of linoleum, practically melts it, turning the joints into a strong, rigid intermediate strip. This effect is also called diffusion: the glue connects the linoleum sheets together, dissolving their edges into each other.

Reaction adhesive is ideal when used to install commercial linoleum.

This glue is complex chemical compound, which is based on polyurethane and epoxy resin. It has a very pungent odor and is also explosive and flammable.

Reaction adhesive is called "cold weld" because it is used as an adhesive for linoleum joints. Gluing two canvases together is very similar to “welding”.

There are several types of glue, each of which is used for laying linoleum of a certain type and age and on different stages works

Cold welding A-type adhesive is used for gluing joints of new linoleum

It has the most liquid consistency of all. Can only be used for gluing joints of new, just laid linoleum. To do this, the canvases are tightly glued to the base, the pattern is combined and the joint is coated with cold type-A welding. As a result, the seam will be transparent and durable; it can only be detected by touch. By the way, linoleum should be commercial or household, but hard.

“C-type Cold Welding” adhesive is used for gluing joints with large gaps

It has a thick consistency. Used for gluing “loose” joints of old linoleum. As a rule, the distance between the old linoleum sheets is quite large. This glue not only glues the joints together, but also creates, as it were, a strip of linoleum between them. C-type cold welding is used for gluing gaps 3-4 mm wide.

T-type cold welding

Used for gluing PVC linoleum to a polyester base.

First of all, it should be noted that when using joint adhesive, be sure to wear gloves on your hands. And it’s better to protect Airways, since the glue has a pungent odor and is very toxic.

Important! It is undesirable to allow glue to get on the surface of the linoleum. It will not be possible to completely remove the blot. Even if you follow the advice of experts, wait until the glue dries and pick it off with a sharp knife, a noticeable mark will still remain on the surface. To prevent this from happening, it is convenient to use a rag or rags. When opening, carrying, or using a tube of glue, always hold it over a rag, in which case drops of glue will fall on it. Then the rag must be immediately thrown away in a place where it cannot stick to the linoleum.

Cold welding technology is quite simple:

  • We clean the gap that we will glue from dust and moisture.
  • Place single-sided tape along the entire length of the joints.

Apply tape to the joints and cut along the gap

  • Before applying the glue, carefully cut the tape at the joint.
  • Squeeze glue from the tube into the gap.

We squeeze A-type cold welding into the gap between the linoleum sheets

  • After 10-20 minutes, the tape can be removed.
  • After an hour you can walk on the floor.

Important! The shorter the seam, the stronger and more invisible the connection. Taking into account the fact that it is practically impossible to make the floor perfectly level, there is always the possibility of differences in heights and bulges on the floor. If you glue linoleum along its entire length at once, at the site of the defect it will begin to bristle and bulge. This can be prevented by gluing the joints in 50-70 cm sections, each time waiting for the glue to dry. In this case, the seam will be smooth and invisible.

Glued linoleum will last much longer than loosely laid linoleum and will not budge or bulge. And joints glued with cold welding will simply be invisible. Try to follow the technology and follow the instructions on the glue package.

Many consumers use linoleum to cover indoor floors. Companies in Russia and abroad produce many types of flooring in various colors and qualities. This material has a number of advantages compared to other materials:

  • high moisture resistance and abrasion resistance;
  • Available in a wide range;
  • is produced in the optimal price range, which allows you to select the material based on the financial capabilities of the consumer.

Selection of the necessary linoleum for flooring

For indoor flooring, many types of coating are available, which must meet certain parameters:

  • By color scheme and drawing;
  • by thickness and density;
  • on environmental friendliness.

Enterprises produce many types of linoleum, which imitates stone, parquet, laminate, carpet covering And ceramic tiles. The color scheme is also varied and should take into account the lighting and design of the room, the style of furniture and the color of the walls.

The durability of the floor covering largely depends on the thickness of the top facing layer, which ensures the wear resistance of the coating. It is not recommended to purchase and lay linoleum thinner than 3 mm indoors; it wears out quickly and loses its attractive appearance.

Companies producing quality material, to confirm the quality of the coating, a quality certificate must be attached.

Assortment and types of linoleum

The material marking is indicated by two numbers that determine the class of coating - the first number indicates the type of room for which the linoleum is intended, and the second number indicates the load.

Using European classification EN 685, there are 3 types of premises:

  1. – used for living;
  2. – administrative, office;
  3. – intended for production purposes.

Based on the load on the coating, they are divided into:

  • – medium intensity;
  • – at high load;
  • – very intensive use.
  • The material is produced with a multilayer structure - a top face layer and a layer consisting of insulating material. Facial layer is made of PVC and, based on the thickness of the top layer, is divided into the following types:

    • household (PVC layer thickness 0.1–0.3 mm, class 21–23);
    • semi-commercial (PVC layer thickness 0.4–0.5, class 31–32);
    • commercial (PVC layer thickness from about 6 mm, class 33).

    Next comes a special layer of reinforced mesh, made of glass cotton and laid between the front and bottom layers of the coating. And for heat insulation - a soundproofing layer made of PVC foam.

    To increase the durability of linoleum, the composition includes a layer of polyester, which allows the coating to better withstand low temperatures.

    To give the material an aesthetic appearance, the surface is coated with moisture-resistant varnish.

    Linoleum, cut into squares, is also used as flooring. various sizes - floor tiles. Tiles are available in different qualities and colors; their use simplifies the installation of flooring. The work carried out is especially simplified - laying tiles, done with your own hands.

    Of particular note is the most common use of linoleum for flooring in the kitchen, bathroom, laundry room and hallways. Consumers are faced with the question of how to join linoleum: do the work themselves or use the services of a specialist? The main disadvantage is the linoleum flooring in the premises various sizes, since the width of the coating has a certain value and requires joining the seams between the sheets.

    The question arises of how to join the material, with the ability to make the connection unnoticed, fitting the joint seams as tightly as possible. Linoleum is cut according to required sizes premises, and the joints are connected by welding. This operation can be performed with your own hands if you have experience in carrying out such work. Welding technology is carried out according to different methods, but with the obligatory condition the soldering of linoleum must be done correctly with high quality and fast.

    Mainly two types of connections are used:

    • cold welding;
    • hot welding.

    Hot welding is mainly used for joining linoleum, in administrative and production premises, and cold in apartments. How to solder linoleum with high quality, quickly and what tools are needed for this? When hot welding, linoleum is connected using special tool, which makes it possible to join the edges of linoleum at temperatures above 350*C.

    For residential premises, cold welding is used, which can be done with your own hands and is simpler and in a convenient way, consisting of operations:

    1. The joined sheets of material along the joining seam are superimposed on each other with an overlap of 2–3 cm.
    2. Using a long strip, an undercut is made at the site of application - one seam is formed between two sheets of coating.
    3. To protect the front side of the linoleum, tape is applied to the seam.
    4. Next, the tape is cut exactly along the seam.
    5. Glue is applied with reverse side material.
    6. Excess glue is removed.
    7. If necessary, a connecting strip is installed on the seam at the junction in the doorway.

    For joining linoleum at home, 3 types of adhesives “A”, “C” and “T” are used. Composition “A” is an adhesive composition of liquid consistency, used mainly when gluing new flooring. Adhesive composition “C” has a thicker consistency and is used for gluing existing coatings during repairs. When using composition “A”, the edges of the linoleum are partially dissolved, forming a strong connection.

    The composition “Werner Müller”, produced in 2 types “A” and “C”, received a positive characteristic as an adhesive for linoleum. One tube is enough for gluing seams from 6 to 10 linear meters. The composition “Homapol”, which is diluted with water and has universal use, has good adhesive properties.

    For the connection, a class “T” composition is also used, which is intended for gluing PVC linoleum made on a polyester basis.

    “Hot welding” is performed using a special tool and a polymer welding cord. When joining linoleum using this method, the molten polymer firmly fixes the two sheets of coating. For connection, a welding machine powered by electricity is used.

    The welding process consists of sequential operations:

    1. Initially, the edges of linoleum sheets are processed. A special knife is used to cut a groove along the seam with a depth of up to half the thickness of the sheet of material.
    2. The seam is thoroughly cleaned of dust and foreign impurities.
    3. The welding machine is turned on and a period of time is given to warm up to a temperature of 350–400*C. A nozzle is mounted on the device and a welding cord is connected.
    4. With help welding machine Both sheets are connected under the influence of molten polymer.
    5. Excess polymer is removed using a special knife.
    6. A seam is created by running a joint line in both directions.

    Linoleum coating is durable and lasts for years without losing its appearance. The connecting seam between the sheets of coating firmly holds the welded coating, forming a single protective layer. When joining linoleum in doorways between rooms, a special decorative strip is used. Much of the work on laying linoleum and tiles can be done with your own hands, which significantly reduces the cost of repairs. In case of damage, tiles can be easily replaced with new sheets. The main thing is to do all the operations correctly, in compliance with the technology and so that the seams between the sheets are inconspicuous and durable.

    The production of linoleum has constantly changed and improved, but one fact remains unchanged - this is the most popular roll covering. The material has high performance characteristics, easy to install and unpretentious in matters of daily care.

    The main problem during installation is the connection of two or more canvases, when you need to make a high-quality and invisible joint. Let's figure out how to join linoleum together if the coating will be laid in several sheets.

    Why join panels together?

    According to building regulations According to the rules, linoleum is laid on a flat supporting base made of concrete or wood. Under wooden base means a floor with a structure on joists, on which a flooring made of plywood, gypsum or wood fiber sheets is fixed.

    Linoleum is fastened or fixed using a special adhesive composition: acrylate, Bustilate, PVA, bitumen or rubber mastic. The use of glue allows you to reliably hold the material on the floor surface. As a result, during operation the material does not slip, spreads less, and does not bulge around the perimeter of the room.

    When laying material in two or more sheets, labor costs increase, since the sheets have to be joined. This is necessary so that the floor covering provides airtightness, which is the highest priority when working with rolled materials.

    Joining linoleum allows you to avoid damage to the linoleum fabric when walking

    That is, after laying, even in several rows, by gluing the seams, a durable and monolithic base is created in the form of a linoleum sheet. This avoids problems that arise when water and dirt get under the coating. Additionally, the overall penetration of noise into the room through interfloor ceilings is reduced.

    When walking on the surface, there are no situations where residents catch on the edge of the surface, which can lead to a person falling and getting injured. The declared service life of linoleum is no different from classic way flooring in one sheet.

    Possible connection methods

    You can connect linoleum to each other using different methods: adhesives, welding cord, finishing elements. The choice of method depends entirely on the type of linoleum and the location where the joint of the linoleum sheet will be located.

    On the left - cold welding in tubes, on the right - hot welding of linoleum

    To connect seams to each other located across the area of the room, you can use the following methods:

    • cold welding - joining the fabric using special glue in tubes. The adhesive composition has different markings: "A", "C" and "T". For new household linoleum"A" type glue welding is used. It has a liquid consistency that quickly penetrates into the tight joint between the canvases;
    • hot welding - the gluing process takes place using a construction hair dryer and a special polyvinyl chloride cord. When exposed to temperatures above 300 C, the cord melts, filling the seam. After drying, a dense and reliable joint is formed, similar in composition to linoleum. This method is used to connect natural and commercial linoleum.

    The third method is used when the joint is located in a doorway. In this case, you can use a finishing threshold that is mounted on fasteners in the form of self-tapping screws or facing nails.

    The advantages of such a connection include: quick dismantling If necessary, carry out repairs and remove the old coating. And also the threshold slightly hides the door gap between the floor and bottom part doors, which significantly improves appearance door frame.

    Use this connection in the hallway or rooms with high humidity It is highly not recommended, since the appearance of the element will quickly suffer due to increased loads.

    Technology using glue

    To connect linoleum at the joint using welding glue, you will need to purchase suitable composition depending on the total length of the joining seam. To do this, roughly measure the length of the room and multiply by the number of seams that are supposed to be sealed.

    Cold welding is available in small tubes with a volume of 40 to 60 ml. On average, 45–50 ml of cold welding is enough for connection 18–22 linear meters linoleum cloth. In addition, to carry out the joining, you will need to purchase masking tape and a sharp stationery or construction knife, and rubber gloves.

    You can correctly join linoleum together as follows:

    If, after removing the tape, small excess glue is visible, then it is better to play it safe and not cut it off right away. Wait until the mixture completely polymerizes and becomes solid. This will help quickly remove hard stains from the joint.

    When working with type “C” welding, the seam does not need to be glued. The mixture has sufficient viscosity and a thicker consistency. It will not spread as much during application as Type A glue. The process of repairing an old seam is similar to the previous technology. Old seam will need to be thoroughly cleaned with a vacuum cleaner. It is advisable to remove lagging pieces of coating, if any.

    The mixture is applied over the entire width of the joint. It's important to remember that maximum width the seam should not exceed 2 mm, otherwise after drying the mixture will not be able to provide sufficient strength between the two coating sheets.

    Hot welded connections

    Connecting the canvases to each other using the method hot welding is more in a reliable way, but is only used when laying marmoleum, natural or commercial type linoleum.

    It is impossible to join a household coating using this technology, since such linoleum is thinner and will not withstand temperatures of 300–400 C. Hot welding will simply melt the coating and damage its underlying base.

    The welded cord is selected based on the color and type of linoleum

    The work, as in the previous case, is carried out after gluing and trimming the joint through the overlap of one canvas onto another. Afterwards you need to let the coating rest. It is best to make the connection after 24-36 hours.

    Further work will consist of the following:

    1. The entire length of the seam is chamfered using a special cutter. It is better to use a cutter on rollers for more precise adjustment of the chamfer depth. After removal, the chamfer is cleaned with a vacuum cleaner.
    2. The welding machine or hair dryer warms up for 2–3 minutes to the desired temperature (300 C). Next, a nozzle for feeding a polyvinyl chloride cord is put on the tip of the hair dryer.
    3. The cord must be threaded into the nozzle and leave a small margin of 1 cm. Then the tip of the hair dryer is applied to the beginning of the seam and drawn along the entire length. During the work you need to lightly press the cord.
    4. After cooling, the cord is trimmed flush with the coating. Used for trimming special knife. The pruning process can be divided into two stages. First, cut off most of the cooled cord. Then we form an even joint with a second pass of the cutting blade.

    Hot welding technology can be seen in the video located in this article. Especially if you plan to carry out this work yourself. The only disadvantage of this method is that a hair dryer will have to be rented or purchased separately.

    Docking using a strip

    The connecting strip is mounted using self-tapping screws of the required length

    The decorative threshold is available in various variations. We recommend purchasing a T-shaped metal product with in a hidden way installation This threshold looks more presentable due to hidden system fastening using a narrow strip located in the center of the product.

    The length of the threshold directly depends on the width doorway. If the coating was laid on a concrete floor, then to carry out the work you will need to prepare a hammer drill. If linoleum is laid on wooden base, then you need a screwdriver.

    First of all, you need to prepare a seam, the width of which is equal to the width of the lower element of the threshold. Next, holes are drilled for plastic dowels. After the dowels are hammered into the holes, the threshold is mounted and fixed using self-tapping screws. On final stage a middle element is inserted to hide the fasteners.

    If a universal threshold is used for floor coverings, then the longitudinal strip is first mounted, after which the front element itself is snapped on top. Video on joining linoleum in doorways located above.
