It should be noted that LINK-O-LOON garlands do not contain braid or fishing line, the balls are held on cords. When acting on the garland, the load will be applied to the outer balls. Therefore, it is not recommended to make such garlands extended or use them outdoors.

Notes on making garlands

Hand safety

When weaving garlands, there is a risk of injuring your hands. The braid or fishing line used to tie the clusters together chafes the skin on the hands, causing calluses to form. For safety, it is recommended to work in ordinary cotton gloves, which are used by builders.

Compressor safety

When massively inflating balloons, the compressor works almost without interruption and heats up. It is necessary to constantly monitor the temperature of the discharge air and ensure that the compressor does not overheat. When the air pumped by the compressor begins to turn from warm to hot, it is necessary to either take a break or change the compressor. A good way to quickly cool down the compressor is to put it in the refrigerator.

Garland safety

Contact of the balls with the floor and other surfaces where dust and dirt may accumulate should be avoided as much as possible. Balls in fours, or already tied into a garland, in contact with dust, receive damage, which leads to the balls either immediately bursting, or their life time is significantly reduced.

During weaving, clusters and garlands can be placed on the floor, only covering it with film. Good decision there will be a path made up of chairs with their backs facing backwards, so that in profile it resembles the letter “H”. Pieces of garland or prepared clusters can be placed on this improvised bed. The ideal solution is the ability to do everything by weight and not place the balls anywhere.

If the garland is made indoors for subsequent transportation to the installation site, then it is recommended to make it in pieces of 2 - 3 m each, and tie the pieces into a single whole directly at the installation site. This method is more convenient to use and transport and is safer for the garland, i.e. it will not need to be bent. Of course, to transport garlands you need to use clean transport, or protect the garland with film.

Garland repair

During production, some balloons already tied into the garland will deflate or burst. The deflating balloon must be burst, instead, a balloon of the required size must be inflated and tied into a knot and tied to the center of the cluster being repaired.

It is much more difficult to carry out such repairs on a garland already installed at a height. And there will most likely be a need for it. A few balls are bound to be damaged during production and it will be revealed too late.

If possible, it is recommended to let the garland “sit down” before installation. For example, you can make a garland in the evening, let it rest overnight, and install it the next morning. During the night, all the balloons that received damage to the walls during manufacturing will definitely begin to deflate, and they will become noticeable. In this case, the garland is repaired before installation, which is much simpler.

Unusual garlands

For unusual designs You can try to weave garlands not only from round balls. It is quite possible to create garlands from latex hearts. Hearts in clusters can be oriented both across the garland axis and along it. No less interesting solution there will be garlands made of foil balloons: circles or hearts.

The method of weaving such garlands is the same: first, clusters are created, and then they are tied into a garland.

Garlands of balloons inflated with helium

It is quite possible to weave garlands from balloons, inflated with helium instead of air. If the balloons are of sufficient size (10" or more), then the garland will tend to take off in the same way as a regular balloon inflated with helium. If you fasten the beginning and end of the garland, the garland will take the shape of an arch. If you fasten only one end of the garland, then it will will stand upright.

This technique is often used for LINK-O-LOON garlands. Round garlands are inflated with helium if it is necessary to create a large arch, but it is not possible to use a frame.

In order to land the garland, it is necessary to use weights of appropriate mass. For example, 10 m of a round garland of four balloons, inflated with helium to a size of 25 cm, will consist of 212 balloons. Each ball creates a lifting force of 10 g. Thus, the lifting force of the entire garland will be more than 2 kg. The mass of each weight holding the ends of the garland must be at least 1 kg.

The sailing effect of the helium garland should be taken into account. The wind will tilt and swing the garland, so it makes sense to use “flying up” garlands only indoors.
