  • take a break every 10-15 seconds to cool the tool and working area;
  • moisten the drilling site and drill with water or a special cooling emulsion.

Working intermittently avoids overheating of the tool and material. It is overheating that most often causes sheet cracking.

When drilling is almost finished, the most critical moment comes, since the risk of chipping around the exit hole becomes maximum. This moment is also felt by the increase in resistance felt on the drill handle. Experienced glaziers advise in this case to turn the sheet over and carefully start drilling from the opposite side. Then both the inlet and outlet holes will be neat, without chips or irregularities.

If irregularities do occur, they should be polished with sandpaper or an abrasive stone.

Don't forget about proper preparation to work. The sheet must be laid on a flat base. It should rest evenly on the lining over the entire area and not slip over it. The edges of the sheet should not extend beyond the base. Best to use plywood sheet, upholstered in thick wool fabric.

Before installation, you should thoroughly sweep or vacuum the base to remove any debris or small glass fragments.

For drilling tempered glass It is better to use waterjet cutting equipment. Home-grown methods will most likely lead to cracks.
