Consumers have only now begun to appreciate all the advantages of blinds and realized that the use of this item is possible not only in office premises. Attaching blinds to plastic windows provides good protection from sunlight without interfering with the opening of window sashes and ventilation of the room.

Design options

Blinds are divided into the following types:

  • horizontal;
  • vertical;
  • roll;
  • pleated.

The slats for them are made from the following materials:

  • plastic;
  • metal;
  • fabrics;
  • wood;
  • bamboo

Horizontal blinds They are, of course, horizontally located and fixed to each other lamellas. They rotate around an axis and rise up when opened. The mobility of such a curtain is carried out using a chain.

Vertical work similarly to horizontal ones. Move according to your wishes: to the right, left or from the center in different directions.

Roller blinds They cover the entire window area and are a single sheet that can always be rolled up.

Pleated blinds have an unusual texture. Curtains that have been corrugated and impregnated with a special compound for strength can be horizontal or vertical. They are assembled with an accordion and can be mounted on a window opening or on a frame. The structure is controlled using a cord or chain.

Which ones to choose for the balcony?

Since in the summer all rooms are always ventilated, it is worth thinking about whether it is necessary to install blinds on plastic windows for a balcony or loggia? Will they interfere with the constant opening and closing of the doors? The answer is clear - you need blinds on the balcony. Especially when the balcony is turned into a separate room.

When choosing this decorative element for a balcony, carefully study the features of fastening the blinds. Of course, you should not forget about personal preferences and tastes. Thanks to the variety of configurations, materials and color shades, you can choose light filters for any interior, but following a few rules when choosing:

  • balcony windows often open, so blinds must be practical;
  • their fastenings must be reliable and functional;
  • for a balcony it is better to choose fabric or plastic models, since wooden and metal ones make a lot of noise;
  • not all types of blinds fastening are suitable for balcony windows, in particular for sliding and aluminum ones.

Tip: Plastic blinds will be the best option for balconies and loggias. They do not fade in the sun, are light in weight, easy to use, easy to clean and retain their decent appearance for a long time.

How to decide on your own sizes

Those who decide to install blinds with their own hands need to know that measuring the window requires special accuracy. You can get the most accurate result using a steel tape measure. An important condition in performing this process is precision down to the millimeter. Not a single window (window opening) has an ideal rectangular shape, so any parameter is measured in several places.

Before taking measurements, you need to decide on the installation method, that is, how to attach the blinds to plastic windows:

  • into the opening;
  • on the wall;
  • on the sash.

Measuring rules for each type of fastening

  1. Measurements for fastening blinds to the opening are made according to the width and length of the window opening. Their length is equal to the height of the glass with a margin of 1 cm and taking into account the sealing rubber bands. To determine the width of the blinds, add the width of one sealing rubber to the width of the window glass. It is necessary to ensure that the curtain rod does not rest against the hinges and slopes. The length of the blind chain should be 2/3 the height of the window. The chain is usually located on the loop side. It is also necessary to take into account that when assembled the blinds do not interfere with the opening of the window.
  2. When attaching blinds to the wall their height is determined independently. They can completely cover the window opening or be slightly higher than the window sill. Their width should be 10 cm greater than the width of the window opening. In this case, it is also necessary to take into account that the curtain rod will take up approximately 5 cm from the top.
  3. When attaching blinds to PVC windows on the sash The distance between two vertical beads is measured. To determine the length of the blinds, the length of the window is measured. If you do not plan to leave a side gap, then you need to add 30 mm to the width of the blinds.

Advice: If you are afraid of making a mistake in your calculations, seek the help of specialists who will correctly measure your blinds.

Mounting methods

Before hanging the blinds, you need to decide whether you need a window sill to place, for example, flowers. Blinds are attached in two ways: without drilling or by drilling. The cornice is the basis of any blinds. It is the cornice that is attached to the ceiling, to the wall, in the window opening or to the sash. Special brackets can serve as support for the cornice.

Installation of blinds using drilling

If the curtains are hung on each window sash, then fastening is carried out using self-tapping screws. The top bar of the blinds is applied to the top edge of the double-glazed window, where the attachment points are marked with particular precision. For more accurate fastening, you can pre-drill small holes. Then the brackets are applied to the marked places under the very top of the double-glazed window frame and securely fastened with self-tapping screws using a screwdriver, after which the blinds are installed on them.

Next, a fishing line is attached to hold the slats. To do this, two holes are made on the frame under the lower glazing beads of each sash. The holes are drilled exactly under the corresponding line exits located on the top bar of the blinds. The lower ends of the fishing line threaded into the blind system are threaded into the plugs. The plugs, in turn, are threaded into the holes made, and the fishing line is stretched.

This fastening method is used to install roller or horizontal blinds. Vertical curtains are attached to the upper slope of the window, to the wall or to the ceiling also by drilling. First, holes are drilled in the ceiling or wall using a hammer drill into which dowels are inserted. The curtain rod is screwed on with screws.

Installation of blinds without drilling

If you have to remove and put away the blinds in the future, the holes will become a big drawback to the appearance of the window. Therefore, to install blinds on a window sash, you can use brackets, which can be attached to the frame in the following ways:

  • fastening to the upper part of the profile if the sash opens;
  • using double-sided tape.

Using magnets on the flap (bottom), the blinds are held parallel to the window when it is opened.

These methods are more gentle and safer in terms of damage to the metal-plastic frame. Attaching blinds to windows without drilling is quite reliable. And you can remove them for cleaning, for example, with almost one movement of your hand.

All blinds have the correct geometric shape, so the markings for attaching the top strip of the blinds must be done with extreme precision. The slightest distortion will spoil the overall appearance of the window, and will also complicate the operation of the moving mechanisms of the light filters.

Mounting features

Rolled

Roller blinds are best installed directly onto the window sash. This method is associated with ease of installation and subsequent operation. Blinds installed in other ways do not allow the window to be opened when the curtains are closed. The parts of roller blinds are made of plastic, so the structures require careful handling during installation.

It may also be useful to you in landscaping. You will find instructions for installing it on a balcony here.

Horizontal

An important feature of horizontal blinds is the ability to be installed in places where installation and operation of other types of blinds is impossible for a number of reasons. They can completely close the window, or be installed on each sash, and it is also possible to place horizontal blinds between the frames.

Vertical

Blinds of this type are attached in three ways:

  • to the upper slope of the window;
  • on the wall;
  • on the ceiling.

Attached only by drilling. Particular care must be taken when drilling a slope with a hammer drill, otherwise part of the wall may break off.

How to remove blinds

We have looked at options for installing blinds on a window, but there comes a time when these curtains, even the most reliable and durable ones, need to be cleaned or washed. To do this, they must be removed. How to remove blinds and how is this process performed depending on their type?

How to remove vertical

  • Open the slats and assemble them together.
  • Remove the chain from the weights, pull out the weights.
  • Remove each lamella: the elongated part of the slider clip is moved to the side, the lamella is raised up, then moved to the side.

How to remove horizontal

  • Unfasten the cornice from the brackets.
  • If there is a decorative cover, remove it.
  • Lift the slats up and find the tabs of the clamps on the top edge.
  • Pull the lock first towards you and then to the right.
  • Pull the curtains forward and down.
  • Remove the entire structure.

How to remove roll

  • The tongue located on the bracket is bent with a screwdriver.
  • The shaft is removed from the bracket by moving towards you or downwards.

Instructions for installing blinds

This section demonstrates video instructions on how to install blinds on metal-plastic windows. Installation is carried out using self-tapping screws on the window sash.

Installing blinds solves many problems with window decoration. Curtains, drapes, tulles, no matter what fabric they are made from, require frequent washing, since dust and dirt accumulate on them. The thickness of the curtains determines how well they transmit or block light.

Blinds are much more convenient than curtains in many aspects.

Depending on the angle at which the lamellas are located, they completely open access to natural light into the room, partially block it, gently diffuse it, or completely isolate the room not only from light, but also from thermal radiation. They do not require special care, and installing blinds yourself is not difficult.

Varieties

Horizontal

The light-protective design with horizontal lamellas has become familiar, almost classic for window design.

Advantages:

  • Compactness. Installed directly on the window, leaving the window sill free. This saves space and allows you to place greenery on the window in favorable conditions;
  • Low weight of the structure;
  • Strength and rigidity of the lamellas, preventing deformation;
  • Fire safety;
  • Simple control mechanism;
  • Special coating or impregnation against dust, dirt, odors and grease;
  • Resistance to humidity and temperature changes;
  • Various materials for making lamellas: wood, plastic, aluminum, less often fabrics;
  • Easy installation;
  • Affordable price.

Some disadvantages are worth mentioning:

  • When mounted on a frame, the angle of inclination of window sashes when opening is limited;
  • The slats produce a characteristic knocking or ringing sound when the wind blows. To avoid this, you need to purchase lower fasteners, which are not included in the kit and quickly become unusable;
  • The structure is subject to repair if several slats are severely deformed, but it will cost the same as new blinds;
  • Not suitable for balconies and loggias with sliding windows.

Vertical

They are distinguished from horizontal ones by:

  • More aesthetic appearance. Horizontal blinds are more likely to be functional, while vertical blinds are decorative;
  • Possibility to cover a large area with one cornice. Horizontal blinds, as a rule, consist of narrow slats and are designed for minimalistic decoration of small windows. Vertical models have different widths and easily cover the area of large windows, arches and doorways.
  • Variety of materials. They can be made of wood fibers, wood, aluminum, bamboo, plastic, woven and non-woven fabric, mirror, blackout, thread. The abundance of materials provides another advantage - variability of colors and textures;
  • Modern and original window design, opening up more design possibilities;
  • Simplicity of control mechanisms. Both mechanical and electrical are possible;
  • The ability to place photo printing on “curtains” due to the larger surface and better characteristics of the material;
  • Practicality. Larger slats are easier to wipe when necessary, which does not arise often. If in case of severe contamination, for example, in a children's room, the slats still need to be subjected to hygienic procedures, it will not take much time - they can be washed by hand and in a washing machine;
  • Possibility of installation on non-standard windows (triangle, trapezoid, arch, bay window);
  • The structure is subject to repair. To replace this or that part, you do not need to call a specialist; it is simple enough to do it yourself. You can replace the slats one at a time without having to dismantle the entire structure.

Vertical blinds, as the name suggests, are a simple and convenient light-protection structure consisting of longitudinal vertical plates.

Rolled

Roller blinds and roller shutters are solid canvases, usually made of textiles, but other materials are also possible, which, like horizontal blinds, are rolled up. The height can be adjusted by fixing the curtain with a weighting agent on the bottom strip of the canvas.

There are different types of roller shutters: with an open drum (for mounting directly on the window) and with a decorative cornice; “mini” for installation on each frame separately and “roll-cassette” for covering the entire window.

There is an opinion that roller blinds are the most budget-friendly and practical option for window design, but this is not entirely true. Of course Roller shutters have their advantages: a variety of natural and synthetic fabrics, colors and patterns, ease of care (wet cleaning is allowed) and operation, the ability to fix the curtain at the desired height, special impregnations against dust, moisture, high temperatures and glare, compatibility with other types of curtains. It is convenient if you need to hide a room from the sun, or decorate a window with beautiful tulle so that from the street you cannot see what is happening inside.

But with so many advantages, they also have significant disadvantages.:

  • Budget price- it's a delusion. Yes, a medium-sized curtain made from a common material will not cost much, but it will look boring. In order for the window design to be complete, it is necessary to consider additional decor, and this increases the cost several times;
  • Roller blinds in the bedroom, office and rooms with high windows need electrical control. Electric drive designs are expensive, and some manufacturers also produce noise;
  • Impossible make a custom curtain from a specific textile. You can only choose specific products of a specific brand, since the range of fabrics for the production of roller blinds is very limited: translucent, textured, reflective, perforated, blackout and that’s all, perhaps;
  • Maximum width roller blinds – 280-300cm, that is, covering a large area with one cornice, for example, a panoramic window or balcony;
  • They can There will be problems with installation not on the wall, but in the window opening, since the bobbin is wider in width than the curtain itself. There will inevitably be gaps on the sides of the window openings. Ceiling or wall mounting is preferable.

Pleated

This type of blinds is similar to both horizontal and roller blinds. The design consists of a control mechanism (chain or electric drive), weights, and pleated fabric that resembles accordion bellows.

The range of materials, colors and textures is very diverse.

Peculiarities:

  • They close from top to bottom, like classic canvases, from bottom to top, or from both sides at the same time. In this case, the degree of density of the “accordion” can be adjusted, thus closing either the upper, lower, or central part of the window;
  • Suitable for covering irregularly shaped windows;
  • The optimal solution for dormer, attic, ceiling and inclined windows;
  • “Opening”, the canvas is compactly folded and hidden inside the cornice;
  • Convenient for installation on all types of windows;
  • Various methods of fastening and control mechanisms (manual and electric);
  • The woven fabric is washable;
  • The curtain fabric can be made of two types of fabric at the same time, which makes it possible to regulate the degree of transparency, darkness, and sun protection;
  • Easy installation can be done by yourself.

Types of pleated:

  • Classic. In appearance they are most similar to horizontal blinds, but they can also be vertical. Made from fabric, paper or plastic. Designed to darken the room, protect against heating by the sun's rays, and zoning the interior space of the room.

  • Corrugated. This type is a vertical and horizontal double pleat. As a result, the folds look smoother, neater and denser. Corrugation made of plastic and paper in this design absorbs a significant part of the heat and protects from bright light.

  • Inclined. A type of pleated specifically for windows that are located at an angle in the attic or ceiling. Their peculiarity is in a specific assembly system, which does not allow the canvas of any material to sag when at an angle. Mostly inclined models are produced with electronic control.

  • Arched. The most flexible canvases that take any shape, like a paper fan. A good solution for rooms with non-standard window shapes (arches, trapezoids, triangles, sloping windows).

  • "Day Night". The fabric of such blinds consists of two layers of fabric: light, light-transmitting fabric for daytime use, and thick, dark fabric for protection from the bright sun during the day and prying eyes in the evening.

Cassette

Such systems involve either the use of horizontal slats or a solid fabric, but are not horizontal blinds or roller blinds. They differ in the types of cassettes (angular, round, flat), controls (various types of mechanical and remote), and the materials used (plastic, textiles, bamboo, aluminum).

Their main feature is their design, the special structure of which makes it possible to fix the blinds at a minimum distance from the window glass. This prevents deformation, sagging, wrinkles and unevenness, and completely opens the window sill.

Advantages:

  • Compactness. Cassette blinds take up a minimum of space, leaving owners the opportunity to use their imagination and organize additional window decoration or leave the window sill as a functional surface;
  • Simple and clear type of control;
  • Long service life. Special impregnation protects the canvas from dust, grease, dirt, moisture, abrasion;
  • Ease of hygiene procedures. Cassette systems do not require special care. It is enough to wipe their small surface area with a damp sponge and soapy water once every few months;
  • Variety of designs for interiors in any style;
  • The tight fit of the canvas to the surface of the glass protects equally well from heat and cold;
  • Possibility to install the system yourself;
  • A variety of materials - from light window decoration to total blackout protection;
  • Possibility to combine blinds with curtains, tulle, lambrequin.

Mounting methods

There are three types of fastening blinds: to the wall, to the ceiling, directly to the frame, and two ways - with and without drilling.

The universal basis of any fastening is the cornice, which is attached to the wall, frame or ceiling in different ways.

With drilling

This is done using self-tapping screws, brackets on which the cornice and fishing line are installed. Additionally, you will need a pencil, ruler, drill, and screwdriver.

First you need to make markings in the places where the brackets will be located.

For reliability and accuracy, it is necessary to drill holes for the clamps in the marked places. Then, applying the brackets one by one to the PVC frame, use a screwdriver to secure them to the markings. Next, the cornice is installed and the entire structure is assembled.

No drilling

If you plan to replace blinds or other window decoration options in the future, it is not recommended to damage plastic windows. The holes from the screws will remain in the frame forever and will significantly spoil the appearance of the windows. In this case, it is easier to turn to a method that does not require drilling.

In this case, the brackets are attached in two ways:

  • by the upper part of the PVC profile on the opening doors (you can simply hang it like a hook);
  • on double-sided tape, which can be glued without fear of leaving marks.

Mounting blinds on the balcony requires a special approach. The balcony design plays an important role here. The type of glazing determines the possibility of choosing certain blinds and the method of their fastening. In general, almost all options are available for balconies. Particular attention should be paid to the type of blinds, since not all of them are universal for different types of windows. For example, horizontal blinds are not suitable for a balcony with sliding windows, as they can become deformed during use or from strong winds.

Measurements and markings

The final result depends on how correctly the measurements are taken.

Even expensive, beautiful models will not look good on the window if there are gaps in the opening or the edges of the slats constantly ride up against the wall.

It is important to pay attention to the following points:

  • For the most accurate indicators, a steel tape measure is used;
  • The obtained figures cannot be rounded; accuracy must be maintained to the nearest millimeter;
  • When ordering blinds, the width parameter is indicated first, length – second;
  • Not a single window opening has absolutely ideal geometric shapes, so measurements in height and width must be made at at least two points.

Horizontal

If you plan to attach blinds to the movable half of the window, you will need to measure the gap between the glazing beads and add 30 mm or more, which will prevent gaps from appearing in the structure. The height of the blinds is equal to the height of the window sash.

For installation inside a window opening, measurements are required at three points in height and width, since openings are not always absolutely proportional.

The width is identical to the wide side of the glass plus the thickness of the rubber seal. The length is identical to the height of the window (including elastic bands) and has a margin of 1 cm. To install the cornice, you will need an additional 30-40 cm to the slopes and hinges. The control chain is 2/3 of the window height.

When choosing to fix the cornice on the wall, the width parameter increases by 10 cm, the height is measured from the point of attachment of the brackets to the floor at random.

Vertical

When installing in a window opening, you need to determine the width at the top of the arch and subtract 20 mm. To determine the height, compare the height of the left and right sides of the arch, subtract 1 cm from the smaller value.

For wall mounting, you need to add at least 10 cm to the wide side of the slope. The length of the slats can be any, but it is recommended to retreat 2 cm from the edge of the blinds to the floor.

Ceiling installation involves determining the height (to the floor or window sill) minus 2 cm, it is recommended to increase the width of the arch by 100+ mm.

Rolled

To install canvases to the wall, only one measurement is required - from the edge of the window sill to the markings for the brackets, and the width can be up to 300 cm.

In the window arch, roller blinds are installed after measuring the width, from which you need to subtract 4 centimeters, and the length of the curtain is equal to the height of the window minus 15 mm.

Pleated curtains similarly do not require a professional approach to taking measurements and installation.

Installation of vertical models

Vertical blinds are the most convenient way to decorate a window yourself. They are attached in three ways: to the ceiling, to the frame with drilling, to the frame without drilling.

In all cases, the fastener is a cornice with or without a decorative facade.

The brackets on which the structure is supported are fastened with self-tapping screws, hung or glued with double-sided tape. Special adhesive tape, despite its apparent impracticality, is fixed very firmly, so it is important to correctly apply the markings for installing the brackets. Once they are glued, moving them will be very problematic.

The procedure for installing vertical blinds:

  1. Preparing tools. You will need a stepladder, a set of screws from the kit, a building level and drawing supplies, a drill, and a screwdriver.
  2. Applying pencil markings for installing brackets. To securely fix the fasteners, it is recommended to drill holes for self-tapping screws at the same stage.
  3. Fastening the brackets in a suitable way (with or without drilling).
  4. Installation of cornice.
  5. Installation of slats. To do this, you need to pull the control cord on which the fastenings for the slats are located so that they are in the desired position. Then fix all the slats on the hooks of the fasteners.

Installation of horizontal

For installation you will need a set of tools: drill, Phillips screwdriver, screwdriver, drawing supplies.

The instructions for installing horizontal blinds on windows contain a list of items that are carried out step by step:

  1. Draw a marking line for installing brackets. It must take into account the distance between the clamps and the control mechanism, between the brackets (from 60 cm) and to the extreme areas on the blinds (25 cm). For large blind widths and significant weight, it is recommended to use intermediate fasteners.
  2. Drill holes for installing dowels on the surface to which you plan to attach the brackets. It is possible to use blinds on plastic windows without drilling.
  3. Profile installation.
  4. Fixing the top rod of the blinds on the brackets. It is important to remember that the blinds at this stage are already assembled.

Working with horizontal models on inclined surfaces requires a little more effort and skill.

How to hang roller blinds?

Like other types, roller blinds or shutters are attached in several ways: they can be hung, glued, or attached to a frame.

First way– the simplest and most accessible for do-it-yourself installation is a fastening without drilling based on double-sided adhesive tape. Suitable for tilt-and-turn mechanisms on windows. Performed step by step:

  1. Degreasing the areas of the frame and fasteners that will be connected with adhesive tape.
  2. Marking the fastening of roller shutters.
  3. Installation of roller blinds. The chain mechanism can be installed on any convenient side.
  4. Assembly of brackets.
  5. Marking for fastening brackets. To do this, you need to install them on the assembled roller blind, install it on the window without fastening, mark with a pencil the places for the adhesive tape, and remove the curtain.
  6. Applying adhesive tape to the back surface of the brackets, mounting on a window.
  7. Installing the guide string against sagging. It is attached to the “ear” of the top bracket and the weighting of the curtain, and at the bottom it is fixed in the tensioner, which is installed on the frame.

The second method involves attaching to a stationary frame (not opening):

  • First of all you need to mount the roller blind, assemble the brackets and install them on the reel. Then this structure must be fixed on the window in order to mark for fastening.
  • Second step– fastening the brackets with adhesive tape in the upper part of the frame and the string tensioner in the lower part. It is not necessary to pre-attach them with tape, but it is advisable to eliminate problems with subsequent drilling of holes for the screws. After installing the guide string, the curtain itself is mounted into the mechanisms.

How to secure cassette tapes?

You can also install cassette blinds yourself. Before installation, you must read the instructions, make sure that everything is complete, and prepare all the necessary tools: a screwdriver, drawing tools, a screwdriver, a drill, cotton pads or a small piece of cloth, and a degreaser.

When everything you need has been collected, you can proceed to the first stage - degreasing the glazing beads. Then you need to remove the side covers of the box, lift it to the top of the frame, focusing on the guide protrusions, drill holes for fastenings, and secure with screws. You can use a screwdriver for this purpose, or you can perform the process manually using a Phillips screwdriver.

Once the box is installed, you need to secure the covers to the sides. After this, you can glue the guide strips to the degreased frame. The guides should be several centimeters below the angle of the bead.

Important nuances

Installation work on window decoration requires certain skills and experience, but if you want to try it yourself, you need to take into account some of the nuances and features of this work.

Installation of blinds begins long before preparing the working surface and a set of tools.

The first step of this process– an informed decision regarding the type and variety of blinds, material, color and texture, depending on the functionality of the room. Thus, it is more advisable to choose vertical blinds for the living room that let in light, for the bedroom automatic roller blinds with electric drive made of blackout fabric, and for the kitchen, where cooking smells and food combustion products are constantly in the air, plastic blinds that do not absorb grease and dirt.

Second important point- this is the correct marking. A lot depends on it, including how easy the installation process will be. If all the architectural features of window openings are taken into account by specialists when ordering blinds from them, everything will go easily and smoothly without the help of professional installers.

It is also important to consider whether it will be possible to open the window after installation, how the light protection devices will work, and whether there is a risk of their deformation.

The installation of blinds must be carried out exactly with the markings and subsequent verification of the functionality of the structure. The most important point here is the choice between fastening - with or without drilling.

It is also necessary to provide for the type of control. For low windows, an excellent solution is one of the types of mechanical direction. Magnetic, automatic (electric) control with an electric drive is suitable for roof and inclined windows, windows in the bedroom.

Today, blinds have become especially popular, although they appeared on the market not so long ago. Some time ago they could only be seen in shops, public institutions and office buildings. But over time, they began to be installed in apartments and country houses.

For plastic windows, sizes may vary in both length and height. For this reason, it is important to determine the size of the blinds you purchase in advance. First of all, measure the window very accurately. Remember that the length and width should be large enough to be visible to the part of the glass unit.

If you are planning to install it yourself and are afraid of errors in calculations, consult with the store salesperson. He will help you complete all the calculations. If the window is double-leaf, the lifting mechanism should be on both sides - right and left.

Window measurements for blinds

Marking the future installation site

First you need to unpack the blinds and carefully study the information provided on the packaging. After this, according to the instructions, it is necessary to accurately mark the location of the fastening elements so that the blind container is securely held. Markings can be made using a pencil, tape measure and building level. Pay special attention to this process to avoid distortion. It is important to provide for the possibility of adjusting the container so that the slats do not extend beyond the window.

Installation Features

Proper installation of blinds on plastic windows, a video instruction of the process is presented in the article, allows you to do the job correctly and efficiently. Installation will require special precision and care from you. There are three main installation options:

  • into the overlay;
  • into the window opening;
  • for each sash separately.

How are blinds attached? The attachment is carried out closely to create a harmonious solution. A plastic window can be drilled with a thin drill according to marks made in advance. After this, the brackets are attached using self-tapping screws. The brackets are installed with the latches facing up. Then insert the container with the blinds and close the latches. Check the accuracy and reliability of the fit.

After this, the lower holders are installed. To do the job correctly, release the curtain and mark its position. It should not dangle, but remain taut. After this, holes are drilled in the same way. Then the holders are screwed in using screws. This allows you to securely fix the canvas with slats. Make sure that when ventilating they do not lag behind the window.

The canvas must be pulled out of the holders located below. Then lift the curtain up. Thanks to the control cord, the curtain opens and closes. The container can be easily removed and installed back. They are successfully held on the surface of the window using a bracket. If you don’t know how to remove blinds from a window, the video presented in our article will come in handy.

Features of choosing blinds

The specific choice is determined by the interior design style. There are several basic designs:

  • horizontal;
  • vertical;
  • cassette;
  • and others.

The most popular blinds are still made of plastic. They are easy to clean, last a long time and do not harm the health of people and pets. For this reason, they are often used for installation in apartments and country houses. Another interesting option is blinds with wooden slats. If the window is in a constant draft or is corner, the blinds are fixed at the bottom. Roller shutters will sway from side to side in strong winds. They can sag, hit the profile and lose their original appearance.

Mounting options

How to attach blinds directly to a window? Once you have chosen the type of design that suits you, you can order your blinds from a reliable window manufacturer. The best option would be to contact the company where you bought the windows. To order, you will need the exact dimensions of the window and the dimensions of the future blinds that will be installed on top of the window opening. The production of blinds is carried out quickly, and the technologies are as well developed as the production of the windows themselves. In addition, they have a fairly simple design.

DIY cassette blinds for windows

There are usually instructions included in the package. It describes in detail the process of installing blinds. The process itself is simple. For this reason, you may want to do the work yourself. If you have the necessary tools and experience working with a screwdriver, you can begin installation without the help of a specialist. The following tools are required for work:

  • screwdriver;
  • ruler;
  • screwdriver;
  • pencil.

Let's consider in more detail the option of installing horizontal blinds separately for each sash or section. This process is somewhat complex, but the work is carried out in a similar way.

Wooden horizontal blinds for windows

Manufacturers include everything needed for installation in the box. The main part is wound not only with fishing line, but also with a control chain. Additional elements and screws can be found in the packages. How to hang blinds? Unwind the blinds carefully and remove the trim from the cornice. There are several options for attaching blinds to the sash, among which are the following:

  • screw installation,
  • installation on brackets,
  • drilling holes in the wall surface.

When installing with screws, you need to make holes directly in the profile. This option is one of the most durable and reliable mounting options. The tightness of the profile will not be affected. But this option is not suitable for everyone, because it may be necessary to remove the blinds. As a result, holes will remain, which will become a large external flaw. To avoid this, use mounting on brackets. They do not require the creation of additional holes.

Installation with plastic drilling

When using the drilling method, you will need screws. To do this, you will have to make precise markings on the windows. It is important to outline the future position for the top bar. It will be attached directly to the surface of the window. The simplest and most popular design is the one located at the top of the glass unit. It fits onto the window frame with grooves. Thanks to the strict connection to the top of the sash, it becomes possible to install the blinds yourself, even if your calculations are not very accurate.

Installation of blinds with self-tapping screws

In the case of plastic windows, you can get by altogether. Most roller shutters are equipped with screws for reliability. They are installed directly into the profile. The carrier is applied to the window directly under the top of the frame on the sash.

Please note that the mounting plate and window may have different plane depths. Because of this, the mounting plates may not fit tightly enough to the window.

Use U-shaped shims to securely fasten the plates and eliminate any possible gap. One or more pads may be needed. They should completely close the gap. The position of the carrier is marked along the lower edges of the plates. Then you can focus on them. As a result, you will be able to install the blinds smoothly.

Window blinds are also installed using screws directly into the profile. A screwdriver is used for this. The screws fit easily into the plastic and hold well in it. It is necessary to make markings first. Holes about 1.5 mm in size are drilled through it. This eliminates the possibility of screws moving and eliminates the appearance of cracks in the profile. As for the last option, it is almost impossible on new windows. But this possibility exists with old plastic or wooden windows.

When the last screw is screwed in, you need to attach the fishing line. It allows you to securely hold the blinds on the sash if it is opened. To do this, holes are made on the sides of the lower glazing bead. They must be located exactly in accordance with the exits of the fishing line to the supporting elements of the structure.

Installing horizontal blinds

You will need a 2.5mm drill bit. The fishing line must be threaded into special plugs that are included in the kit. Then a knot is tied on the fishing line. All you have to do is thread it through the holes in the plug and pull it on top. Make sure that it does not sag or become too tight.

All you have to do is put on the trim and check the result of the work done. The fasteners used for the control chain and flexible lever are installed in the right places.

Installation without drilling

If you don't know how to secure the blinds without drilling into the windows, brackets will do. They are attached directly to the surface of the frame. The carrier of the blinds will snap or screw directly onto them. This system is interesting because you can easily remove the blinds not only for cleaning, but also completely remove them from the window opening. There will be no extra holes left on the visible part of the window and the seal of the windows will not be compromised.

Installing blinds on windows with your own hands

The brackets are attached with screws, but other options can be used:

  • fastening with double-sided tape;
  • hook on the upper part of the profile when installing on opening sashes.

The latter option allows you to make a removable structure, when even the brackets can be removed from the window. You will not need to carry out additional work using a screwdriver and making holes. When using double tape, fastening is carried out in the same way as with screws. But instead of screwing, they use tape. To hold the fishing line, instead of holes, fasteners are used, which are installed on tape at the bottom of the frame.

Features of installation to the wall

A large number of different mounts are sold on the modern market. But the most relevant installation is using a drill. How this mounting option is implemented can be seen in the video. The craftsmen from the videos do not spend much time and use a hammer. But it’s better not to be lazy and make a couple of holes. This will increase the service life of the entire blind structure.

Features of installation on wooden windows

Are you wondering how to attach blinds to wooden windows? This is the most difficult installation option. Blinds are attached to each section of the window. The roller shutters themselves are installed in a similar way. All necessary parts are included with the purchased kit. They need to be taken out and unpacked. Remove the trim from the cornice. Install the blinds to the window using screws and brackets.

If you use screws, the window will remain sealed. This is the most durable and reliable option. But if the blinds are removed from their installation site, visible holes will remain. The second option is not the most reliable. The brackets are attached to the frame itself without using holes. Therefore, when removing the blinds, there will be no defects on its surface.

These days, blinds have gained considerable popularity - they are installed both in private homes and in offices. Most often, the installation of systems is carried out by specialists, but installing blinds on a plastic window with your own hands is also quite possible and does not even require any special skills or tools. These curtains can be installed in several ways, the choice of which depends on the interior and functionality.

Varieties

Today, construction stores offer several types of blinds. Depending on the specific type, the features of fastening curtains change.

You can find several varieties of horizontal blinds on sale. The lamellas in them are installed horizontally, which explains the name of the design. The thickness, width and type of material can be customized. The structure can be attached inside the frame, to the frame itself, to the slope or on top of the window block.

Horizontal blinds are most often installed in institutions

These blinds are installed in offices, production facilities and other places. These designs are universal - if desired, you can find horizontal blinds in almost any color and shade.

Due to their design features, such blinds are most often mounted on top of windows.. The slats in this case are oriented vertically and are made of plastic or fabric. There are varieties on the market that differ in the length of the slats.

Vertical blinds are mainly installed in residential areas

This model is most often installed in private homes, but they are also in demand in offices. Installation of vertical blinds is carried out using self-tapping screws. As an alternative, installation to the ceiling is practiced.

Roller blinds are made of fabric, completely cover the glass, and if desired, they can be raised by rolling them into a roll. Installation is carried out using brackets, screws or adhesive tape.

Roller blinds can be installed without drilling walls and doors - using double-sided tape

The need for drilling varies depending on the type:

  1. Vertical structures are mounted on top of the window or under the ceiling. In both cases you will have to drill the surface.
  2. Horizontal blinds can be attached to the top slope or to the window sashes. Without drilling, such structures can be mounted on the sashes of a window block.
  3. The interframe analogue, as you can easily guess from the name, is designed for installation inside the window itself. This option requires drilling the largest number of holes.

Preparation and measurements

To install blinds you will need the following tools:

  • screwdriver or screwdriver;
  • pencil or marker;
  • roulette.

To ensure that all your efforts are not in vain, it is important to carry out the measurements correctly and accurately - only then will the design work effectively. In addition, it must be located absolutely symmetrically to the glass unit. Blinds attached with adhesive tape are more tolerant of errors - they can be corrected if desired. For analogues with self-tapping screws, additional holes will need to be made, which is unlikely to benefit the beauty of the window; flaws here are unacceptable.

At the first stage of installing blinds, measure the width and height of the window

To correctly position the structure relative to the window and floor level, you will need to measure the following parameters:

  • window opening dimensions;
  • length to the bottom edge of the curtain;
  • distance between fasteners.

For horizontal blinds installed on sashes, you will need to additionally measure the dimensions of each glass. To the results obtained, add 2 cm to the top and bottom edges and 0.5 cm to the sides.

Installation of vertical blinds

Installing vertical blinds is actually not as complicated a process as it might initially seem, and anyone can cope with this task. If the length of the curtain is short, then installation is carried out inside the window opening. Otherwise, the structure is installed under the ceiling or on the wall.

The algorithm of actions here is as follows:

Installation of chain and lamellas. After attaching the cornice, all that remains is to hang the slats, install the runners, and also attach the adjusting chain. An important point: the slats must be hung in the same order in which they are in the box. Otherwise, you can ruin the entire drawing (if there is one).

Installation of horizontal blinds

Attaching horizontal blinds to plastic windows is somewhat more complicated. The main thing is to strictly follow the instructions:

  1. The first step is to secure the upper fasteners. This is done using a screwdriver. First, the holes are prepared, after which the bracket is attached with self-tapping screws.
  2. We hang the cornice. It should be fastened until it clicks.
  3. The holes for the lower fasteners are drilled by hand. When choosing a diameter, you should take into account the dimensions of the thread retainer connecting the lamellas. Most often, horizontal blinds require additional holes on the sides. This helps to insert the clamp connected to the lamella fabric into the corners.

When installing horizontal blinds yourself, you must carefully follow the instructions.

Important: self-installation must be done with the utmost care. Very often the slightest mistake results in the entire structure not functioning correctly..

In the case of roller blinds, there are several mounting options, so before starting you should choose the most convenient one. The first is installation with self-tapping screws, which in essence is no different from the option described above, the second is with a special adhesive tape, which is used instead of self-tapping screws, and in the third, the roller blind is hung on the sash.

To fix roller blinds, use brackets or adhesive tape

Important: do not forget about degreasing the plastic - it will help significantly improve the adhesion of materials.

Inter-frame curtains

Inter-frame curtains are used only for double frames. Installation of blinds of this type is somewhat more complicated than the previous ones, and the process itself will result in an inevitable violation of the integrity of the profile: you will have to drill at least two holes through which the handle and cord to control the system will be cut out.

The curtains themselves are mounted in the inner sash, or more precisely, in its upper part, and the bracket is mounted directly to the upper profile. Installing the structure is in many ways similar to working with horizontal blinds.

Inter-frame curtains are installed in double glazing

Do-it-yourself installation of the system is carried out according to the following algorithm:

  1. The window frame unwinds and the blinds are applied to the inner sash. This is used to check the size matches.
  2. Markings are made for fastening, as well as points for the cord and control handle, after which holes with a diameter of about 5 mm are drilled.
  3. The brackets are inserted into the calipers, the cords and control handles are brought out, with the cord through the lower hole.
  4. Inter-frame blinds are mounted on the sash with special inter-frame brackets.
  5. An adapter is installed on the frame, and a control handle is connected to the flexible terminal.
  6. The control handle and cord lock is installed.
  7. The frame twists back.
The blind control element is led out through the frame

As you can see, the technology of installing blinds on plastic windows without drilling is completely unsuitable here. The principle itself is similar to the installation of all other design options, with the only difference being that you have to disassemble the frame, screw the bracket into the interframe space, and remove the controls through the drilled holes.

In order for blinds to serve for many years, you should follow some operating rules:

  1. When purchasing, you should carefully check the package and all equipment, especially fasteners. They must be of high quality.
  2. You should choose the adjustment mechanism wisely - it should be on the side that is convenient for use.
  3. Make sure that no one opens the windows while the blinds are not yet fully closed.
  4. The rotary handle must not interfere with or touch other fittings.
  5. Don't forget about periodic maintenance.
  6. It is quite possible to install blinds on windows yourself, but it is better to entrust its repair to a professional.
  7. Plastic structures are preferable: they are much easier to care for.
  8. You should not clean the system too often, this will only lead to rapid wear of the protective layer.

Installing the device yourself, as you can see, is not a difficult task at all, be it metal, plastic or wooden blinds on plastic windows. The main thing is to have quality instructions at hand. Thanks to this material, you can hang your blinds as quickly and efficiently as possible.

A sign of modern housing is large windows. Sometimes a lot of light gets in the way and doesn’t allow you to relax. Every owner is thinking about installing blinds on the plastic windows of his home.

Of course, blinds play a big role for comfortable living. Depending on the intensity of sunlight in rooms facing south and east, they can be either completely closed or only partially covered. And the purpose of the room itself also plays a significant role. For example, it is better to choose transparent structures for the dining room, but for the bedroom you need ones that can completely prevent the penetration of sunlight into the room.

But in addition to the above function, these structures also protect against noise that can come from the street.

In addition, blinds are an excellent window decoration. Even stripes look stylish and strict and do not require much maintenance.

Of course, it is best to install them yourself. But every owner is faced with the problem of choosing: which blinds are suitable for his room, what to choose - vertical or horizontal. After all, home comfort and coziness depend on the correctness of the decision made.

In a modern apartment, blinds are a common thing. These original curtain substitutes have long been part of our lives. They give the space a certain aesthetics, elegance, and beauty. Their skillful use allows you to emphasize advantages and hide disadvantages.

Types of blinds and how to choose them?

The modern market offers many types of blinds. They differ from each other in size, shape, direction of the strips themselves, material of manufacture and even color.

In general there are three main types:

  • horizontal;
  • vertical;
  • roll

Horizontal. This type is most suitable for residential premises. Such blinds can be attached both inside the window, on each of its sash, and outside, covering the entire window. Such blinds combine perfectly with curtains and practically do not occupy the window sill space.

Vertical. The difference between this type of blinds is that they can be attached not only to the window itself along its outer part, but even to the ceiling. They create an adequate replacement for tulle curtains. However, this type creates an “office” look, and therefore is not used so often for residential premises. However, for rooms with low ceilings, these blinds are perfect. They will help to visually increase the size of the room, this is due to the fact that the structure completely covers the window.

Rolled. Thanks to a variety of colors, these blinds are perfect for any design solution. They perform the same functions as simple horizontal blinds, but the fabric base itself makes them lighter and more elegant. They are attached simply - with adhesive tape, using self-tapping screws that are screwed to glazing beads or brackets.

Taking measurements yourself

Taking measurements so that the installation of blinds on a plastic window is successful is not particularly difficult, but it has some features that should not be missed.

If the choice is made on vertical blinds, then special attention should be paid to the width of the product. Unfortunately, adding an extra plate will be much more difficult than, say, shortening it. As a result, after adding at least one plate, you will have to redo the entire product.

If you decide to hang horizontal curtains, then there are several options for both fastenings and measurements.

To attach blinds inside a window, you need to know the width and height of the product. Of course, the height can be subsequently adjusted using the built-in mechanism, but it is better to calculate it as accurately as possible so that the excess does not “little” on the window sash as an unnecessary burden. Width is a measurement that requires special attention, because depending on the accuracy of its removal, the window will be completely closed or sunlight and unnecessary noise will break through the left cracks.

If the window opens, then measurements must be made in the following way. Take accurate measurements of the height and width of the glass itself, and then add 2 cm on top and 0.5 cm on the sides. It is necessary to take into account the presence of window fittings, which should not interfere with the operation of the blinds.

Using the same principle, measurements are taken for roller blinds.

But is it necessary to put in so much effort and time? Buy brackets, adhesive tape, glazing beads and much more? It is much easier to come to the company with your own sizes and choose the product you are interested in.

Methods of attaching blinds to plastic windows

The first thing to do when a question arises about how to install blinds on a plastic window is to take the dimensions, it is better to double-check them several times and only then go to the company. By the way, it is better to contact the company where the plastic windows themselves were manufactured.

To order the production of blinds, which will be mounted in such a way that they will be above the general window openings, the window dimensions are required. But also in this case, the design can have exactly the dimensions that the customer desires. True, one should also take into account the fact that in the future they should fit harmoniously into the interior.

Most often, installation instructions are included with the blinds. Before starting work, you should study it thoroughly and you can begin installing the product.

To do this, you need to arm yourself with the following tools:

  • pencil;
  • ruler;

  • screwdriver;
  • brackets;

  • drill and drill bit 6 mm;
  • hammer, scissors, dowels and screwdriver.

There are several ways to install blinds:

  • install using screws;

  • hang on pre-nailed brackets;
  • attach to the holes drilled in the wall.

Important! But we must remember that after screwing the product to the plastic window itself, there will be holes in it, which, if the structure is removed, will spoil the appearance of the window opening.

Installation of horizontal blinds on plastic windows

Every owner thinks about how to install horizontal blinds on plastic windows.

This process requires a certain precision and attention. It consists of several stages:

  • Stepping back 6 cm on both sides, you need to mark the place where the blinds will be attached. At this stage, it is necessary to pay special attention to the accuracy and evenness of the future attachment points. If they are distorted, the blinds will not be able to work fully and will soon fail.
  • Using a screwdriver, mark the holes into which the brackets will later be attached. If the window needs to be opened, then holes should be made in the upper part of each sash, and if the window is solid, then the hole should be made on the outside of the bead.
  • After inserting the blinds into the brackets, snap them into place.
  • Depending on the size of the blinds and convenience, make a hole at the bottom or side of the window sash into which the lock will be attached.
  • Check how the blinds work.
  • If the process of installing blinds raises questions or any difficulties, watch the video instructions for installing blinds on plastic windows.
  • Installing vertical blinds, although a little easier, still requires no less painstaking work. It consists of the following steps:

  • At a distance of at least 10 cm from the edge of the cornice, it is necessary to make markings for the brackets using a pencil.
  • Drill holes and insert dowels into them to secure the brackets.
  • Install the mounting brackets along with decorative slats on the cornice.
  • Having assembled the runners, secure them into the fabric.
  • Attach weights to the bottom of the decorative slats.
  • Connect the weights to each other by sequentially threading a decorative chain through their ears.
  • After inserting the end corners and side panels into the ends of the decorative panel, install it into the mounting brackets.
  • Check the operation of the blinds.
  • If for some reason they do not work or do not work correctly, it is better to watch a video on how to install blinds on plastic windows or seek help from a specialist.
  • But installing roller blinds is the fastest and least expensive. All you need is:

    • double sided tape;
    • duct tape;
    • liquid Nails.

    Thanks to this method of fastening, they can be removed, washed, hung and moved to a new place.

    On a note! For greater strength, the frame must be washed thoroughly and all dirty stains that will interfere with the strong adhesion of the tape to the plastic must be removed.

    Some companies, when selling blinds, only supply the canvas. In this case, all fastening materials must be purchased additionally. When choosing curtains, you should pay attention to the fact that different types of blinds are suitable for different rooms. For example, plastic blinds are most suitable for the bathroom because they are easy to clean, aluminum or fiberglass blinds are most suitable for the kitchen because they do not burn, and fabric-based products will create coziness and comfort in the bedroom.

    There are a few rules to keep in mind during installation:

  • To install horizontal blinds more evenly, you should first make a mark on the bottom of the window where the side should end, since alignment along the longer vertical side will correspondingly align the upper perpendicular one.
  • Some companies offer to use special screws for installation, which can be screwed directly into the window profile;
  • If the fastening plates do not fit tightly to the window profile, special U-shaped pads are used, which, depending on the gap, can be used from one to several pieces.
  • You should also remember that vertical blinds should never be moved by hand if they are deployed so that they completely cover the window. This may damage them. You must first pull the chain and turn the slats perpendicular to you and only then can you move or move the curtains-blinds themselves.

    If you find defects or poor performance of the blinds, they creak or do not turn, be sure to call a specialist from the company where you made the purchase. It’s better not to do anything yourself. Although it seems simple enough.

    Of course, everyone loves cleanliness, but new blinds have a certain coating that wears off very quickly. In this regard, it is best to completely soak the blinds, let them stand, and only then carefully wipe with a soft sponge, rinse and let them dry on their own.

    But vertical curtains must be cleaned extremely carefully with a dust whisk or a vacuum cleaner with an air intake regulator.

    Important! You should always remember that when using products, you should follow the operating instructions.
