Regular flights from Russia to Vietnam land in either Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi. One of alternative ways to get to the beaches of Nha Trang - just through the capital Hanoi.

We recommend this route to those who have not yet visited, and also have not seen the magnificent Vietnamese nature, which can be seen for a long time from the window of a train compartment. Well, if you travel everywhere by plane, then we recommend it all the more.

Most tourists call the best way to travel from Hanoi to Nha Trang is by rail or plane due to safety and comfort. In third place in popularity is the bus.

By plane

Considering that the distance between Hanoi and Nha Trang is 1284 km, the fastest and most convenient way to Nha Trang is by air, which takes 1:45 hours. You can buy an air ticket in advance, back in Russia, and plan your trip so that you have a transfer in Hanoi didn't take much time. Or you can spend a couple of days in this city, exploring its surroundings and attractions (which many experienced tourists highly recommend doing), and only then fly to Nha Trang.

There are several direct flights from Noi Bai Airport, located half an hour from Hanoi city center to international airport Nha Trang, located in the town of Cam Ranh. The cost will be acceptable - about 1-2 million dong ($44-80). The following airlines offer such flights:

  • Vietnam Airlines
  • Jetstar Pacific Airlines
  • VietJetAir

By the way, it is worth considering that during Vietnamese holidays, especially the Chinese New Year and the May holidays, air ticket prices can jump up sharply, so it is better to book them in advance here:

Usually taxi drivers ask for 300-500 thousand dong ($13-22) for a trip. Don’t be afraid if drivers in unmarked taxi cars offer their services - they are often cheaper.

You can also pre-book a Cam Ranh-Nha Trang transfer to your hotel. You are guaranteed to be met with a sign at the airport and taken to the hotel entrance. The transfer is provided by a fairly well-known international company, KiWi Taxi.

You can book a hotel in Nha Trang in advance with good discounts here:

The cheapest way to get to the resort is to take the red airport bus, which takes passengers to the old airport, and from there you can take a taxi or walk to most hotels. The cost of a bus ticket is $3.5. The bus schedule can be found at Cam Ranh Airport.

By bus (slipbus)

This is the most cheap way get from Hanoi to Nha Trang. It is also the longest - 31-33 hours. But great option for those tourists who are not in a hurry and don’t mind admiring other cities in Vietnam.

Don’t be fooled by the “Hanoi-Nha Trang” entry on your ticket. You will still have to change trains to and from Hue at least twice. If you have time, stop for a couple of days and explore their sights. You definitely won't regret it.

The price for a bus ticket from Hanoi to Nha Trang is $30-45 one way. Such buses are called sleepbuses (or sleeperbuses). You can lie down or sit reclining in them.

For us, a trip on a Vietnamese slipbus is tolerable no further than . Anything longer (like the one we rode a few times) turns into a chore, especially for those taller than 170cm.

The most popular carrier companies providing bus services from Hanoi to Nha Trang:

  • The Sinh Tourist
  • Hanh Cafe
  • Phuong Trang

To catch the bus, you need to be on site (that is, near the company office - where the slipbuses depart from) at least 15 minutes before departure.

By train

Traveling by train is suitable for tourists who are also not in a big hurry to arrive at their destination, but also want to constantly have access to a toilet during the trip and would not mind resting on a full bed.

Travel time by rail is from 27 to 30 hours - Vietnamese trains are not very punctual. The Hanoi-Nha Trang train departs three times a day. There are four accommodation classes to choose from:

  • Hard seat - wooden hard benches designed for two people;
  • Soft seat - soft comfortable seating chairs;
  • Hard sleep - a compartment with three shelves;
  • Soft sleep is a compartment with two shelves.

There are 4 classes of trains - SE2, SE4, SE6 and SE8. The cost of tickets varies depending on the level of comfort - from $37 to $60. Children under 2 travel free of charge. For children under 9 years old, tickets are sold at a 50% discount. You can buy train tickets in advance on this website.

  • Railway station in Hanoi - Hanoi Railway Station (120 Le Duan)
  • Railway station in Nha Trang - Nha Trang Railway Station (17 Thái Nguyên)

Railway station in Hanoi

We used Vietnamese railways twice. we really enjoyed it when we drove from to Nha Trang. But from Nha Trang to Hanoi was already a test for us. The SE6 class resembled the comfort level of the most neglected Moscow-Bishkek train. But don't forget that you are on a journey, and take every experience calmly and with humor.

You can do it in advance. Also, any decent 4-5 star hotel can organize a meeting upon request.

2. Minibus.

Minibuses go to the tourist center of Nha Trang. Tickets cost $3. From the stop you can walk to the hotel or take a taxi or motorcycle taxi.

By bus

You can get to Nha Trang by bus from many cities and resorts in Vietnam. Mostly they come from Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) or Mui Ne. In the first case, travel costs 10-11 dollars, and the travel time is about 10 hours (450 km). In the second case – 6-7 dollars and about 5 hours (250 km). You can also come from central Vietnam - Hoi An (8.5 hours, about $20) or Da Nang (9.5 hours). On holidays and weekends, prices can double or more. For example, the author of the article traveled to Nha Trang from Mui Ne for $15 during the Vietnamese New Year - Tet. We highly recommend not even considering the option from Hanoi - it will take more than a day to travel, which is very tiring. And you won’t save too much compared to flying.

General information on buses from any resort to Nha Trang: use only tourist (private) ones, tickets for which can be bought at any tour desk on the street. You don’t need to look for them and they are everywhere, you can even buy them at the hotel (they will be a little more expensive). And forget about government buses that depart from bus stations. All of them are located away from tourist places(and in Mui Ne it is generally 20 km away, in the city of Phan Thiet) and arrive in Nha Trang also at the bus station, from which you will have to go to the tourist area, where most of the hotels are located. You will lose a lot of time, plus money on a motorcycle taxi or taxi to the bus station and from it to the hotel.

Because of this, the trip may not only take longer, but also be more expensive. But you don’t have to worry about travel agencies - just order from what is located under the windows of your hotel and in right time go outside. The carrier will do the rest for you - if necessary, the minivan will take you free of charge to a large bus, which will then arrive at tourist area Nha Trang. That's all. And no additional taxis or motorcycle taxis. The author of the article tried both options - state buses and private ones - and settled on the latter as the most optimal.

There are different types of buses: some have seats, some have recumbent seats (slipperbus). The first option can be used when traveling from Mui Ne, and of all other resorts, slippers are better. They cost only a few dollars more, but you'll ride comfortably in a comfortable position.

By train

You can get to Nha Trang by train. The city has a station where railway transport arrives. The downside is that tickets must be purchased in advance, plus, as in the case of state buses, you will have to get to/from the station to the tourist area with hotels. You can view the schedule and purchase tickets online (albeit quite expensive) on the websites www.vietnamtrains.com and www.vietnamrailways.net. Ideally, it is better to buy at the ticket office at the station, since prices at travel agencies are also inflated.

I continue my blog about our adventures in Vietnam. Today I’ll tell you how we got from Nha Trang to Phu Quoc, and this story will probably be useful for everyone who is looking for options on how to get to the island, and just wants to know what it’s like to travel around Vietnam by bike, bus, plane, ferry and even train.

How to get from Nha Trang to Phu Quoc

We came to Vietnam on a package tour: we bought last-minute tours in December departing from Khabarovsk. At first I didn’t like Nha Trang, but after a couple of days everything fell into place, in the end we spent an excellent two paid weeks, and then went to Phu Quoc via Ho Chi Minh City. When the two weeks of the tour were coming to an end, we began to think about how to get to Phu Quoc from Nha Trang and there were several options:

  • by plane with a transfer in Ho Chi Minh City
  • by bus to Ho Chi Minh City, and then by plane to Phu Quoc
  • by train to Ho Chi Minh City, and then by plane too
  • by bus to Ho Chi Minh City, then by bus to Ha Tien and by ferry to Phu Quoc

We chose best option: take a bus to Ho Chi Minh City, spend ten days there, meet New Year, go to museums, see friends, and then go to Phu Quoc by plane. If you want to fly both parts of the route by plane, then take care in advance - we no longer had time to buy cheap tickets, and after weighing all the pros and cons, we went by bus.

Every first tourist agency in Nha Trang will offer you a bus ticket and transfer to the “bus station” directly from the hotel. The ticket will cost 10 - 12 dollars. But you can also buy a ticket yourself: it will cost a little cheaper - 170,000/ 180,000 dong (7 - 8 dollars). But the bus to Ho Chi Minh City leaves early in the morning (6.00, 7.00, 8.00, 9.00) and it might be better to choose a ticket from an agency that includes a transfer. We bought the ticket ourselves and got there early in the morning. Uber (in Nha Trang it is a third cheaper than a taxi, by the way) to the bus.

Situated relatively comfortably on the seat-beds

The slipbuses look like an ordinary bus on the outside, but inside there are bunk beds in 3 rows. With my build and height of 180, I managed to sleep quite comfortably on this chair. It’s good that I lost 10 kg in Thailand

Slip bass in Vietnam: this is what the interior looks like with signature blue lighting

The passages are quite narrow, but you can squeeze through sideways. We both noted that it was most comfortable to sleep on the top bunk so that no one would snoop their butts in front of our faces. The chair has handles and seat belts on both sides, so you won’t easily fall out of it. For particularly large people there is a triple bed in the tail.

Narrow passages in Vietnamese slipping basses

There are additional beds in the second aisle

There is also a toilet at the rear of the bass slip. Unlike Thai intercity buses, in the toilets of which you need to bend in half, in Vietnamese the cabin is spacious and you can stand up to your full height.

All passengers must take off their shoes before entering and place their shoes in a specially designed bag.

Everyone is given a free bottle of water, but nothing is provided to eat, so it’s better to take something with you.

Warm clothes - a sweatshirt, trousers and socks - will also be useful. You need to check in your luggage, taking only the most valuable things with you into the cabin, since there is nowhere to put your bags except at your feet. I only took a small backpack with warm clothes and a bag with laptops into the cabin.

There is also on the bus free wifi Internet.
