Today we will look at the types of gas heaters from the Italian manufacturer Ferroli. Thus, there are two types of Ferroli boilers: wall-mounted and floor-mounted. Units that are suspended are also divided into two groups - conventional and condensing. The latter are characterized by high efficiency.

The second aspect is the type of combustion chamber and its configuration. The combustion chamber can be open or sealed. Open combustion chambers, just like a regular stove burner, burn out the air from the room (there is no fire without oxygen). Sealed chambers draw in air from the street through a special chimney called.

A heat exchanger (one or two) is installed in the combustion chamber. One heat exchanger (bithermic) is a pipe within a pipe into which pipes are embedded for separate smoke removal.   • single stage burner;
  • heat exchanger made of cast iron;
  • gas valve HoneyWell or Sit;
  • connectors for additional equipment (pump, thermostat).

Boilers priced from 1 thousand euros, in addition to the standard set, are equipped with a display, connectors for connecting a three-way valve, a boiler pump, outdoor temperature sensors, and boiler sensors. Thanks to this set of options, the heater can independently control the degree of heating of the coolant according to weather conditions. The equipment for each model is indicated in the operating instructions for the Ferroli boiler.

Units over 2 thousand Euro, for example Pegasus-DK, have a built-in 130-liter boiler and a 12-liter expansion tank, two pumps, and a magnesium anode installed in the boiler. A magnesium anode is needed to prevent the boiler tank from rusting. This is a consumable material; the anode must be changed periodically (as it breaks down). Heaters for 3 thousand Euros (Pegasus 2S and PegasusF3 N2S) have the same equipment as the cheapest models, with the exception of the burner - in expensive units it is two-stage. This allows you to expand the range of boiler power adjustment.

If any problems arise during the operation of the Ferroli gas boiler, a fault code is displayed on the liquid crystal display.

The peculiarity of boilers with a removable inflatable heating pad is that they can operate on both gas and diesel fuel, it depends on the type of burner:

  • for gas – Sun M;
  • for diesel - Sun G.

In the Atlas heater, instead of an external inflatable burner, you can connect an internal one or two-stage gas burner. In a rich configuration, for example, Atlas DK, there is a built-in 10-liter expansion tank and a 100- or 130-liter boiler, two pumps, and a liquid crystal display. The external inflatable burner is not included and is supplied separately.

Ferroli condensing boilers

All condensing boilers have a closed combustion chamber.

If you look through the operating instructions for the Ferroli gas boiler, you will see the following differences among the condensing units:

  • number of heat exchangers – one or two;
  • heat exchanger material – stainless steel or aluminum;
  • burner material – ceramics or steel;
  • presence of a boiler;
  • presence of an air separator.

A comparison of the chemical composition clearly shows: although formally both steels belong to the low-carbon class, the strength of AISI 310S steel is 40% higher than that of AISI 304 steel. The data on heat resistance becomes even more expressive: if AISI 310S can withstand temperatures up to 1000 ° C for a long time, then AISI 304 short-term – up to 900°C, and long-term – up to 600°C.

There are similar questions regarding the selected heat exchanger material: Ferroli boilers use aluminum alloy, while similar products from Vissmann use cast iron. Although this circumstance slightly increases the mass of the boiler, the durability of cast iron heat exchangers is almost 1.5 times greater than the durability of aluminum ones. Some models use heat exchangers made of copper, but their strength is inferior to cast iron. This solution may cause malfunctions of Ferroli gas boilers.

Burner type


Devices from the Ferroli brand use a conventional atmospheric burner, the parts of which are characterized by sudden temperature changes during operation. This provokes thermal deformation, accompanied by a change in size with a subsequent risk of microcracks. Fan burners implemented in the designs of German gas boilers operate with constant water cooling, which:

  • increases burner service life;
  • reduces the emission of harmful gases into the atmosphere to European established environmental standards.

Unit capabilities


The instructions for Ferroli gas double-circuit boilers describe some features of the startup process, as well as the operation of control systems. Here are the operating instructions.

  1. To turn it on, you need to open the gas valve, then turn on the power supply.
  2. Place the knobs that regulate the temperature of heating and hot water in the desired position. After this, the boiler will automatically turn on when the room temperature drops or when hot water is needed.
  3. If you turn both knobs to minimum, the boiler will not work, but it still consumes power. This is due to the “anti-freeze” function, which turns on the heating of water in the heating system in the event of a strong drop in ambient temperature. The signal lights do not light up.
  4. By adjusting the knobs, you can set summer or winter modes.
  5. There are three modes: Summer (only water heating for hot water supply), Winter (heating and hot water supply), and also a mode in which the hot water supply is turned off and only heating works.

The ferroli boiler has a modern design. Produced using modern technologies, it differs from others in workmanship and reliability. This is a high-efficiency thermal gas generator, manufactured for heating, and runs on both natural and oil gas. Produces hot water.

The ferroli boiler must be regularly maintained. At least once a year. To clean the boiler, use a damp soft cloth and soapy water. Detergents and solvents are not recommended.

Installation

To eliminate it, you need to exclude the cause of the appearance of symbols on the screen and restart with the “Reset” key. The reboot will not occur immediately, but after 30 seconds after pressing the button;
  • Non-critical - "F". Minor problems that require user intervention and system adjustment;
  • Pauses - "D". These symbols indicate the intervals between certain modes.

A01 (In Domina models, the red indicator flashes). The burner does not work. No ignition.
  • If gas does not flow, open the valve. Contact utility companies;

A02 (The green indicator lights up when trying to ignite. In other cases, it blinks). The system reports the presence of a flame when it is actually absent.
  • Checking the wiring of the electrode and electronic unit. Moving the electrode to a distance of 3 mm from the burner;
  • Rebooting equipment, adjusting ignition power.
A3 (red light blinks). Overheat protection has tripped. Temperature from 105 degrees. The equipment turns off. An error appears if the temperature does not return to normal within 10-50 seconds. Restart the boiler and let it cool down. If after this the device does not turn on, then you need to:
  • Carry out diagnostics of the overheat sensor;
  • Check fluid circulation in the system;
  • Release excess air;
  • Unscrew the inlet valves completely;
  • Make sure there is normal power supply. For frequent jumps, it is recommended to install a stabilizer;
  • Diagnose the operation of the pump; it is necessary to wash the parts. Remove the pump plug and rotate the rotor shaft to prevent jamming;
  • Replace the main module.
A06 Unstable flame. In 10 minutes the fire went out 6 times.
  • Measuring pressure in the gas line. Norm - 20 Bar;

A09 Faulty gas supply valve. Repair or replacement.

Connecting a working coolant temperature sensor.

Measure the resistance of the semiconductor sensor with a multimeter. In operating condition, it will show 10 kOhm at 25°C. Pull the sensor connectors to the control board.

Do the same steps with the hot water supply (DHW) temperature sensor.

A51 The chimney and air duct are clogged. Check for traction. Place a lit match near the control window. If there is draft, the flame will deviate to the side. If it burns smoothly, you need to clean the chimney.
F04 (green indicator flashes). The smoke exhaust controller has tripped.

How to turn on the boiler? Perform a restart. Clean the smoke exhaust shaft.

Cleaning contacts or replacing the sensor.

Reconfiguring the electronic module.

F05 The fan is not connected correctly (for Ferroli Domiproject DF). Inspect the fan wiring, measure the voltage. The norm is 220V. Tightening contacts.
F08 The heat exchanger temperature exceeds 99 degrees. In this case, the device functions. As soon as the temperature returns to 90 degrees, the code will disappear.
F10/F14 The coolant thermistor wiring is shorted or broken. Repair wiring or replace a faulty element.
F11 The DHW thermistor is shorted and the contacts are broken. The burner does not light in DHW mode.
F20 Flame problems (for Domiproject DF). Diagnostics carried out:
  • smoke exhaust and ignition unit;
  • fan;
  • gas valve.
F34 The voltage is not normal (less than 180V). Wait until the network is restored, or use a stabilizer.
F35 There is a mismatch between the current of the control board and the network. Please note the correct setting when replacing the board (50-60Hz).
F37 (yellow light blinks). The pressure in the system has decreased. Make sure the boiler is not leaking. Check the connections for tightness. Replace the heating relay.
F39 The outdoor thermometer is short-circuited. Thermistor malfunction. Tighten the contacts, insulate the damaged wiring. Install a new thermometer.
F40 The pressure in the system exceeds the norm.

Remove the drain valve filter and clean it from clogging. If the valve is faulty, the equipment cannot be operated. Replacement is in progress.

Make sure the expansion tank is performing its function.

F42 The overheat and temperature sensors display different data. Measure the resistance of the DHW thermistor. Normally, the reading should be 10 kOhm. Insert a new element.
F43 The heat exchanger safety system has activated. Diagnostics of the circulation pump. Removing excess air from the system.
F50 Problems with gas fittings.
  • Valve coil ringing. A working part shows 24 ohms;
  • Electronic board repair.
fh The circulation pump is removing air. After three minutes the code will disappear.

There are others too problems that are not indicated by codes and not described in the instructions:

  • Small flame in the burner. Adjusting the pressure on the burner, it is necessary to clean the nozzles from dust and dirt;
  • The burner starts randomly. The injector needs cleaning, the broken thermocouple is being replaced. The fuel valve coil is checked for breaks;
  • Hot water does not heat up. Reduced pressure in the line. It is necessary to adjust the power and clean the heat exchanger from scale;
  • The flame flares up sharply. Cleaning the combustion chamber and burner. Checking traction.

Most errors block the operation of the boiler. Even if after a restart it functions again, you should not let the problem take its course. You need to find out the reasons for its occurrence and contact a specialist or solve the problem yourself. Regular maintenance prevents problems and prevents contamination of equipment parts.
