Interior doors in the interior of an apartment solve two important problems at once. Firstly, beautiful interior designs often become wonderful decorative details. Secondly, they act as a functional element: they divide the space into zones and provide sound insulation. The modern market offers a huge number of interior doors of different colors, modifications, styles, strength, and materials. In this article we will tell you how to choose the right interior doors for your apartment and not make a mistake.

Types of interior structures in the interior of an apartment

Paneled doors

Paneled interior doors in the interior of an apartment look very stylish. The paneled structure is a wooden frame with vertical and horizontal guides, the space between which is filled with panels - wooden, glass inserts (these elements are also made of MDF and other materials). Panels are the main distinguishing feature of such structures.

Interior panel doors have a number of advantages:

  • wear resistance;
  • resistance to deformation;
  • a good solution for any interior, both apartment and house.

Among shortcomings can be distinguished:

  • massive heavy frame;
  • the price is above average (this is due to the fact that natural materials are used in production).

Tsar doors

When making a drawer door, two vertical beams are used, and the space between them is filled with identical transverse elements (drawbars). These elements form the basis of door structures.

Today, drawer interior doors in apartment interiors are a fairly common solution. Such designs are presented in different versions. Drawer drawers are made from various types of wood, metal or glass.

Interior frame door designs for the interior of an apartment or house are a worthy choice because they:

  • have increased wear resistance;
  • look presentable;
  • They are characterized by durability and long service life.

Concerning shortcomings, here you can note the heavy weight (if these are wooden or glass doors). Because of this, the installation process may become more complicated, but this disadvantage does not affect the quality of operation.

Panel doors

Many owners of apartments or houses in Moscow, when arranging their interiors, choose interior panel structures: solid or carved.

Solid panel doors consist of a wooden frame and external MDF sheets. The cavity formed inside is filled with filler made of MDF or pressed cardboard. To make panel interior doors look beautiful in the interior of an apartment, their surface is laminated, veneered or covered with PVC.

Carved interior doors are a more modified type of panel structures. Their distinctive feature is the presence of a glass or plastic insert in a solid MDF board. To make a carved insert, an opening is made in the door leaf for a specific figure. Then it is filled with a panel and secured with a baguette.

Advantages panel interior structures:

  • low cost (economy segment);
  • presentable appearance - panel interior doors in the interior of an apartment always look great and fit into any style;
  • due to the use of a wooden frame and cardboard filler, the structure weighs little;
  • Despite the low price, panel doors are of high quality and functional.

Flaw they have one: the need for special care. Any wooden or glass door needs to be carefully looked after, using special polishing agents.

Coordination of work

Molded doors

They have a striking distinctive feature, since they are a solid monolithic canvas made of one material. Classic molded doors are made of solid wood, while modern ones are made of plastic or glass.

Molded interior doors are identical from top to bottom. If the structure is visually divided into 5 or more parts, then they will all be the same.

Advantages molded interior structures in the interior of an apartment are:

  • unusual and attractive design;
  • ease of care (to maintain their appearance in excellent condition, it is enough to use special detergents and polishes);
  • strength (plastic or glass doors are made of several layers of material alternating with film);
  • Any design can be applied to the surface of such structures.

Flaws:

  • complex installation (installation must be performed by a professional);
  • heavy weight, since the door uses solid material (several layers of glass - triplex - or natural wood).

Glass doors

For their manufacture, glass from triplex or duplex is used. Interior doors of this type fit perfectly into any interior. You can give preference to transparent, matte, colored (plain or patterned) doors. At the same time, their design is very diverse.

Due to the fact that glass doors let in a lot of light, they are often installed in catering establishments or office premises.

Glass interior doors have a number of advantages:

  • doors are available in different models and colors, which allows you to choose the option that best suits the interior of your room;
  • glass doors are very durable, since they are manufactured using tempered glass or triplex technology;
  • Glass doors allow light to pass through perfectly.

Flaw glass structures - fragility. A strong impact may damage the door. But if it is made using the latest technologies, it will not crumble even from severe damage - only cracks or dents form on the canvas.

Dimensions and shape of interior structures in the interior of the apartment

Even if you want to repair or replace door panels in an apartment where the size of all openings is standard, it is still worth making accurate measurements in advance. After all, making a door to order not only requires additional costs, but also somewhat delays the repair process.

As a rule, the doorway has a standard width of 60, 70, 80 and 90 cm. It all depends on the room. As for height, there are no standard sizes. Until recently, there were almost no ready-made structures over 2 meters high for sale. However, today door leaves with a height of 2.1 or 2.2 meters are quite common.

Designers advise installing door structures with a non-standard height of more than 2 meters if you want to visually raise the ceiling in the room. But remember that the standard opening must first be expanded. Not every owner likes this prospect, because it involves additional labor costs and financial investments. You decide what to do: select a design to match an existing building or customize the doorway to fit your favorite model.

Most people prefer standard models. The reason is simple: traditional interior doors are cheaper than custom-made doors. In addition, immediately after purchase, they can be installed in your apartment or house, again, unlike individual structures - their production takes time. However, custom-made interior doors in the interior of an apartment always look great and harmoniously suit your room style. This is their absolute advantage.

Types of opening interior structures in the interior of an apartment

Interior doors can be opened in different ways. Everything is determined by the design and method of fastening. Interior doors can be hinged, sliding, folding or swinging. They are attached in their own way and have varying degrees of sound insulation. Let's look at each type of interior design in more detail.

  1. Swing doors.
  2. Familiar classic doors. Their canvas is secured in the doorway with hinges on one side, and a handle with a lock is installed on the other. The door frame of the swing model has a threshold for sound insulation.

    To close the structure, it is snapped into place. If greater tightness is needed, then a silicone seal is laid around the entire perimeter of the canvas.

    Despite the fact that the door market today is crowded and there are an abundance of completely different options for every taste and budget, Russians often prefer single-leaf and double-leaf swing interior models. They are simple and traditional in design and easy to open. Another added benefit is ease of installation.

    Thanks to their affordable price, such models are very popular among our compatriots. They are chosen for the interior of both standard apartments and private houses based on individual projects.

    The most common type of door models in apartments are single-leaf hinged structures, which are suitable, perhaps, for any interior. But double doors are also in great demand today. A wide doorway has a number of advantages. It gives a feeling of spaciousness; thanks to it, corridors and other auxiliary rooms are better illuminated. In addition, large large furniture can be carried through the wide doors, which is very convenient.

    However, double-leaf interior doors in the interior of an apartment also have disadvantages. The area of the room should be quite large so that a person can open two doors at once without any problems. Furniture cannot be placed next to the door structure, which causes inconvenience for owners of small apartments.

  3. Sliding doors.
  4. Sliding interior doors in the interior of an apartment are a good solution. If the apartment is compact, then thanks to them you can save precious centimeters of space.

    Sliding interior doors are installed along the wall. The structure moves along it using wheels. Sliding doors are often used to zone a studio apartment or office. Door models of this type are very common today when arranging modern interiors.

  5. Folding doors.
  6. Folding door structures are an accordion of several identical panels on hinges or hinges. When the door is opened, the leaves rotate on hinges and fold. Such designs can often be found in clinics, outpatient facilities, and rarely in apartments. Folding doors are also often installed in dachas and cottages. To make the sliding structure easy to open, glass or plywood inserts are added to the canvas during manufacturing to reduce weight.

  7. Swinging doors.
  8. Very often, swinging interior doors are installed in public spaces. They are either opened inward or pushed outward. In both cases they open easily.

    As a rule, swing doors are installed in hospitals, waiting rooms at airports, and train stations. They are also very popular in country style cafes and pubs.

Sliding interior doors in the interior of an apartment

Let's take a closer look at sliding interior structures. In Asian countries they have been common for a very long time, but for Europe this is a relatively new phenomenon, which, nevertheless, due to its functionality, has become widespread.

There are several types of interior sliding models:

  • Sliding. Such doors move on wheels along a guide fixed to the wall. The structure moves along the wall, and the passage remains open (another option is to build the guide into the wall so that the canvas goes into it).

  • Coupe. The design resembles a wardrobe, which saves space, since the panels, when opened, overlap each other.

  • Foldable. The “accordion” of the folding door takes up minimal space. As a rule, it is used to separate the bedroom from the living room or dressing room. The canvas includes narrow strips connected by loops. They move on wheels along a guide. In the open position the strips are folded, in the closed position they are straightened.

An important point: when planning to install sliding interior doors, remember that they all provide a low level of sound insulation. If this point is important to you, for example, you need to separate the children's room from the bedroom, then it is better to give preference to traditional swing doors. In addition, the cost of sliding structures is higher than standard ones.

For the manufacture of sliding models, different materials are used: wood with glass ceilings, fiberboard, chipboard, plastic, and so on. Their standard size is as follows: height 2 m 5 cm, width from 0.6 to 1 m, thickness from 4 cm.

Very often, sliding interior doors are made of glass, with or without frames. In the latter case, the structure is fixed on the rollers of only the guide upper profile. Typically tempered glass is used here. Of course, it weighs a lot, especially if its thickness is more than 8 mm.

Despite their apparent fragility, the models are in great demand.

Sliding structures must have reliable fittings.

What material are modern interior doors made of?

Various materials are used today for the manufacture of interior structures.

  1. PVC. It is very easy to care for such models. In addition, they have a low price. The main advantage of such structures is moisture resistance. But, alas, the plastic quickly loses its presentable appearance, the color becomes more cloudy, which, of course, spoils the overall impression. That is why plastic interior doors are almost never used in apartment interiors. They are often installed in office premises and warehouses.
  2. Fiberboard. Fiberboards are almost harmless to health. During production, they are given an attractive appearance using dyes, which allows consumers to choose the appropriate option for an apartment or house. Doors are usually made from wood fiber in standard shapes.

    The strength of fiberboard is, of course, lower than that of wood. But doors made of this material are cheaper than wooden ones.

  3. MDF. Various modifications of designs are made from it, with and without carved decorations. The surface of MDF is often laminated and covered with natural or artificial veneer. Today, interior doors made from MFD are the best option for apartment interiors in terms of price and quality ratio. Such doors are moisture resistant, do not deform and have a long service life.
  4. Solid wood. It is considered a traditional material for making structures. Interior doors made of solid wood are highly durable and come in different design options. Among the disadvantages is low moisture resistance, and therefore, if you install solid wood interior doors in a room with high humidity, they additionally need to be coated with moisture-resistant varnish.

    Doors made from budget types of wood (for example, pine) are topped with veneer of more expensive species. They do this to increase durability and improve design.

  5. Glass. Interior doors made of glass, often with a pattern, made using the latest technologies, are very common in modern apartment interiors.

    Glass is moisture resistant, which allows it to be used in bathrooms. There are a lot of design options: the market offers interior doors with mirrored, matte surfaces, patterns and stained glass.

If you want to create a high-tech interior, try to use simple geometric elements, matte and chrome surfaces. The furnishings in this design should be complemented by discreet interior doors with a minimalist finish. Designs for such an interior can be made using plastic or aluminum.

Such a door makes the decoration of the apartment more modern. Also, glass or metal interior structures are perfect for high-tech design.

The techno style is also popular today, in the interior of which strict and laconic interior doors are appropriate, for example, solid doors with straight lines without any decorative elements. An excellent solution for lovers of minimalism and rigor.

The color of interior structures in the interior of an apartment

The choice of color scheme for interior structures should be approached very responsibly, since they are installed not for a couple of years, but for a long period (subject to proper use). When choosing a color, decide on your wishes - do you want the doors to be a bright accent and stand out against the general background, or do you prefer it when they blend in with other decorations?

In the interior of apartments and houses you can often see that interior doors match the color of the floor. Usually these are all kinds of shades of natural wood, perfectly combined with different style solutions. Remember that a 100% color match is not necessary. It is considered normal if the floor is 2-3 shades darker or lighter than the door.

In rooms designed in a monochrome color scheme, door structures are installed, the color of which matches the shade of the walls. The floor can be the same or a contrasting color. Let's say white doors in combination with a dark floor look very harmonious. This is a good basis for an interior in a modern or Scandinavian style.

Today, non-standard materials are often used in interiors, for example, mirror, plastic, metal, glass. The door color can be any.

In a monochrome interior, gray doors in combination with gray walls of the same shade, lighter ceilings and dark floors visually lengthen the room. In addition, furniture, textiles and various decorative elements look great against such a background.

Of course, the interior of an apartment or house where interior doors made of natural wood or veneer are installed looks presentable and expensive. Interior doors made of bleached oak are an expensive purchase. But if you want to save money, you can easily choose doors made of veneered oak plates or imitation material.

In recent years, furniture made from wenge wood (African rosewood) has become widespread among designers. The cost of this material is quite high, but it is completely justified. Wenge furniture looks excellent, and the material itself has an interesting texture and comes in many different shades.

Wenge interior doors fit perfectly into the interior of a house or apartment. However, as already stated, this material is expensive and difficult to find. You have an alternative: purchase doors made from materials that imitate wenge. In appearance, they are in no way inferior to the original, and cost much less.

Light shades are well suited for interiors in a country style, as well as classical and antique styles: white, beige, sand, pastel. Light interior doors in the interior of an apartment (photo below) visually expand the space if they match the color of the adjacent wall.

Very often the color of door structures is matched to the color of the furniture. Designers often use this technique when creating a modern interior, wanting to make an accent. Let's say the interior of a room designed in white colors can be complemented with a red sofa and a red door. The room will sparkle in a completely new way, become more lively and interesting.

Interior doors in the dining room can be matched to the color of the kitchen unit. Thus, the interior of a room in the Provence style with classical elements will be well complemented by a purple door and furniture in light lavender tones.

It is more difficult to use black interior doors in the interior of an apartment, but it is still possible. They are great for Baroque or Art Deco styles. Dark walls and doors are an excellent backdrop for light furniture and decorative items, emphasizing the luxury and individuality of the design.

Are white interior doors appropriate in the interior of an apartment?

White interior doors in the interior of an apartment always look simple and at the same time elegant. This is a universal and stylish solution.

Don't worry that white interior doors for an apartment are an outdated option. Today on the market there are a lot of original and very beautiful options for white interior designs.

Don't be afraid that there will be stains on the white doors. Simply install high-gloss models that are practical and easy to clean.

Let's consider what advantages white interior doors have in the interior of an apartment.

White is a clear favorite of many famous designers. Despite the fact that during the first ten years of the 21st century, doors in dark tones, light beige and natural wood colors predominated in interiors, fashion trends of past years inevitably return. White is back at the peak of popularity. The widest range of white interior designs presented today can please even the most demanding buyer.

  • White is a universal color that suits any style.

  • White doors are a universal solution for any room. This is an excellent addition to the interior of living rooms, bathrooms, kitchens, children's rooms, and corridors. White entrance doors also look very presentable.

When installing entrance structures, be sure to take care of your own safety. Today on the market there is a wide range of armored, reinforced, steel models with reliable latches and locks.

  • White doors are a complement to any interior. If the design is light and airy, with glazing, it will fit well into a carefully furnished room where, for example, wenge color predominates. A dense panel structure is suitable for a Scandinavian-style bedroom, and a glazed folding door will add chic to a classic living room.

  • White doors are a great way to visually expand a space. A glazed structure with a vertical insert will visually make the ceiling higher. Using a door with horizontal stripes, you can widen a narrow opening. The all-white model is suitable for small spaces.

How to choose interior doors for a specific interior

Today everyone has the opportunity to find and choose door leaves and fittings in any design and in any price category. If you want to keep the interior of your apartment in a style, for example, loft or hi-tech, then you can easily choose suitable doors.

For the interior of eco-style apartments, interior doors made from natural materials are selected, for example:

  • wood;
  • vines;
  • plywood;
  • glass

Wooden doors for eco-interiors are not painted, but rather emphasize the existing natural beauty. The surface is not treated, leaving a little rough.

In an eco-style apartment, transparent glass doors with sandblasted plant motifs are often installed. Glass is also a natural, environmentally friendly material, absolutely practical and safe. It adds a touch of airiness to the interior and visually increases the area of the room.

For any professional designer, doors are an important part of the interior design concept. They can visually increase the height of a room, create the desired atmosphere, emphasize a decorative technique, and at the same time remain somewhat invisible.

With photographs from the portfolio of the Fundament Group of Companies (Moscow), we will illustrate how various interior doors affect the appearance of the interior: white, gray, black, sliding and hinged. Our designers make each project unique, with a twist, beautiful and at the same time practical for its owners.

Sliding white doors in the interior

White glass doors selected by a professional designer will help you make your interior more original. Translucent partitions increase the illumination of rooms and visually increase their volume.

Sliding doors will help make the interior of an apartment or house more ergonomic. You spend less time and effort opening or closing it, it looks more aesthetically pleasing in any condition, and also saves a couple of square meters of space, which in terms of all the doors in the apartment can reach up to 10-20 square meters. And this, you see, is a lot. Also, partitions of this type are often used in the design of dressing rooms, storage areas, and cabinets of various formats, including built-ins.

Entrance to the kitchen and living room

In the photo: Corridor design with beautiful interior doors

In this apartment renovation project, our designers combine several types of doors for different zones; the decoration uses moldings, stucco molding and porcelain tiles with a marble pattern. Please note that the ceiling design was designed specifically for the unusual shape of the corridor, which is explained by the convenient zoning of public and private areas in the apartment.

Hallway filled with air and light

In the photo: Sliding glass white doors in a Scandinavian-style apartment

Sliding doors, made to order in a workshop according to a designer’s project, are especially popular in the interior of the kitchen, loggia, hallway and bathroom, in the corridor - where the lack of light and space can be especially acute. If you want to have a beautiful and fashionable white interior, you cannot do without the right interior doors.

Large sliding doors from floor to ceiling

In the photo: Design of an open kitchen-living room with glass doors

If we look at the same interior in a modern style with Scandinavian elements from the living room, we immediately note that large glass partitions here are one of the most important motifs in the design. The rectangular decorative layout on the door leaves is in harmony with the cubic shapes of the kitchen set.

A sip of sunshine

In the photo: White glass sliding doors to the loggia

When adding a loggia to an apartment (or if there is a winter garden in a country house), sliding doors are almost irreplaceable. Typically, for such an interior, our clients choose large-format glass doors - from floor to ceiling and from wall to wall, in order to let in as much sunlight as possible into the room.

Classic interior doors can be an excellent addition to a composition of decorative stucco molding, moldings, boiserie panels and other elements of exquisite finishing. Look at the photo above and you will see clear evidence of this. The renovation of this apartment in Khimki, Moscow Region, was carried out by the Fundament Group of Companies in 2017.

In medium-sized apartments (up to 80-90 square meters), sliding interior partitions are used very often. To save space in the room, our designers choose light and white doors with mirror inserts. And the style of the interior can be emphasized favorably with the help of a decorative layout on the door leaf.

Small kitchen? Use sliding doors with stained glass inserts!

In the photo: Interior design of a small kitchen with sliding doors

If you choose sliding doors because you want to make your home more spacious and comfortable, first of all you should think about them in the kitchen and on the loggia, as well as in the hallway - for cabinets and interior doors leading to other areas of the apartment.

Sliding light doors in cream shades

Classic living room with large stained glass doors

Sliding doors with stained glass in the living room are always a good idea when it comes to classic styles. Such doors are especially often used in French interiors, where there are often two living rooms, a separate dining room, and a kitchen.

Such stained glass doors can lead to a corridor and even bedrooms. Modern versions of sliding doors have the same locking systems as conventional ones, and therefore can provide complete privacy. Matting, tinting of glass, as well as high-quality sound insulation of branded models allow them to be used in the bedroom and bathroom.

Stained glass doors are another proposal from our interior designers. Stained glass windows are always made of glass and can be tinted, ornamented, colored fresco or panel, even inlaid with rhinestones!

Interior doors with stained glass windows are good in the kitchen, bedroom and children's room - where you want to create an atmosphere of magic and comfort of your home. Themed stained glass windows depicting vines are often used in wine cellars, Victorian murals are used on the stairs, with a tropical or beach atmosphere in the swimming pool.

Solid partitions with original ornaments

Another option for sliding doors between the kitchen and living room (pictured above) is interesting with its original ornament. By the way, there are even illuminated doors, glossy ones, made with inlay, with mirror finish, stained glass and many others.

Hinged white entrance and interior doors

Fashionable entrance door in neoclassical style

In small apartments and rooms, white doors are almost always the right solution. But they do not fit into all styles as well as neoclassicism. The Fundament Group of Companies has extensive experience working with different styles (from idea to implementation, renovation, furnishing and even decoration), so we can confidently recommend neoclassicism for decorating a family-friendly, bright and elegant apartment.

Contrast of black and white in the interior of the hallway

In the photo: Interior design of a hallway with white doors

In this hallway we created a play of contrasts - on the black wall there are snow-white doors, sockets and switches, and the entrance and other doors merge with the light walls, creating the image of an airy, but at the same time interesting interior.

Glass doors with arched transom

White and beige, ash, gray and other light interior doors are usually liked by those who love modern design styles. They are also used in classics and neoclassics, while country, Provence, chalet, as well as loft and Japanese styles are characterized by dark door leaves. At the same time, it is not necessary to order an exclusive design. Correctly selected doors are already a victory.

In complex styles such as neoclassical, classic, baroque and others, interior doors are very important. They are the ones who will emphasize the luxury of the decoration of your home or apartment, and if chosen incorrectly, they will reveal that the designer is a novice. Specialists from the Fundament Group of Companies (Moscow) create interiors that are calculated down to the smallest detail, and the combinations of doors and wall decoration are always impeccable.

White door in the interior of a gray bedroom

When thinking about bedroom design, many of us first of all think about the bed, dressing room, spacious chests of drawers, beautiful boudoir area, completely forgetting about the interior doors. Of course, in general, such an approach is justified, but not at all for an interior designer.

In the photo: White doors in a modern bedroom

And for those who want to have a more laconic interior, our designers recommend a modern style - simpler, but due to its practicality, perfect for families with small children.

Dark brown wenge doors

Chocolate-colored doors of a classic living room

You can choose sliding interior doors for your interior with the help of an interior designer. He will advise not only the format and style, but also a specific shade, adjust the dimensions and make sure that the entire interior looks like a single harmonious whole.

In the living room, sliding doors are also very popular; they usually lead to the corridor or to the kitchen and have a width of 120 to 180 cm. Such doors can have from 2 to 4 modules; with the latter option, the two side ones are static, that is, they do not move.

Dark brown interior doors can often be found in interiors in the Art Nouveau and Mediterranean styles, country, chalets and some others. As a rule, they are paired with wooden furniture of the same tone.

In the photo: Corridor renovation with beautiful doors and designer finishes

Wooden interior doors in natural tones are one of the most beautiful for a homely, cozy and family interior. Check out our apartment renovation project in the photo above. You will see that the combination of dark cocoa-colored wood and carrot shade in the hallway interior immediately positions this home as a particularly welcoming place.

Mirrors, black lacquer and wenge in the interior of an Art Deco style hallway

In the photo: Interior design of a hallway with dark doors

The wenge color became popular several years ago, but with the advent of better, innovative technologies, imitation of this valuable wood species has reached a new level. Now wenge is not just a standard replacement for brown wood, but a unique texture, interesting relief and a delicate dark brown shade with a lilac or purple sheen.

In the photo: Sliding glass partitions

Sliding glass partitions save space and visually enlarge the room. But their functions do not end there. Such a fashionable design technique as combining a kitchen and living room, unfortunately, is not without its drawbacks. If you are bothered by kitchen smells, but do not want to build a solid wall between the kitchen and living room, transparent sliding partitions will come to the rescue.

Glass “wall” with dark curtains in the bathroom next to the bedroom

In the photo: Bathroom design in the bedroom

In modern interiors, it happens that there are no doors between rooms at all. Then pay attention to arches of different formats, decorative curtains and other unusual zoning options. At GC “Fundament” we offer not only traditional solutions, but also the most original ones, for example, glass walls. An opaque thick curtain of dark fabric will help you hide in a private room of the bathroom.

In the photo: Bathroom with a beautiful oak interior door

In this bathroom design project, we chose an oak door to contrast with the unusual designer bathroom tiles. Please note that other furniture in the room is made in the same shade as the door.

Interestingly, doors can also be invisible. If you use branded models, the collection of which includes wall panels (to match the doors), you can create an unusual effect.

Dark doors in the interior

In addition to white and light doors, there are also dark doors that undoubtedly deserve our attention. They can be black, imitation rosewood, wenge, zebrawood and other types of wood.

Many of them will be made in new fashionable styles, others in classic ones, but as a rule, such doors are most often used in modern interiors. The only exception is dark brown doors, which ideally complement the atmosphere of rooms in country style, chalet, art nouveau (modern) and others.

Doors, no matter what room they are installed in, are primarily important functional elements designed to protect property, divide space into zones, and provide thermal and sound insulation. However, we all strive to ensure that our home is not only safe and warm, but also pleasing to the eye, reflecting our artistic taste.

In creating a harmonious interior ensemble, where all finishing elements are in harmony, steel and interior doors made in the same style play a significant role.

One of the main design requirements states: all metal and interior doors, visible at the same time, must be in harmony with each other, since stylistic diversity violates the integrity of the interior. Even if you install an Italian FBS door or other luxury product at the entrance to the room, and the interiors will be made in a completely different style with inexpensive finishing, know that your efforts to impress your guests will be in vain.

But if the ability to select and install interior versions of one model is not a problem, then with entrance structures the situation is more complicated. To make the reliable, but still faceless metal “come to life”, various finishing materials of natural and artificial origin are used. As a rule, the inside of the front door is decorated with panels, which can be made in the same style, have the same color scheme and be decorated with the same patterns as interior products.

Materials used

Laminate is a budget option that can imitate wood, stone, tiles and at the same time has the advantage of wear resistance, since it is covered with a durable film. The material is often used as cladding on the inside of a metal door leaf. However, the surface of the laminate is not suitable for creating a milled pattern - it is completely smooth.

MDF is a premium class panel made from pressed wood and covered with PVC film, plastic or natural veneer. In appearance they are not inferior to natural material, but have a lower cost. Entrance and interior doors, the lining of which is made of MDF, can be in perfect harmony with each other.

An array of valuable species is used in respectable premises with a classic design. It can be deep milled, varnished, and supplemented with various decorative elements. When finishing steel sheets, as a rule, the same species is used from which interior options are made: oak, beech, pine, walnut, mahogany, etc.

How to achieve a harmonious combination between entrance and interior doors?

Choose from the available range of finishing panels the option that best matches the appearance of the interior structures.

Order a decorative overlay that matches the color, texture and pattern of the interior fabric.

Order metal and interior doors, made in the same style. This option is suitable for those who plan to install new products throughout the entire room.

They can completely transform the space of a house or apartment. As in interior design, door design has its own styles with characteristic features. In addition, there are various opening mechanisms and types of doors, for example, they can be entrance or interior, swing or compartment (sliders, sliding).

In the design studio of Angelika Prudnikova you have the opportunity to order designer doors according to your author’s sketch. This idea is especially relevant for premium interior design in the styles of Art Deco, classic, minimalism and others. When talking about stained glass doors, we always remember medieval architecture, which has survived to this day even in a more luxurious format than was originally intended. By the way, archaeologists found the oldest stained glass windows in the world in Egypt; they are more than 6,000 years old. In modern design, stained glass doors are commonly used in English, Victorian, Classical (sometimes with a strong nod to Ancient Greece and Antiquity) and Mediterranean styles.

Doors with stained glass are a very good option for the front entrance to a house. Imagine, the sun's rays will penetrate through the colored glass and paint the floor and walls of the hall with multi-colored paints.

In the Art Deco style, doors can be very different, but almost always with geometric patterns and gold or silver inserts. Sometimes such a door is even decorated with mirrors, but usually they are partially glass on a wooden frame with a beautiful platband. Often the door is complemented with gold handles, and the door itself is light (white or beige), but you can also find equally luxurious black or chocolate options.

In the photo above you can see a decorative pseudo-transom above the door with decorative mirrors and gold inserts.

Harmony in the house depends on its design. Designers advise choosing a single interior style and selecting all furnishing elements in accordance with it, from decoration to furniture.
Interior doors play an important role in this ensemble. They are able to assemble separate rooms into a single composition if you choose the right models.
Below we will look at the various styles of interior doors and highlight their characteristic features.

Classic

The origins of the classical style date back to the 18th century. It originated in Europe, when the pretentiousness of Baroque and Rococo was already boring to the owners of luxurious castles. The style developed under the influence of ancient culture and Italian architecture, taking the laws of rationalism as a basis. It is characterized by clarity of forms, monumentality, pure noble tones and the absence of bright decor.
Interior doors in a classic style are the undisputed market leaders thanks to their elegant, timeless design. They do not lose their relevance, although it is difficult to call them universal. Classic is suitable for many interior styles (Baroque, Art Nouveau, Provence, shabby chic, colonial), but it will not fit into a loft or industrial style.

Main features

  • Laconic design with strict decor.
  • Clear, regular lines and uncomplicated shapes.
  • The elements are arranged symmetrically.
  • Calm shades predominate, natural wood textures are welcomed.
  • The canvas is usually plain, without ornaments or prints.
Platbands with relief vertical lines imitate classic columns, and a rectangular volumetric panel decorates the simple design of the door leaf.

The original combination of natural wood texture and frosted glass has become more harmonious thanks to the addition of carvings with elegant symmetrical patterns. The swirls decorating the frosted glass insert echo the rounded contours of the lower door panel and the graceful handle.

Neoclassical

This interior style combines respectability and monumentality, noble shades and sophisticated decor, pragmatic, but at the same time elegant design. Neoclassicism is a modern interpretation of strict classics, which takes on new life through the addition of color and dynamics.
The popularity of neoclassicism is explained by the fact that it gives the opportunity to create a luxurious interior by harmoniously integrating modern household appliances and finishing materials into it.

The style is ideal for those who lack warmth in the classics, but the decorativeness of modernity seems excessive. The design of doors in the neoclassical style is the standard of graceful elegance without unnecessary rigor.

Main features

  • Natural materials are used for structures.
  • Decorative elements are arranged symmetrically.
  • The design welcomes clear lines and geometry.
  • A minimum of details in the design, a desire for refined simplicity.
  • Light colors predominate.

A striking example of the clear geometry and laconic palette of neoclassics. Despite the simple design, the door becomes the central element of the interior due to its contrasting position against the darker walls. A light neoclassical door in the company of white baseboards becomes the leitmotif of the interior, which emphasizes all the elements in white. The horizontal and vertical lines of the door repeat the geometry of the furniture, but the shade is chosen to be a warmer tone so that the similarity is unobtrusive.

Modern style and hi-tech

Despite the ultra-modernity of the high-tech trend, it arose more than 70 years ago, in the 60s of the 20th century. The heyday came in the 80s, highlighting the transition to the age of robotization and new technologies. Today, high-tech symbolizes not only technology, but also prestige - it’s not for nothing that large companies choose it for office decoration. The highlight of this style is its harmony with the spirit of the times. Life has become more dynamic, and there is a tendency to simplify the complex. In a modern interior, conciseness and functionality are welcomed, up to the rejection of any unnecessary decor that does not carry a semantic load. High-tech interior doors have adopted these characteristics of urban design.

BASIC FEATURES

  • Clear straight lines.

A laconic design in which simple vertical and horizontal intersecting lines act as decor. The basic white color looks brighter and more dynamic thanks to the stylish dark glass insert. Fittings of the same shade make the appearance of the door even brighter and more contrasting, while simultaneously creating a harmonious ensemble with graphic wall shelves.

Modern

Doors in the Art Nouveau style can be called the antipode of the classics. This is what they mean when talking about Italian-style interior doors. Exquisite models are associated with luxury, but at the same time they do not look pretentious, like door leaves in the Baroque or Empire style. This group also includes interior doors in the Provence style. They have similar design features, differing only in the predominance of pastel colors.

BASIC FEATURES

  • Use of advanced technological materials.
  • There is a limitation in decor, which is compensated by the quality and texture of materials.
  • Smooth surface of the door leaf.
  • Clear straight lines.
  • The predominance of a cold palette and the desire to use more metallic, silver tones.
  • Active use of glass and metal, refusal of wooden texture.
  • Contrasting combinations in color.
  • The fittings are strict and simple in design.
  • The strict design is diluted with a small decorative element located along the line of the golden ratio.
  • Minimalism

    Interior doors in the minimalist style comply with the general rules of the interior design direction: rejection of pretentious decor and curved lines. These are the most laconic designs with emphasized geometry. This is not to say that their design is simple and boring: originality is achieved through a combination of expressive textures and competent use of colors.

    BASIC FEATURES

    • Lack of patterns, ornaments and prints.
    • Straight lines and angles, refusal of smooth transitions and rounded shapes.
    • The door leaf is usually flat, without protruding panels.
    • The palette consists of basic colors.
    • The decor is very restrained: mainly inserts made of other materials (glass, metal, plastic).

    The original combination of a cool wood shade with gray color is emphasized by a laconic black vertical insert. The simple design gained originality thanks to the geometry of the wooden panels.

    Vintage

    This direction implies a craving for everything old and antique. For interior decoration, worn items and faded fabrics are used, and in the decoration of furniture and door structures, artificial aging and patination technologies are used. Vintage style interior doors don't have to be older than you - many modern styles can easily fit into this category.

    Main features

    • Unobtrusive, calm colors of a warm range.
    • Floral motifs in the design.
    • Antique styling.
    • Fancy fittings.

    The whimsical pattern on the glass takes us back to the era of romanticism. This design option for the glass insert gives the model elegance and sophistication.

    Loft

    Loft-style interior doors are suitable for large rooms with high ceilings. Typically, such spaces do not have a clearly defined layout with separate rooms, and door structures are used to a minimum. The style is restrained and laconic. This also includes interior doors in the Scandinavian style and the industrial direction.

    Main features

    • Massive, large structures.
    • Technological materials with a predominance of metal and textured wood.
    • Active use of bright colors and contrasting combinations.
    • Rough fittings without fancy elements.
    • Sliding models are welcome.

    The laconic design and gray color are a striking example of a door for a loft-style interior. A clear glass insert adds originality to this model.
