Woodshed - extension to the house

The benefit of a woodshed is that under a canopy the wood dries out and does not get wet due to snow and rain. Even a damp tree dries out over a season under a canopy and becomes suitable for use in a stove or fire.

The firewood storage should be built as separate room, or as a canopy extension to the wall of an existing building.

Woodshed near the wall of the house

Variant of the woodshed with a design of approx. external wall residential building under a canopy.

Woodshed in country house- option near the wall of the building

You can pre-allocate a place near the wall, a niche for future firewood preparation. It is very convenient in terms of accessibility, the main thing is that the canopy completely protects the wood from precipitation.

Choosing a location for the woodshed

When choosing a place for a woodshed, consider the distance to the furnace; it is best to place it near a utility block or shed. Or at the back wall of a residential building.

Woodshed next to the bathhouse

The photo shows a version of the woodshed under the roof of the bathhouse. When storing firewood in this way, take into account the direction of the prevailing winds so that slanting rains do not flood the workpieces.

A small woodshed with your own hands near the house

The woodshed can be small, in the form of a low canopy. This is good for a dacha, where you do not spend the whole winter, but only part of the time in the off-season. In this case, not much firewood will be required. If you come for a weekend in winter, then large quantity you won't need any firewood.

Choosing the type of wood burner

DIY woodshed shed

The woodshed canopy is the simplest and most convenient design. Allows you to fill the room without problems, the availability of firewood is excellent. It can be with three walls and a roof, the floor is at your discretion. Instead of gender, an option is possible wooden logs— guides on which firewood is placed. The canopy can be attached to an existing building, this will allow you to limit yourself to two walls.

DIY woodshed shed

A wood shed in the form of a barn can also be built with your own hands in as soon as possible. It is recommended to make walls in steps for better ventilation internal space. The roof is usually gable or single-pitch, at your discretion.

The woodshed can be combined with a utility room; the photo shows the idea of this option. On the right is a woodshed, and on the left is a utility block for storing summer cottage equipment.

Materials for construction: do-it-yourself woodcutter

Do-it-yourself wooden woodcutter

Wood is usually used to build woodsheds, and it can even be used boards or substandard slabs. If your yard has a unified design style, then the design of the woodshed, naturally, should correspond to the general style of the site. In any case, any room for storing firewood should have natural ventilation.

Beautiful woodshed - ideas for a summer house

Some summer residents make their woodshed from polycarbonate. The idea, in my opinion, is interesting, the only thing you should pay attention to is that ventilation in such a structure should be on all sides, since plastic does not breathe and can retain moisture.

A small wrought-iron woodshed will be an excellent addition to the recreation area, gazebo with barbecue.

Ready-made woodsheds - for home and garden

Metal woodshed for home and garden

Now you can buy ready-made wood burners, absolutely different forms and sizes. from small firewood sheds to full-fledged woodsheds.

Construction of a woodshed adjacent to the wall with your own hands

The woodshed itself is a fairly easy structure to build; you can take any shed as a basis and make a full-fledged woodshed out of it, the main thing is to plan the ventilation in advance so that the wood dries naturally.

If you find it difficult to manage the shed, you can attach the woodshed to the wall of the house. If possible, choose north side at home - insulate the wall and dry the firewood. If this is not possible, then just look for a free wall and make a canopy.

How to build a woodshed with your own hands

Construction pallets can be used as flooring. They should be placed on bricks, or a full-fledged floor should be made from boards. The frame can be made of timber, and the roof can be made of corrugated sheets or polycarbonate. I do not recommend working with roofing felt, as it quickly becomes unusable - in just a couple of seasons.

The frame of the woodshed should be covered with boards, with a small step for ventilation.

Construction of a separate woodshed

DIY woodcutter drawing

A free-standing woodshed can be made at columnar foundation, or just on concrete blocks, even without deepening, just on a crushed stone cushion.

Construction principle stationary woodcutter— we form bottom trim, logs, laying down the subfloor, raising the frame of the walls, making top harness and the roof. Then we cover the frame with boards or slabs, with slots for natural ventilation, and cover the roof with roofing material.

The presence of a woodshed in the courtyard of a residential building or cottage means a lot to the owners. This is a room for long-term storage of firewood. Firewood is used to heat a house, a bathhouse, or to build a fire to cook kebabs or barbecues. In order to be satisfied with these benefits constantly, they stock up on sufficient quantities. wood materials and store in a dry place. Firewood should be stored in a covered, ventilated area to keep it dry. This will ensure order and a neat appearance on the site. It is not necessary to spend money on hiring workers and new materials to build a woodshed. It is much easier and cheaper to build a woodshed yourself than to build a house or barn.

During construction, the following materials are used: wood (boards, timber, joists), brick, timber or metal beams, roofing from materials used for the roofing of a residential building, etc. To begin with, they plan the future location of the woodshed, prepare a drawing of the premises and decide what materials to build from. The choice of design and materials is made taking into account the location of the future structure, the size of the residential building, the arrangement and appearance of the site, the material level of the owner of the future structure

Some limit themselves to building a simple functional room from available residual materials, without caring about appearance. It’s another thing to build a neat building with your own hands, which will fit into the picture with both an expensive house and an old, but well-groomed and decorated house; With green garden And flower beds in the courtyard and bathhouse, where family, relatives, friends and colleagues like to relax. If you have worked hard on the design of the house and the site, then it is worth building a woodshed with a corresponding appearance so that it becomes an additional decoration on the site.

Where to build?

If the house has a stove or fireplace, it is advisable to build a woodshed close to the house, but so that it is not too noticeable. It is advisable to take into account the entrance for vehicles that will deliver and unload firewood.

If firewood is not required for heating the house, then the woodshed is built closer to the bathhouse (if available) or barbecue area.

Prepare drawing and tools

The drawing is needed for a detailed representation of the construction and dimensions, preparation of the required tools. For construction you will need: a hammer, a drill, pliers, twine, a stepladder, a plumb line, a hacksaw. Next, materials for construction are purchased. If the opportunity arises, they work with materials used in the construction of previous structures.

How to make a base

First they plan what to build the foundation from. Foundation columns are made of brick, concrete, stone. The base on the logs is installed on posts and leveled. The foundation is made at a depth of 30-60 centimeters. The height of the logs is 10-15 cm from the ground level, which will prevent dampness in the structure. Boards are installed on top of the logs laid in a row.

To prolong the quality of construction and eliminate the appearance of fungi, you need to cover the base special compounds and treat boards and joists with fire-retardant compounds. Columns of logs made of brick and concrete are connected with anchors.

Tip: discussing methods for decorating a woodshed with family or close friends or neighbors will give useful ideas and thoughts. Children enthusiastically connect to such interesting tasks and willingly present interesting ideas. The use of leftover materials (firewood, pieces of boards, logs, etc.) will resolve the fuss with construction waste

Roof construction option

Four sheets of wood are attached to the beams. They reduce costs by using beams that have not been treated with special compounds. But it is advisable not to skimp on this. For reliability, install another beam on both sides. The sheets are placed on top of the beams so that the edges are in the center of the width of the beam. The sheets are fitted tightly to each other and nailed with a nail (screws). If it is discovered that the size of the sheet does not fit the beam, lay another beam and attach the sheet to it. It is recommended to lay a tarpaulin in the roof to prevent precipitation and moisture from penetrating into the room. When purchasing tarpaulin, the main thing to remember is that you need to cover the entire area, and it is better to have extra pieces of tarpaulin left than to find out that a few meters or centimeters are missing at the time of construction. Before trimming, a sheet of wood is applied to the beam and, having decided on the right size, cut off the extra piece. The slope of the roof is made towards the rear of the structure, as moisture drains from the roof. Additional benefit The installation of a drain to collect water will serve. At discretion, the flow of water from the drain is directed to moisture-loving plants Location on.

How to make a woodshed floor?

The assumption that flooring is not needed in a room is incorrect. Main function woodshed - storing firewood in a dry, ventilated place. If the floor is missing, accumulated moisture causes the wood to rot. The distance between the first layer of firewood and the ground is at least 10 centimeters. Take into account waterproofing under the joists

Common types of wood burners:

  • Open
  • In the form of a canopy
  • In the form of a barn
  • From an old barrel
  • From rabbitry
  • From pallets
  • Forged woodshed
  • Frame woodshed
  • From logs

Open

Easy to build and at the same time neat looking. Materials used: beams, boards, bricks, etc. It is attached to the house without installing a canopy or roof. If the woodshed is built on a terrace, you don’t have to think about an additional foundation. It is advisable to build a woodshed on the side of the house with natural ventilation, where few fall sunlight. It is recommended to leave a gap between it and the wall of the house to prevent moisture from entering.

In the form of a canopy

This type consists of three walls. A roof (single or gable) is installed on two side walls. Instead of sheathing, plywood is used; rafters are not used.

The canopy is made wider than the size of the structure using materials similar to those for the roof of a residential building. Correct option laying firewood - in two rows to select firewood from both sides

Another type of wood shed

This is also a common type of canopy. Consists of three walls. The roof (single or gable) rests on two side walls. This is a lightweight type of roof for a residential building due to the non-use of rafters and the use of plywood instead of sheathing. Boards with corrugated sheets and tiles are used.

In the form of a barn

It looks like a house with a window for ventilation and a door. Built like a barn, only smaller in size and intended for storing firewood. It is built from boards, plywood, galvanized sheets and slate. This building is closed on four sides, so waterproofing under the roof is taken into account. The construction of such a structure is useful in that it provides an additional storage room household appliances and tools. This way they will be in one place and not scattered throughout the area. If you store firewood on the veranda under the benches, you will get something like a woodshed.

From an old barrel

Apply old barrel as a mobile container for storing firewood. Place an iron hoop in the middle of the barrel and cut out the container with a jigsaw. Carved legs are attached to it. Insert the cutting into the prepared holes. This type of woodcutter is designed for a small amount of firewood.

From rabbitry

Some people make woodsheds from empty rabbit hutches. Remove the mesh and doors and fix the roof. If necessary, strengthen some places metal frame. This cheap way store firewood and is suitable for people who rarely visit their dachas

From pallets

Unnecessary pallets are reused to build a woodshed. This method not expensive if you have old pallets. The advantage of this type of construction is that new materials are not purchased. The room is constantly ventilated. A cube is made from five pallets without edges, fixing the joints with corners. Paint will be required to protect against moisture.

Forged woodshed

Forged products are sold or made to order. They are used at home near the fireplace or in the yard in the barbecue area. They are compact, neat, do not take up space, but the cost is higher compared to construction costs self-made. Another difference is the small capacity.

Frame woodshed

A frame woodshed is easy to erect. Air penetrates into the room and prevents the appearance of dampness. The woodshed consists of four columns and a sloped roof. You can use boards non-standard sizes. The only drawback is that precipitation gets on the firewood.

From logs

A log structure is built in the same way as a shed. Only from logs instead of timber. But it is not as easy to build as from timber. Logs, moreover, are more expensive than timber. The advantage of this type of wood burner is its attractive appearance. Moreover, if a residential building on the site was built from logs, then two structures from of this material pleasing to the eye.

Decorating the woodshed

Having completed the construction, they work on how to improve and decorate the outside of the structure and fit it into the surrounding landscape. Every person values both functionality and beauty.

  • Flower beds are a popular method of decorating a woodshed.
  • Or install a birdhouse
  • Change the wood tone to your desired color
  • It is important to place the firewood correctly and carefully. The aesthetic appearance cannot be neglected. Firewood is stacked in a semicircle in round woodsheds, and in squares in rectangular ones. If there is no floor, put trellises under the woodpiles, so the firewood remains dry. Long logs are placed at the bottom. The firewood is placed tightly next to each other in a row; it is better to place the next layer with an indentation above the bottom layer with a slope.
  • Summer residents use their favorite plants as decorations for the woodshed. Wild grapes, ivy, flowers are suitable for decoration.
  • A camouflage net is used.
  • Lantern charged by sunlight.

The use of wood for heating, for barbecues or fireplaces is not uncommon nowadays. For convenience and storage of dry firewood, homemade firewood racks are used. Examples of different options can be seen in the photo of a woodpile below.

If you have a private house and you use wood for heating, it is convenient to have a shed with a roof to protect it from rain and snow. But this will require significant costs for building materials. For a fireplace and barbecue with a stove, you can build a wooden wood rack.

Regardless of which storage method you have chosen, first of all you should decide on the size of the skeleton of the structure itself, depending on its location and your wishes.

Do-it-yourself firewood rack at the dacha

If you have no idea how to make a woodpile, then this example will suit you. A practical and inexpensive design consisting of a rack - a good choice for storing firewood. The structure must be durable and have slots for wind blowing, thereby increasing the shelf life of firewood, relieving it of moisture.

To assemble, you will need a regular set of tools for working with wood (meter, jigsaw, file, pencil, drill, screws), and a couple of boards small size approximately 2x4 cm thick - this parameter will be sufficient.

The structure should be strong and similar to the skeleton of a small inverted table. Attach to the corners additional beam with edges cut at 45 degrees for added stability.

By assembling the structure using self-tapping screws and a screwdriver, you will get a beautiful robust construction, but with your adjustments regarding the sizes.

The work does not involve much effort or expense. It is not difficult for a summer resident to move the firewood shed to any other place, and due to the additional supports the structure will last for a long time By allowing you to keep firewood close to your house or gazebo, you will save time and energy.

Methods for stacking firewood

The generally accepted methods of storing firewood are from above and from below. Main principle when laying firewood, ensure that the structure does not fall apart and does not spill out due to unstable stacking of firewood.

There are three common ways to stack a woodpile:

  • “Stack” (boards and firewood are stacked in rows parallel to each other);
  • "Cage" (every subsequent upper layer firewood is stacked perpendicular to the bottom layer);
  • “Circular method” (laying firewood in a circle and filling the center with the same circular method, vertically or horizontally, since the middle will act as a support for the entire structure).

"Stack"

The stacking method will require a wall for support, a house, barn or garage. Without supporting wall the structure will not be stable and will soon fall apart.

When folding in parallel rows, it is worth tilting to the side support post or walls, for greater structural integrity.

The easiest way is to take the thicker edges of the firewood and stack them on the outside. Or another method is to place slats under the ends of the stumps. Alternatively, you can use separate woodpiles.

The process of laying firewood on a woodpile with your own hands is no longer routine, but creative; many perform the so-called bitmaps, using a variety of sizes and colors of stumps, thereby decorating your yard.

Circular method

The circular method does not require supports or separate structures. This DIY woodpile is very simple, as it does not require additional financial or physical effort.

To install a round woodpile, you should be very careful in choosing the place where the firewood will be located. To do this, select a part of the place, preferably on a hill on your site, so that after rain water does not collect under the firewood.

In place of the woodpile, add crushed stone and sand so that the firewood does not lie directly on the damp ground. The top of the structure can be covered with a sheet of iron or anything else that you have available.

The shape of a round woodpile resembles a mushroom; this method is very convenient and simple, which is why summer residents choose it.

Photo of firewood for a summer residence

Do you live in a country house? Do you have a fireplace or stove? In this case, you need to take care of a supply of firewood for winter period. Comfortable spot To store firewood, you can organize it next to the house or make a special firewood bin located near the entrance to it. It is worth noting that you can make a woodshed from materials that are available on personal plot. Most often, the starting material is wooden blocks. Today you will learn about different options firewood and methods for making it yourself.

Purpose

The main purpose of a firewood box is to protect firewood from bad weather, such as snow or rain. If you make lattice walls, which is very desirable in this case, then the firewood will have enough air for timely ventilation. The size of the structure is not so significant; you can vary the size in accordance with your personal ideas about the woodcutter and needs.

Do not think that neatly stacked firewood near the house can be perfectly stored for the entire heating season. This type of storage can be dangerous for two reasons. Firstly, the area around the woodpile will very soon lose its attractiveness. And secondly, although the firewood will be dry inside, due to moisture it will smoke and hiss in the fireplace. The problem can be solved by building a storage area for firewood or at least making a shed for it.

For the convenience of storing firewood, a special design was invented, called a firewood shed or woodshed. Such a structure can be:

  • indoor;
  • street;
  • portable;
  • stationary.

To make a firewood box, either metal or wood may be suitable for you. There is no doubt about one thing: every home owner can build a firewood shed with his own hands.

Let's get to work! Collecting material and tools

If you have chosen to build a woodshed from timber, then, strictly speaking, you will need such starting materials, How:

  • bars,
  • wooden pallets from building materials,
  • roofing felt or film,
  • impregnation intended for wood processing,
  • screws.

Among the tools of primary importance are:

  • hacksaw,
  • brushes,
  • screwdriver,
  • construction stapler.

We build a firewood shed from beams

To construct the base of the building you will need 4 beams. They may not be new, but they must be durable. Pre-select a place for the firewood and mark it with pegs and rope. Now dig 4 holes, about 60 cm deep. You can do this with a shovel or garden drill. Then insert the pillars, and then fill them with clay and fine gravel. Compact the base thoroughly.

For better compaction, add layers of fine gravel and sand alternately, approximately 10 centimeters thick. Compact each layer using a pole.

Note! To provide good drain rainwater, you need to make a roof with a slope, which means the beams for the base must have different heights. The height difference should be exactly 15 cm if the pillars are 1.5 m apart from each other.

Control the dimensions of the structure to create and maintain a rectangular shape.

At this stage, you need to fasten the front and back posts together. To do this, use 2 bars. You will need screws to attach the crossbars. The walls can be sewn up with a slab, leaving gaps between it that will serve to ventilate the room. By the way, croaker is one of the most economical wood materials. And if the walls made from it are sanded and varnished, then it will become an excellent addition to the landscape of the site. To strengthen the structure, install braces along the side walls.

Now let's talk about the roof. The easiest way is to make a flooring from the same slab and cover it with ondulin or roofing felt. To prevent tearing of the material, place a spacer made of plastic over the nails. of stainless steel. As mentioned above, to improve the aesthetic appearance of the structure, it can be painted or varnished. So in a simple way You can make a good firewood storage out of nothing.

Schemes of construction stages

Making a compact wood burner for your home

Perhaps bringing an armful of firewood into the house will not be a big deal for you, but then the dilemma arises: where to put it so as not to clutter up the space near the fireplace and keep it as clean as possible? Yes, and you are unlikely to be able to bring a lot in one armful at once, and few people will like going out into the cold every time to get a small portion of firewood. In view of this, many fireplace owners are thinking about building a firewood rack for their home.

A firewood rack for a home can be made from different materials. For example, you can weave a special basket to carry firewood. It can be intended for one person or for two. Here, of course, a metal firewood can be used. However, the weight of the metal will most likely create inconvenience for you. If it is made from sheet metal and a rod of small cross-section, then portable firewood It won't be that hard. Even a barrel made of wood and a schoolbag after the simplest alteration can become a very convenient accessory for carrying firewood.

Metal woodshed for home

If you know how to weld, but don’t know how to make a woodcutter, then try making simple design made of metal rod, about 8 mm in diameter. To do this, cut 4 identical pieces 30-40 cm long, and then weld them together to form a base. Bend two rods about 160-180 cm long in an arc like the letter U, so that the distance between the legs is equal to the length of the main side. So, you will lay the foundation for the sides of the woodshed.

Then weld the sides to the base so that the arcs remain at the top. The ends of the rods should protrude 3 cm below the base. They will serve as legs. To create resistance to them, you can weld metal plates. Open the finished woodshed with a layer of metal paint.

Wicker woodshed for home

To make a wicker woodcutter, you need to purchase a willow twig, wooden slats and thick copper wire. First, put together a rectangular base from purchased slats. On their opposite sides, drill holes every 3 cm. Then insert into them willow twigs, choose thick rods for this, because they will be the basis for weaving.

Insert in the middle copper wire instead of a rod and make an arc out of it. It will serve as the basis for the woodcutter handle. Bend the ends of the wire using pliers. Bend the main rods at the required angle to the bottom and intertwine them with thin rods.

After this, bend the racks one by one, wrap it behind the adjacent thick rod and seal it into the lash from the inside. After this, wrap thin rods around the wire so as to hide its ends.

Unique types of firewood

Do you have a bench with legs installed near the bathhouse or barbecue? Then a place for storing firewood can be installed under it. You will get a wonderful firewood rack without any effort. However, this option is only acceptable if the seat of your bench is solid, without holes or gaps. Otherwise rainwater will fall on the firewood, which will subsequently cause it to become damp.

Barrels can also be used to store firewood. It can be wooden, metal or plastic barrels. Lay them on their side and then fill them solid fuel. The barrel can be used as a single wood burner near the barbecue, or you can lay out an entire wall from several barrels. So, you can not only store firewood, but also divide the area into zones distinguished by functionality.

Can serve as a woodcutter concrete rings. This option is very non-standard, but it looks just great! To create such a structure, you need to purchase concrete well rings and use physical force, since the rings are very heavy. So, you should lay the rings on their side, having first prepared a crushed stone compacted cushion for them. To do this, dig a hole 20-25 cm and fill it with crushed stone, and then compact it. Such a base will not allow the rings to move out of place. If your firewood box consists of several rings, then connect them together, for example, with anchor bolts. Multi-level design using rings different sizes looks especially attractive.

Firewood, as fuel, continues to occupy an important place in our lives. Who doesn’t like to light a grill or barbecue at the dacha, fry kebabs, bake meat or vegetables over an open fire and fresh air? And light the fireplace cold winter evening and spend a romantic evening near him? How about heating a bathhouse or sauna with wood? Wood stoves in country and rural houses they often remain the main or emergency heating device. Well, if there is a need for firewood, then the owner of the house or cottage involuntarily has to solve the problem of where to store and dry it.

Firewood storage areas at the dacha

Firewood stored for fuel requires storage conditions that should provide them with protection from precipitation and ground moisture, as well as the ability to dry them.
To store firewood, you can adapt existing structures and premises in the yard - a shed, a storage room, put it under the stairs, etc.
Firewood can be stacked in a special way in the yard in a woodpile and covered with thick polyethylene or roofing felt.
Of course you can build special building– a woodcutter, also known as a woodcutter or woodcutter. In this article we will try to figure out how to make a firewood rack yourself.

Types of firewood

A woodshed for a summer house can be:

  • in the form of an extension (or attached) to capital building(house, barn, bathhouse, etc.);
  • a separate building.

According to the design of the firewood there are:

  • in the form of an open canopy;
  • semi-closed canopy;
  • woodshed;
  • mobile firewood box or shed (open, semi-closed).

When choosing materials for its construction, you can be guided by the principle “from what is at hand” or purchase the necessary building materials for construction.
The woodshed can be built:

  • from sanded logs;
  • from timber - timber, flooring, boards;
  • from building bricks and cinder blocks;
  • from metal pipes round or profile section;
  • using corrugated sheets and plywood.

The following can be used to cover the roof:

  • asbestos-cement and bitumen slate;
  • sheets metal corrugated sheeting or roofing iron;
  • mats and fascines made of reeds;
  • roofing felt, pieces of old linoleum.

Although the firewood shed is not the most important structure on the site, for a good owner it will be important to build it neat and convenient, to fit it appearance to the exterior of the courtyard.

Determining the parameters and design of the firewood box

Having realized the need for a room for storing firewood, and having decided to build a woodshed, the home master, first of all, must determine:

  • place for its construction;
  • its design volume;
  • the basic design of the structure.

The location for the construction of the firewood shed is selected based on the following considerations:

  • minimizing the path of bringing firewood to the place where it is burned (usually near the porch of the house, bathhouse, patio);
  • If possible, get close to the place of sawing and chopping wood.

The volume of the firewood shed is determined by the need for firewood, the availability of time and opportunities to replenish its supply. If firewood is needed periodically and not large quantities To light a barbecue, fry kebabs or light a fireplace, then a small closed or semi-closed wood shed or wood box will be enough to store them. If firewood is needed in large quantities to heat the house during the heating season, and the owner has the opportunity to periodically replenish its supply, then a large semi-closed shed with several sections for storing firewood is needed. If firewood for fuel is collected for the entire heating season, then you cannot do without a more serious woodshed.

The equipment, tools and supplies needed to build a firewood shed are determined by the choice construction materials(wood and timber, brick and stone, rolled metal (sections, shapes, sheets)).
The choice of design for the firewood rack is made by the home craftsman based on the results of an assessment of the above factors, as well as the availability of building materials.
The design of the firewood rack must have:

  • roofing (single or gable) for protection from precipitation;
  • roof supports (pillars, columns, piers or walls);
  • high floor to protect firewood from ground moisture;
  • screens (boards or walls) to protect firewood from slanting rain.

A full-fledged woodshed, in addition, has a door block and a locking device (bolt, lock).

DIY firewood projects

Shed for firewood made of wooden beams

A simple design of a woodshed is a canopy made of planed wooden beam(100x100 mm, 150x150 mm) or both floors (200 mm). Its variant is a canopy made of sanded logs (about 200 mm in diameter), which looks somewhat less neat, although it is not without a peculiar “ethnic” charm.
A wooden canopy can be made attached to the wall of the house or in the form of a independently located structure.
The simplest wood shed consists of four or more (six, eight) pillars dug into the ground in two rows, to which the mauerlats of its roof or the rafters themselves are attached (in the simple version pitched roof). In the version of the canopy attached to the wall of the house, you can get by with one row of columns; the second row can be replaced by a longitudinal bar (mauerlat) attached directly to the wall of the house or barn.

For support pillars, holes are dug with an earth drill or shovel. Pillars made of timber or logs (obapola) are embedded in the ground to 0.25 - 0.3 of their length, so that their above-ground part is about 2 - 2.5 meters. The underground part of the pillars, in order to avoid their rapid rotting, is treated with an antiseptic. The posts in the holes are fixed by butting with crushed stone (stone, broken brick) or pouring concrete. For greater structural stability it is recommended support pillars tie the wood shed with one or two (bottom and top) horizontal ties (cross members).

Shed roof

When installing the simplest pitched roof, rafters consisting of one bar (50x50 mm) or board (50 mm) are nailed from above to the end to the support pillars. At the same time, to form a roof slope, one row of pillars is shorter than the other. In the version attached to the wall of the house, the longer pillars will be closer to the wall so that the roof slope of the woodshed is directed in the opposite direction from it. Moreover, it is recommended to make the roof of a canopy attached to the wall of a house only pitched, in order to prevent rainwater from flowing onto the wall and under the wall of the house. In a separate shed, longer pillars are arranged on the side from which the approach is made for stacking or selecting firewood.

Gable roof

For device gable roof two longitudinal mauerlats (made of 100x100 mm timber) are nailed to the supporting pillars of the canopy from above. Light triangular rafter frames (according to the number of pairs of support posts) made of 50x50 mm timber or 50 mm boards are assembled on the ground and pulled up to the top of the canopy using ropes or by hand.
After fastening the roof rafters with nails to the mauerlats (performed strictly above the supporting pillars of the canopy) or directly to the pillars (in single-slope version) roof sheathing is placed on the rafters, usually from 20 mm unedged boards. After this, using a stepladder or ladder, a light roofing covering (roofing material, asbestos-cement or bitumen slate, roofing iron or corrugated sheeting) is applied to the sheathing. In some cases, in order to harmonize the exterior of the woodshed with tiled roof at home, it is also possible to lay relatively light bitumen shingles or metal tiles.

The floor in the firewood shed is made at a height of about 20 cm from the ground level. At this height, longitudinal logs made of timber 100x100 mm, 150x150 mm or 200 mm obapola are nailed to the support pillars. Due to the considerable weight of the firewood stacked under the canopy, which is supported by the floor joists, in the area where they are attached to the pillars, it is recommended to strengthen them with triangular (trapezoidal) struts cut from boards, and to place stones or bricks under their mid-lengths.
A lattice floor made of unedged boards 50 mm thick with such a step (about 10 cm) that air can freely penetrate into the gaps between them to ventilate the woodpile, but chopped firewood does not fall through.
The wood shed project can easily be expanded with side screens on two or three sides, except for the side from which the firewood is stacked and collected. In this case, we will get a semi-closed type firewood rack.
The screens of a semi-closed firewood shed are attached (nailed, screwed) directly to the supporting posts and crossbars of the canopy. Lateral protective screens can be made:

  • from edged and unedged boards;
  • from sanded logs;
  • from sheets of waterproof plywood;
  • from sheets of corrugated sheets or roofing iron;
  • from sheets of asbestos-cement and bitumen slate.

Wood shed made of brick (cinder block, stone)

The version of a shed for storing firewood made of brick or stone differs from the previous one in that, in principle, it is possible to lay support pillars in the form of columns from brick. It is advisable to immediately lay down more stable and reliable transverse walls at least as thick as a brick. There should be at least two such walls, and if the wood shed is long and capacious, then three or more, which form transverse compartments.
If you add a rear brick (stone, cinder block) wall to the transverse walls, you will get a semi-closed brick firewood shed.
The brick walls and the back wall of the woodshed already have a considerable weight, and for them it is necessary to pour a small amount of concrete strip foundation(20 - 25 cm high) or place reinforced concrete pillars at their base.
When laying walls it is necessary to provide:

  • below - half-brick ledges up to 20 cm wide and high, for laying wooden plank floor joists on them;
  • at the top - sealing of mauerlats made of timber, logs or obapola with a thickness of about 200 mm for attaching roof rafter frames to them.

You can save on wooden frames rafters, completing the upper part brick walls not horizontal, but inclined (for a single-pitched roof) or bilaterally inclined (for a gable roof). In such cases, the roof plank sheathing should be laid and embedded in the upper inclined edges of the piers, which will replace the rafter frames.
Laying the roofing and flooring of a brick woodshed is similar or very close to similar operations for a wooden shed.

Mobile firewood welded from metal pipes

It is very tempting to have a mobile shed (or box) on the site for storing firewood, which can be installed according to seasonal needs where its position is most appropriate. In winter, its place is closer to the door of the house for quickly bringing firewood to the stove or fireplace, in spring or autumn - near the bathhouse, and in summer - near the patio or lawn, where barbecue is usually grilled.
In a mobile woodshed structure great importance It has optimal combination its rigidity and weight. You can also build a wooden mobile shed or a large box, but most likely it will be unacceptably heavy or not rigid and reliable enough. Welded steel is best suited for this purpose. metal structure canopy made of profile or round pipes thickness (section) about 70 – 80 mm or metal corners(with shelves 70 - 80 mm) or channel No. 8.
The basis of such a mobile structure is a welded metal frame of a cubic or rectangular volumetric shape (1 - 1.5 m wide, 2 - 2.5 m long, up to 2 m high), reinforced on three sides with transverse ties and corner crossbars. One side of the frame metal canopy, intended for access to firewood, is reinforced only with corner crossbars.
Runners from a wide angle (flange 100 - 120 mm) or channel No. 10, No. 12 are welded to the bottom of the frame. The ends of the runners on both sides are bent upward, like a sled. The top of the frame is made one or two sides inclined, for the installation of a single or gable roof.
As roofing This kind of canopy uses corrugated sheeting, which is attached to the frame with screws or bolts with press washers. You can use corrugated sheets or sheets of waterproof plywood to seal one, two or three sides of such a metal firewood rack.

Woodshed

To store and dry firewood, you can build a separate shed on the site - wooden or brick. But this will already be a real building with its inherent elements:

  • strip or pile foundation;
  • solid load-bearing walls;
  • almost full-fledged single-slope or gable roof(it will be possible to do without the ceiling and attic);
  • door frame with doors;
  • ventilation windows or vents.

The procedure and technology for constructing a woodshed are almost the same as those used for the construction of other outbuildings.
Practice shows that there are a great many variations in the design of woodsheds. Although firewood shed projects that you can build yourself are quite affordable. No matter how difficult it was to make sure, build it home handyman for a dacha, country or rural house on your own is not such a difficult task.
