It is not difficult to make a garden swing with your own hands if you know how to use tools. All work can be completed in one or two days.

What to make a swing from

You can construct them from almost anything you can get your hands on:

  • Wood: beams, trimmings, logs, slats from boxes, boards, slats, benches.
  • Metal: pipes, profiles, rods, wire, chains, rings, hooks, sheets.
  • Plastic: boxes, chairs, hoops, pipes.
  • Shaped parts from sewerage: tees, elbows.
  • Bearings.
  • Ropes, ropes.
  • Tires.
  • Thick fabric, tarpaulin.
  • Cases and seats of old cars and motorcycles.

As you can see, we can continue ad infinitum, but we will limit ourselves to this list for now.

Beginning of work

To properly make a garden swing with your own hands, you first need to prepare a project and drawings future design, based on the material you have available. If you are planning to make a metal garden swing, but there are not enough parts, you can ask your neighbors, friends, or make them from another material, such as wood.

Prepare a pencil (pen), eraser, ruler, paper, protractor. They will be needed not only for drawing, but also for subsequent marking of parts. If you can’t immediately start drawing (you don’t know where to start), then just sketch out a drawing of the swing, “as you see it.” It will be much easier to draw from a drawing.

Don't feel like you're wasting your time drawing out all the details. At the construction stage, you will have to refer to the drawing more than once.

Installation of supports and crossbar

Installation of supports can be carried out in different ways:

  1. Install two vertical beams or pipes.
  2. Dig two capital letters L.
  3. Install two A-frames.
  4. Mount the supports like the letter X.

The photo shows different kinds installations. As you can see, the crossbars are also secured differently. In addition to such fastening methods, for example, in the first photo, you can drill the racks at the top and install a metal pipe or a thick rod. An axle from a cart or trailer is used as it.

If you made racks from wide boards– you can drill them out and install bearings in the holes. Cover them on both sides with perforated sheets of metal, which are nailed to the board. A rod must be inserted or pressed into the holes.

A more advanced method of fixing the horizontal line involves a special design mounted on poles, made by welding three sections of metal pipes.

There are several options for mounting supports:

  1. Install on the ground or dig into it. The option is bad. Due to dampness, the end of the beam will rot and the whole thing will collapse to the ground.
  2. Wrap the butt of the support with polyethylene or paint it.
  3. Concrete the support.
  4. Install on a special podium or terrace.

The second and third options are more acceptable. You need to wrap the end so that the film extends 20-50 cm outwards. This will protect the bottom of the protruding part of the column from dampness in winter (into snowdrifts). The same must be done when filling the pillar with cement. The formwork should protrude from the ground.

Suspension and mounting structures

To prevent children and especially adults (due to the greater weight) from falling, it is necessary to hang the swing securely. To do this you need to find:

  • fairly strong ropes - you can use parachute lines (withstand 150 kg) or mountaineering ropes;
  • chains - even those used to tie dogs are suitable, but preferably thicker ones;
  • thick wire or long metal rods with a caliber of at least 10 mm.

Mounts can be completely different:

  • From a rope. Throw a rope over the crossbar and secure it at the bottom of the seat. Or pull it through the saddle and tie it with a knot at the top.
  • Hook or ring.

The second method has several options:

The first two are designed to grip shaped crossbars: rectangular and round. They are a kind of clamps with hooks.

The last two are designed to strengthen hooks or rings in the through hole of the crossbar.

Manufacturing of seats

Everyone has long been tired of classic boards and half-logs on swings.

We will talk about several unconventional methods for making swing seats. They are easy to make and do not take much time.

Option 1.

Most easy way– use old chairs or benches made of any material that have broken legs. It's beautiful and practical. There are several ways to attach them to a swing:

  1. We drill 4 holes in the seat of the chair (blue), pass ropes through them and tie a rod or thin metal tube at the bottom. He won't let the rope slip back.
  2. We screw or nail boards to the seat (yellow) and drill them. We thread ropes through the holes and tie large knots. For safety, such knots can be omitted to prevent them from unraveling and passing through the hole. It's better to just tie the end of the rope around the board.
  3. Instead of holes in the seat, we cut out grooves and wrap a rope around the chair (pink). But the child may jump, the rope will become free and slide to the side. To prevent the rope from jumping out, we stuff boards from below.

Option 2.

You can make a seat from tarpaulin or fabric, but it is not very comfortable, since it hugs the person sitting on both sides, squeezing him. For convenience, you can install a spacer above the seat on a rope or chain and then the degree of girth will decrease.

Option 3.

Make a pseudo seat from a tire. Hang it on the ropes. Stuff soft unnecessary things into the sector facing the ground.

For convenience, take large tires, for example, from the rear wheels of a tractor.

Option 4.

Hoop as a seat. Take a hula hoop and wrap it with ropes along the diameter:

If this is difficult for you, you can put a ring in the center of the hoop and thread the ropes through it. First, place a small circle in the center and reinforce one cord so that its two ends are on the same side. Then reinforce the twine on the opposite side. And so on.

Option 5.

For this, use an old, durable basin, tub, or even a trough.

But just sitting on wood, plastic or metal is not very pleasant. For greater comfort, you can put cushions for garden swings on the seat, made of foam rubber and covered with thick fabric or leather. If you carefully make soft seats during assembly, then no pillows will be needed.

How to make a garden swing from wood

There are two ways:

Option 1.

They represent a seat made of any suitable material, suspended by one or two ropes on a branch.

From the photo you can see that the ropes can be tied in different ways, the main thing is that they do not slip:

  • on the left side, two ropes are thrown over a branch and secured below with four knots;
  • in the top right picture, one rope is suspended from a hook;
  • on the lower one there are two ropes hanging on hooks.

Option 2.

Perform the swing completely out of wooden parts. That is, make the supports and crossbar from beams or logs, and the seat from boards, slats or wooden benches and install as stated above.

If you pour the foundation, attach a knocked down special shield and a podium to it and install a swing - it will be even better. After all, the supports and shield do not touch the ground. Moreover, between the shield and the foundation there are additional bars, providing ventilation of the shield.

We provide drawings of the two designs below.

As you can see, a wooden garden swing is not that difficult to make.

How to make a garden swing from metal

Usually done welded construction in the shape of the letter P, on which the seat is suspended using hooks with clamps or through ones.

It is made from pipes with a caliber of at least 5 cm. You can simply dig in or concrete two risers, insert an axle from a wide wheelbarrow or cart into the pre-drilled holes and lock it with mounted wheels.

You can weld a wire with a swing onto the axle, because the axle will rotate freely. For greater effect, you can install it on bearings, as mentioned above.

To complete the second option, you need to weld something resembling the roof of a house. Everything is clear from the drawing.

Constructions of this type can also be made from a profile. Let us warn you right away - it is not made of plasterboard. That profile is very thin and may not support a swinging person. It is designed for stationary load.

The industry produces rectangular pipes, T-beams, I-beams. Here you can make a swing from them. Their appearance is no different from the other structures described above.

The following options are more difficult to implement, because to implement them you need to weld several pieces together.

To bend pipes, you can use a proven method:

  • the mandrel is prepared;
  • the pipe is tightly clogged with sand and plugs (wooden);
  • then carefully bend the future support along the mandrel.

These designs are distinguished by the fact that they can be easily carried or moved. True, this may require 2-4 people.

How to make a 3-seater swing

Typically, swinging designs require a single-seater, less often a double-seater option. But now the 3-seater garden swing has come into fashion.

The installation of the stands and suspension is identical to those described above, but the width is much larger.

To do this, you will need to make a special elongated seat that can accommodate three people, and install racks at a distance of at least 2 m.

The seat can be made in two versions:

  1. Classic - everyone sits facing the same direction.
  2. Modern - average rider, looking in the opposite direction.

Let's consider the first option. It is easy to implement. To make it, you can even hang a bench like the kind you see in parks. But because of her heavy weight It's not worth doing this. It’s better to make a special seat yourself.

It can be done from aluminum pipes or made of wood. Below is the assembly procedure for the three-seater seat. Its length is 1500 mm or more, the width and height of the back is 500-600 mm.

DIY wooden swing (video)

Bird trills delight the soul, and gentle swaying soothes. Garden swings in a summer cottage are needed not only by children, but also by adults. Moreover, it is absolutely not necessary to buy the same type of model covered with fabric. It’s much more interesting to create an original one designer item on one's own. How to make a garden swing with your own hands? What is better to choose for the frame, metal or wood? Tips from experienced craftsmen, drawings, a selection of photos and video instructions are in this review.

Homemade swings and their classification

As a child, it seems that the “winged swing” can reach the sun. Growing up, we remember this wonderful feeling of carefreeness. And subconsciously we want to repeat it. This is quite possible, because swings are not only for children:

  • family. They look like a bench with a high back, suspended on strong supports by chains;
  • mobile swings can be moved to another place if necessary;
  • the hammock is the ultimate champion for relaxation;
  • swing-gazebo. Suitable for several people to relax;
  • balancer or pendulum. A floor structure in the form of a log, throwing itself on one side or the other, depending on the weight of the players;
  • swings - sofas. Soft design with the ability to implement the most daring design solutions;
  • swings - “boats”.

According to the manufacturing method, swings are divided into:

  • frame;
  • frameless.

By installation method:

  • stationary;
  • portable - easy to remove and put away in another place.

The frame can be made from a number of materials and their combinations:

  • plastic and fabric;
  • tires and chains or ropes;
  • wood and chains;
  • rounded and non-cylindered beams;
  • metal.

Choosing the right option

Before you begin construction, you need to decide on the purpose of use and the material of manufacture. If a child under 3 years old needs a swing, then a purchased or homemade stationary, stable option is suitable. For children over 5 years old - lightweight plastic or wooden hanging swing. They can be attached to the beam of an awning in front of the house or to a strong tree branch. A noisy group of children will appreciate the entertainment in the form of a balance beam (pendulum).

Attention! Products made from processed wood and metal are considered the most durable. To “winter”, it is enough to cover them with polyethylene. Purchased swings with a plastic base, covered with fabric– must be disassembled for the winter and stored in a dry, warm room.

If you want your garden swing to serve not only as a place to relax, but also as an accent piece landscape design, then you can prefer noble forging or wood eco-design.

For the older generation, durable benches with a high back and canopy are ideal. For noisy young people - swinging sofas with a lot of colorful pillows or hammocks for relaxing with a book.

Original design from a car tire

A swing that any beginner can make from scrap materials. For production you will need car tire, strong rope and the ability to tie sea knots.

Installation steps:

  1. Drill four holes in the tire. 2 on each side.
  2. Insert a rope into two holes located nearby and tie it firmly at the bottom, under the tire.
  3. On the second side repeat the same steps.
  4. Choose a suitable tree branch or any other crossbar. Hang the improvised swing on the beam. The main thing is strong components that ensure safe swinging.

Such installation will not take much time, but will bring children a lot of joy.

Children's entertainment made from board and rope

The easiest swing to make, which does not require special skills and materials, is a beam suspended on a rope.

Attention! A wooden swing without a back is unstable, so it is recommended to build it for children over 7 years old. If you want a swing with a back, you can cut off the legs wooden chair and attach it with a rope to the base and back.

For installation you will need:

  • edged or unedged board 3-4 cm thick and 15-20 cm wide;
  • strong rope;
  • antiseptic, varnish;
  • hacksaw or saw.

Step by step guide:

  1. Cut a piece of board to the required length.
  2. Sand until smooth.
  3. Cover with antiseptic and varnish.
  4. Cut 2 grooves along the long sides of the board closer to the corners.
  5. Make 2 more cuts on both sides about 3 cm from the corners.
  6. Thread the rope from groove to groove with three “stitches”.
  7. Attach the rope to any crossbar.

The fastening feature guarantees the strength of the structure. The rope will not come undone or fray at the bottom.

Making family swings from wood and metal

An evening conversation on a regularly swaying bench promotes mutual understanding. And if you decorate wooden frame nice pillows, a comfortable stay is guaranteed!

Advice. The thickness of the slats for the seat of the swing bench should be greater than for the backrest.

Before construction you need to prepare everything you need:

  • 15 pine or spruce boards 10x25x2500 mm;
  • 1 board 150x50x2500 mm;
  • chain, equal to length swing;
  • 40 self-tapping screws size 80x4.5;
  • 200 self-tapping screws 51x3.5;
  • 6 carbines;
  • 2 screws with rings 12x100;
  • 2 screws with rings 12x80;
  • drill, jigsaw, a circular saw, hammer, plane.

Action plan:

  1. Cut boards 1.5 m long.
  2. Cut 6 shaped parts for the base of the bench from the thickest board.
  3. Having arranged 6 parts in 1 row, attach them to wooden planks self-tapping screws. The plank should be fastened first at the ends, then in the middle. It will take 17 boards for the seat and 15 for the back.
  4. Make two armrests and the remaining wood.
  5. Attach to bottom part armrest screw with ring.
  6. Attach the finished swing to any crossbar. If it is not there, then you can dig 2 beams into the ground, concrete them and connect them with a transverse board.
  7. Attach 2 more rings to the top crossbar.
  8. Stretch the chain and hang the swing.

A properly constructed structure will be solid and reliable, and will last for several seasons.

Sturdy base for any type of seat

You might want to hang a swing bench or a couple of children's rungs from boards on chains. The main thing is to mount a reliable base that can withstand both a small load and several adults.

For construction work The following elements are required:

  • beams 100x100 mm;
  • boards for constructing a base and canopy;
  • concrete;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • hammer, hacksaw, drill, tape measure.

Advice. The part of the beams intended for burial in the ground should be treated with bitumen varnish or resin.

Step-by-step instruction:

  1. Determine the location for the swing. This stage is important because the design is not portable.
  2. Dig 4 holes, 1 m deep each.
  3. Place the beams in the holes so that they cross at the top, resembling the letter “l”.
  4. Fill the base with concrete.
  5. Fasten the beams with self-tapping screws at the intersection points at the top.
  6. Knock down wooden flooring from half the slats.
  7. The second half consists of a canopy with a horizontal crossbar and jibs that strengthen the structure.
  8. Finish the finished frame with varnish.

Any type of swing can be attached to such a base using rings, a carabiner and a chain.

What to choose, chain or rope?

The safety of the swing directly depends on the type of suspension. Rope is a fairly strong option, especially if secured with maritime hub. But over time it can stretch out or fray. Therefore, such a suspension is recommended only for children's swings that are not subject to heavy loads.

Attention! The optimal rope is a nylon rope with a cross lay of 24 mm or more.

The chain is a more durable option that can withstand increased load.

Pros of using a metal chain:

  • strong;
  • the weakening of the ring is immediately visible;
  • optimal for weak swinging.
  • When mounted on bearings, it swings very strongly. This means that it is necessary to install a swing speed limiter;
  • In large rings, babies can get their fingers pinched.

A garden swing is not just a place to relax, but also an original “highlight” of any site. A rational choice of design, construction taking into account all the nuances and careful care will ensure a “long life” for the swing.

One of children's favorite pastimes is swinging on a swing. In the city there are swings in almost every yard. However, in the summer, children often go to their grandparents in the village or are taken with them to the dacha. To diversify your child’s holiday, you can make a children’s swing for your dacha with your own hands. You will find instructions, photos and diagrams in this article.

The swing can have different design: from the simplest bungee to a large swing on which you can even lie. Next we will describe swing designs that you can make yourself, in order of increasing complexity.

Garden swings are very popular in the country

The simplest swing familiar to most is the bungee. It is a strong stick tied to a tree with a rope (rope, chain). Making a bungee is extremely simple: select a strong stick about half a meter long (you can saw off part of the handle for a shovel, rake, etc.), tie a rope to its middle, the other end of which is attached to a thick tree branch. It is best to use so-called scaffold nodes - they tighten themselves and hold the load well. A child can make such a swing on his own. The bungee can be improved by taking a strong board instead of a stick, drilling it in the center and passing a rope through the hole, then securing it with a knot.

The simplest bungee can be made from a rope and a stick

Another projectile differs slightly from the bungee - the trapezoid. A trapezoid is the same stick, but the rope is tied to it not in the middle, but at both edges. The rope can be solid, but you can use two of the same length. If one solid rope is used, it can be secured to the branch with a regular loop (photo 1).

Helpful advice. It is better to choose a stick with significant reserve strength. Firstly, increased strength guarantees the safety of the swing, and secondly, then you can cut small grooves on the stick at the places where the ropes are attached so that they do not slip off - this also increases safety.

The cable rope can be fixed between two supports

The simplest swing

The simplest swing can also be hung on a thick branch, but it is better to make a crossbar with supports for this. The design of the supports will be described at the end of this article.

Simple rocker with soft seat

The seat is a square or rectangular board suspended at the four corners. You can use plywood. Not far from the corners, four holes are drilled in the seat, into which a rope or eyelet is passed (the eyelet has a ring instead of a head); if the eye is not used, then the rope can be passed through the hole and tied with a knot (its thickness should be equal to the diameter of the hole), thus securing the board to it. If an eyelet is used, then instead of a rope, a chain can be taken, which is attached to the eyelet with a carabiner.

A back made of the same plywood can be attached to the seat using metal corners. Another version of the back (suitable for small children) is shown in photo 2. Tubes made of wood up to 30-40 cm long (of the same length!) are put on the ropes, after which a stick-crossbar with drilled holes around the edges. This design, despite its ease of manufacture, is quite convenient, safe and will serve for a long time.

Note. Instead of putting on wooden tubes (not everyone can make them!), you can tie knots in ropes at an equal distance from the seat. Then the crossbars will be held in place by knots rather than tubes. It doesn’t look as aesthetically pleasing, but it’s easier to make.

Helpful advice. When making any wooden swing parts, you need to clean them with sandpaper or a file - this will protect your children from splinters and give the product a more aesthetic appearance. In order for the swing to serve for a long time, it must be coated with varnish or paint to protect it from moisture.

Swings made of wooden pallets (pallet)

A chain or rope is also attached to wooden pallets at four corners. The advantage of pallets is their large size and strength: on wide pallets it is convenient to swing while standing, or you can put a mattress and swing while lying down. Pallets can be connected to form large structures.

Seat swing out wooden pallets(pallet)

Tire swing

Car tires are quite durable, but cut well. The most primitive use of a tire is similar to a bungee: the tire is in vertical position tied to a branch with a rope, you can sit in such a swing. But such a seat is not very comfortable, and its appearance is not aesthetically pleasing. This is not yet a reason to refuse to use tires.

A swing made from a tire tied horizontally to three or four chains looks much better. Four or three holes are drilled in the tire at equal distances from each other, and an eye is inserted into each of them and secured with a nut. It is useful to place wide washers between the eye and the seat (and between the nut and the seat). The ropes (or chains) are brought together to rest at one point on a steel ring.

A strip cut from a tire is used instead of a board, as described above. In this case, “ears” are attached to the edges of the tire strip, which hold a rope or hook a carabiner to a chain.

Tires can be used to make various shapes for swings.

Fabric swing on a metal frame

The swing seat can be made of a metal frame with durable fabric stretched over it (for example, a tarpaulin). Instead of fabric, you can use rope weaving. An example is a hoop swing.

A hoop swing resembles a hammock: a wide and strong hoop is tied to three or four ropes, from which thin ropes go to the center, woven using the macrame technique into a kind of web. The weaving pattern can be different, the main idea is that the weaving can support the weight of your child. The hoop is usually wrapped in foam rubber and fabric, or braided with twine, so as not to injure the child in the event of a possible blow and for greater comfort. Instead of macrame, you can stretch a tarp over the hoop, as noted above.

Supports for swings. Attaching the swing to the supports

Supports (goats) are made of three bars, logs, boards or metal and have the shape of the letter A: their lower ends are placed in specially dug holes and buried or concreted. It is better to make the crossbar even for children's swings from a metal pipe. If there is no pipe, a beam is placed on the trestles - thick timber or rounded log. The structure must be strong and not wobble. Steel supports are assembled using welding, and wooden ones are connected with screws, anchors, self-tapping screws and metal corners.

If the seat is suspended from a metal crossbar, it is good to use rings - plastic, metal or wood. The latter can be carved from wood yourself. If you tie a rope to a tube without rings, the rope may fray. Then it is necessary to regularly check its strength. If there are rings, then it is better to lubricate the contact points between the rings and the crossbar.

If the swing is suspended from a log or beam, then rings are not needed: the rope will not slide along the tree due to strong friction. Both ropes and chains can also be attached to eyelets (or hooks) firmly screwed into a beam or log. Wooden structural elements must be varnished or painted to protect them from moisture.

Instead of a wooden crossbar with eyelets, you can use steel crossbars with rings welded to them. On wooden beam the frames can be replaced with clamps on which to hang carabiners. Chains can also be attached to vertical posts on anchors with wide washers. In this case, the beam is needed only to give the structure stability and rigidity.

Baby cots can be secured with chains

The chains can be attached not individually, but connected with rings: the left chains are attached to one, the right - to the other. Rings are also hung on carabiners to the eyelets, on hooks, clamps, or welded to a metal crossbar.

Children's swings on ropes are not so reliable

Let's look at two more types of swings.

Rocking chairs

A rocking chair can replace a child's swing. The advantages of a rocking chair include safety for the rocker (there is no risk of the rope breaking) and mobility (you can bring it into the house, you can take it outside); The disadvantages are the relative complexity of manufacturing and the fact that such a chair can crush the leg of someone standing next to it. Wooden rocking horses can be considered a type of rocking chair. The main difficulty in making a rocking chair is making rounded runners; for a children's rocking chair they can be cut out of thick plywood.

Rocking chairs are safe and suitable even for little ones

Rocking horse made of solid wood

To make runners, you need to draw their contours on a sheet of plywood and carefully cut them out with a jigsaw, then clean them with a file and sandpaper. A seat made of plywood or chipboard (plywood is stronger and lighter) is attached between the runners on metal corners. It is necessary to work very carefully so that the rocking chair does not turn out crooked.

A floor rocking chair for babies can also be made from thick cardboard

Balance swing (English: seesaw).

A balance swing is a long crossbar-board with seats at the ends. At least two people can swing on this swing. The simplest option The swing-balancer is done like this:

  1. A long (2.5 - 3 m) strong board or timber is selected, cleaned and sanded.
  2. Handles are screwed on each side about half a meter from the edge. To do this, a plank is attached to both sides of the beam, to which the crossbar is then attached (photo 5).
  3. Seats made of plywood or boards are screwed or nailed on both sides; it is advisable to attach cushions so that the seats are soft.
  4. A thick, strong pillar about a meter long is dug into the ground to a depth of half a meter (or concreted).
  5. A hinge is screwed or nailed to the middle of the beam, which is then attached to the buried post.

Another option is possible, when runners are cut out of thick plywood, as for a rocking chair, and attached to the middle of the beam. Then the swing becomes portable and can be used indoors.

Safety

When making a swing, remember: carelessness in work can result in injury. Be sure to choose strong chains and ropes, and check the stability of the structures. It is better to spend more time and money and make the swing stronger than necessary, than to become the culprit of a ruined vacation, or worse, a serious injury to your own child, due to an error in calculations.

Reading time ≈ 10 minutes

How nice it is to sit on a bench after a long day at work. And it’s even more pleasant to relax on garden swing, which will give light swaying and soothing coolness. Unfortunately, it is not always possible to buy such a design. After all, the cost of such swings is high, often exorbitant. Therefore, let's talk about how to build gardens to enjoy a pleasant stay in the fresh air.

Beautiful garden swing in the country

The undeniable advantages of garden swings. Varieties

At the dacha or in the yard country house garden swings are an indispensable attribute of landscape design. In addition to being a great place to relax, they serve many functions:

  1. resting on them, you will easily gather your strength;
  2. calm the nervous system;
  3. beautiful design helps transform the entire yard;
  4. a convenient place to work on a laptop or read books;
  5. You can nap on them during the day (especially for children);
  6. suitable for pleasant tea drinking and conversations with a glass of wine;
  7. Children are helped to train and develop the vestibular apparatus.

As you can see, the advantages are really huge. Therefore, it is logical that their popularity is so high among the population. The design, in fact, is not very complicated, so even a beginner in construction can build such a swing at home.

Another advantage own construction is full compliance with your desires. You can decorate or decorate it yourself, choose a special shape and size. The main thing is to follow the instructions during construction, then everything will definitely work out.

Before you start making a garden swing, you need to consider what they are. For example, for purpose:

  • for children;
  • for adults;
  • for the whole family.

Depending on the location there are:

  • stationary swing;
  • mobile swing. They are convenient because you don’t need to be tied to a specific place. You can easily and quickly move it to another area.

If we talk about the main materials used, the swings are:

  • made of wood;
  • made of metal.

The design can also be very different.

Hanging.

This option is simple. All you need to create such a swing is a crossbar, a high-strength rope and a seat (it is better to choose one with a backrest).

Hanging garden swing

Frame.

Often used for children. They are strong and stable and easy to move. So at any time you can move the swing to the shade or another place you like.

Frame garden swing

Crafting on a tree requires crafting a seat. Everything else is as simple as shelling pears. After all, making a frame in in this case no need. After constructing the structure, it must be secured to a tree (make sure the branch you use is strong) or a beam. For fastening, a cross lay rope with a diameter of at least 24 mm is suitable (especially for swings on which children will ride).

You can replace the rope with a chain suspension. This will make the entire structure much stronger. To prevent the chain links from harming children (fingers can get caught in the links), you need to place it in a suitable size plastic pipe. As an option, you can take a chain canopy with a small caliber. It is worth noting that to install a frame garden swing, you should choose the right place on the site, avoiding trees and various types of fences.

Choosing the right support

A support for a swing is not just a structural element, but its main component. The safety of being on the swing and permissible value rocking. Most often, the material used to make the support is wooden beams, metal pipes and corners. For a summer house, a support in the shape of the letter A is often sufficient. For this, a frame is built from two supporting elements. They are connected to each other by a transverse beam, which is installed horizontally. Its placement occurs at the level of one third of the column above ground level.

The crossbar itself, on which the seat is then hung, must be mounted to the racks, which are located vertically. Use bolts for fastening.

Important: metal swing must be fixed in the soil. Because in the process of swinging, the “leg” of the pipes becomes loose and turns out of the ground. To prevent this, support frames are created. As an alternative, concreting can be done in the trench.

But to secure the wooden structure more firmly, you need to bury the “legs” of the garden swing to a considerable depth (at least one meter). You can also fill it with concrete mortar. But before concreting it is necessary to carry out preparatory work. Apply to the support bitumen mastic so that the “legs” are well soaked. This will protect the wood from rotting processes. Bricks are laid at the bottom of the pit.

Construction of a children's garden swing

The process of building a swing for children is similar to the construction of an adult version. Need detailed diagram structures, drawing dimensions and locations of elements for fastening. When using drawings for adults, be sure to optimize it for children.

  1. It is necessary to make racks. They must be the same size.
  2. The racks are installed at a distance that directly depends on the width of the future seat.
  3. Both supports should be connected with a crossbar.
  4. Particular attention should be paid to the reliability of connections. To do this, you need to measure as accurately as possible the angle at which the elements of the racks, which are located vertically, will connect.
  5. You also need to ensure that the crossbar itself is equally distant from the ground level.
  6. Before installation, you need to dig a trench. A special cushion of crushed stone is created in it. Supports are also installed there. After installation, everything is filled with concrete.
  7. The entire structure is polished; the corners also need to be rounded. This is necessary in order to make the swing safe for children.

Children's swing

Your dacha will sparkle with new colors when such a swing made by on our own. It is not only useful, but also incredibly beautiful.

Fastening system

Exist various systems fastenings for garden swings, namely:

  • carbine - made from the following types: with rectangular cross-section(designed for beams) and with round(for bars);
  • anchor - type of fastening passes through;
  • staples and hooks - intended for children's models;
  • clamps – needed for fixation in case of hanging the swing on cables.

Therefore, carefully study the features of each system. After all right choice fasteners allows you to make the swing not only durable, but also reliable.

Rope swing

The most classic models are rope and log swings. This option is considered the easiest to manufacture. To implement such an idea, you will only need to make four holes. Use a wide log as a base. You need to thread a rope into the holes made.

Rope garden swing

Using the same ropes, you need to put on the seat board. But you need to be careful. This option is not entirely sustainable. To prevent the seat from flipping over, make four holes on the side and thread ropes through them.

The ends of the rope must be tightened well and tied with strong knots. And the swing is ready to use.

  • a simple swing on two ropes is the most simple design.. Sitting board suspended on two points;
  • swing-sofa on four ropes - the most common type country swing. They are a bench with a back, suspended from four corners.

Swings can also be divided into stationary and portable. In the second option, the swing can be put away indoors for the winter and moved around the site at your discretion.

Material for production

The following materials are used for hanging components:

  • rope;
  • rope (rope for mountaineering);
  • steel rope;
  • chain with a small link;
  • steel rod;
  • steel pipe.

To make a seat you can use:

  • wood - boards, plywood;
  • wood placed on metal corners;
  • metal - rod, strips;
  • plastic – for child seats.

Swing supports

A simple swing can be hung almost anywhere. Most often, a strong branch is chosen. You can also fit a crossbar between two trees.

For a swing-sofa you will need strong supports. They can be:

  • wooden - two supports crosswise;
  • metal - two supports dug into the ground or square with a frame below;
  • metal - one pillar at a time, reinforced with a concrete screed.

How to make a simple swing at the dacha

The simplest option, which is perfect for children, is a simple wooden swing. If there is no rest area suitable trees, you can build supports from four logs. We bury the ends of the support into the ground to a depth of about 70 cm, and connect them together at the top with a pin or bolts and washers. Please note that the angle between the posts must be quite large for the structure to be stable. The fifth log will serve as the top crossbar; we also fasten it with bolts. Using fasteners sold in any hardware store, attach a rope (strong cord, metal cable) to the crossbar. We make the seat from a board 30-50 mm thick and attach the cord using hooks. The cord can be tied or special clips can be used. You can hang such a swing on four ropes. In this case, the cable is threaded into a hook or ring at the top so that it does not slip; under the ring it is intercepted with a clamp.

You can hang such a swing on four ropes.

Wooden beam option

To make such a swing you will need a wooden beam and slats. Timber supports can withstand a load of about 150 kg

A wooden beam measuring 10x10 cm will increase the strength of the swing, but will make the structure heavier. It is better to use material with a section size of 5x10 cm.

We assemble a support from the beams, starting from the lower frame. We calculate its dimensions by adding 40-50 cm to the seat dimensions. They are attached to the frame vertical bars, forming a triangle. The structure is secured at the top by a vertical crossbar. All main fasteners are made using metal corners and self-tapping screws. For reliability, we attach another horizontal beam between the two posts on one side.

We make the bench, starting with the frame. Separately from the bars we make a frame for the back and for the seat. We screw the material from which we planned to make the swing onto the frames. It can be a board, slats or plywood.

The structure is secured at the top by a vertical crossbar.

We connect the finished back and seat together using metal corners. Before this, we determine a comfortable seat angle, on average it will be about 120 degrees.

We make the armrests for the bench from slats and also fasten them with self-tapping screws.

We hang the swing from the top crossbar with a chain or metal cable. Metal brackets or hooks are used as fasteners; we use them to secure the chain on the back and on the seat of the swing.

The swing for the dacha is ready. The height of the swing is adjusted so that the feet of the person sitting on it reach the ground. This design can be moved quite easily. When standing on the ground bottom beam must be treated with a protective solution.

Swing for a summer house made of metal

Such swings are more durable; depending on the design, they are designed for a weight of 300 kg or more, but they will be stationary. To make it you need to have the skill welding work. If desired, small swings of this type can be made mobile by expanding the distance between the lower ends of the supports and welding the base frame onto them.

For racks, choose one of the following materials:

  • steel pipe with a diameter of at least 5 cm;
  • metal channel or profile;
  • steel corner.

Using welding, we connect the pipe, starting from the base of the structure. We get a rectangle, place two triangles vertically on it, and connect it at the top with a horizontal crossbar. The cutting angle of the pipe at the upper junction of the sides of the triangle is 45 degrees. On top bar We weld hinges from reinforcement.

For manufacturing, you must have welding skills.

The support design option is without the lower rectangle. In this case, the racks must be buried 1 meter into the ground; if the swing is planned to be heavy, make a concrete screed.

The base for the back and seat is made from metal corner. We make two rectangles out of it, connecting them to each other at an angle of at least 100 degrees.

We weld hinges in the corners for hanging. We coat all metal parts with primer and paint. oil paint. Place on the finished base wooden board, for convenience, it can be sheathed on top soft material or linoleum.

We cover all metal parts with a primer and paint with oil paint.

Choosing a place to install a swing requires special attention. There should be enough space when swinging the swing. It is better to choose a shaded place; if you plan to build a gazebo, a swing can be installed inside it. Wooden crafts must be protected from moisture and precipitation. This can be done by treating the wood with special solutions, or if the design of the swing allows, painting it with paint.

A swing made by yourself will give your dacha a unique flavor and create an atmosphere of love and comfort. Enjoy your holiday!
