Every person strives to make their home stylish, cozy and unique. Companies involved in the production of building materials are well aware of such desires and meet their customers halfway. It is for this reason that construction market More and more new types of materials, coatings, etc. are constantly appearing.

For finishing ceilings, which undoubtedly play a huge role in creating the interior of a room, there is simply a fantastic number of different coating options, and one of the most stylish and unusual is the slatted ceiling.

As the name implies, this is a ceiling covering consisting of slats, but we will now find out what these slats are made of and what advantages this option has.

Reiki for of this type ceilings are made of thin sheet aluminum about 0.5 mm thick. Great quality of this material allows the use of slatted ceilings in rooms with high humidity and special dampness: kitchens, bathrooms, showers, swimming pools, etc., because they are absolutely not susceptible to corrosion.

In addition, aluminum is very easy to clean, which is especially important for the kitchen. And finally, the aluminum slatted ceiling, as the manufacturers of these coatings say, should last about 20 years, and this is quite long term, compared to other ceiling finishing options.

Aluminum slats, which make up the decorative part of the ceiling, can be of any length, but the width is limited to 25 centimeters. In general, slats for this type of ceiling covering are made in widths of 9, 15, 25 cm.

The design of a slatted suspended ceiling is a set of several parts. Among them:

  1. Decorative slats, the number of which depends on the area of the room.
  2. Tire.
  3. Suspension

In principle, assembling a slatted ceiling is quite simple; you can do it yourself, but it is better to entrust this work to professionals, since unskilled installation risks damaging the aluminum decorative slats.

Moreover, correct any dents, distortions, etc. that have appeared. is no longer possible. In addition, the insertion of lamps into the slats themselves is a rather delicate work, during which it is even easier to damage the product.

A metal slatted ceiling is modern, practical and durable. Therefore, by installing this coating in your home, you can be sure that you will not have to worry about ceiling repairs for the next 20 years.

P.S. And for dessert, I suggest you watch the video: Slatted ceiling

Slatted ceilings are one of the types of suspended ceilings. Due to their quality and durability, they have become a very popular type of ceiling covering in our apartments. The slatted ceiling system is a set of slats up to 3-4 meters long and 8.5 cm wide and suspension system, including load-bearing tires and suspensions.

Basically, of course, such ceiling systems are installed in public spaces, such as hospitals and clinics, restaurants, swimming pools, but due to their good resistance to moisture, they are often used to install ceiling coverings in bathrooms, kitchens, corridors and toilets of apartments.

Elements slatted ceilings are made from moisture-resistant and stainless material As a rule, aluminum tape is used for these purposes. Thanks to this, river ceilings are easy to clean.

On modern market finishing materials there is a huge selection of slatted ceilings of the most different manufacturers. The presented models differ in the shape and size of the slats and panels, as well as the overall color scheme.
In general, river ceilings are available in three types:
- ceilings with open slats. The slats are attached with unnoticeable free spaces between them;
- ceilings with closed rivers. The slats are attached close to each other;
- ceilings with inserts between the slats. Aluminum inserts are fixed in the open spaces between the slats.

Advantages of slatted ceilings

The advantages of slatted ceilings include the simplicity and speed of installation of the ceiling covering, the ability to hide ceiling errors behind the slatted structure: cracks, potholes, unevenness. Also, any suspended ceiling system makes it convenient to lay electrical communications, hiding the electrical wiring stretched above it.

One of the advantages of slatted ceilings is that it typesetting system, that is, to really get unique design You can combine the colors of the ceiling panels as you like. At the same time, it is important to take care in advance of purchasing the necessary elements from the same manufacturer and in the same store. Good specialized stores, as a rule, offer their services for fitting slats to special machine to the size you planned.
Modern manufacturers produce slatted ceiling systems in a variety of colors; if desired, you can also purchase a mirror ceiling.

In addition to the varied color range allowing you to create an attractive appearance ceiling, fit it beautifully into the interior of the apartment; along with the ceiling system, you can purchase lamps of various shapes.

Slatted ceilings with lighting system

When installing lamps or chandeliers on a ceiling system, it is advisable to choose a slatted ceiling with thicker slats. On the modern market, the most common models are those with a rail thickness of 0.33-0.5 mm; this is quite enough for reasonable placement of both built-in and pendant lamps and chandeliers. Slats made from thinner strips of aluminum may warp.

It is also advisable to buy lamps for the slatted ceiling together with the ceiling covering, in this case, the recommendations of the sales consultant will help to avoid difficulties during their installation due to possible differences in the fastening system.

Summarize

When planning the purchase and installation of a river ceiling, you should remember that any suspended ceiling systems reduce the height of the room by about 5-15 cm, and therefore they are recommended to be installed only in rooms with high ceilings.

Thus, if we take into account all the nuances associated with the selection, purchase and installation of rack ceiling system, you can create a truly unique and aesthetically attractive appearance of the ceiling, which will not only easily fit into the interior of any room in the apartment, but will also organically complement it.

It is impossible not to notice that today the popularity of slatted suspended ceilings has increased and they are increasingly used for renovations in apartments. And it’s quite possible to assemble a slatted ceiling with your own hands.

DIY slatted ceiling

However, the secret of this recognition is quite simple: slatted ceilings are easy to install and have all the properties necessary for a living space: fireproof, moisture resistant, environmentally friendly, improve sound insulation and allow you to get into the ceiling space at any time you need if you need something urgently there will need, have light weight, comply with GOST.

Such ceilings can often be seen in public buildings, in hospitals, shopping centers. In a residential apartment, this type of suspended ceiling is especially suitable for rooms with unfavorable conditions, where high humidity and frequent temperature changes - kitchen and bathroom.

Although, it will look no less successful in the hallway, corridor, balcony or bathroom. Under the slatted ceiling you can hide ceiling imperfections, electrical wiring, air conditioners and even exhaust systems. Also, perforated ceilings will provide good ventilation.

Fortunately, installing a slatted ceiling does not require professional repair skills and can be done by almost anyone with at least a little experience. However, if you are not confident in your abilities, then you should call experts in their field.

Remember that your ceiling should not fall on your head at the most inopportune moment and should look stylish and aesthetically pleasing.

As for manufacturing companies, today you can find a great variety of them on the construction market. All you have to do is do right choice among wide choice ceilings produced in different countries.

For your attention these trade marks like the Russians Albes, Lumsvet and Bard, the Americans Ceiling Group USA Corporation, the Dutch Luxalon, the Germans Geipel and others.

Lamps for slatted ceilings

It's no secret that during the installation process suspended ceiling You will definitely need lamps for slatted ceilings. WITH rack structures LED spotlights are most often used.

However, among spotlights there are different types depending on what kind of lamps they use, so you will have to choose the model that suits you best. In addition, lamps can be fixed or rotating.

So, there are three main types - incandescent lamps, halogen lamps and LED bulbs. There are also raster lamps, but they are better suited for large premises such as offices and sales areas, due to their rather large size and characteristics.

Incandescent lamps

They are somewhat larger in size, so you will have to take this into account when calculating the level of the suspended slatted ceiling. If you don't want to reduce the ceiling height too much, then you might want to skip this list item.

However, despite their relatively low cost, they still have a number of other disadvantages. For example, they are characterized by high energy consumption, and their resource often lasts no more than 2 years.

Halogen lamps

This is a more advantageous option compared to the point above. Halogen lamps consume 3 times less energy, and their service life reaches ten years (though only from certified manufacturers). Another plus is that you don’t have to lower the ceiling too much (they only take up 3-5 cm from the suspended ceiling to the ceiling). There will be no difficulties in installation with them.

LED bulbs

The third point of our program is LED lights. Today they can be called the most convenient and economical option spotlights for suspended ceilings.

LED lamps are resistant to mechanical stress and have high efficiency. Such lamps can be safely installed in rooms with unfavorable environment(high humidity or temperature). Although they are more expensive compared to their predecessors, they earn their price.

How to choose a slatted ceiling

Let's find out how to choose a slatted ceiling. Let's start with the fact that slatted ceilings come in several types.

Slat ceilings closed type. In such ceilings there are gaps between the slats, the recesses of which are filled with a material identical in color to the main ceiling fabric. Such ceilings come without inserts.

Ceilings open type. Here, too, there are gaps between the panels, into which the traverses can be seen. And in order not to spoil the aesthetics, these gaps can be closed with special inserts. Decorative inserts can be different colors, which allows you to revive the ceiling design and adjust it to general style premises.

And the last type is gapless ceilings. Here the design allows the slats to be adjusted as close to each other as possible. True, small gaps of a couple of millimeters still remain. However, they do not spoil the view, because their depth is insignificant.

If the installation of open and closed type ceilings is no different, then with gapless ceilings the situation is somewhat different. Here special traverses with small protrusions are used to secure the slats to them.

Calculation of rack ceiling

Let's move on to no less important issue calculation of slatted ceiling. We need to know how much materials will be needed for installation. Below are instructions for you.

First we need to find out the perimeter of the ceiling, for which we measure its length and width. After this, we multiply the sum of the length and width by two, as it tells us school course mathematics. Let, for example, the width of the ceiling be 5 m, and its length 3 m. Our perimeter will be (5 + 3) x 2 = 16 m. We will need this to calculate the length of the U-shaped profile we need.

Now let's calculate total area ceiling. As the math book tells us again, to do this we multiply the length by the width. 5x3=15 sq. m.

The standard size of an open slats is 3 meters long and 10 cm wide. The area of one slats will thus be 3x0.10=0.3 sq.m.

How many slats will we need in the end? Divide the ceiling area by the area of the slats: 15:0.3 = 50 slats.

However, do not forget that this number of slats is the minimum that you will need if there is no waste. But the latter rarely happens in reality, and the consumption will be higher than this minimum, so it’s worth adding 5-8 slats to the result obtained for insurance. It is unlikely that you will want to sculpt a ceiling from pieces.

One more thing. If you use closed slats, then the calculation should be made minus the width of the slats that will be used for connection. And the slats are installed either end to end or with gaps from a couple of millimeters to a couple of centimeters. So take these details into account as well.

Now we calculate the total length of the stringers (carrying combs). We will mark the ceiling perpendicular to the selected direction of the panels, in increments of up to 1 meter.

The calculations have been made, it's time to purchase materials. You can collect everything necessary elements for a suspended ceiling yourself. Or you can buy it already ready-made kits. They usually include the panels themselves, interpanel profiles, end profiles, and stringers. The kit includes installation instructions.

The structure of the slatted ceiling structure and the necessary tools for installation

Let's look at what the structure of the slatted ceiling actually consists of. It includes slatted panels different sizes(steel, plastic or aluminum tapes up to 6 m long, 0.4-0.7 mm thick and 5-30 cm wide) and a hanging fastening system. If everything is generally clear with the former, then the latter consists of several components:

  • adjustable suspension;
  • support rail (comb, stringer, traverse) made of galvanized steel with grooves for fixing panels;
  • corner profile.

What do we need for installation?

  1. Building level.
  2. Marker, ruler, tape measure.
  3. Drill, hammer drill, screwdriver.
  4. Knife, screws, dowels, metal scissors.
  5. Slat ceiling details.

Installation of aluminum slatted ceiling

Let's start installing the aluminum slatted ceiling. We have already studied it above specifications and device.

Photo 10 - Installation of slatted ceiling

Photo 11 - Installation of slatted ceiling

First, let's mark the level at which we are going to mount the ceiling. Depending on the needs and communications located under the ceiling, it can be lowered 5-15 cm from the main one. Once you have marked the ceiling level using building level, mark it with painter's cord.

Along this line we will fix the wall profile around the perimeter of the room: we will hammer in the dowels at a distance of 50-60 cm from each other. On internal corners the profile needs to be fastened joint to joint, and on the outside they are cut at an angle of 45 degrees.

Now we will mark and secure the supporting rails. Mark the marks with a tape measure. We will place the first one at a distance of 30-40 cm from the wall, the subsequent ones - up to a meter. Cut the tire to the required length using metal scissors. She must retreat from corner profile by 1 cm. Having attached the bus to the ceiling, we will place marks for fastening 30 cm from the beginning and end of the wall. The number of marks between the outer ones will depend on the width of the room. The distance between them is 1.2-1.5 m.

In the designated places we drill holes for the dowels, and then secure them with self-tapping screws. Note that support rails (guides) can be mounted both on the main ceiling and on adjustable suspensions. The latter have special brackets for attaching tires.

The only thing left for us to do is install the slats. Remember that the length of the panel should be 0.5 cm less than the distance between opposite walls. Take the rail, place it at an angle to the wall profile and carefully snap it into place with a latch. We fix the second panel nearby. We place the next one against the opposite wall. And so on until the last rail. If the latter does not fit in width, it can be cut to the desired size.

By the way, if you didn’t know, there is also an imitation of a slatted aluminum ceiling. This is a ceiling made of PVC panels. Such panels, made of plastic, are cheaper and lighter than their slatted counterparts.

Photo 12 - Plastic slatted ceiling

Like others suspended structures, the slatted ceiling can be made two-level if desired. Sometimes they do this to hide communications, but not to lower the entire ceiling.

More expensive, but also more nice option slatted ceiling - wooden. This ceiling will look especially good in country houses.

Photo 14 - Wooden slatted ceiling

As for the colors and coatings of the slatted ceiling, there are a great variety of them. Slatted ceilings come in black, white, mirror, gold, chrome, glossy, matte, with colored decorative inserts and without.

Aluminum slatted ceiling

Aluminum slatted ceiling is made from aluminum alloy 3005, 3003 and 5052 with special protective coating. It has many advantages.

  • resistance to high humidity;
  • the ceiling does not require preliminary finishing;
  • easy to install and create several levels;
  • combined with spotlights and chandeliers;
  • wide range of design solutions;
  • ease of care;
  • they are durable.

Aluminum slatted ceilings can be found from manufacturers such as Bard, Lumsvet, Geipel.

$ Price of aluminum slatted ceiling

In Moscow, the price for 1 square meter of slatted aluminum ceiling starts from 500 rubles. In Kyiv, slats can be bought from 50 UAH per piece.

Mirror slatted ceiling

Mirror slatted ceiling - original design solution. Most often it is installed in rooms with high humidity, for example, in a bathroom or toilet. Thanks to its characteristics, it does not rust and is easy to clean. It is also convenient to use in the kitchen, where dirt and grease accumulate on the ceiling.

$ Price of mirrored slatted ceiling

In Ukraine the price per sq.m. mirror ceiling will cost approximately 350 UAH. In Russia about 1400.00 rubles. per sq.m.

Rack plastic ceiling

Rack and pinion plastic ceiling, unlike aluminum slats, is mounted mainly on wooden frame. Such ceilings (imitation slatted ceilings) are usually cheaper and lighter than metal ones. Plastic slats can be mounted not only on the ceiling, but also on the walls. They are more resistant to deformation.

Metal slatted ceiling

Metal slatted ceiling is a very common aluminum ceiling in the form of a combination of slats and decorative inserts. Their main quality is ease of care. Such ceilings can be washed under running water and then dried with a soft cloth. If your upstairs neighbors suddenly flood you, all you have to do is remove the slats, pour out the water, wash and wipe the profiles with a damp sponge. They are resistant to temperature changes, fire resistant, environmentally friendly, and easy to install.

$ Slat ceiling. Price

Thanks to the Internet, it is very easy to find out how much a slatted ceiling costs without leaving your home. And through online stores - and buy immediately. However, it is always better to select the material on site to ensure quality and choose the right package.

The cost of a slatted ceiling varies depending on the parameters and color scheme.

In Moscow – from 43 to 110 rubles per 1m/pg.

In Kyiv – from 60 to 270 UAH – price per m2.

In sets, the cost of a slatted ceiling in Russia will range from 1.5 to 4 thousand rubles. Packaging of slats can be purchased from 160 rubles per piece.

In Ukraine, a set of slatted ceilings will cost from 240-300 UAH.

- a rather complicated procedure, but if you follow the instructions and approach the matter with all seriousness, then everything will certainly work out. Much depends on geometric shape premises - if the room is rectangular, then there should be no problems with installation at all.

For the first time, aluminum slatted ceilings appeared in Russia at the end of the last century, that is, around the time Russians learned about “European-quality renovation.” The first ceilings were made in Germany and, of course, were quite expensive.

Despite this, the demand for them increased and many craftsmen, who appreciated all the advantages of the design, began to widely use it when renovating a kitchen or bathroom.

Note! Modern (mostly white) models are equipped with decorative inserts, which allow not only to ennoble the room, but also not to disturb the interior design.

Design Features

The slats are attached to a steel traverse - a toothed profile. There are several types of slats and each has its own traverses. It is important that both are from the same manufacturer - this way there will be no gaps or cracks left after installation.

The ceiling is installed after plastering the room and installing the windows. If electrical cables were laid along the ceiling, they must be secured so that they do not interfere with work.

Stage 1. Measurements

You need to start with measurements. If for any reason you doubt yourself, then it is better to entrust this to a professional measurer. His work will cost about 500 rubles.

Stage 2. Buying everything you need

The work will require the following tools:

  • metal scissors;
  • building level;
  • roulette;
  • screwdriver;
  • electric drill;
  • laser level.

In addition, for installation you will need a number of materials:

  • panels;
  • screws;
  • guides;
  • dowels;
  • traverses;
  • pendants.

The key points when choosing panels (slats) are dimensions.

  1. Width products range between 10 cm and 20 cm, but it is better to buy 10 cm slats - they are the most popular.
  2. Length can be 3 m or 4 m. If none of the options is suitable, then it is worth finding a company that provides the services of a machine for cutting panels.
  3. From thickness The reliability of the entire structure directly depends on the slats. The best option– ½ mm, at which the strength of the ceiling will be high and the cost will be acceptable.

  1. Closed slats vaguely resemble wooden lining.
  2. Open slats can only be installed in rooms with a height of more than 5 m, so such products are unlikely to be suitable for a bathroom or kitchen. Installed with a small gap - no more than 1 cm.
  3. Products with inserts are the same open, but there are gaps in in this case disguised with decorative aluminum strips.

The color of the slatted ceiling depends on the taste of the owner and the design of the room.

Note! Used to repaint the ceiling a different color enamel paint– one layer will be enough. To make the ceiling mirror, you need to buy chrome aluminum slats.

It is typical that slats should be sold in a special protective film. You should not buy products that do not have this film.

Stage 3. Cost calculation

The price of the slatted ceiling includes the following components:

  • traverses (or tires, as they are also called) - gear strips to which, as mentioned earlier, panels are attached;
  • the plinth is used purely for decorative purposes - it closes the resulting gap between the ceiling and the wall;
  • suspension - ordinary steel wire fixed to the ceiling; Traverses are attached to the suspensions, which is why the slatted ceiling is called suspended;
  • lamps - you should take care of them in advance, because after installing the ceiling they will be difficult to install.

Stage 4. Installation

Step 1. You need to install guides (stringers) on each wall. The location of the future ceiling is indicated - it drops about 20 cm relative to the old one. The line must be strictly horizontal, so when marking, you can use a laser level. Profiles will be attached along this line.

Step 2. The profiles need to be attached to the line, and holes must be made in the appropriate places. Dowels are driven in there and screws are screwed in. As a result, the profile is attached to the wall every half meter, horizontality is checked using the mounting level.

Note! In the corners, the guides are connected as shown in the image.

Step 3. Upon completion of installation of the perimeter, hangers are installed. The distance between them should not exceed 1 m. The hangers are fastened with screws and dowels, after which they are checked with a level.

Step 4. Traverses are attached to the hangers. In this case, you need to ensure that the traverses are flush with the guides at an angle of 90ᵒ to the slats. The structure must be level, because this affects the appearance of the future ceiling.

If the traverses are too short, they can be extended by connecting two adjacent products end-to-end. Once the installation of the traverses is complete, the assembly of the ceiling itself begins.

Step 5. The slats are cleaned of the protective film and cut to fit the size of the room. Then the slats are inserted into the guides along the entire perimeter, after which the crossbars snap into place. As a result, such a surface should emerge.

It is worth noting that many are afraid not of the installation of the slatted ceiling itself, but of its repair. For this reason, when assembling, you need to try not to deform the slats (and they, by the way, are quite easily deformed). If any damage does occur, it is better to replace the entire panel.

Mirror ceiling made of aluminum slats

This ceiling consists of the same slats coated with a special reflective substance (often chrome). In addition to aesthetics, mirrored ceilings have the following advantages:

  • ease of care;
  • the illusion of increased space, which is especially important in small apartments;
  • a wide range of textures and shades;
  • no difficulties when installing lamps.

Having familiarized yourself with the main advantages, you can get to work.

Stage 1. Preparation

At the time of buying mirror slats Special attention need to pay attention to details. Quality products are covered with special protective layer, preventing the formation of cracks, scratches and other damage. In addition to the slats themselves, the work will require:

  • skirting boards;
  • guides;
  • pendants;
  • tires.

Here is a list of necessary equipment:

  • mounting level;
  • dowels;
  • electric drill;
  • perforator;
  • hacksaw for metal;
  • cord;
  • self-tapping screws

Stage 2. Marking

There is no need to specially prepare the ceiling surface before installation, but if the finishing material comes off, it is better to get rid of it.

A horizontal line is drawn along the entire perimeter (approximately 20 cm below the existing ceiling). If you plan to install Spotlights, then the wiring is laid.

Stage 3. Frame assembly

Step 1. Using the markings made, guides for the ceiling are installed. Fastening is carried out in the same way as when installing a conventional slatted ceiling.

Step 2. Stringers are inserted into the guides, and hangers are attached above them.

Note! For suspensions it is advisable to use clamping mechanisms, because they are easily adjusted if necessary.

Step 3. The stringers are connected flush with the hangers. To do this, you can pull the cord diagonally.

Stage 4. Ceiling assembly

When assembling a mirror ceiling, do not remove protective film. Sections of the required length (approximately 3 mm less than the distance between the walls) are cut directly into the film.

Note! Only the edges of the slats are cleaned.

Otherwise, the technology for installing the mirror structure is no different from that described above.

As a conclusion

Modern slatted ceilings are distinguished by their reliability and aesthetics, and recently they are increasingly used exclusively for decoration. Aluminum slats are very popular because they are not subject to corrosion and do not burn, so they can be installed in rooms with high fire safety requirements.

Finally - one more useful advice. Before buying a ceiling, you need to think about whether it is advisable to lose 20 cm for it free space. Perhaps the height is already small, and a slatted ceiling (if it is not mirrored) will reduce it not only visually, but also physically.

But still suspended ceiling has a lot positive qualities, therefore, in most cases such minor shortcomings are not paid attention to.

A beautiful slatted ceiling that is resistant to indoor humidity is a variety panel structures, consisting of a frame covered with slats made of plastic or aluminum. Simple and fast installation, various options design and lighting are far from full list all the advantages of a slatted ceiling. How to choose a material for finishing a bathroom, what types of panels there are and a guide to repair work– about all this in order.

Why is a slatted ceiling optimal for a bathroom?

Ceilings in “damp” rooms without proper ventilation are susceptible to the formation of mold and mildew due to the difficulty of cleaning the ceiling, which is incorrectly selected finishing material, which would not rust (for metal surfaces) or peel off (in cases with plaster or layers of paint).

The correct choice of material from which the ceiling will be made will ensure long term indoor surface services. Moving forward the following requirements to the material for the ceiling in the bathroom:

  • easy washing process;
  • ability to absorb sound and reflect light;
  • fire safety;
  • ecological finishing.

Now let's look at the advantages of a slatted ceiling:

  1. relatively inexpensive cost of material and labor;
  2. alternative design solutions;
  3. no need for major preparatory work;
  4. output of communications beyond the casing;
  5. availability self-installation and dismantling;
  6. avoiding the so-called “wet” work related to plastering;
  7. after installing the slatted ceiling, the room is immediately ready for use;
  8. easy cleaning with a sponge and soapy water;
  9. The service life of the panels is 20 years and above.

Types of slats

The material for the slats can be plastic or aluminum, so in order to install a slatted ceiling that best suits a specific room, let’s characterize each type separately in the table.

Material for slats pros Minuses
Plastic
  • Inexpensive cost;
  • easy work with the material due to its flexibility, easy to cut the bar yourself, simple installation;
  • steam stains practically do not form on it;
  • washes quickly.
  • The decor looks cheap;
  • plastic is a fragile material, which affects the characteristics of transportation and storage;
  • flammable and non-flammable;
  • low-quality plastic quickly fades and changes shape, and good material difficult to find.
Aluminum
  • Durable, durable, fireproof;
  • the reflection coefficient is greater than that of plastic;
  • a wide selection of textures: gloss, mirror, gold or silver;
  • possibility of installing multi-level ceilings with complex shapes.
  • High price;
  • labor-intensive installation of planks;
  • water or steam stains are more noticeable;
  • Frequent surface cleaning.

Both types of slats are attached in an identical way using a jigsaw (cutting strips) and a drill (for drilling holes for spotlights). But, if your renovation budget allows you to purchase better and more durable panels, then we advise you to prefer a slatted ceiling made of aluminum material.

Ceiling slats vary in panel shape, texture, color and dimensions. The maximum length of the slats is 6 m, but this is not the limit, since the sections are built up. The width of the stripes ranges from 5 to 30 cm, but wide panels do not always look aesthetically pleasing, so they are often standard width 15 cm.

Aluminum slats are produced with a thickness of 0.3-0.6 mm, respectively, the thicker, the stronger. Golden mean– 0.5 mm. Plastic panels the inside resembles a honeycomb, and their standard thickness is up to 1 cm. Two types of slats are used for the bathroom: closed (based on the lining principle) and with inserts that fill the gaps between the slats for reliable tightness.

Work order

To make a slatted ceiling you will need: a level, a hammer drill or drill with an attachment for lamps, a jigsaw, and a screwdriver. At major renovation in the bathroom, start with the ceiling, then line the walls and proceed to floor covering. There is no need to immediately make a ceiling by hanging slats. It is enough to make a frame, installing all the wiring and other communications, and upon completion of the renovation in the bathroom, fix the slats.

Installation work proceeds in the following order:

  1. Perimeter detection and marking for precise installation end profile using a water or laser level.
  2. We install the profile by driving dowels into the wall every 50 cm.
  3. We attach hangers that will evenly distribute the load of the ceiling, at a distance of 1 m, not forgetting to install the hangers in the place under the lamps.
  4. Stringers (supporting tires) are fixed to the hangers.
  5. We hang slats over the tires, having previously marked the places for the lamps, since they should be placed in the center of the slats, otherwise installation will be more difficult and the entire structure less airtight.

For long-lasting lighting, use halogen or energy-saving light bulbs. If necessary, the slatted ceiling can be disassembled.
