What is Wi-Fi authentication error on Android and how to fix it. Why WiFi won't connect It says Saved, Protected Connection

Before you begin to find out why Wi-Fi or the Internet does not work, you should know (especially for those who have just purchased a Wi-Fi router) that it is not enough to just connect the provider cable to the router, you also need to configure it (set up the Internet and Wi-Fi network ). All of the methods described below are valid if Wi-Fi and the Internet were working for you before, and then suddenly stopped or you cannot connect a new device to Wi-Fi. For convenience, I divided the article into two parts, the first is devoted to the inability to connect to a wireless network, the second part will answer your questions if you are connected to a Wi-Fi network but there is no Internet.

Cannot connect to Wi-Fi network.

Reboot the router.

The first thing you need to do if you have problems connecting to a Wi-Fi network is to restart the router. To do this, simply disconnect the power supply from the router and connect it again after a few seconds. After 1-2 minutes. The device will boot, then try connecting to the wireless network again. To avoid such situations in the future, I recommend updating the router firmware (perhaps the manufacturer knows about the problem and fixed it in the new firmware).

Enabling the Wi-Fi module on the laptop.

Check if Wi-Fi is turned on on your laptop, I won’t worry, I described all the ways to turn on Wi-Fi in the article How to turn on Wi-Fi on a laptop .

Change the wireless network mode.

If you are trying to connect a device (laptop, smartphone) that is more than 5-7 years old, please note that it may not support modern regime Wi-Fi work -n. Therefore, you need to switch the router to an operating mode that is supported by the device or enable mixed mode b/g/n. More details about Wi-Fi operating modes are described. In order to switch the wireless network mode, you need to go to the router’s web interface, go to the Wi-Fi settings and select the appropriate mode.

Removing a duplicate network SSID.

One of possible problems Inability to connect to Wi-Fi is a duplication of the Wi-Fi network (SSID). Suppose you come to your friends, their Wi-Fi network is called “Home”, you successfully connected to it. Time passed and you came across the same network name with other friends or at home. The laptop (this also applies to tablets and smartphones) tries to connect to the network using the previously saved password, but it fails because a new password is used for this name. To solve this problem, you need to remove the matching network from the list of saved Wi-Fi networks.

To do this, right-click on network icon in the lower right corner of the screen and select "Network and Sharing Center."

After this, you will see a list of saved wireless networks. If you see that the network you are trying to connect to is in this list, you need to remove it from this list. Select the network and click the "Delete" button. After this, you will need to enter a password to connect to the wireless network.

No Internet via Wi-Fi.

Internet payment check.

The simplest thing that can happen when the Internet is not working is that it’s time to pay for it or the provider is working on it. To clarify the situation, call your provider and find out if you have a debt for the Internet and whether work is being done on the line.

Static IP address.

One of the problems with the Internet not working may be that the registered static address does not have the network settings that are necessary. In this case, I recommend using automatic network settings retrieval. To do this, you need to go to the Network and Sharing Center. One way to do this is to right-click on network icon in the lower right corner of the screen and select "Network and Sharing Center".

Another way is to use hotkeys + , enter the command ncpa.cpl and press Enter.

It doesn’t matter which method you used, the result will be the same - the Network Connections window will appear on the monitor. Next, you need to double-click on the wireless connection. In the status window that opens, select “Properties” in the properties window “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)”

Problem with the router.

The Internet may not work due to a router failure; the simplest thing you can do is reboot it. There are situations when the router resets the Internet settings, in which case you need to connect to it via the web interface and re-enter the Internet settings in order to test it in the future less problems With the router, I recommend updating its firmware.

Conclusion

In this article, I described all the ways I know to solve problems with Wi-Fi and the Internet. If these methods do not help you, you can describe the problem in detail in the comments and I, together with the readers of this site, will try to help you.

This article is devoted to the issue of security when using wireless WiFi networks.

Introduction - WiFi Vulnerabilities

main reason The vulnerability of user data when this data is transmitted over WiFi networks lies in the fact that the exchange occurs over a radio wave. And this makes it possible to intercept messages at any point where a WiFi signal is physically available. Simply put, if the signal of an access point can be detected at a distance of 50 meters, then interception of all network traffic of this WiFi network is possible within a radius of 50 meters from the access point. In the next room, on another floor of the building, on the street.

Imagine this picture. In the office the local network built via WiFi. The signal from this office's access point is picked up outside the building, for example in a parking lot. An attacker outside the building can gain access to the office network, that is, unnoticed by the owners of this network. WiFi networks can be accessed easily and discreetly. Technically much easier than wired networks.

Yes. To date, means of protecting WiFi networks have been developed and implemented. This protection is based on encrypting all traffic between the access point and the end device that is connected to it. That is, an attacker can intercept a radio signal, but for him it will be just digital “garbage”.

How does WiFi protection work?

The access point includes in its WiFi network only the device that sends the correct password (specified in the access point settings). In this case, the password is also sent encrypted, in the form of a hash. The hash is the result of irreversible encryption. That is, data that has been hashed cannot be decrypted. If an attacker intercepts the password hash, he will not be able to obtain the password.

But how does the access point know whether the password is correct or not? What if she also receives a hash, but cannot decrypt it? It's simple - in the access point settings the password is specified in its pure form. The authorization program takes a blank password, creates a hash from it, and then compares this hash with the one received from the client. If the hashes match, then the client’s password is correct. The second feature of hashes is used here - they are unique. The same hash cannot be obtained from two different sets of data (passwords). If two hashes match, then they were both created from the same set of data.

By the way. Thanks to this feature, hashes are used to control data integrity. If two hashes (created over a period of time) match, then the original data (during that period of time) has not been changed.

However, despite the fact that the most modern method WiFi network protection (WPA2) is reliable, this network can be hacked. How?

There are two methods for accessing a network protected by WPA2:

  1. Selection of a password using a password database (so-called dictionary search).
  2. Exploitation of a vulnerability in the WPS function.

In the first case, the attacker intercepts the password hash for the access point. The hashes are then compared against a database of thousands or millions of words. A word is taken from the dictionary, a hash is generated for this word and then this hash is compared with the hash that was intercepted. If a primitive password is used on an access point, then cracking the password of this access point is a matter of time. For example, an 8-digit password (8 characters long is the minimum password length for WPA2) is one million combinations. On a modern computer, you can sort through one million values in a few days or even hours.

In the second case, a vulnerability in the first versions of the WPS function is exploited. This feature allows you to connect a device that does not have a password, such as a printer, to the access point. When using this feature, the device and access point exchange a digital code and if the device sends the correct code, the access point authorizes the client. There was a vulnerability in this function - the code had 8 digits, but only four of them were checked for uniqueness! That is, to hack WPS you need to search through all the values that give 4 digits. As a result, hacking an access point via WPS can be done in just a few hours, on any weakest device.

Setting up WiFi network security

The security of the WiFi network is determined by the settings of the access point. Several of these settings directly affect network security.

WiFi network access mode

The access point can operate in one of two modes - open or protected. In case of open access, any device can connect to the access point. In the case of protected access, only the device that transmits the correct access password is connected.

There are three types (standards) of WiFi network protection:

  • WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy). The very first standard of protection. Today it actually does not provide protection, since it can be hacked very easily due to the weakness of the protection mechanisms.
  • WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access). Chronologically the second standard of protection. At the time of creation and commissioning, it provided effective protection WiFi networks. But at the end of the 2000s, opportunities were found to hack WPA protection through vulnerabilities in the security mechanisms.
  • WPA2 (Wi-Fi Protected Access). Latest standard of protection. Provides reliable protection when certain rules are followed. To date, there are only two known ways to break WPA2 security. Dictionary password brute force and a workaround using the WPS service.

Thus, to ensure the security of your WiFi network, you must select the WPA2 security type. However, not all client devices can support it. For example, Windows XP SP2 only supports WPA.

In addition to choosing the WPA2 standard, additional conditions are required:

Use AES encryption method.

The password to access the WiFi network must be composed as follows:

  1. Use letters and numbers in the password. A random set of letters and numbers. Or a very rare word or phrase that is meaningful only to you.
  2. Not use simple passwords like name + date of birth, or some word + a few numbers, for example lena1991 or dom12345.
  3. If you need to use only a digital password, then its length must be at least 10 characters. Because an eight-character digital password is selected using brute force methods. real time(from several hours to several days, depending on the power of the computer).

If you use complex passwords in accordance with these rules, then your WiFi network cannot be hacked by guessing a password using a dictionary. For example, for a password like 5Fb9pE2a(random alphanumeric), maximum possible 218340105584896 combinations. Today it is almost impossible to select. Even if a computer were to compare 1,000,000 (million) words per second, it would take almost 7 years to iterate over all the values.

WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup)

If the access point has the WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) function, you need to disable it. If this feature is required, you must ensure that its version is updated to the following capabilities:

  1. Using all 8 PIN code characters instead of 4, as was the case in the beginning.
  2. Enable a delay after several attempts to send an incorrect PIN code from the client.

An additional option to improve WPS security is to use an alphanumeric PIN code.

Public WiFi Security

Today it is fashionable to use the Internet via WiFi networks in in public places- in cafes, restaurants, shopping centers and so on. It is important to understand that using such networks may lead to theft of your personal data. If you access the Internet through such a network and then log in to a website, your data (username and password) may be intercepted by another person who is connected to the same WiFi network. After all, on any device that has passed authorization and is connected to the access point, you can intercept network traffic from all other devices on this network. And the peculiarity of public WiFi networks is that anyone can connect to it, including an attacker, and not only to open network, but also to protected.

What can you do to protect your data when connecting to the Internet via a public WiFi network? There is only one option - to use the HTTPS protocol. This protocol establishes an encrypted connection between the client (browser) and the site. But not all sites support the HTTPS protocol. Addresses on a site that supports the HTTPS protocol begin with the https:// prefix. If addresses on a site have the http:// prefix, this means that the site does not support HTTPS or does not use it.

Some sites do not use HTTPS by default, but have this protocol and can be used if you explicitly (manually) specify the https:// prefix.

As for other cases of using the Internet - chats, Skype, etc., you can use free or paid VPN servers to protect this data. That is, first connect to VPN server, and only then use chat or an open site.

WiFi Password Protection

In the second and third parts of this article, I wrote that when using the WPA2 security standard, one of the ways to hack a WiFi network is to guess the password using a dictionary. But there is another opportunity for an attacker to obtain the password to your WiFi network. If you store your password on a sticky note glued to the monitor, this makes it possible for a stranger to see this password. And your password can be stolen from a computer connected to your WiFi network. This can be done by an outsider if your computers are not protected from access by outsiders. This can be done using malware. In addition, the password can be stolen from a device that is taken outside the office (house, apartment) - from a smartphone, tablet.

So if you need reliable protection your WiFi network, you must take steps to securely store your password. Protect it from access by unauthorized persons.

One of the common problems when connecting an Android phone or tablet to Wi-Fi is an authentication error, or simply the message “Saved, WPA/WPA2 protected” after trying to connect to a wireless network.

In this article, I will talk about the ways I know to fix the authentication problem and still connect to the Internet distributed by your Wi-Fi router, as well as what may cause this behavior.

Contact the point manufacturer or router for assistance. . This alert notification is enabled or disabled in the app settings. This warning notification is defined in the application settings. To clear this message, follow these steps:

Connecting to an access point that uses the default network name may present a security issue. This access point typically uses all default security and management settings. If you are using a personal network, change the security settings and network name to improve network security.

Saved, WPA/WPA2 protection on Android

Typically, the connection process itself when an authentication error occurs is as follows: you select a wireless network, enter its password, and then see the status change: Connection - Authentication - Saved, WPA2 or WPA protection. If a little later the status changes to “Authentication Error”, while the network connection itself does not occur, then something is wrong with the password or security settings on the router. If it just says “Saved,” then it’s probably due to the Wi-Fi network settings. And now, in order, what can be done in this case to connect to the network.

File sharing and printer sharing allow other computers on the network to access resources on your computer. To clear this message and restore network shares when you log off, follow these steps: If you receive a message with a card that is not detected by the network, the card has been removed or not installed. The card may have been removed or not installed.

  • Click My Computer and select Properties.
  • Select "Hardware".
  • Click Device Manager.
  • Select Network Adapters.
Recommended Action: Select Profile, click Login. The application you configured to run when this connection profile cannot be found. Check the path and name in the advanced settings of the profile manager.

Important Note: When changing the wireless network settings in the router, delete the saved network on your phone or tablet. To do this, in Wi-Fi settings, select your network and hold it until a menu appears. There is also an “Change” item in this menu, but for some reason, even on the latest versions of Android, after making changes (for example, a new password), an authentication error still appears, while after deleting the network everything is fine.

To check the path and name, follow these steps: This authentication error is usually caused by incorrect server credentials. To resolve this error, follow these steps: The specified ID must match the ID that was issued by the certificate and registered with the authentication server used by the authenticator. This requirement depends on the authentication server and typically means that the authentication server must know the recipient of the certificate as the certificate authority. You must log in with the same name that was used when installing the certificate. Click Next to select a different certificate from the list of installed certificates or specify a different server or certificate name. Click Connect and try to connect to the network and authenticate with the server.

  • The certificate must be valid for the authentication server.
  • Select a profile from the list of profiles.
  • Click Properties to open the General Settings page.
  • Click Next to open Security Options.
  • Enterprise security has been selected.
  • Select a profile.
This error occurred because the smart card was unexpectedly removed.

Very often, such an error is caused by an incorrect password entry, while the user can be sure that he is entering everything correctly. First of all, make sure that the Wi-Fi password does not use Cyrillic, and when entering you respect the case of letters (capital and small). For ease of verification, you can temporarily change the password on the router to a completely digital one. You can read about how to do this in the instructions for setting up the router (there is information for all common brands and models) on my website (also there you will find how to log in in the router settings for the changes described below).

Router settings for connecting a phone

Authentication failed because the authentication clock expired while authenticating this mobile station. If the rogue access point does not exist or is not suspected, click the profile in the profile list. Click Connect to establish a connection to the network and attempt to authenticate with the server. This error occurs when the authenticator does not accept the profile credentials. To resolve this issue, contact your administrator.

Solving problems with authentication errors on your device

Go to the management console. In any case, the identifiers that need to be filled in are the identifiers of your email address. This makes it easy to send email from unfree external connection. Go to your email management console.

The second common option, especially for older and budget phones and tablets, is an unsupported Wi-Fi network mode. You should try enabling 802.11 b/g mode (instead of n or Auto) and try connecting again. Also, in rare cases, changing the wireless network region to the USA (or Russia, if you have a different region installed) helps.

Make sure the service is activated. You can now customize your email software with the following new settings. Check your wireless connection. The first step is to try connecting another device to the same network to check correct function wireless connection and checking that the router is configured correctly.

Save your changes and return from settings. Check your wireless signal strength. Wireless network performance depends on signal strength. You need to connect to a place where the signal is strong. Make sure your firmware is up to date. Try rebooting your device to factory settings.

The next thing to check and try to change is the authentication method and WPA encryption (also in the router’s wireless network settings, the items may be named differently). If you have WPA2-Personal installed by default, try installing WPA. Encryption - AES.

Another method suggested in the comments - try setting a Wi-Fi network password consisting of only numbers, it may help.

AND last method, which you can try if something happens - it automatically fixes problems using the Android WiFi Fixer application (can be downloaded for free at). The application automatically corrects many errors related to the wireless connection and, judging by the reviews, it works (although I’m not entirely sure how).

Error: 619: The specified port is not open. Error: 629: It has been disconnected from the selected number's computer. Error: 633: The modem is already in use or is not configured to dial an external phone number.

  • Was the computer restarted after installing the modem?
  • If not: do it.
  • Isn't there a microfilter in front of the modem?
  • Modem error?
Error: 638: The wait time for the dish was exceeded.
  • The reason for this error is incorrect setting connections.
  • Check your modem and phone number.
Error: 645: An internal authentication error occurred. Error: 650: The remote access server is not responding. Error: 651: Modem error reported.

Users often experience an authentication error when connecting to WiFi on Android devices. Most often it is caused by an incorrect password entry, although situations when a previously working connection suddenly denies access also happen. Read more about why this happens and how to deal with it later in the article.

Reasons for Authentication Error

Any secure network implies the presence of a key - a code word that gives the user the right to receive and send information. If you enter the wrong password, then when connecting to Wi-Fi, the system will write: “authentication error” and the connection protocol will be disrupted. An incorrectly entered combination of characters is the most common problem. To avoid this, it is recommended to remember:

The most common reason for this is the modem hanger. . Error: 680: No dial tone. Is the service already active? - If not, we can call and find out if the line is ready or wait. Does the signal originate, for example, through the central unit? . Error: 692: Hardware failure in the domain.

Problem with Android device firmware

Make sure your computer has network adapters - if so, disable them in Device Manager. 720 errors have been known to appear when there is a problem with the firewall or antivirus program.

  • Remove software floppy disks.
  • Other ways to remove this error are described in the section: Error 720.
  • The connection attempt was unsuccessful.
Error: 721: The remote computer is not responding.
  • letter case matters;

  • you need to check the input language;

  • Replacing letters like “s” in English with “s” in Russian is unacceptable.

If even after absolutely correct input password, the device does not connect to Wi-Fi; the authentication error may be on the router’s side. Depending on the characteristics of the connected device, the following can be checked during connection:

Error: 749: Invalid phone number. Properties phone call installed incorrectly. . Error: 756: This connection is already selected. We are creating a new Internet connection, the old connection is damaged and can be deleted. Error: 777: The connection attempt failed because the modem or other device connected to the remote computer is damaged.

Error: 797: The connection failed because the modem was not found. To disable network adapters, go to Control Panel and find the System icon, click on it. The most obvious thing is that the modem was connected before installing the drivers. We remove the drivers and reinstall. Let's remember to connect the modem when asked to do so. Should drivers be installed for the modem? - check, install. Sometimes it's worth creating a new connection. It is also possible that this error occurs when the modem is faulty.

  • Go to the Hardware tab and click the Device Manager button.
  • In the equipment tree, click on the network cards separator.
  • Right-click on the backup network card and turn it off.
  • Restart your computer to remove the installation.
  • Network card drivers are installed.
  • Install them.
  • Disable the network adapter - enable it in Device Manager.
  • Paused voice gateway.
We follow the master.
  • Network SSID;

  • Router MAC address;

If at least one of the points does not match the data stored in memory, the smartphone or tablet will interrupt the connection protocol for security reasons. This discrepancy may be caused by:

Using Wifi Fixer

Follow the link and click the "Add" button. In the “Create a new connection” window, select “Connect to a network using broadband” and click “Next”. IN next window Enter a name for the call and tap Done. It was also checked that the new connection is set to default and that the option is always selected: Always select the default connection.

The term "Authentication Error"

As a result of our work, an Internet connection window and an icon will appear on the desktop. You enter a username or password, but do not change anything in the connection settings. Another user connecting with your username and password is a very serious violation of the rules - never give data to anyone.

  • Re-enter your username and password.
  • Everything looks correct and the error is still happening.
Error: 711: A configuration error on this computer is preventing this connection.
  • settings failure in the router;
  • malicious substitution;
  • new.

Regardless of the cause, the problem must be resolved comprehensively: both on the connection device and on the router.

Android Devices: Troubleshooting Authentication

So, there was a Wi-Fi authentication error on Android: what to do in such a situation? First of all, you need to make sure that:

After removing the keys, turn off your computer and turn it on. . Error: 718: Timeout waiting for a valid response from the remote computer. Usually we have a blank user field in the connection settings, please enter the relevant details and connect to the Internet. Error: 735: Ї - the specified address was rejected by the server.

You have created a connection, but you don't have network adapter, or you created a connection and then installed the network adapter. Error: 741: The local computer does not support the required data encryption type. Error: 769: The specified destination is not available.

  • the connection is made to exactly that network;
  • the password was entered correctly;
  • is there a limit on the number of connected devices;
  • You're the only one with a connection problem.

You can try to enter the password again. To do this, go to Settings - Wireless networks (wireless connection - depends on the Android version). In the window that appears, find and press the SSID name, select “change settings” in the drop-down list. Enter a new password and try to connect again. If this doesn't help, read on.
In case your phone does not connect to WiFi, the authentication error occurs on the device itself. To resolve this issue, you will need to take several steps.

The number of devices for Internet connection in each house or apartment increases every year. They use the “global network”, including wireless. When authentication errors occur when connecting to wifi on Android, what to do to correct the situation - main question. The error is displayed on the tablet or smartphone, and the network in another location is easily connected. However, there is no need to worry, the problem is not complicated and we can solve it to the common man regardless of the level of literacy and technical qualifications. Below we will describe in detail the reasons why authentication problems arise on Android devices and what should be done about it.

Before analyzing why a network connection error occurs, you should dwell on the term “authentication” in detail. The concept means authentication. Authentication is necessary mechanism checks that ensure protection. Tablet, phone, computer or laptop in the process of connecting to wireless internet through the wi fi router must successfully pass authentication by entering the ID and password set in advance.

How does authentication work?

In essence, authentication is a procedure during which the correctness of the ID and password is verified. Several types of authentication are used. The desired one is selected in the settings menu of the device used as an access point. Authentication usually refers to the type of router data encryption.

The most commonly used technology is WPA-2, which uses the symmetric AES algorithm. The authentication method for wireless clients is WPA2 Personal. Bypass this protection it is impossible for an attacker, regardless of his qualifications. In normal conditions, for example, at home, one key is installed for everyone. Its use creates a connection to the network.

In conditions where more serious protection is needed, for example, at sensitive facilities, a different approach is used. Each subscriber who has the right to connect to the network receives his own password.

Steps to connect to wireless Internet

Process or tablet to " Wi-Fi" looks like that. First on own device Wi-Fi turns on. To do this, in most cases, it is enough to swipe - a sliding movement with your finger - from the top of the screen down and click on the desired icon. The name of the network will appear on the screen and prompt you to connect to it. After that, you just need to enter the password in a special field, and everything will go well: the user will gain access. However, sometimes an error occurs during authentication.

Reasons for this malfunction

Situations when, when connecting a device running on Android, for example, a smartphone Samsung Galaxy, tablet Sony or any other device on the screen writes about an authentication error, two: mismatch of the entered password or different type encryption on the router and the connected device. They cover most cases, but sometimes malfunctions and errors are caused by reasons of a different nature.

Incorrect password

As a rule, an authentication error when connecting a phone occurs due to the fact that users enter the set password incorrectly. This is usually due to the high complexity of the latter. Users are similar to passwords for their own mail or social networks increasingly using different case of letters, their random arrangement and interweaving with numbers and other symbols. All this leads to the fact that many people who rarely connect to a particular network cannot enter the code correctly and without errors.

Faulty router

Sometimes wifi authentication errors are caused by the device, or access point, being faulty at a particular point in time. Modern routers are equipped with color indicators that indicate this. However, professionals or experienced users pay attention to their incorrect operation.

Often, a smartphone or tablet does not connect to the network due to the fact that at the hardware level, due to obsolescence, it is not capable of working with the modern high-speed 802.11N standard.

Data encryption type mismatch

A frequently occurring authentication error on an Android phone is reported due to an encryption type mismatch.

Modern routers, by default, install a symmetric encryption algorithm - AES. However, owners of many old devices in this case simply cannot connect Wi-Fi on their phone. This happens because installed version Android is outdated and does not support AES. Also, some devices do not support WPA-2. All this leads to an error.

Ways to solve the authentication problem

Based on the reasons described above for a malfunction when connecting to a wireless network, it becomes clear that there is no single answer to the question of how to quickly remove an authentication error. In every specific case We use our own algorithm to solve identification problems. They will be described in more detail below.

Reconnecting the network

If an identification error occurs, you must first try to connect again. To do this, the device is switched to flight mode for 20-30 seconds. Sometimes a connection problem can be fixed by simply deleting network data. Let's consider this using the example of a Samsung smartphone. In the first case, you swipe from top to bottom, press the “Airplane Mode” button, and then turn it off. In the second case, you need to go to the settings, go to the wi-fi sub-item, select there the desired network. By holding your finger on its name for a long time, a menu is called up where the “Forget network” option is selected. After this, information related to a specific wireless network is erased from the memory of the smartphone or tablet and, most likely, authentication errors can be avoided. In addition, you should be aware that some devices may not be able to work with the 802.11N standard. To do this, the b/g/n mixed mode must be changed to b/g mixed:

Authentication Error

There are situations when Android devices are unable to connect to the network when authenticating due to a conflict with the version of the security standard set in the settings. Moreover, this applies to both modern phones and outdated models. In this situation, the simplest solution is to change the newest WPA-2 to the older WPA. In most cases, this is due to a failure in the router’s firmware, so the described solution is temporary; it’s worth updating to a newer and more current firmware version.

Sometimes, an authentication error means that older versions of Android are incompatible with the AES algorithm. In this case, the authentication method changes to WPA-Auto-Personal, after which you will be able to select the TKIP protocol. ASUS routers use an advanced version that uses two protocols at once, depending on the connected device.

The fact that this is the cause of the authentication error is determined by the temporary setting of open access. In the authentication method, select Open System from the drop-down menu. If after this step the smartphone is successfully authenticated, it is obvious that you should experiment with this field. Using a brute force method, determine a method that will function without errors.

Finding the reason in the router

If the authentication error is presumably caused by the router, which is an access point, the following simple manipulations are performed with it. The simplest solution to the error is a banal reboot. This is done by turning off the power button and pressing it again after half a minute. If this does not help, see if the network is available for authentication. This is done through the administrator interface, which is easy to access by entering 192.168.1.1 It is necessary that the SSID (network name) be written on English language, and the “hide SSID” checkbox was not checked.

Changing passwords

When correcting authentication errors, one cannot fail to mention the change set password. Instead of a complex set of symbols and signs, make a simple password of numbers, which will allow you to successfully authenticate.

Additional methods to solve the problem

If the above methods do not fix authentication errors, the reason may be, for example, filtering possible clients by MAC address. When the function is active, the tablet or phone will not be able to connect successfully. This happens if their MAC addresses are not included in a special allow list located directly in the administrator interface of the router. Another solution to the error is used for equipment manufactured by Lenovo. To successfully pass authentication, according to reviews from owners of smartphones from this company, it is necessary to change the channel from Automatic to 6.

In some situations, to correct an error that occurred during authentication, it is worth trying to change the channel width. Setting a higher value increases the speed due to the higher rate bandwidth. Sometimes rebooting the device connected to the access point also helps.

It is possible to experiment with other settings, for example, change the wireless network operating mode, use static channels.

In any case, do not despair when an authentication error appears when connecting to a wifi network on any device running Android. To decide what to do to correct the problem, you must first identify the cause of the problem.

Authentication error when connecting to WiFi is one of the most common problems that is associated with a problem connecting the device to the router (router).

Let's take a closer look at the error itself and what to do if it occurs.

Why does this problem occur?

An authentication error occurs when the router and device (connecting subscriber) cannot identify each other for a number of reasons.

The main indicator of such a problem is that when connecting to a network it writes “Saved, not connected” or simply “Saved”.

This problem often occurs on devices running operating system"Android" and on regular personal computers and laptops.

Let's take a closer look at everything possible ways troubleshooting.

Follow the instructions and tips to set up a correct Internet connection.

Password verification

Often the user cannot connect to the network because the password was entered incorrectly.

Due to the fact that the default access window hides the entered password characters, the user may make a mistake and enter one of the characters incorrectly.

Check the “Show password” checkbox to see all the characters you enter.

On computers running Windows OS, hold down the key located on the right in the text field to see the characters of the entered router access password.

If you have forgotten your password, you need to use the router settings.

To do this, follow the instructions below:

  • Login using your personal computer or laptop in any of the browsers;
  • Enter the router's local address in the address bar. Look at the address at the bottom of the router or in its manual. If you do not find localhost information, use the command line.
    Turn on the Run window. In the text field, enter "cmd" (without quotes). Press Enter. In the console dialog box that opens, enter the text “ipconfig” (without quotes) and press Enter.
    Find the “default gateway” item and look at the address in the column opposite - this is the local identifier of the router on the network;

  • Enter your login information into the router settings (login and access password). If you have forgotten this information, please contact your network provider;
  • After logging in, you will be taken to the router’s quick settings tab. The settings menu differs depending on the router model. In some cases it may be presented in English;
  • Go to the advanced settings tab and in the WiFi field select security settings, as shown in the figure below;

  • In the encryption key text field, you can publicly find out which encryption key the router uses;

  • Turn off the settings menu and try to connect to the router by entering the access key you just viewed.

Checking the router connection

If after entering the correct password you still get an authentication error, the next step is to check whether the router is properly connected to the network.

The picture below shows basic diagram connecting the router.

Make sure all wiring is connected as shown in the figure. Otherwise, reconnect.

After this, reboot all devices and try connecting to the router again.

Also, the problem of authentication error may occur on the provider's side, so it is appropriate to call the telecom provider back.

Perhaps they can solve the problem on their end or send competent specialists to you to solve the problem.

Reinstalling driver software for your computer's network adapter

In some cases, an authentication error occurs on computers with outdated network adapter (network chip) drivers.

Follow the instructions to update your driver software:

  • Enable the system device manager window. To do this, right-click on the “Start” button and select “Device Manager”;

  • Find the network adapters tab among all devices and expand it;

  • Find your WiFi adapter in the list of devices. Right-click on it and select driver update. The driver software installation process will begin and complete automatically.
    Restart your router and computer and try connecting to the network again.
