Wooden block house. Block house for exterior decoration of the house. Choosing a block house for exterior decoration - features of choice

Today, it is examples of traditional architecture that are becoming a trend and gaining popularity. It is prestigious to have a beautiful wooden house, a country cottage made of logs. At the same time, new technologies and modern materials are emerging: they make it possible to erect buildings quickly, reduce the load on the foundation and achieve good energy efficiency parameters. In addition, construction costs are also reduced.

You can build a cottage from an innovative material, but visually it will appear wooden. This is achievable if you buy a block house. It consists of plates with a complex cross-section: their inner surface is flat, but the outer surface imitates a rounded log. Covering a house with such lumber creates the complete illusion of wooden masonry.

Features of a block house

Many people are interested in how much a block house costs, how profitable it is to use it for finishing work and façade design. Manufacturers present options in various price categories. The determining factor here is the type of lumber.

Experts and craftsmen note: strength and durability do not depend on the type. All panels are equally reliable and have decent performance properties. The boards are made from proven raw materials, dried in the same chambers, using the same technology. But they are divided into varieties at the final stage of production. When sorting, visual characteristics are taken into account to a greater extent: the amount of darkening, the density of marks from knots, and the accuracy of geometry.

The advantages of popular lumber deserve attention:

  • The quality is strictly controlled. All boards are durable and attractive due to their high stability and wear resistance.
  • People like sustainability. The material is natural, natural wood is used.
  • The block house is not subject to deformation. Its shape will remain original even after prolonged use.
  • The lumber is adapted for use in difficult climatic conditions. It is not afraid of serious temperature differences, humidity and wind loads.
  • Installation is carried out without problems, ventilation cuts are provided to prevent the accumulation of condensation.

  • There should be a small gap for air between the wall and the siding;
  • a wooden strip designed for fastening is attached to the walls every 50 cm (between them you need to lay a heat or sound insulating layer, for example, mineral wool);
  • profile boards are attached to mounting rails using special fasteners - metal brackets;
  • before installing the products on the walls or ceiling, the boards must be removed from the plastic packaging and left to cure for several days in a warm room;
  • After installation work, it is necessary to paint the narrow block house for additional protection with colored or colorless water-based varnish.

A block house allows you to give a stunning appearance to any home, even if it is built from ordinary building materials. After covering the block with a house, it seems that the house is entirely built of logs; it is impossible to distinguish it from a natural log house. You can do the paneling of a house with a block house yourself.

It is worth noting that the original meaning of the word blockhouse has been distorted. In the West, it means frame houses that are assembled in a short time. In our country, the same term is used primarily for finishing panels. To produce a block house, different types of wood are used; coniferous wood is often used, so it will not be difficult to choose the right option for any home.

Choosing a block house type

Block house can be classified according to the type of material used:

  • wooden block house. Made directly from logs. At a woodworking plant, a log is processed according to a square-in-a-circle pattern, that is, semicircular sections around the perimeter of the logs are cut down, the remainder is used to make beams and boards, and sections with a semicircular surface are used to make a block house. Even at the production stage, the wood is impregnated with special protective compounds, and the packaging prevents deformation;

  • metal block house. In fact, it is a type of siding - it only imitates the shape and surface of wood, installation is carried out using the same method as the installation of siding panels;

  • vinyl house block is somewhat dull compared to natural wood. Installation is no different from installing siding and a metal block house.

Tools and materials for covering a house with a block house

Cladding a house with a block house with your own hands is quite simple; for this you will need the following tools and materials:

  • wooden bars (section 40x50 and 30x40 mm), a metal frame can also be used for lathing, but most often preference is given to wooden lathing;
  • waterproofing film;
  • vapor barrier layer. Foil kraft paper is often used;

  • heat-insulating material, in principle, the installation of a layer of heat insulation is not necessary, but most often the sheathing of a block house is combined with wall insulation;
  • block house;
  • a wood treatment agent, despite the factory impregnation, additional processing of the block house will not be superfluous;
  • stain or varnish;
  • screws, nails or clamps;

  • platbands;
  • skirting boards (when covering a block house on the inside of the wall);
  • corners for mounting on external and internal corners;
  • a hacksaw for cutting block house (for large volumes of work it is better to use a circular saw);
  • drill;
  • construction stapler;
  • screwdriver

Block house wall cladding technology

To properly cover a wall with a block house, installation work should be performed in the following sequence:

  1. Preparing the wall. At this stage, the walls are cleaned of dirt. If you are covering a wooden exterior wall, you must carefully remove any remaining bark from the logs.
  2. A layer of waterproofing is attached to the surface of the wall. For this you can use a special film.

  1. A sheathing is placed on top of this film. As a rule, wooden sheathing is used, although the use of metal profiles is allowed. The sheathing elements must first be protected from rotting and insects by impregnation with special substances. It is recommended to use beams with a minimum cross-section of 40x50 mm; this size is due to the fact that the thickness of thermal insulation materials is usually 50 mm. The pitch of the sheathing beams should not exceed 50 - 60 cm. Mineral wool or other heat-insulating material is placed in the resulting cells.

Since there must be a gap between the blockhouse and the layer of heat insulation, a second sheathing is placed on top of the sheathing already attached to the wall, but bars of a smaller cross-section are used - 30x40 mm, to which the panels of the blockhouse will later be attached. Before attaching the second layer of sheathing, a vapor barrier membrane is attached over the entire surface of the insulation (using a stapler).

It is important not to confuse the location of the vapor barrier layer; foil kraft paper is positioned with the foil facing out.

  1. After this, you can begin installing the panels of the block house; wall cladding can begin both from top to bottom and in the opposite direction. At this stage, maintaining the horizontality of the panels is of great importance; the slightest distortion can ruin the entire positive effect of cladding the block house. Particular care must be taken to control the horizontality of the first panel.

The outer wall is not covered over its entire height; the house block is not brought down to the ground by at least 30 cm. Stone materials are usually used to finish this area.

Even before starting the sheathing, you need to decide on the type of fastening of the house block to the sheathing; the speed of the work and the percentage of defects will depend on this. The panels are connected to each other using a tongue-and-groove pattern, but they also need to be attached to the sheathing strips. This can be done in 3 ways.

Using clamps. This will require additional labor, so the installation of the block house will be somewhat slower, but the risk of damage to individual panels will be minimized.

Using galvanized nails. Perhaps the most undesirable method of fastening, which can only be recommended to an experienced person. The nails are driven at an angle or perpendicularly into the groove of the board. When using this method, there is an extremely high risk of damage to the interlocking elements of the panels.

Using self-tapping screws. In this case, a hole equal to the diameter of the self-tapping screw is drilled in the board ½ of its thickness, then the house block is attached to the sheathing. Subsequently, this hole is masked using, for example, a mixture of glue and sawdust.

After installing and fastening the first row, its horizontalness is checked using a building level. In the future, horizontality can be checked every few rows.

To make it easier to cover a house with a block house, it is recommended to arrange the panels so that the tenon fits into the groove from top to bottom. With this arrangement of the panels, a light tap with a rubber mallet is enough to ensure that the panels are firmly connected to each other.

  1. Completion of installation of the block house. The finishing touch can be considered the finishing of the external and internal corners. In principle, you can try to connect the panels of a block house end-to-end, but this will require careful sawing of the ends of the panels, which will lead to unnecessary labor costs.

In addition, a butt joint will not allow the panels to compensate for temperature deformations when heated. To save time, most often special corners are used for finishing corners, which are attached to adhesive mixtures. This does not affect the aesthetic component.

The same approach is used when finishing window and door openings. Gaps and other imperfections are hidden behind the platbands.

  1. Despite the factory impregnation of wood with protective compounds, many people prefer to coat the wood again with an antiseptic after the installation is completed. You can also use varnish or stain to achieve the desired shade of wood.

With the help of block house cladding, even the most ordinary brick house can easily be turned into a natural log house. It will look as if the builders have just finished laying the last logs.

If all the necessary points are taken into account during this process, the result will meet all your expectations.

We install a block house

Metal lathing

Installation of a block house is always carried out according to, regardless of what surface the installation is carried out on, be it wood, brick or any other material.

To do this, it is necessary to attach bars with a thickness of 30 to 40 mm to the wall. It is also necessary to maintain an interval between them of about fifty to sixty centimeters.

Then they should be leveled in height. One of the huge advantages of this design inside the building is the cladding with a block house, in which there is subsequently no need to level the wall before the finishing process.

Wooden sheathing for a block house

When finishing the interior of a room with a block-house, thermal insulation is not necessarily necessary, which usually occurs when finishing facades. In particular, such a procedure is not required for wooden and brick structures. This is a question about insulating the room before you start installing the sheathing. If you still decide that you need insulation, then the thickness of the bars should be increased accordingly. And one interesting fact - sound insulation will be improved, since there will be free air space between the wall and the sheathing.

Installation of a block house with insulation

The standard way to install a block house inside the structure itself is horizontally along a vertical grid. But sometimes another method is used - vertical installation of the board. This method is often used in rooms with a higher humidity coefficient: baths and saunas. This fact prevents the destruction of wood, which can cause the accumulation of water in the grooves of the board itself.

If we look at the example of gluing wallpaper with an overlap, then this is where we can draw an analogy with the installation process. The installation of the tenons of the first board and the rest must be directed towards a light source, which will make the joint of the boards not so noticeable. But this method can be considered an exception, not a consequence. The main method is still setting, with the position of the tenon on top, horizontally, and the groove at the bottom of the board.

Hidden block house mount

One of the important mentions for you is that in order for the material to acquire environmental humidity, it is necessary to hold the block house without packaging before the actual installation process indoors for several days.

You can start the installation itself not only from the top, but also from the bottom. Fastening with a nail or self-tapping screw at an angle into a tenon is one of the most common methods. To begin with, for easier and more convenient work, installation in the best way should start from the bottom. It would also be appropriate to mention another method - the use of clamps. And clamps are special brackets for fastening. If we attach a block house in this way, then its cost accordingly increases, but the installation itself indoors remains reliable, durable and of high quality.

Block house is one of the most popular finishing materials. The front side of the product has a convex shape that imitates a log. This lumber is considered to be one of the types of lining, since they have the same installation method - the tongue-and-groove technology.

It is used in both external and internal decoration. The facade, finished with a blockhouse, looks like a house made of rounded logs.

Characteristic

If we compare the house block with other cladding boards, due to the arched profile it has a larger width. In other respects, it is similar to lining and imitation timber:

Parameter Characteristic
Material (type of raw material) Spruce, pine, larch
Thickness 22 – 42 mm
Length 2 - 6 m
Width 90 – 195 mm
Compound Tenon and groove
Humidity 10-12%

After production, it is thoroughly dried in a drying chamber, then processed.

Block house in construction

In general, there are two types of block houses - wide and narrow.

1. Wide - for exterior decoration - houses, cottages, baths. The house will look like it was built from logs.

2. Narrow - used in interior decoration. This is the decoration of premises such as country houses, cafes in a certain style. This lumber is also used for finishing saunas, gazebos and verandas.

It is interesting that a blockhouse can be painted in any color, creating an interesting, unusual interior. Tinting with varnish is also possible.

Block house: price per m2

Depending on what your construction and finishing tasks are, we can buy block house various sizes in any quantities.

The price of the product depends on its size. The larger the size, the greater the thickness of the lumber. And the greater the thickness, the higher the cost.

But there are other characteristics that affect the price - type of wood, grade. Pine and spruce are cheaper, but if you want high quality, it will be more expensive - then you need to choose from larch or cedar.

Sold by square meters or cubes. In our company, the price for a block house is below the market average, since we work without intermediaries.

Features of the material

Let's take a closer look at what the price depends on. Of course, it depends on the type of wood that is used in the production of this material. The cost is also affected by the quality of processing and the quality of the finished material, in another way we call this category. We sell several categories of blockhouses that meet recognized European standards.

  1. Category A - we allow the presence of knots, resin pockets (no more than 2), as well as through cracks - all this for every 1.5 meters,
  2. Category AB - knots (light, darkened), cracks, cores are possible, but there should be no rot or through cracks - comparison for more than 50% of the material,
  3. Category C - in this option we allow the presence of knots (the so-called live or dead), wane (this is part of the side surface of the log from which the lumber was made), possible changes in the color of the board, as well as other points.

You can buy an inexpensive block house of any category from us.

Advantages of a block house

  • Universal finishing material.
    Can be used for both external and internal decoration. Also suitable for finishing concrete, wood and brick bases.
  • Lightweight, easy-to-use material, which ensures ease of installation and is suitable for finishing room surfaces.
    It differs from other lumber for finishing in that it is actually very convenient to work with. The tongue-and-groove system makes installation easy, and the lightness of the material makes it possible to carry out work quickly and efficiently. In addition, it is possible to lay any thermal insulation materials under the blockhouse.
  • Durable in use.
    The service life of the product is affected by the humidity level. According to our standards, it does not exceed 10-12%. What does this indicator provide? The product will not crack or dry out under the influence of high and low temperatures, as well as their sudden changes. Withstands fairly strong mechanical loads. Processing the material makes it possible to be confident in the reliability of protection against insects and other environmental factors.
  • In addition to a beautiful, unusual interior, you get the aroma of wood in your home.
    Environmentally friendly, does not produce any fumes or foreign odors. On the contrary, the aroma of wood is natural. Deformations are excluded.
  • The only lumber that follows the surface of the log.
    The high demand for blockhouses is not accidental; this is decent and high-quality lumber. At the same time, it is economical compared to a solid log, but it replicates its appearance very naturally. The fastening elements are not visible, so the surface looks very natural.
  • Coniferous resin provides good natural waterproofing.
