It would seem that everything in this model is harmonious. There is, however, a significant drawback - battery capacity. The device does not work for long on one charge. Due to the insufficiently high rate of fire, you will not be able to fully enjoy reportage shooting.

The revolution in the world of photography began when Olympus launched its first mirrorless camera, the Pen E-P1, in 2009. This was a signal for change.
A mirrorless camera, or system camera, primarily attracts attention with its light weight. Manufacturers achieved this by removing the mirror system from the design, which was heavy and took up a lot of space. The mirrorless camera has built-in large sensors and a universal connector for any lenses from SLR cameras.
The system camera does not have an optical viewfinder. In order to frame the picture, a special display on the rear panel is used. The cheapest mirrorless cameras do not have a viewfinder at all, they simply crop the image on the LCD screen, like a smartphone or point-and-shoot camera. Why I got involved in this and how I evaluated different cameras for myself can be read here:. Based on these criteria, I compiled a small camera rating, in which I arranged the tested cameras in descending order of their attractiveness for me. I accompanied each point with brief comments so that people could understand why I put each system in one position or another. Well, so that everyone can make their own rating, according to their preferences.
Since everything can no longer fit into a single post (the limit on the number of characters interferes), and it’s strange to compare cameras of different categories with each other (yes, the arguments are in that order), I decided to make several different rating posts. This first. And it is dedicated to the class of equipment with interchangeable lenses (I will not divide equipment here by matrix size or by mirror/mirrorlessness).
So.
1. FUJIFILM X-E2

Here is a repeat of everything that was written in the review FUJIFILM X-E1. Plus, have X-E2 sensor with phase detection sensors installed on it, a new fast processor that raised system performance to a new level and made it possible to increase the bit depth of RAW files to 14-bit, a more detailed screen and corrected ergonomic flaws that were inherent in earlier models of X-series cameras. In general, it turned out to be an excellent device for every day!
2. Olympus OM-D E-M5
In general, it was very difficult to decide on leadership, and it’s not a matter of bias, as many would probably think. However, I don’t give a damn what anyone thinks. =:) In many ways, this camera shares its place with X-E2 thanks to the following qualities:
+ development of the micro4/3 system and the presence of a large number of lenses
+ high speed of the system as a whole
+ convenient rotating touch screen and electronic viewfinder
+ very good stabilizer performance
+ dust and moisture protection

Perhaps, Olympus OM-D E-M5- this is a clear success for Olympus! The camera turned out to be so good, in my opinion, that competitors will clearly have to catch up with it for a long time. Especially when you consider that there are already many excellent and relatively inexpensive lenses for this camera.
3. FUJIFILM X-M1
Advantages and disadvantages:

The conclusions about this camera are quite contradictory. It’s a pity, of course, that the screen rotates only about one axis, but the very fact of its rotation is a great benefit. It’s a pity, of course, that they cut off the electronic viewfinder, but at the same time the price of the camera turned out to be relatively low (compared to other X-series models equipped with the same sensor). It’s a pity, of course, that the kit lens turned out to be so ordinary, but there is always the opportunity to use other excellent FUJINON lenses with this camera, and through adapters you can install almost any 135-format optics. It’s a pity, of course, that in terms of speed the system remained at the same satisfactory level, but now fans have an excellent sensor and a bunch of automatic modes at their disposal. And so on and so forth.
In general, I believe that in the face X-M1 FUJIFILM managed to make a wonderful entry-level camera in the X-series line. With excellent design, high build quality and, most importantly, excellent performance. Although, of course, it’s a pity that X-M1 didn't show up a year or two ago. =:)
4. FUJIFILM X-E1
Well-deserved first place because:

In principle, one could repeat here and say the same thing that was written in the review FUJIFILM X-Pro1, about high quality in an affordable size and at an affordable price. With the only difference that X-E1 even more compact and cheaper. Therefore, I will not repeat myself, I will only say that for now this is my main camera - it can shoot everything that I shot before with full-frame cameras at comparable quality (or even better, if we talk about colors, for example), but the space in my backpack is limited takes much less.
5. FUJIFILM X-Pro1
This place is conditional because X-Pro1 technically completely coincides with X-E1, the only advantages here are a combined optical-electronic viewfinder and a better screen. Well, seniority in the line. And this leads to a noticeable increase in price... Pros and cons:
+ high image quality comparable to the best 35mm DSLRs
+ beautiful colors and high-quality film simulation, beautiful b/w
+ excellent shooting quality at high ISO values
+ good automatic operation, allowing you to get excellent quality even in JPEG
+ wonderful lenses, the range of which is growing
+ the ability to purchase adapters for any 35mm standard lenses
+ hybrid optical/electronic viewfinder
+ attractive appearance and high quality workmanshipLow speed of the system as a whole

In terms of picture, detail, color rendition and work at high ISOs X-Pro1 everything is at least not bad, so the issue of compactness is already beginning to become significant. For example, in my photo backpack, which fits a DSLR plus three lenses and a charger, you can’t put anything bulky anymore. But you can easily put it in the same backpack X-Pro1 with three similar lenses plus a charger and still have half of the free space left! This means that on short trips you can no longer travel with two bags, but with one photo backpack. For me this is a huge plus of the system. X-Pro1. And not at all what is often expressed on various photo forums in a drawn-out groan “By-y-y, the camera is big, you can’t put it in your pocket!..”
That is, we can say that today FUJIFILM has managed to make a very serious system, in no way inferior in its capabilities to bulky “DSLRs”, and in some ways even superior to them. That's why, X-Pro1 I can confidently recommend it both as the only camera for enthusiastic amateurs, and as another camera for professionals experienced in photography.
6. Sony Alpha NEX-7
Sony Alpha NEX-7, today the flagship of the NEX line, embodying the company’s technical innovations:

In general, to summarize, then Sony Alpha NEX-7 all so contradictory: "that's good, but..." or "this is not very good, although..." Almost every plus is balanced by a minus and vice versa. The camera is something of a contradiction. However, very often it is precisely this character that gives rise to a “polar attitude”, when one group of people almost categorically declares: “This is a wonderful system and it couldn’t be better!”, and the other states in exactly the same way: “no, the system, alas, failed!”. All the love or hate for Sony Alpha NEX-7, everything will depend only on your preferences.
7. Sony Alpha NEX-5
Basically, I wrote a review on the previous model, Sony Alpha NEX-5, but with the new version, not much has changed, except that the autofocus was corrected, the matrix was noticeably updated and a touchscreen was added. If you put all the pros and cons together, this is what you get:
+ one of the most compact models among all mirrorless cameras with an APS-C sensor
+ ability to work with a phase focusing adapter that supports A-mount lenses
+ the ability to use third-party optics by installing them through adapters
+ high quality rotating screen with touchscreen
+ attractive appearance
+ reasonable price
- confusing and not very user-friendly menu
- a peculiar balance of the camera, not everyone can hold it comfortably
I can safely recommend this camera to everyone, except those who would also like to shoot with it in the studio. Sony has turned out to be a very successful system, it could use a little more polishing... But here we need the marketers of this company to finally stop being afraid that the NEX system will gobble up the younger line of “DSLR” cameras. Let him eat, that's where they go.
8. Sony Alpha NEX-C3
In general, all the same pros and cons that the previous paragraph had:
+ one of the most compact models among all mirrorless cameras
+ high picture quality, even with “whale” lenses
+ good shooting quality at high ISO values
+ ability to work with a phase focusing adapter that supports A-mount lenses

9. Nikon 1 J1
I spoke in detail about the cameras of this system in the review. In my opinion, these cameras are now unfairly disgraced on the Internet. You just need to understand that not everyone needs circles in the bokeh; for many, the high speed and accuracy of automation is more important. Pros and cons of this camera:

+ excellent automatic operation
+ one of the most compact mirrorless camerasBoring, loose picture
- lack of a hot shoe and the ability to use a flash with a rotating head
Nikon 1 J1 I can confidently recommend it to those who lead an active lifestyle, who photograph something quick, and who at the same time do not have the opportunity/desire to bother with settings and selection of shooting modes. Very good point-n-shoot camera! Well, plus J1 I can recommend it to “Nikonists” - I think that with optics from “adult” Nikon cameras the picture can flourish. Nice machine.
10. Pentax K-01
Pentax K-01- a very unique, let’s say, mirrorless camera. A certain Marc Newson worked on its design, which we are reminded of not only by the unusual appearance of the camera, but also by the sign with the designer’s autograph. I had never heard anything about Marc Newson himself before or since. I cannot add the traditional expression “to my shame” in such situations, because I am not at all ashamed in this particular case. The design of this camera did not appeal to me at all, to put it mildly. Perhaps in something, but only in extravagance Pentax K-01 and you won't refuse. Well, all the pros and cons can be seen here:

Conclusions - This is perhaps the most difficult part of reviewing this camera. I believe that Pentax K-01- this is so far the only camera that can be purchased not based on a set of characteristics, but solely because you like it and want to buy it.
In general, it is difficult for me to give any meaningful and logical assessment of this camera. I can only admit that this was the purpose of releasing such a camera - to confuse us and give everyone a chance to think again about what we value in cameras? What do we like? What do we love and what do we hate? And is it true that there is only one step between these two states?
11. Olympus E-PM1
It may seem surprising that in my opinion this camera is not as good as the previous one in this rating. But there are reasons for this. All the pros and cons can be seen here:
+ compact camera dimensions, one of the smallest in the review
+ availability of good high-aperture “fixes” in the line of lenses
+ ability to use other optics of the micro 4/3 system
+ almost silent operationAutofocus errors
Usually I don’t say anything about noise and consider it just a feature of the cameras. But here is a slightly different case: the noise is still quite noticeable. However, this is not so important. Olympus E-PM1 I would recommend it for purchase to those who need a compact, quiet micro 4/3 camera. Moreover, I would recommend it for purchase in a set with high-aperture prime lenses from Olympus and Panasonic.
12. Nikon 1 V1
About the second camera of the family Nikon 1 you can say the same thing as about the compact J1, but there are also differences. I have put together the pros and cons:

+ excellent combined autofocus
+ excellent automatic operation
+ the highest shooting speed – up to 60 full-size frames per second
+ ability to use Nikon optics via an adapter
+ the presence of an electronic viewfinder will allow you to shoot comfortably in bright sunshine
+ additional shoe for accessories, including your own flash with a rotating headBoring picture
- modest dynamic range of the matrix
- immodest size and weight
- high price in Russia
It was the high price and large dimensions/weight that moved this generally good camera to 8th place in the individual standings. I can recommend it to those who are suitable J1, but who wants additional advantages.
13. Samsung NX200
Alas, as often happens in movies, the sequel turns out to be no better than the first part. NX200, it seems, also fits into this rule... We can only hope for a speedy cure for childhood diseases. In the meantime:

+ compact dimensions
+ works well at high ISOsLow speed
- unreasonably huge size of RAW files
- faded colors, automation errors
This camera can be recommended to those who have/had a previous system from Samsung. And for those who are ready to put up with low speed and don’t worry about the lack of disk space on their computer. And also for those who want to work with a good line of lenses and are ready to wait for a possible correction of childhood diseases in new system firmware...
14. Samsung NX100
Perhaps one of the most balanced systems today. Its pros and cons are quite moderate, but they are in good harmony, it seems to me:
+ good autofocus performance
+ convenient control
+ nice pictureFormally, there are none... well, unless the system is somewhat outdated in its parameters and capabilities
We can safely recommend this camera to those who want a good, hassle-free camera with additional equipment, but do not want to overpay.
15. Panasonic Lumix GF2
The difference with the previous point is small. I would say they are on the same level. The pros and cons are:
+ good autofocus performancePoor image quality at high ISOs
- inconvenient cloudy display with touchscreen
You can take this camera for the sake of optics, but a few points above there are Olympus E-PM1, which is better in all respects Panasonic Lumix GF, In my opinion. Hence this is the only position in my personal camera rating.
16. Olympus E-P3
The camera turned out to be quite good, but there are a number of nuances due to which it is only in this place. The most important pros and cons are:
+ the ability to use a good set of optics from Panasonic and OlympusFrequent autofocus errors
- quite large sizes
- it’s unclear why there’s a touchscreen, illogical controls
- annoying noise even at fairly low ISOs
In my opinion, there are few advantages... All other things being equal, I would recommend taking Olympus E-PM1.
17. Panasonic Lumix GF1
Oddly enough, but despite my age, Lumix GF1 looks pretty good. Its pros and cons are, in my opinion:
+ one of the most convenient and intuitive controls among similar cameras
+ good autofocus performance
+ the ability to use a good set of optics from Panasonic and OlympusLow picture quality at high ISOs (from 800 and above)
- the camera is already quite outdated in its capabilities and characteristics
Eh, it’s a pity that cameras with such convenient controls are almost no longer made...
18. Olympus E-PL1
The camera is not new for a long time, I tested it a long time ago. Here are my pros and cons back then:
+ good autofocus performance
+ good ergonomics and quality materials
+ good automatic operation
+ the ability to use a good set of optics from Panasonic and OlympusDull colors in RAW, poisonous in JPEG
- high noise level
- insufficient dynamic range of the matrix
That is, everything was spoiled by the old matrix. This is what I wrote about then Olympus E-PL1: “In theory, if Olympus would put a new generation matrix in this device, it would turn out to be a hit, which could be safely recommended as a replacement for entry-level DSLRs! For now, this is not the case and the Olympus E-PL1 remains an amateur machine, in my opinion, with such a matrix it cannot beat NEX." In general, nothing much has changed in this regard, as you can see.
Everything changes, everything is impermanent and everything is known by comparison. Therefore, the cameras can change places.
Best mirrorless cameras | Introduction
Mirrorless (or system) cameras have taken a significant share of the market previously held by DSLR cameras. The reason for this is compactness, a simpler and more reliable design, and in many cases, higher image quality at a comparable price.
There is also a reverse trend: SLR cameras are becoming more and more like mirrorless cameras from a functionality point of view. New opportunities are appearing in live view mode, video shooting mode is being improved - in a word, everything for which the presence of a mirror is, rather, a hindrance or an atavism. Why do you need a mirror at all if the camera takes excellent pictures without it?
At the same time, if earlier mirrorless cameras were, rather, the younger brothers of SLR cameras, now everything looks far from so obvious. First of all, in terms of price: now it is approximately the same if we are talking about models of the same level and generation.

The heart of the E-PL8 is a Live MOS sensor with a resolution of 16 MP (4608 x 3456), corresponding to the Four Thirds standard (17.3 x 13 mm). The proprietary TruePic VII processor is responsible for image processing. Despite its compact size, the new product is equipped with an image stabilizer based on sensor-shift, which operates in three planes and allows the use of shutter speeds up to 3.5 stops longer.
Considering that such a compact camera is supposed to be used with an equally compact pancake lens (otherwise it loses its main “trump card”), the presence of a built-in stabilization system is extremely valuable: all compact lenses for the micro 4/3 system do not have their own optical stabilizer.
The camera dimensions are 115 x 67 x 38 mm, weight – 357 g. Three color options are expected: black, white and brown. The stylish design is complemented by original Olympus leather cases and straps, made in the same color as the camera.
Autofocus is implemented based on the contrast detection method and cannot boast the same speed characteristics as SLR cameras. At the same time, in recent years, Olympus has continuously improved the focusing system in mirrorless cameras. If we evaluate the 81-point autofocus of the E-PL8, taking into account the fact that we are talking about a purely amateur camera, there should be no complaints about the speed and accuracy of autofocus.
The AF system offers some useful features that are typical for compacts: focusing in the face detection mode and touch focus. As you might guess, if touch focus is provided, then the camera’s LCD display is touch-sensitive. The display diagonal is 3 inches. The display can be tilted up and down and even rotated 180 degrees, so this camera is perfect for selfie lovers.
There are no “advanced” controls for the shooting process on the E-PL8 body. The shooting mode dial and the unnamed command dial (its functionality depends on the selected mode) are the main controls of the E-PL8. Everything else can be configured using several function buttons and a navigation pad located to the right of the display.
The USB connector complies with the 2.0 standard, so you shouldn’t dream of high speed when copying pictures. But there is a built-in Wi-Fi module, which can be used, among other things, for remote control of the camera using a smartphone.
One of the few features of the E-PL8 that is typical for higher-end digital cameras is its continuous shooting speed. 8 frames/s is an excellent indicator for amateur mirrorless cameras.
Video is recorded with a resolution of up to 1920x1080/30p and stereo sound, although in the era of widespread adoption of the 4K standard, these characteristics are unlikely to surprise anyone.
The BLS-50 battery allows you to take about 350 shots (measured using the CIPA method). Not a bad indicator for a casual camera!
So, the E-PL8 is reminiscent in spirit of the film rangefinders of yesteryear. This camera has a good sensor and image stabilizer, but everything else depends on the quality of the optics. Today, this is one of the most inexpensive models on the market - its cost is about 34 thousand rubles without a lens and about 40 thousand with a M.Zuiko 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 zoom lens.

The camera chassis is made of magnesite. There is protection from rain and dust. The DMC-G85 can easily be confused with a DSLR, not only because of its design, but also given its relatively large dimensions: 128x89x74 mm, weight - about 500 g.
One of the key advantages of the DMC-G85 is ergonomics. The display rotates in all planes. There are two command disks. Both are easy to rotate with your thumb and forefinger while holding the camera with one hand. The function buttons Fn1 and Fn2/Q.Menu are also available in the same way. There are a total of 5 physical function buttons and 5 touch zones on the right edge of the display. All these buttons/zones can be assigned to one or another menu function, which makes the process of setting up the DMC-G85 during shooting extremely convenient.

One charge allows you to take about 320 shots (measured using the CIPA method). This is not the best indicator. However, you can significantly increase battery life (up to three times) if you use the electronic viewfinder in power saving mode when shooting. In this mode, the EVF turns off automatically 3.5 seconds after the owner stops using the camera (using the eye detection sensor readings).
The sensor-shift stabilization system operates in five planes and can be used in combination with optical stabilization, which increases the effectiveness of combating image blur at long exposures. This is the second generation of the Dual IS 2 system, but it only works when using proprietary Panasonic lenses. Otherwise, you will have to choose which stabilization system to use - in the camera or in the optics.
The 49-point AF system is based on the contrast detection method and includes functions typical of point-and-shoot cameras: focusing with detection of faces in the frame, touch autofocus.
The camera is equipped with a Wi-Fi module, through which you can both control the shooting process from your smartphone (using the appropriate application), and upload pictures to your computer, view video from the camera, etc.
Video recording is one of the key areas of use for the DMC-G85. The camera allows you to shoot in 4K (3840x2160/30p) and 1920x1080/60p resolution. In video recording mode, the following functions are available: focus peaking ("enhancing the contours" of a focused object), highlighting overexposed areas and adjusting the microphone sensitivity level (when adjusting the microphone, you can turn on a filter against wind noise). For more serious videography tasks, there is an output for an external microphone. Color-contrast settings are provided, as when shooting photographs in JPEG mode.
