Another confirmation of the September announcement iPhone 5S in a gold case appeared thanks to photographs published in a Japanese magazine. The photos compare the champagne-colored iPhone 5S with the traditional black and white iPhone 5.

General impression. For many users, especially those who have been using iPhones from the very beginning, the new device may seem like a toy. The aluminum stated in the design is not felt at all when you take the phone in your hand. There is practically nothing left of the good old 3Gs here. For many fans of Apple smartphones, this is more of a minus than a plus, however, you can quickly get used to the new look and weight. The appearance and size of the display also make a double impression. On the one hand, the appearance of the screen is alarming, on the other hand, the picture quality is pleasing. The new iPhone five is really better. The developers didn’t lie about the speed of the smartphone either – it has become faster. The speakers began to work better at receiving and transmitting speech. Thanks to the rear panel, the smartphone does not slip out of your hands, and it does not get dirty as quickly as the 4/4S.
Contents of delivery. If you look at the boxes themselves and how everything is neatly laid out in it, you can say that progress is obvious. The EarPods are the best in their genre, delivering excellent sound, especially bass. Most likely, you will not have the thought of exchanging them for some other analogue. The USB cable looks a little unusual due to the lack of plastic around the plug, but it works well in practice: the new design allows you to use it to connect a wide variety of devices.
Design. We wrote about the features of appearance (and weight) above. It is also worth mentioning such an important quality as display protection. It is soft and disappears quite quickly, especially with intensive and not very careful handling. Another important detail is the absence of fingerprints on the case and screen. This was the problem with many previous iPhone models. The new Apple iPhone5 does not have this. Even if you twirl the device in your hand all day, greasy fingerprints on it will be practically unnoticeable. Minimalism in design is obvious. A pair of buttons replaces the rich arsenal of previous models. Each has several functions, which simplifies the manipulation of the device. The placement of the cameras may upset dedicated fans: the main one is placed above the earpiece, and FaceTime is on top. The flash can be used as a backlight. The color of the model deserves special mention. Black in the fifth version finally became truly black. Even the company logo in the Apple iPhone 5 is made in the color of the case. The appearance of the 4/4S was a real disappointment for many iPhone fans. Consumers in the United States were the first to talk about the increasing incidence of marriage. And where do the vaunted 29-megapixel cameras of the quality control system look? Some people prefer to approach the problems philosophically, others say that all this is a real conspiracy against Apple. Nevertheless, even turning a blind eye to this problem, it is impossible not to note the following negative trend. For a long time, Apple adhered to certain rules of continuity in the process of developing new series of machines. This allowed users who switched to the new series to easily find the locations of USB inputs, various buttons, cameras, etc. This is what greatly distinguished the products of the American company from all other manufacturers who constantly experimented and continue to experiment with design. However, with the release of the new iPhone 5, Apple crossed out all its past achievements. The difference in design is not so significant yet: we are talking about changing the location of the connector. In all previous models it was on top, in the new iPhone it was on the bottom. For those who have used the iPhone from the first days of its appearance on the market, that is, since 2007, this may cause some inconvenience and will force them to relearn it long and hard.
Weight and dimensions. The new iPhone has become thinner and lighter. You need to get used to the new weight. The fourth model was almost 30 grams heavier. After it, the new iPhone 5 seems almost like a toy. If insufficient weight causes discomfort in your hand, the matter can be corrected with the help of a case. The device fits well in the hand, although compared to the fourth version it loses significantly in this parameter. But, unlike the four, it does not slip out of your hands even at that time. The iPhone 5 inherited the sound control button from the iPhone 4 without changes. Although the most attentive users may notice that the space around the mute lever seems to have become smaller. When pressed, the lever produces a familiar, pleasant click. The shutdown button also remains unchanged. Retina touch sensitivity is very good. According to these indicators, the five outperforms all previous models. Among the shortcomings, it should be noted that there is no separate button to turn on the camera. Although instead of it, users are offered the use of quite worthy analogues: the volume up button and the corresponding button on the headset. The latter, by the way, allows you to take pictures unnoticed by others. In addition, many users find the lack of a separate playback control button inconvenient. Instead, you have to use control buttons. Over time, all these inconveniences become familiar and do not cause irritation. Although it may take quite some time to get used to them.
Performance. What is the vaunted A6 processor that powers the new iPhone and iPad? We can say that this is one of the qualitative improvements that allows you to achieve a double, and in some cases, triple increase in performance. If you return to the 4S after the “five”, it will seem incredibly slow.
Operating system. The pre-installed iOS is a bit rough and causes problems with some apps, particularly Instagram. Updates for the system appear with enviable regularity. Among the most frequently used utilities at the time of writing this review, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Foursquare received the update. All traditional Apple programs have also been updated. Updates are expected for Google Maps, Skype and YouTube. Of the utilities with stripes, only Dropbox and Catwang remain. Among the failures in the software, it should be noted that the player often crashes when trying to rewind tracks or skip a song. Sometimes the screen image deteriorates briefly. However, by the time devices from new batches go on sale, these shortcomings will most likely have already been corrected.
Accessories. A new iPhone means using completely new accessories. Old plugs will not fit here. The new Lighting connector is slightly smaller than other models and allows the plug to be inserted either way. For now, purchasing new accessories in Russia is difficult. Even in the Apple Store at the time of the opening of sales there were no cables or adapters for the iPhone 5. Today you can only buy headphones, which is quite strange, since this accessory is secondary to the charging cable. Changes in connector size can generally be called predictable, since new technologies require new technology. The new connector made it possible to make the iPhone thinner; in the future it can be turned into a completely miniature plate. For now, however, this gives the user more inconvenience than joy, since they have to completely revise the “wardrobe” for the device: change chargers, adapters and cases.
Working hours. It fully corresponds to what the manufacturer claims: 40 hours of telephone calls, 10 hours of audio files, 8 hours of intensive use with Wi-Fi turned on and increased screen brightness. This smartphone is suitable for active users who need a phone not for fun, but, for example, for work. For them, it can replace both a tablet and a laptop.
Memory. The stores sell three options for 16, 32 and 64 GB. There is plenty to choose from. If you don’t want to depend heavily on your computer’s hard drive and, as they say, carry everything with you, choose the latter option.
Speech transmission. Let's start with the fact that the new smartphone uses new nano-SIM cards. You can buy them in Megafon and MTS stores. Beeline is still dormant, but will probably soon introduce this new product to its users. In order to insert a SIM card, you need to open the side slot using a sharp object. You may not be able to insert the card right away and will have to twirl the card in your hands for a while. Warning: Do not try to insert micro cards into the slot. Thanks to this and some other technical features, communication, and with it the quality of speech transmission, has increased by an order of magnitude. If earlier in the semi-basement premises the connection could go wrong, with the new iPhone everything falls into place. Signal loss is not observed in principle. The interlocutor’s voice is perfectly audible, and so is yours. Noise cancellation works great. It is also worth noting such a feature of the new device as increased vibration when calling. Fans of small tremors in the pocket will like it. It seems so strong that the ringtones can be turned off altogether: the phone literally breaks out of your pocket. About the melodies. Their collection has not undergone the slightest change. The mistake, although small, is quite unpleasant for music lovers. By the way, not a single new picture appeared in the wallpaper either.
Network support. The phone can rightfully be considered international. Look at the stated characteristics: supports HSPA, HSPA+ and DC-HSDPA, 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0. But all this is not about our soul. There is Bluetooth, but you can’t transfer or receive a file using it; you have to wait for similar technologies to come to Russia. Music. The sound in the new iPhone 5 has become better and more spacious. This is nothing less than the merit of the new speakers. In this regard, it no longer seems strange to use an iPhone as a sort of miniature speaker: for example, to listen to music in the bathroom while taking a shower or in the office during the working day. For these purposes the device is 100% suitable. In general, in terms of sound quality, iPhones have always been ahead of all other smartphones. Use ALAC music and complement the model with an amplifier, and you will be completely satisfied, even if you consider yourself a die-hard audiophile. When comparing the sound with older versions, it seems that in the “five” it is louder. At the same time, even the highest notes are not disrupted or distorted in the headphones. In this regard, Apple follows the beaten path, slightly improving this indicator from model to model. Just as before, one could say that the sound in the fourth iPhone became better than in the third, now it can be said that in the Fifth iPhone it became better than in its predecessor. Of course, if you don’t specifically compare the sound quality, the improvements are unlikely to be noticed, but when you return to the fourth iPhone after the fifth, the difference in sound becomes clear. The sound in the new iPhone is much more pleasing than all other characteristics. Compared to other smartphones, the fifth iPhone looks like a music giant. If the company follows the planned course, in a couple of years the iPhone 5S will appear on the market, with updated hardware in the old case. Its popularity will be as pervasive as that of the iPhone5 now, and the iPhone4 a few years earlier. It will be followed by a sixth model. It is quite difficult to predict its concept now. Most likely, new changes to the front part and software await us. The display should become wider to make it possible to add an additional row of icons. The thickness of the device will gradually tend to zero. The camera will be better, the processor more powerful, more memory. Perhaps some inexpensive analogue will appear in the Apple smartphone line, although for those who like something cheaper, there will always be earlier models. Budget devices will always lose in this regard. The first weekend after the start of sales of the Fifth iPhone was marked by five million (!) sales. In many European cities, the supply of iPhones brought for a month came to an end within a week. And this suggests that the Fifth iPhone has a great bright future ahead of it. At a quick glance, distinguishing the 5s is not an easy task. The physical dimensions of the smartphone remained the same: arrangement of elements, dimensions, display size and aspect ratio. The sides and front panel are strewn with elements, but the back still houses only the camera module. The body is made of aluminum and glass, the side edging is made with special resistant paint and spraying.
The main pride of the new iPhone is its colors. After all, now we can choose colors that were not provided before: white (silver), black and gray (Space Gray) and, of course, gold (Gold). It is worth saying that all the colors were chosen perfectly. White color looks classic and calm - such a gadget will go with everything. Black and gray looks stylish and masculine, an excellent choice for those who prefer suits. And gold is unusual and pleasant, the advantage of this color is that its tones are soft and not oversaturated with flashiness.

Probably everything has already been said about the updated design of the iPhone 5s; it seems clear that the design is almost identical to the “five”. But there is one “but” that is worth attention. iPhone 5s can be called the ideal smartphone among other Apple gadgets. After all, it corrected many errors in the design and body that the original fifth iPhone had.
Probably the main and noticeable change is the coloring. She is holding up much better now than before. Even tactile sensations make it clear that the coating is better than in the fifth iPhone. During tests, the 5s did not show any shedding.
