April 22, 2018The Open Day for applicants and their parents will begin at 11.00.

Applicants and their parents will be able to receive detailed consultations from the admissions committee staff, learn about the university’s current educational programs, passing scores and statistics for 2017, take part in career guidance events, master classes, take trial Unified State Examinations, and take a career guidance test.

Students will talk about what it means to be a student at the Financial University: they will take a tour of the university, introduce them to the KVN team, creative teams, and case clubs.

You will also have a meeting with the leadership of the Financial University, where you will be able to ask questions directly to the rector and vice-rectors.

For bachelor's and specialty students. On this day, the institute’s laboratories will hold exciting master classes, workshops and practical exercises for everyone.

MIEM NRU HSE is the engineering wing of the Higher School of Economics. Today, the institute’s bachelor’s degree program is represented by three educational programs: “Infocommunication technologies and communication systems”, “Informatics and computer technology”, “Applied mathematics”.

The specialty is represented by the educational program “Computer Security”.

The realities of today in the world of engineering professions dictate the need to introduce project-based learning models into the educational process, when students not only acquire knowledge, but also have the opportunity to apply this knowledge in real projects, the creation of a specific commercial or socially significant product. Today, MIEM is actively working to implement such a model; for this purpose, large companies and state corporations working in the field of IT, electronics, computer security, VR/AR, and space technologies are attracted to cooperation.

Such collaboration will make it possible to involve children in working with truly relevant and in-demand practical cases. Students in the coming years will study in conditions where project work will become an integral part of the educational process.

What is success as an engineer? This is when, after completing a project, he is immediately offered to complete the next one. All technological development in the 21st century will be marked by the solution of breakthrough large-scale tasks - the implementation of daring engineering projects. And our graduates will be ready for this.

Therefore, the institute decided to change the format of the practical part of the open day, abandoning traditional excursions to the main laboratories, focusing on forms of work that are as close as possible to real practical project activities, when there is a specific goal and it needs to be achieved in a designated period of time.

All labs will be open, but this time each will have some kind of hands-on session where participants can get a first-hand look at the subject area the lab represents. For example, at the Mission Control Center of the laboratory for the functional safety of spacecraft and systems, participants will assemble a real satellite, and at a workshop on augmented reality they will create software using this technology. Each participant will have the opportunity to “touch” our specialties with their own hands.

About the Open Day program

As usual, from 11 a.m. guests of MIEM NRU HSE will be treated to a rich program:

  • Throughout the day there will be meetings and consultations with the heads of educational programs and leading professors of the institute, where guests will be able to get answers to all questions related to the specifics of the program and the structure of the curriculum.
  • Retrospective of laser shows of the educational and research laboratory of Internet technologies and services.
  • A technology show where the latest student developments in the field of robotics, electronics, space technology, IT, 3D, cybersecurity, VR/AR will be presented.
  • Intellectual and fun express battles with students - “Mind Games”, where you can compete in logic, speed and originality of thinking.

Exactly at 12 o'clock in room 504 there will be a meeting with the management of the institute, where participants will be told about the conditions for admission and study at MIEM NRU HSE, the specifics of the structure of the educational process at HSE.

For those who are still more than a year away from graduating from school, the story about the MIEM engineering school, which is currently actively developing at the institute, will be of interest.

The engineering school is a comprehensive program aimed at introducing schoolchildren to engineering specialties. This includes the “Engineering Class in a Moscow School” project, aimed at both training schoolchildren and retraining teachers, a lecture hall “For the Future Engineer”, and introducing high school students to the “Aerobatics” project. And that is not all. Our immediate plans include attracting basic partners of the institute, such as RSC Energia and InfoWatch Group of Companies. Today these are the largest organizations in Russia in their field. We expect that in the very near future we will be able to conduct classes, seminars and master classes for schoolchildren at the sites of these organizations.

About practical classes

Classes will be held for everyone in two sessions: 13:15 – 14:45; 15:00 – 16:30. That is, each guest can take part in two different activities.

Geometry lovers are invited to take part in a practical lesson “Application of the mass method in solving geometry problems”. The ancient Greek thinker Archimedes discovered a way to prove geometric theorems based on considering the center of mass of a system of material points. The Archimedes method has been developed and turned into an effective and strictly substantiated means of geometric research. In a practical lesson, you will be able to get acquainted with this method and the problems for which it is used.

And, according to tradition, the MIEM School of Physics and Mathematics will hold an open lesson for everyone.
